TRIBUTES have been paid to an "irreplaceable" woman who was killed in a car crash shortly after becoming the legal guardian of her two teenage sisters.

Natalie Marshall, 25, died when her Mercedes C Class smashed into a tree on the outskirts of Darlington at 3.15am on Friday. A 21-year-old man was badly hurt.

EE sales rep Natalie had recently taken in her little sisters, 17, and 14, with the three sharing a home in St Helen Auckland, Co. Durham.

Close family friend Shannon Murray, 25, has now started an online fundraiser to help provide for the two youngsters.

"They were Natalie's world and she fought so hard to make sure both girls had a good life," Shannon told the Northern Echo.

"She put the kids before herself and she would make sure they were ok. She grafted her backside off to make sure they had everything they wanted at Christmas and for birthdays."

Natalie had been waiting for "years" to have guardianship, and had "just finally got it", Shannon said.

Natalie's older sister, Chloe Coleman, who has two young children of her own, has taken over the legal guardianship of the girls. Shannon is helping to look after them.

The fundraiser has already raised more than £2,000. It will be used to make sure the girls have enough for uniforms, food, holidays and trips out.

Chloe, 28, said: "It was a privilege to know Natalie and for me to be her sister.

“She was someone who cannot be replaced.

“She was the soul of everything and she had such an infectious laugh.

"The stories would just come out of her. There will never be another Natalie.”

"Natalie was the one with the big personality out of all of us," Shannon added.

"She was the life and soul of everyone's party.

"What has happened has shocked all of us."

She said Natalie "lived every day as if it was her last".

"Her death has left a very big hole in everyone's hearts," she said.

Amtrak and BSNF Railway Company file suit in aftermath of deadly crash: Report

Amtrak and BNSF Railway Company have reportedly filed a lawsuit against the company that owns the dump truck that caused a train to derail, killing four people.

The federal lawsuit filed against MS Contracting claims the truck driver, Billy Barton II, was "unsafe, careless and reckless" when he crossed the railroad tracks and that proper training had not been given to drivers, according to the Kansas City Star.

The lawsuit filed against the contracting company comes shortly after Barton's widow filed a lawsuit against Chariton County, Missouri, and Mariano Rodriguez, a roadmaster who works for BNSF Railway, alleging wrongful death over the signage and upkeep of the railroad crossing, according to a report.

The derailment Monday caused by a dump truck colliding with the train resulted in four deaths, including three train passengers and the truck driver.

The railroad crossing near Mendon, Missouri, did not have any lights or gates for when trains were approaching, and local farmers had warned about the dangers of the specific crossing where the collision occurred.

The Amtrak Southwest Chief train was traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago and was carrying 275 passengers and 12 crew members when it derailed around 12:42 p.m. local time in rural Missouri, according to the company.
