Claudio Ranieri close to tears in first visit back to King Power after leaving Leicester as fans pay tribute

The Italian took his Watford side to Leicester in his first game back at the ground since his sacking in February 2017.

He has played the Foxes once since, taking charge of Fulham in a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage in December 2018.

Ranieri is held in high esteem by the Leicester faithful for his Premier League heroics.

And this was a chance for the crowd to share their respect and gratitude after Ranieri was harshly dismissed.

Flags were sold outside the stadium welcoming the return of the "legend", bearing his famous phrase "dilly ding dilly dong".

Ranieri led the Foxes to their first-ever league title in 2015-16 despite being favourites for relegation.

He also took Leicester to the knock-out stages of the Champions League and uncovered gems like N'Golo Kante.

Ranieri is now tasked with avoiding the drop at Watford having returned to England in October.

So far he has been unable to achieve his goal of keeping a clean sheet, with Leicester taking just 16 minutes to open the scoring through James Maddison.

But big wins over Everton and Manchester United have helped open up a gap to the bottom three.
