NORTH CALDWELL, New Jersey (WABC) -- Here's a challenge: Make a bowl of cereal blindfolded.
It's called the Cereal Challenge and it was started by an 8-year-old in New Jersey who wants to show people what he faces on a daily basis.
Zachary Root was born deaf and has Usher syndrome, which will eventually rob him of his vision.
However, his spirit outshines everything.
"Please do the cereal challenge and donate money to Usher," Root said.
His cereal challenge is aimed to raise money to cure what he has: Usher 1F. He is losing his eyesight because of it.
"Zachary has Usher syndrome which is the leading cause of deaf-blindness so he was born deaf and he's losing his sight, but he has the cochlear implants so he can hear" Root's mom Rachel said. "He has he was born with night blindness and he is gradually losing his vision."
The cereal challenge has the person wear a blindfold and make a bowl of cereal to think about Root and what Usher 1F brings on.
Root's family has only been doing this for about 10 days and already they've had a huge response - people are spilling cereal and milk all over the place.
So far 200 people have done the challenge and raised $50,000.
"It breaks our heart, it's hard to imagine that your perfect little boy who loves Legos, loves life and loves seeing, loves art, one day will not be able to see," his mom said. "It's just really scary for us. "
But if that is heartbreaking, the challenge catching on and funding research at eight labs around the world fills their heart.
They want to cure Zachary and wipe out Usher 1F.
"We want him to have as much of a normal life as any parent could wish for," Root's father Jared said.

Today her step-children Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and Tia, nine, all returned to school, leaving Kate at home with Cree and the family pets.
Last night, she wrote on Instagram: "The last Sunday before school starts has been a very lazy one.
"Lots of cuddles today! I love it so much when he holds on like this.
"It's been a day of football, chill & mcds as one last treat for the kids.
"I've moaned a lot about home school & the kids can't wait to go back and I can't wait for some normality but it's going to be a very quiet house tomorrow... I think deep down I'm going to miss the madness every day... we shall see."9Kate is home alone with Cree and the family petsCredit: Instagram 9She started the day with a cleansing cup of tea
Last week Kate hit back at an "offensive" claim that she could love Cree more than her step-children.
The 29-year-old welcomed her first child with husband Rio Ferdinand in December.
Although Cree is Kate's first biological child, the beauty was already step-mum to Rio's three children with late wife Rebecca.9Kate welcomed Cree, her first biological child, in December
The former Towie favourite admitted she is asked about the difference in her love for the four children "a lot" as she addressed the issue in an Instagram Q&A last night.
One well-meaning follower had asked: "Do you love your own child a lot more than step-children? I fear this will happen to me."
Kate reassured the fan: "People ask me this a lot, and I can only speak for myself as everyone is different…9The star branded the suggestion 'offensive' on Instagram 9She is step-mum to Rio's three childrenCredit: Instagram
"I love all four children equally and I will never see any difference between my biological and non biological children."
Kate went on to add: "Lorenz, Tate, and Tia taught me what it feels like to love a child way before I had Cree.
"We worked so hard as a family to get to where we are now, and I take huge offence if anyone even suggests I would love Cree more than them.
"We have been through A LOT as a family, and that I believe has cemented my love for them so deep that the fact we are not blood is not important."9Kate insists that she loves all four kids the sameCredit: Instagram 9Rio's children have always played a key role in the householdCredit: Instagram 9They were even involved in Rio's proposal Kate Ferdinand on why mums should be recognised for their hard work Most read in CelebrityMEGHAN'S HERITAGEWhere is Meghan Markle from in America?HOT MAMAKourtney Kardashian shows off her cleavage in a sexy lace braNO MORE BABIES?Teen Mom Chelsea Houska says she's 'done' having kids with Cole DeBoer'BROKE OUR HEARTS'Little Women's Christy McGinity shares photos of late daughter Violet'CRY ME A RIVER'RHONY's Bethenny mocks 'plight of unknown actress' Meg ahead of Oprah chatLONG HAULMeet Nicolas Cage's ex-wife Alice Kim
The star has been open about her relationship with her step-children ever since she started dating Rio in 2017 - two years after Rebecca's death.
In 2018, Kate admitted the kids used to tell friends she was their "aunt" when she picked them up from school at the beginning.
She added at the time: "Rebecca is their mum. You only have one and she is irreplaceable."
Rio also asked his children's permission to start a romance with Kate, and they played a key role in his 2018 proposal and the couple's 2019 wedding.
