A YOUNG British woman critically injured in a horror holiday moped crash has told how she is “worried sick” about her boyfriend who is fighting for his life.
Brave Joella Senior has now been moved from intensive care onto a ward at the same hospital in Bali where her partner Alex Hoyle remains in a coma with head injuries and a broken back.7Alex Hoyle and Joella Senior were on a dream trip to Bali before it turned into a nightmareCredit: Rex 7Alex and Joella were travelling on a moped when they crashed in BaliCredit: Facebook
Her older sister Teya Brooker has told of both families’ heartache after the couple’s dream trip to the Indonesian island turned into a nightmare.
Primary school teacher Teya said: “My sister has the biggest heart and is worrying about everyone else, not herself. She said she is worried sick about Alex and knows the extent on his injuries while she is coping with her own."
“She is in so much pain herself and is exhausted but all she cares about is Alex and our families.”
Mum-of-two Teya from Corley, Warwickshire, who has spoken to her sibling by phone, said: “We’ve told her to stop worrying about us and that she needs to get better.”READ MORE SUN STORIES'WORST NIGHTMARE' Brit, 28, sentenced to death for fighting in Ukraine 'WILL be executed'TOP GUNS Fearless Ukrainian women training to defend war-torn country from Putin's invaders
Teya, 29, whose milestone 30th birthday is just weeks away, said: “We’ve got to look to the positive. She survived. But everything since the accident is such a blur.”
She told in a exclusive interview with The Sun Online how difficult it was to have a conversation with Joella, saying: “We try to talk but it’s hard for her. She is in so much pain and is exhausted so we keep it short and sweet but positive."
“She is aware Alex is in a really bad way and it is really hard for her because she can't see him. He’s still in intensive care.”
Teya, who has taken a career break to look after her baby daughter and toddler son, told their university lecturer mum Jeni Hall had flown out to Bali yesterday and had arrived safely.
She said: “Mum’s been amazing and very strong.”
Joella, a social media co-ordinator for various companies, suffered a broken back in the crash on the third day of their “holiday of a lifetime” in Kerobokan, North Kuta, on the evening of June 12.Most read in US NewsBLOODY ATTACK Three arrested after rapper shot in attempted robbery at shopping plazaDISTURBING Cop 'booted from police over mystery death before raping woman in torture home'JUSTICE FOR GABBY Gabby Petito's family send secret message to slain daughter at hearingCHUTE HORROR Horror moment paraglider plunges to death after chute gets severed by KITE
The couple’s Honda Vario scooter was in a collision with a car and another moped.
Joella also broke both arms, collarbone and cheekbone and has a damaged lung.
Her sister said: “The punctured lung is a problem and is causing her delay returning home. We don't know when she will be fit enough to travel home.”
She added how thankful both families and friends were to the “incredible doctors” in the Balinese main hospital.
Joella’s ex-fiancé Luke Howitt told he is “hoping and praying that the pair make a full recovery and return home safely.”
He told how he had been communicating with his former girlfriend, he remains pals with, saying: “I’m trying to keep her spirits up. She has spinal and other injures and will need so much rest and physio."
“Alex is in a coma and his parents and sister are by his side."
“I haven't spoken to her about the accident but she knows how seriously injured Alex is. We all hope he pulls through and that they can come home together.”
Luke, 28, said that the huge response to the fundraiser - today (June 23) standing at nearly £81,384 of its £100,000 target to help pay for the couple’s medical bills was “just amazing.”
The building refurbishment worker told The Sun Online how he remained friends with Joella despite their break up, and knows her new boyfriend.
He said: “We were together for 10 years but grew apart. That happens. But we are still pals, after having a bit of distance, and we share out two dogs together, and I am just hoping that she is OK and Alex too."
“She is in a lot of pain and she can’t see Alex. They have been a couple for at least all of this year, maybe before, and we are thinking of them both.”
The injured couple’s close friends Georgie Steel and Oli Rowland told in a new posting on the JustGiving fundraiser how Joella had made some progress following extensive surgery.
They wrote: “Joella's operations to repair her displaced fractures in both her lower arms, stabilise fractures to the vertebrae as well as plating her collar bone and cheek bone have all gone really well.
“Whilst the operations were a success, Joella's road to recovery is still very long and she finds herself in a tremendous amount of pain post surgery as her body tries to recover from the stress that the operations have put her under.”
The picture is bleaker for Alex who remains in a critical condition sedated in intensive care with “no timescale known for when he'll wake up."
They posted: “He is requiring many further operations including repairs to serious injuries to his jaw, cheek bone and temporal bones. There is still unfortunately a long way to go for Alex's recovery.”7Joella's sister Teya has told how she is keeping positive for her sister who she communicates with by phoneCredit: Family handout 7Sister Teya has described Joella as having a big heart and always worrying about othersCredit: Family handout 7Joella Senior suffered a broken back, broken arms, collarbone and cheekbone and has a damaged lungCredit: Rex 7Alex Hoyle remains in a coma with head injuries and a broken backCredit: Rex 7Joella is “worried sick” about her boyfriend Alex who is fighting for life in BaliCredit: Family handout

UFC 276: Alex Pereira thinks Israel Adesanya doesnt want to fight him or he would have already (Video)
Even though their bouts were in kickboxing, Alex Pereira, who faces Sean Strickland at UFC 276, feels Israel Adesanya will do everything in his power to not face him in MMA
Alex Pereira may not be the most experienced MMA fighter, with just two UFC bouts and six MMA fights total, but he’s a much well-known name in the community.
In fact, he’s quite the familiar face to current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.
Pereira, the former GLORY Kickboxing middleweight and light heavyweight champion, fought Israel Adesanya twice in kickboxing. Pereira won both times, winning the April 2016 fight by decision and their March 2017 fight by a brutal knockout.
Adesanya has recently claimed that both kickboxing bouts were closer than what the record books would say, but Pereira feels the results may be very similar if the two were to ever meet in MMA.UFC 276: Alex Pereira says Israel Adesanya doesn’t want to fight him, thinks he can make Adesanya leave on a stretcher again
“[His comments] actually make me confused,” Pereira said, via a translator, at his UFC 276 media day scrum. “The knockout he claimed to be [by] a pillow [the gloves]. Now we talk about four-ounce gloves. It is deadly weapons, but with the big pillows already making him leave on a stretcher with a gas [oxygen] balloon on him, imagine what is going to happen on the four ounces.”
Following the knockout loss to Pereira, Adesanya fully committed to a sole focus on MMA, which led him to the UFC, and he eventually claimed the UFC middleweight championship at UFC 243.
After a long desire to rejoin MMA following three bouts on the regional circuit in 2015 and 2016, Pereira scored a first-round knockout of Thomas Powell at LFA 95 before jumping to the UFC.
Pereira’s Octagon debut saw him score an early second-round finish of Andreas Michailidis at UFC 268 in November and a unanimous decision win over Bruno Silva in March.
Pereira is confident that a win at UFC 276 over Sean Strickland will earn him the No. 1 contender’s spot for the middleweight title, regardless of whether Adesanya or Jared Cannonier stands victorious at night’s end.
But Pereira feels if Adesanya really wanted to face Pereira again, he would have asked the UFC to do so already.
“I believe Adesanya is going to win [against Cannonier], even though he don’t seem to be too focused on it because he’s been talking about me so much for this past week,” Pereira said. “He should be focused more on the fight that he has because he has a dangerous fight, but I still believe that he’s going to win and I’m rooting for him.
“I don’t think he wants to fight due to the history that we have. If he really wanted the fight when I first signed to the UFC, he wouldn’t let me do three fights like I’m doing now. He [would have gone[ into the organization say ‘Look, if he agrees, I want to do a rubber match right now and I want to get back those losses.’
“But after my win [at UFC 268 in Madison Square Garden], he said I still have four more wins before reaching him. This is the third, but now he goes and says that he wants to fight me next and everything that he’s saying because he sees that it’s on the contract so he has nowhere else to run.”
Of course, before Adesanya, Pereira will have to worry about Strickland, who has been making his own rise since coming back from a two-year layoff at the end of 2020 due to a motorcycle accident.
Strickland’s run since his return has seen him score wins over Jack Marshman, Brendan Allen, Krzysztof Jotko, Uriah Hall and Jack Hermansson.
“[He’s a] dangerous guy, very tough guy, No. 4 in the rankings,” Pereira said. “That’s why I prepared so well for this fight.”Next: 5 of the best (and worst) rematches in UFC history UFC 276: Israel Adesanya vs. Jared Cannonier takes place on Saturday, July 2, 2022, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
