moreby Jennie Taer   RIO GRANDE VALLEY — A top official within Texas’ effort to secure the U.S.-Mexico border told the Daily Caller News Foundation that his troops are prepared for a worst case scenario situation and that they can be deployed within hours to tackle it. “We’re prepared to repel and block any sized element coming across,” The Texas National Guard border public affairs officer Major Mike Perry told the DCNF. “That’s what the rehearsals are for. Typically, they’re focused on one area cause it’s your low crossings and your ports. So, we can be anywhere with our ground assets in three hours to get the Steel Curtain up and prepare for it, and, of course, you saw the Contingency Reaction Force fly in with the military police.” The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas National Guard are prepared to “surge” resources to any location in Texas to “repel and block” large caravans or other illegal activity crossing the border, Perry explained. BRITAIN'S most senior military officer admitted he is "worried" and we must "be on guard" over the unfolding threat from Russia in Eastern Europe. General Sir Nick Carter - the Chief of the Defence Staff - warned that the UK must be "on our guard" over Putin's intentions with Ukraine and unfolding tensions with Belarus. 2General Sir Nick Carter is concerned over the situations in Ukraine and Belarus It comes as it was reported a 600-strong task force of British special forces - including SAS commandos and soldiers from the Parachute Regiment - are being prepared to deploy to Ukraine. US officials warned last week that Russia may be plotting an imminent invasion of Ukraine. And meanwhile Vladimir Putin's regime has been accused of stoking the unfolding migrant crisis between Belarus and Poland. Europe's last dictatorship has been accused of "weaponising" migration against the EU - sparking a tense stand off along the Belarusian and Polish border with troops on both sides. Britain is sending military engineers to Poland to help secure the situation. But when BBC...
A human smuggler in Roma, Texas, received a surprise from a group of Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Troopers and Texas Army National Guard soldiers when he was arrested Tuesday night. As the smuggler ferried migrants across the Rio Grande, authorities sprang into action. The incident was highlighted in a tweet by Fox News’ Bill Melugin. BREAKING: For the first time, @TxDPS & the TX National Guard captured a human smuggler who was using a raft to bring 7 illegal immigrants across the Rio Grande in Roma, TX. According to the Fox News report, the smuggler was transporting only adult males. As reported by Breitbart Texas, smugglers generally operate with impunity almost nightly. In many cases, the inflatable rafts are filled with mostly family units and very young children–making any attempt to intervene risky....
ROMA, Texas — Human smugglers ferried more than 100 migrants into the downtown square Monday night. National Guardsmen assisted Border Patrol agents to line the migrants and march them into the city for transport. In what has become a nightly ritual, smugglers made short work of transporting the migrants into Roma from Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas. The Central American migrants were mostly from Guatemala and Nicaragua. Breitbart Texas interviewed several who said they were fleeing government corruption, violence, and poverty. Most said they hoped they would be allowed to remain in the United States and receive asylum. The smugglers openly communicate with the soldiers and Border Patrol agents, coordinating where to beach the raft so children can easily climb the riverbank. Once on dry land, soldiers and Border Patrol agents march the migrants downtown and take basic biographical information. The migrants will be taken to a nearby soft-sided processing center. Many of the family unit migrants with tender age children will ultimately be released. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector arrested more than 549,000 migrants in Fiscal Year 2021....
TAPACHULA, Mexico (AP) — The leader of an effort by Central American migrants to walk across southern Mexico said Monday the group will now head to the U.S. border, rather than Mexico City as originally planned. Leader and immigration activist Irineo Mujica said in a video that he will try to organize another caravan of thousands of migrants to reach the Gulf coast state of Veracruz, where both groups will join up and set out for the border. The apparent change in plans comes after Mujica said the group has been pursued and harassed by Mexican government officials. Relations deteriorated after a group of migrants pelted officers of Mexico’s National Guard with a hail of rocks Thursday, injuring five guard officers. The change of plans may be an act of desperation: the group is dwindling after more than two weeks of walking through punishing heat, and now may number as little as 1,300 people. It had once been as large as 4,000. The group of mainly Central American migrants got a cold welcome Monday when they entered the state...
TAPACHULA, Mexico (AP) — A group of migrants trying to walk across southern Mexico pelted officers of Mexico’s National Guard with a hail of rocks Thursday, apparently injuring at least one guardsman. The guards were tailing the march and had apparently tried to detain some of the mainly Central American migrants, when a small group of a few dozen males started throwing rocks at two truckloads of guard officers equipped with plastic shields and helmets. So heavy was the rain of rocks that at least two guard officers tumbled from the trucks onto the highway below near the town of Pijijiapan, in the southern state of Chiapas. Video footage showed one of the guardsmen unconscious, with some migrants trying to help him while another threw a punch at him. The National Guard did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Its officers have been wary of confronting migrants since a shooting incident Sunday left one migrant dead. Confrontations between law enforcement and migrants had been relatively rare in Mexico, but National Guard officers opened fire on a...
Texas officials are using shipping containers to prevent illegal migrants from crossing its border, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) recently told Fox News’s Tucker Carlson. When asked what his state was doing to secure its border with Mexico, Abbott said there were 6,500 National Guard and Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers on the border. “And as we’re talking right now, they are identifying locations on the border where they are laying down razor wire to secure all the possible crossings that these caravans may be coming to,” he continued: And in addition to that beginning today, we begin dropping these large containers that you see on 18-wheelers, that y’all see on these ships that are going across the ocean. We’re dropping them down on locations that could be crossings that would be used by these caravans to serve as a blockade to prevent them from coming across the border. And then on top of that, if they do come across the border, the National Guard and the Texas Department of Public Safety, they are authorized to arrest any of these people...
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Wednesday that his state was forced to take action and develop its own border wall as President Biden continues to ignore the ongoing crisis at the U.S. southern border. "Texas is stepping up and we are building our own border wall. That process has already begun," Abbott told "Tucker Carlson Tonight." We are in the process of getting bids on it and I am told to expect part of the Texas wall to be completed before the end of this calendar year." FILE - In this June 8, 2021, file photo, Texas Gov. Good news, troops. We're calling you all up as part of my latest anti-immigrant stunt. Better news: You all get to help pay for it! In the news today: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott finally answered critics asking who would pay for his latest propaganda stunt, the pointless dispatch of Texas National Guard troops to the state's southern border. It's the National Guard troops themselves who are footing the bill for some of it, with the state slashing the tuition assistance they were promised for signing on in the first place. Elsewhere, the obsessively Trumpian "Turning Point USA" has long promoted anti-democratic, pro-authoritarian rhetoric against Trump's enemies, so it's hardly surprising when one of their rally audiences angrily starts asking how long they have to wait "before we kill these people." Charlie Kirk's answer boiled down to maybe later. The Trump lawyer who wrote a guide for how Trump's vice president could nullify a United States election on his own initiative, meanwhile, still blames  "establishment guy" Mike Pence for not going along with the autogolpe. Here's some of what you may...
AUSTIN, Texas — National Guard members deployed in Texas by Gov. Greg Abbott have arrested more than 32,000 people on state trespassing and human smuggling charges as part of a highly unusual operation that has turned soldiers into law enforcement officers, the Washington Examiner has learned. National Guard troops on the border have apprehended more than 32,000 people, most of whom are noncitizens who illegally crossed the international border from Mexico into Texas and, in doing so, trespassed onto private land, according to a spokeswoman for the Texas Military Department. The arrests began in July and the numbers go through late October. NEW COALITION OF FEDERAL EMPLOYEES SUE BIDEN OVER VACCINE MANDATE The military department has sent “thousands” of National Guard members to the border and has "thousands more coming,” the spokeswoman said, one indication that migrant and smuggler arrests are expected to rise further in the coming months. Under normal circumstances, members of the military are not allowed to make arrests or enforce laws. Until July, any state military forces sent to the border assisted Border Patrol,...
"Texas Army National Guard members guard an opening in the border wall." Republican Gov. Greg Abbott is ordering Texas National Guard troops to participate in his “Operation Lone Star” border scheme as the Texas legislature is slashing their earned benefits, Army Times reports. “Texas has slashed its tuition assistance budget by more than half—to roughly $1.4 million—to comply with a state-mandated budget reduction.”  Meanwhile, state funding for Abbott’s border scheme—a political stunt called “abusive, dangerous, and unlawful” for locking up hundreds of recently arrived migrants, including asylum-seekers, for weeks and months without any formal charges—increased by $300 million, the report said.  Army Times reports that the tuition assistance slashes are particularly devastating because the aid is one major reason why many join the National Guard in the first place. “Before the cuts, the state offered $4,500 in reimbursement per semester to virtually all Texas Guard troops who were working full-time towards their first undergraduate degree or their first graduate or professional degree.” Army Times says that budget has been slashed from over $3 million during the 2020 and 2021 fiscal years to just $1.4 million for the 2022...
KEYSTONE, South Dakota — South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem told Breitbart News that she considers what is happening along the U.S. border with Mexico to be like a “war” and that is why she has deployed South Dakota National Guard troops to help border governors like Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey control the situation. “Our Guard was there for 60 days,” Noem said in an exclusive interview at Mount Rushmore in late September. “We deployed them down there. When the Texas governor and Arizona governor asked for help and resources, they asked for law enforcement. But as I evaluated what the needs were down there — first of all, we were having historic visitation to our state, so I didn’t want to shortchange my law enforcement agencies that enforce public safety throughout South Dakota. But also, looking at the mission that was there and the situations they would be in, the people that are trained specifically for that type of a mission is my National Guard. We have consistently, for years, had the best-rated, ranked, and...
"After a thorough review of all the information contained in your initial request and appeal, we reaffirm our original findings that supplemental federal assistance under the Stafford Act is not warranted for this event," Criswell wrote in the letter obtained and published by the Examiner. "Therefore, I must inform you that your appeal for an emergency declaration is denied." TX Em Appl Td Letter by Washington Examiner Though Abbott has not said how much the state has spent on border enforcement, the Examiner wrote that the figure is in the "millions of dollars" and said that "thousands" of National Guard troops as well as state police have been sent to the impacted regions since the state initiated Operation Lone Star back in March. Now Texas officials are preparing for another massive surge of illegal immigrants from Haiti, South America, and Central America whose caravan steamrolled north past a roadblock in southern Mexico over the weekend. The Mexican National Guard set up the roadblock, employing some 400 law enforcement officers with shields and anti-riot gear. But the migrants overwhelmed the...
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greek authorities have launched a search and rescue operation off the coast of the eastern island of Chios after a dinghy transporting migrants from the coast of Turkey sank early Tuesday. The coast guard said 20 people had been rescued and a further seven were believed to still be missing. A rescue helicopter and two coast guard vessels as well as nearby private boats were taking part in the operation. Greece was the main entry point for refugees and migrants entering the European Union during the 2015-16 crisis but the number of arrivals has dropped sharply over the past two years in part due to tougher policing measures. The EU border protection agency, Frontex, has also stepped up support for the Greek border guard and coast guard. Copyright © 2021 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. The caravan is making its journey to the U.S. just as the Biden administration is following a court order to reinstate former President Donald Trump's "Remain in Mexico" policy, which will require asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico while they are being processed for entry into the U.S. Border Patrol officials told Fox News last week that as many as 60,000 migrants are gathering on the Mexican side of the border to attempt to cross into the U.S. before the Biden administration reimplements the Trump-era policy. Meanwhile, the Biden administration is searching for a legal way to repeal the "Remain in Mexico" policy even as it is following a court order to put the policy back into effect. On Friday, Customs and Border Protection reported there have been more than 1.7 million encounters with illegal immigrants in FY 2021, a record high number. Republican critics have blamed Biden's attempts to repeal Trump's strict immigration policies for incentivizing illegal immigration and contributing to a humanitarian crisis on the southern border. The Biden administration said root causes like poverty, corruption,...

TAPACHULA, Mexico (AP) — Over 2,000 migrants, mainly Central Americans, began walking out of a city in southern Mexico on Saturday where they have essentially been trapped. The migrants walked along a highway leading west and north toward the U.S. border, and pushed past a line of state police who were trying to stop them. There were minor scuffles, but the migrants continued on their way. Police, immigration agents and National Guard have broken up smaller attempts at similar breakouts earlier this year. Tens of thousands of migrants from Honduras, El Salvador and Haiti have been waiting in the southern city of Tapachula for refugee or asylum papers that might allow them to travel, but have grown tired of delays in the process. Unlike previous marches, the one that started Saturday from Tapachula did not include as many Haitian migrants, thousands of whom reached the U.S. border around Del Rio, Texas in September. In August, National Guard troops in riot gear blocked several hundred Haitians, Cubans and Central Americans who set out walking on a highway...
EAGLE PASS, Texas — Texas Army National Guard troops and equipment deployed by Governor Greg Abbott moved in to block a portion of the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, Texas. The troops began arriving on Friday and positioned themselves along a one-mile stretch of the river near the downtown area of the city. The troops are stationed in Humvee vehicles carefully placed along the riverbank to serve as a deterrent to illegal crossings near the city. Nearly 30 vehicles are parked less than 150 feet from each other facing Mexico. Border Patrol agents in the area tell Breitbart Texas that more troops were scheduled to arrive later in the day. (Photo: Randy Clark/Breitbart Texas) As reported by Breitbart Texas, the area surrounding the ports of entry in Eagle Pass are known as high traffic areas for illegal crossings and are problematic for the Border Patrol due to the proximity to private residences in the city. Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Sunday that the border crisis is escalating into a border war as “aggressive” Mexican cartels shoot at National Guard soldiers at the southern border. WATCH: “I have to tell you there’s something that’s happening that’s getting even worse and that’s the cartels are getting even more aggressive and the cartels on the Mexican side of the border, they’re beginning to open fire on the National Guard that Texas has down on the border to secure the border,” Abbott told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”  This is escalating into a firing war on each side of the border where Texas and our National Guard are having to defend themselves and defend the state of Texas.” “Everyone saw what happened in Del Rio with regard to the Haitians that came in there,” the governor continued, as he said the current “hottest point” along the Texas border is “in Roma … and that’s the area where the cartels on the Mexican side of the border are shooting at the National Guard on the Texas side of...
Texas National Guard soldiers on the southern border were fired on Thursday by suspected cartel gunmen from Mexico, authorities said Friday.  The soldiers were in Roma, Texas when two shots were fired from across the border, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.  The suspected shooters are believed to be gunmen from a drug cartel. The incident occurred in the same area where Fox News witnessed tracers from a suspected cartel machine gun while embedded with Texas Rangers.  (Texas Department of Public Safety) The area in question is part of a bloody turf war between the Gulf Cartel and the Northeast Cartel, an offshoot of Los Zetas, one of Mexico's most violent organized groups.  No injuries were reported in Thursday's incident and the Texas Rangers are investigating.  Heavily armed groups are becoming a more common site along the Texas-Mexico border, authorities said.  CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP
THESSALONIKI, Greece (AP) – Greece will increase the number of border guards on the country’s border with Turkey, fearing a spike in illegal migration linked to the crisis in Afghanistan, officials said Monday. An additional 250 officers will join the 1,500-strong border force over several months, with the number rising from around 1,000 early last year. About 800 extra border guard personnel will also be hired to staff airports and regions close to the Greek-Turkish border. The increase was spurred in part by the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, according to authorities. Greece has toughened its migration policy and border policing over the last two years, extending a wall along its land border with Turkey and installing a high-tech surveillance network to try and deter asylum-seekers from making the crossing. ‘Over 95 Per Cent’ of ‘Afghans’ in Greece ‘Arrive Without Documents’: Ambassador https://t.co/t48aAUL2yL — Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) September 27, 2021 Greece has denied mounting allegations by human rights groups that migrants caught after crossing into Greece are being summarily deported without being allowed to claim asylum. MCALLEN, Texas — The swarm of National Guard soldiers and state police that governors sent to guard the Texas-Mexico border earlier this summer is gone, leaving the border effectively unmanned with just 6% of the reinforcements left behind. “We used to have a National Guard posted there,” Border Patrol agent Chris Cabrera told the Washington Examiner while driving along a dirt road that runs parallel with the border near the Hidalgo port of entry late one evening recently. “There was another one right over here, but they took that guy, too." Cabrera is the vice president of the Border Patrol union’s Rio Grande Valley chapter. On a 12-mile drive along roads that agents use to access the overgrown land along the Rio Grande, Cabrera points out a total of 11 spots where National Guard soldiers had been posted all summer. They manned mobile camera towers and could also call in sightings of illegal immigrants or drug smugglers attempting to sneak through the brush. Now, no one is keeping watch and Cabrera admits that agents, half of whom have been pulled...
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter aircrew helped deputies in South Texas round up a group of Central American migrants being smuggled into the U.S. The apprehensions took place near Robstown, Texas, approximately 130 miles north of the Texas-Mexico border. It’s not unusual to see the United States Coast Guard patrolling coastal waters along the Texas Gulf Coast. On Friday however, the Coast Guard deployed an aircrew to help local law enforcement agents to thwart an ongoing human smuggling event near Robstown in Nueces County. Local law enforcement apprehend a group of smuggled migrants near a South Texas rail line. (Photo: Nueces County Constable’s Office Precinct 5) Robstown police officers, Nueces County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and local county constables quickly apprehended eight Central American migrants in their initial search along a freight rail line in the area. The U.S. Coast Guard helicopter, normally deployed to duty along the coastal waterways, aided in the speedy resolution of the event. Within two hours, police rounded up twenty more migrants. The incident turned into a human trafficking event when two more migrants arrived in...
Suspected members of a cartel were caught on video firing multiple rounds of bullets from Mexico next to the Rio Grande in Starr County, Texas Thursday. The footage was captured by a reporter amid reports that Texas National Guard members have seen cartel gunfights increase near the border recently.  Fox's Bill Melugin, who claimed to have seen everything, added that the National Guardsmen were not certain whether this was a shootout or just meant to intimidate. Soldiers told Melugin that they have been taunted in recent days by the cartel members, who are armed, while standing across the Rio Grande.  'The National Guard here has soldiers all over the place, as well as observation posts all over the place,' Melugin said of the scene. Video footage shows suspected cartel members firing multiple rounds across the border into the United States. Fox News’ Bill Melugin and his crew captured the gunfire on camera Thursday night from Roma, Texas, and said Texas National Guard soldiers stationed at the border have witnessed many cartel gunfights in the area.  Melugin witnessed the gunfire firsthand, calling it "remarkable" Friday on "America's Newsroom." Gov. Kemp meets with Georgia National Guard Troops stationed in McAllen, Texas on October 6, 2021. Governor Brian P. Kemp yesterday visited McAllen, Texas to receive a briefing from the Georgia National Guard and stand with nine other governors to outline a plan to secure our nation’s southern border. “Last month, I joined twenty-five other governors to request a meeting with President Biden because the crisis on the southern border requires swift federal action,” said Governor Kemp. “Like their complete lack of attention to our unsecured border, the president and the vice president have not responded to our request. "The Texas Department of Public Safety is committed to securing our southern border under the direction of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott," the statement read. "We continue to monitor the situation as it unfolds in order to make real-time decisions and will adjust operations as necessary. "As we work closely with the Texas Military Department, any potential threats toward law enforcement and the Texas Military Department will be fully investigated, and those responsible will be arrested and charged to the fullest extent of the law," it added. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has been fiercely critical of the Biden administration's handling of the migrant crisis, denouncing President Biden and his senior officials for drawing unprecedented numbers of migrants through open borders policies only to leave border states and towns to defend themselves. "President Joe Biden has caused a humanitarian crisis and chaos on our border," Abbott said at a news event Wednesday, joined by 10 fellow Republican governors. But criticism has not only come from Republicans. Democratic border Rep. Henry Cuellar (Texas) warned earlier this year that Biden's lax illegal...
A group of Republican governors convened at the southern border on Wednesday to demand President Joe Biden more directly address the migration crisis – including by finishing the wall. Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who was flanked by nine other GOP state leaders, said the president has refused to meet with them over this issue and lamented he has still not visited the border the U.S. shares with Mexico. 'This is one of, if not the most urgent matter that we're facing,' Abbott said. A group of 25 GOP governors sent a letter to Biden 16 days ago demanding a meeting with the president, but have not yet heard back from the White House. Arizona Governor Doug Ducey said during the press conference on Wednesday: 'The situation here is certainly outrageous… It's a tragedy. Janice McGeachin, a Republican, acted like the governor, Brad Little, also a Republican, when the latter was out of the state – in accordance with the state’s constitution. While Little was in Texas on Tuesday, McGeachin issued an executive prohibiting state agencies, including K-12 schools and universities, from instituting coronavirus vaccine mandates or testing. (CNN)An extraordinary public feud between Idaho's two top leaders escalated on Tuesday when the state's governor, Brad Little, accused fellow Republican Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin of overstepping her authority by ordering the state National Guard to the US-Mexico border while he was in Texas visiting the border.McGeachin, who is running for governor next year, also drew Little's ire on Tuesday when she attempted to broaden his executive order banning so-called vaccine passports."Before I even left the state, the Lt. Governor unabashedly requested information from the Adjutant General to deploy our National Guard to the border, the same place I am visiting today to work with my fellow Republican governors on solutions to the crisis," Little said in a statement posted on Twitter. He traveled to Texas to meet with nine other governors to discuss border security and take a boat tour of the Rio Grande River. Idaho's Constitution says that in the event that the governor leaves the state, the lieutenant governor takes control of "the powers, duties and emoluments" of the governorship until the governor returns.CNN has contacted the...
What else? McGeachin wasn't finished there, however. She also sought to deploy Idaho National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border this week in Little's absence. In a letter to Maj. Gen. Michael J. Garshak obtained by the AP, McGeachin wrote, "As of Wednesday, my constitutional authority as Governor affords me the power of activating the Idaho National Guard. As the Adjutant General, I am requesting information from you on the steps needed for the Governor to activate the National Guard." The lieutenant governor's request was ultimately rebuffed, but Little took notice of the attempt and used it to slam his opponent. "Attempting to deploy our National Guard for political grandstanding is an affront to the Idaho constitution and insults the men and women who have dedicated their life to serving our state and the country," Little said in a statement.Anything else?In May, while Little was in Nashville, Tennessee, attending a meeting of the Republican Governors Association, McGeachin issued an executive order barring local governments from implementing mask mandates. Idaho Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin on Tuesday issued an executive order banning vaccine mandates and required coronavirus testing in schools and colleges in the state, prompting Gov. Brad Little to say he had not authorized her to act on his behalf while he was at the U.S-Mexico border.  Little said he would "rescind" any executive orders McGeachin issues while he is away and she is acting governor, including her attempt this week to send National Guard troops to the border.  "I am in Texas performing my duties as the duly elected Governor of Idaho, and I have not authorized the Lt. BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The commanding general of the Idaho National Guard told Republican Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin on Tuesday that she can’t activate troops to send to the U.S.-Mexico border. Major General Michael J. Garshak in a letter to McGeachin says a call for help from border states earlier this year involved law enforcement, not National Guard troops. Republican Gov. Brad Little announced Monday he was going to the Texas-Mexico border to meet with nine other Republican governors on Wednesday over concerns on how President Joe Biden is handling border issues. McGeachin is the acting governor while Little is out of state. “As of Wednesday, my constitutional authority as Governor affords me the power of activating the Idaho National Guard,” McGeachin told Garshak in a letter sent Tuesday morning and obtained by The Associated Press. “As the Adjutant General, I am requesting information from you on the steps needed for the Governor to activate the National Guard.” Garshak replied with one paragraph on Tuesday afternoon. “I am unaware of any request for Idaho National Guard assistance under the...
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott released a video Saturday of Texas National Guard "gearing up" at the U.S. southern border in response to a large migrant caravan approaching the U.S. southern border. "Texas National Guard is gearing up at the border for increased caravans attempting to cross the border caused by Biden’s open border policy," Abbott tweeted. "They are working with the Texas Dept. of Public Safety to seal surge locations at the border & arrest trespassers." Abbott made a similar tweet Sept. 28, writing, "Texas National Guard surge transports tactical vehicles to the border. The @TexasGuard continues to surge equipment & personnel to the Texas border to provide more support to address Biden's ongoing crisis. Texas is securing the border." Abbot's move comes as a massive migrant caravan makes its way toward the U.S. southern border. In October, the Texas National Guard is doubling the number at the border by stationing approximately 2,500 troops. DEL RIO, Texas — Governor Greg Abbott ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety and National Guard to use vehicles to create a miles-long barrier to stop the flow of mostly Haitian migrants from crossing the Rio Grande. The vehicle barrier, along with the recently constructed Texas border fencing, effectively blocked the illegal crossings and enabled Border Patrol officials to reduce the population of the Del Rio migrant encampment. (Photo: Bob Price/Breitbart Texas) Governor Abbott ordered the DPS and Texas National Guard on September 19 to begin the use of a vehicle barrier to block the crossing of migrants from Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, to Del Rio, Texas. Since that time, hundreds of law enforcement vehicles poured into the region creating a miles-long barrier along the Rio Grande, DPS officials told the governor during a briefing on Tuesday in Del Rio. On our way to @GovAbbott ‘s press conference on border security, we are seeing (quite deliberately, I’m sure) a lot...
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Friday urged President Biden to deploy the National Guard in response to the Haitian migrant surge at Del Rio, Texas which has overwhelmed the small town and has officials describing the situation as "out of control.""The Biden Administration must recognize this for what it is: A National Security Crisis," McCarthy said in a statement. "As such he must fully deploy the National Guard to the southern border to help our Border Patrol agents with more resources to control the situation." On Wednesday there were approximately 4,000 migrants there, but by Friday it was above 11,000, with multiple sources telling Fox News they believe that tens of thousands more are behind them.  Fox News captured images of hundreds of migrants streaming across the dam, as Texas lawmakers expressed horror at the scenes unfolding beneath the Del Rio bridge. Trump Organization head of security and another senior executive are expected to testify in front of a grand jury this week as part of the Manhattan District Attorney's investigation into the company's finances.   Matthew Calamari Jr., the company's corporate director of security and the son of Donald Trump's former bodyguard, was served with a subpoena, according to the Wall Street Journal. Prosecutors are reportedly investigating an apartment he received from the Trump Organization and how it was reported for tax purposes. They have  long sought the cooperation of Calamari Jr. and his father, who has worked for the Trump Organization for decades and is now the company's chief operating officer.  'I won't comment on the specifics, but if either of my clients are subpoenaed to testify before the grand jury, they have no choice but to do so, and will appear and testify truthfully,' Nicholas Gravante, who represents both Calamaris, told Business Insider.  'As I have said repeatedly, they have done nothing wrong and have nothing to hide.'  Matthew Calamari Jr., the Trump Organization's corporate director of security and the...
EDINBURG, Texas  (CBSDFW.COM) – A nine-year old boy was one of several migrants saved by border patrol agents at the Texas–Mexico border this week. The man trying to smuggle the boy (who’s from El Salvador) into the U.S. abandoned him in the brush. The child’s brother called the Falfurrias Border Patrol Station on August 28 asking for help. He gave agents coordinates to where the boy wae. They were immediately dispatched to search the area. Within an hour, agents were able to locate the Salvadoran child who was found with his mother. The subjects were taken to the Falfurrias Border Patrol Station for medical assessment. MEXICO CITY (AP) — Several hundred migrants, including many children, headed north from near Mexico’s border with Guatemala on Saturday hoping to reach the U.S., but Mexican security forces dispersed the group several hours later. About 300 Haitians, Cubans and Central Americans set out on foot from the town of Tapachula, and a few hundred more migrants joined in as the walk progressed. After about eight hours, they passed through an immigration checkpoint without problems, but then National Guard troops in riot gear blocked their way as a heavy rain fell. Some of the migrants were arrested while others eluded capture and kept heading north. By Saturday night they were arriving the town of Huixtla, said Rev. Heyman Vazquez, a priest who works with migrants. Immigration agents also helped break up the group. An Associated Press journalist saw one immigration agent kick a migrant who was already immobilized and on the ground. The Collective of Monitoring and Documentation of Human Rights of the Southeast, which is a coalition of groups that work with migrants, said some people were injured...
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Tuesday that he has authorized state National Guard members to arrest people who illegally cross the Texas-Mexico border. Along with performing a law enforcement function, Abbott said Guard members will also help with the early stages of constructing border barriers and a border wall.  "The Texas National Guard is playing an unprecedented role to secure the border because of the unprecedented refusal of the federal government to fulfill its obligations under federal law," the governor said in a statement. The National Guard typically doesn't have immigration law enforcement capabilities, according to Border Report. The Texas National Guard received this Tuesday the endorsement of the mayor Greg abbott to stop undocumented immigrants from crossing the border line illegally and will be operating on the border with Mexico to enforce the ordinance. The troops have supported local and federal authorities in immigration matters in recent months, but they were limited to carrying out functions of observation, maintenance and improvement of infrastructures, as they did with the border fence. However, Republican Abbott, who for some months has been waging a political and judicial battle on immigration matters against Joe Biden, wanted to go one step further, and ordered the state security forces to keep this ordinance in compliance. “They are authorized to enforce Texas law, including arresting people who cross the border illegally and violate state law. The Guard is playing an unprecedented role in securing the border due to Biden’s refusal to enforce the law....
Texas Republicans on Thursday proposed sending an additional 18,000 National Guard troops to the border and doubling security spending. The additional spending would cover 1,800 additional National Guard troops, more boats deployed in the Rio Grande River and costs associated with prosecuting and jailing migrants arrested on state offenses including trespassing and trafficking, according to an analysis by The Dallas Morning News. “Texas is going to start arresting everybody coming across the border — not just arresting them, but because this is now going to be aggravated trespass, they’re going to be spending half a year in jail, if not a year in jail,” Abbott told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on June 2. Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey announced Wednesday that he's keeping National Guard members at the U.S.-Mexico border for another year, citing an "escalating man-made crisis at the border." "The Biden-Harris administration has utterly failed to secure the border," said Ducey, in a news release by his office. "It’s clear that this White House has neither the ability nor the desire to address the border disaster — a crisis of their own making." "Illegal immigrant apprehensions are the highest in two decades. Law enforcement is overwhelmed. The situation is out of control. This situation is the direct result of reckless policies and failed communication by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris," he added.  BORDER PATROL AGENTS TARGET OF ATTACKS FROM MEXICO; ONE AGENT SHOT AT 20 TIMES Arizona Gov. The U.S. Coast Guard announced this week that it had deported 29 Cuban nationals found attempting to reach Florida by sea, the independent Cuban outlet 14 y Medio reported Tuesday. The 29 join another 27 deported at the end of last month using makeshift vessels to navigate the straits of Florida. The first group was believed at the time to be the first to attempt the crossing into America following the nationwide anti-communist protests that occurred on July 11. The July 11 protests triggered a wave of disproportionate violence by the Communist Party and its repressive forces against both protesters and people suspected of simply disagreeing with Marxist ideology. Cubans documented instances of state security forces opening fire on unarmed crowds that had assembled to call for the end of the 62-year-old regime and door-to-door raids in which participants in the protests, confronted days later, were beaten in their own homes and shot in front of their children. Human rights groups have confirmed over 1,000 arrests and forced disappearances of individuals believed to disagree with the government since July 11. The...

Troubling drone footage emerged online Sunday that reportedly showed up to 1,000 migrants being held by border patrol in Mission, Texas, prompted criticism from Republicans who said the footage underscores the crisis at the border.  "An absolute catastrophe from Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and House & Senate Democrats," Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., posted on Twitter.  She retweeted a post from Bill Melugin, a Fox News national correspondent. He said the footage showed the "largest group of migrants we’ve ever seen being held by Border Patrol under Anzalduas Bridge in Mission, TX." "Looks like it could be up to 1,000 people," he posted. "We can only get a look at the area with our drone. There’s a popular Rio Grande crossing area nearby." Border patrol did not immediately respond to an after-hours email from Fox News seeking comment about the video. Republicans have been critical of the Biden administration over its handling of the border issue. They say the president should be more assertive in getting the problem under control given that there is a global pandemic. Gov. Greg Abbott, a...
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A U.N. office in western Afghanistan came under fire on Friday and one of its guards was killed as the Taliban and Afghan forces waged fierce battles in the area, the United Nations said. The clashes were taking place in the district of Guzara in Herat province, about 10 kilometers (6 miles), from the Herat provincial capital. It wasn’t immediately clear which side was responsible for the fire that hit the U.N. office. Fighting has intensified across Afghanistan as the last U.S. and NATO troops complete their pullout. The Taliban have overrun dozens of districts and seized several strategic border crossings. Deborah Lyons, the U.N. special representative for Afghanistan, called the incident deplorable and said the U.N. was in touch with both sides in the conflict to determine how the office came under fire and by whom. “The perpetrators of this attack must be identified and brought to account,” she said. “The U.N. is urgently seeking to establish a full picture about the attack and for this purpose is in contact with the...
