Kate Middleton and First Lady Jill Biden met for the first time on Friday during a visit to a school in Cornwall, England where the G7 summit is taking place this weekend.
In a statement sent to Insider, Kensington Palace confirmed that Middleton, 39, and Biden, 70, attended Connor Downs Academy in Hayle, West Cornwall, where they explored their respective interest in early education through a roundtable discussion with British and American experts.
The statement read: "The importance of providing adequate support for parents and children alike during early childhood, and the positive impact that this can have across society, is something which Her Royal Highness and The First Lady have both gained an understanding of through their respective work."
Biden has worked as an educator since 1976, when she first began teaching English. Since 2009, she has been a professor of English at Northern Virginia Community College, which she has continued alongside her role as the First Lady of the United States.
The statement issued by Kensington Palace notes that Middleton's work as Duchess of Cambridge means that she "has seen first-hand how the root cause of so many of today's hardest social challenges – from poor mental health and addiction to family breakdown and homelessness – can be traced right back to the earliest years of life."
The statement also confirmed that Middleton will next week announce plans to "elevate the importance of early childhood and continue the conversation on this vital issue."
The two women sat down with the school's reception class, where children are aged between 4-5 years old, to engage in a number of classroom activities and later fed the school's rabbits.
The first lady and President Joe Biden arrived in the UK on Wednesday ahead of the G7 summit. They then met British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson and his new wife Carrie Johnson in Carbis Bay on Thursday.
Buckingham Palace announced that the president and first lady will meet Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle on Sunday, Insider's Mikhaila Friel previously reported.

Republicans Introduce Resolution Censuring President Biden For Failure To Execute The Duties Of His Office
Republican lawmakers introduced a resolution Wednesday to censure President Joe Biden for “failure to execute the duties of his office.”
Twenty-three Republican lawmakers led by Republican Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert introduced a censure resolution to express their “disapproval of [Biden’s] failure to uphold the constitutional duty to ‘take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed,'” according to the congresswoman’s press release.

The press release stated the censure resolution “holds President Biden accountable for his actions — or lack thereof — at the border.”
“Biden has refused to enforce the laws securing our border, he has refused to visit our border, his border czar Kamala has refused to visit the border, and his Secretary of Homeland Security is lying to the American people by saying, that our border is closed. Not only has Biden done nothing to secure the border, he has actively made it worse by implementing policies that incentivize illegal immigration like amnesty, catch and release, and abolishing the remain in Mexico policy. The result of Biden’s mismanagement is staggering, and the numbers speak for themselves,” Boebert said.
The freshman congresswoman then described how Biden made the border crisis “proactively worse” by reinstating “catch and release.” “Catch and release,” which was reimplemented by the Biden administration in January, permits illegal immigrants to stay in the United States while waiting for immigration proceedings.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced a record-high number of 180,000 migrants were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border in May, in comparison to the 23,000 apprehended in May 2020. (RELATED: ANALYSIS: Biden’s Border Crisis Vs. Trump’s: Here’s How They Stack Up)
Vice President Kamala Harris announced Wednesday she would to the U.S.-Mexico border Friday. Harris’ trip will come 93 days after Biden tapped her to lead the administration’s response to the crisis. Harris will visit the border in El Paso, Texas, alongside Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
