Jill Biden swapped out her wedding ring for a chunky black band while visiting southern Virginia with her husband, President Joe Biden, on Monday.
The 69-year-old First Lady, who is never one to shy away from a sartorial statement, looked elegant in a white sheath dress and slate gray coat, but she made the ensemble all her own with her accessory choices.
Dr. Biden's thick black band, which sparkled in the light, matched the black belt that cinched her waist. The eye-catching ring's ridges gave it the appearance of stacked bands on her finger.

Something new: The unique ring appeared to take the place of her wedding band for the day
She wore the statement piece on her ring finger on her left hand, and it appeared to take the place of her wedding band for the day.
The ring was on display when she gripped the railing while stepping off of Air Force Once as well as when she was speaking at Tidewater Community College.
The educator also had on chunky diamond-encrusted earrings, layered pearl bracelets, a gold chain watch, and a silver brooch that matched her belt buckle. Even her protective face mask had pearls on the straps.
Dr. Biden topped off her look with a pair of black patent leather and cream pumps featuring cream bows at the vamp. Her shoulder-length blonde hair was worn down with her bangs framing her face.
Monday's trip to Virginia was all about education. The Bidens' first stop was at Yorktown Elementary School where they heard from fifth graders about what it was like having school at home.RELATED ARTICLES

Safe as can be! Everyone wore face masks during the first couple's visit, and the kids sat at desks with plastic shields around them
The students at Yorktown Elementary School are back in the classroom four days a week. Wednesday, their day at home is for cleaning.
Everyone wore face masks during the first couple's visit, and the kids sat at desks with plastic shields around them.
President Biden reminded the kids that the First Lady teaches full time and asked them how they liked learning from home.
'It was a little difficult with all the glitches,' one girl said. 'I definitely prefer it this way though.'
One boy chimed in: 'I didn't like virtual. It was terrible.'
And another noted: 'If we were really tired we could take a little nap.'
Next up: The Bidens then took a tour of Tidewater Community College in Portsmouth
Statement piece: Dr. Biden's ring was on display as she animatedly spoke with her hands while addressing the crowd
Dr. Biden, who teaches at a Northern Virginia Community College, laughed and said her students do the same.
'You just turn off the camera. I've seen that,' she said.
The Bidens then visited Tidewater Community College in Portsmouth. As part of his American Families Plan, President Biden wants to offer two years free community college tuition to all Americans.
Both of the Bidens gave speeches about the American Families Plan after their tour of the school, with the First Lady telling the audience that she feels 'most at home at community colleges' as a writing professor.
'Community college graduates provide more security for their families,' she said. 'They invest in their local schools and businesses, and they bring needed skills to our workforce, helping us to meet the challenges of the 21st century. That’s why we need two years of free community college. Thank you, Mr. President.'
She also gushed a bit about her husband, saying he knows first hand that 'there is no greater investment that we can make than in education.'

Saying hi! Dr. Biden gave a wave and flashed her ring one last time before stepping inside
'Joe knows that. He saw it in his classes when he taught law school. And he’s heard it from me every single day when I finished teaching my classes,' she said. 'But it’s not enough to know it takes action. And what drew me to Joe all those many years ago was his strength.
'And beneath his kindness, and his charm, and his good humor, is a man who keeps his promises,' she continued. 'He does the necessary work and shows up when it matters. And today the American Rescue Plan, the American Jobs Plan, and the American Families Plan, will work together to deliver the future we need.
'He’s going to deliver on our promise for an opportunity for all Americans, with universal preschool quality, public schools, and free community college. Our country is going to rise together.'
Both of President Biden's $2.3 trillion American Jobs Plan and his $1.8 trillion American Families Plan feature heavy education components, including everything from money to fix school buildings and replace old pipes to funds for free universal pre-K and more teachers.
He plans to pay for his jobs plan with a hike on corporate tax rates from 21 percent to 28 percent and impose a global minimum tax on corporations. To pay for his families plan, he would hike the tax rate on capital gains to 39.6 percent and raise the rate for the top 1 percent of income earners to 38.6 percent.
When President Biden took the stage at the community college, he told America's wealthy and corporations that it is time to start paying their 'fair share' in taxes in his speech pushing his ambitious infrastructure and social spending sprees.
'Is it more important to shield millionaires from paying their fair share, or is it more important that every child gets a real opportunity to succeed from an early age and ease the burden on working families,' he said.

See Jill Duggar Posing in Swimwear as Summer Approaches: Almost That Time

Here comes the sun! Jill Duggar showed off new swimsuits in a Wednesday, May 12, Instagram slideshow.
“Swimwear!! It’s almost that time of year,” the 19 Kids and Counting alum, 29, captioned the social media upload. “I’m loving my new comfy swimwear sets from @modlifefashion and look forward to getting some good use out of them this summer!”
When an Instagram user commented that the former reality star looked “so happy and cute,” Duggar replied that she had been looking at her husband, Derick Dillard. “He makes me smile,” the Counting On alum wrote.
As she modeled everything from floral-patterned tanks to drawstring shorts in the slideshow, the former TLC personality read a book on a blanket and sipped a drink from a mason jar. She also posed beside a fence and on the lawn.
Since leaving her family’s show in 2017, Duggar has appeared to break many of her family’s rules on Instagram over the years, including drinking alcohol and rocking a nose ring.
The Arkansas native exclusively told Us Weekly in February that there has been “some distancing” between herself and the Duggars in recent years. “We’re not on the best terms with some of my family,” she explained. “We’ve had some disagreements, but we’re working toward healing definitely and restoration, but we’re having to kind of just take some time and heal.”
Jill added at the time: “There are definitely some issues there. We definitely feel like we’re in a healthy place now for our family and have control over our lives … Certain people are more supportive than others. I think it ebbs and flows with a family of that size. Every family has drama and so when you’ve got that many more people giving opinions or whatever, it can get crazy.”
Following her brother Josh Duggar’s arrest last month, Jill and Dillard, 32, exclusively told Us that the news was “very sad.” The father of six, 33, who has baby No. 7 on the way, pleaded not guilty to charges of receiving and possessing child pornography in April. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines for each count. His trial is set to begin in July.
