Director Ridley Scott has defended his House of Gucci film, claiming its creators tried to be 'respectful and 'factual' as possible, after the Gucci Family slammed the Lady Gaga-led movie.  The flick, which also stars Adam Driver, hit theaters on November 24 and raked in $21.8 million during its first five days - but the Gucci family were certainly not pleased with it. They said in a statement on Monday that Al Pacino's portrayal of Aldo Gucci, who founded the Italian fashion brand in 1953, 'couldn’t be further from the truth.' In April, Patrizia Reggiani - the ex-wife of Gucci heir Maurizio - also claimed that Pacino looked 'fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly' in on-set photos.  The family's statement also said they took issue with how certain members were painted 'as thugs, ignorant and insensitive to the world around them.'  Now, Ridley has responded to their comments, and he called the family's response 'alarmingly insulting.'  'The people that were writing from the family to us at the onset were alarmingly insulting, saying that Al Pacino did not represent physically Aldo Gucci in...
The Gucci family is not pleased with the new film House of Gucci, saying in a statement that the portrayal 'couldn’t be further from the truth' and that they take issue with how members were painted 'as thugs, ignorant and insensitive to the world around them.' The film, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Adam Driver and Lady Gaga, hit theaters on November 24 and raked in $21.8 million during its first five days — but the heirs of Aldo Gucci, who was played by Al Pacino in the movie, are criticizing it for inaccuracies. In a statement released in Italian, they say they are 'a bit disconcerted' because 'the film carries a narrative that is far from accurate,' adding that the misrepresentation is 'extremely painful' and 'an insult to the legacy on which the brand is built today.' Patrizia Reggiani's story has been brought to life on the big screen in Ridley Scott's House Of Gucci, yet the wildest parts of her life have reportedly been left out. A guard in the women's prison where she served her sentence for hiring a hitman to kill her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci spoke to The Daily Beast about the untold wild side of the socialite, 72, who is played by Lady Gaga in the film.  The insider said of the 'Black Widow' and what was not shown in Scott's epic: 'She was Lady Gucci in prison too. She never let anyone forget who she was.'   Just one anecdote involved Patrizia entering prison with an emotional support ferret named Bambi in 1997, however the beloved pet was brutally killed after another prisoner sat on it halfway through her run.  Colourful: Patrizia Reggiani's story has been brought to life on the big screen in Ridley Scott's House Of Gucci, yet the wildest parts of her life have reportedly been left out (pictured in 2014) During her 18-year sentence for the hit, Patrizia used her 2014...
As one of Hollywood’s loudest proponents of Method acting, Jared Leto has long been one of those performers who loves “disappearing” into a role. In House of Gucci, he finally succeeds—for better and for worse. For most of his career, Leto’s shapeshifting has been more conspicuous than chameleonic. But Ridley Scott’s fashion epic uses the actor’s zeal for over-the-top “transformative” performances to its advantage. Somewhere between the prosthetic nose, the “it’s-a-me!” accent, and the hideous corduroy jackets, Leto does become unrecognizable. The trick only becomes funnier once you realize this floundering, narcissistic Fashion Wario is actually Leto—an actor defined, increasingly, by his relentless ego. The Oscars conversation is far from set, but House of Gucci could win sophomore awards for both Leto and Lady Gaga. As exciting as it is to consider Gaga adding yet another gold statuette to the shelf, however, Leto’s awards contention is more complicated. What should we make of this performance and the boost it could give Leto’s image, given the unsettling rumors that have hung over him for years? Lady Gaga tears through House...
Early in 1995, the glamorous former wife of fashion magnate Maurizio Gucci went shopping in Milan for a special outfit. This in itself was not unusual since in those days Patrizia Reggiani was something of a designer clothes horse, fond of colourful frocks and film star dark glasses. Except on this occasion she bought an elegant black suit and veil to wear to 46-year-old Maurizio's funeral – even though he was very much alive and, by all accounts, in rude health. Patrizia knew, however, what was coming next. Springing up the steps of his offices on Milan's elegant Via Palestro one morning three months later, Maurizio was approached from behind by a dark-haired man who pulled out a gun and put three bullets in his back and a fourth in his head. The murder transfixed Italy. Before their acrimonious split, Maurizio, the last of the Gucci family dynasty to run the luxury brand, and Patrizia, his flamboyant, strong-willed wife, had been a celebrity power couple. A tip-off led to Patrizia's arrest in 1997. A search of her Cartier diary revealed she...
ROME—In many ways, the real story of Patrizia Reggiani, played by Lady Gaga in House of Gucci, begins where the film ends. The once grande dame of Milan high society turned murderess spent 18 years in San Vittore prison—which was once occupied by German Nazis—which she preferred to call “San Vittore residence.” In various interviews after her incarceration, she referred to her time there as both “relaxing” and “horrible,” during which she “slept a lot.” But a prison guard who worked in the women’s wing when she was there says it wasn’t always easy for the diva. She enjoyed certain privileges, including being allowed to keep an emotional support ferret named Bambi in her cell. The animal sadly died when another prisoner sat on it about halfway through her sentence. She spent her recreational time getting sun in the prison yard as if it were a private beach club she was accustomed to. The guard, who is not authorized to speak due to privacy issues, told The Daily Beast that she used her fame—and infamy—to get other inmates to do...
By Lindsey Bahr | Associated Press Everything in “House of Gucci” is over the top. The accents. The performances. The fashion. The settings. The runtime. The music. The greed. This movie knows exactly what it is and, sweetie, it is gloriously decadent, ridiculous fun. There is an alternate universe in which ” House of Gucci ” is a subtle Italian-language film. Perhaps it’s a more straightforward tragedy. Maybe it’s even a limited series taking the viewer back to the origins of the Italian luxury label, in 1921. But director Ridley Scott, and screenwriters Becky Johnston and Roberto Bentivegna, have chosen the route of operatic artificiality. You don’t cast Jared Leto as clownish Fredo-type and have him act against a father played by Al Pacino by accident. Big is the point. Based on a book by Sara Gay Forden, “House of Gucci” is about the dissolution of the Gucci dynasty. Their reign over the eponymous leather goods and fashion house lasted only three generations. But as any new money family knows, by the time the third generation takes over, usually no...
Dripping in glamour and treachery and based on a true-life story, the House Of Gucci has got both film and fashion fans buzzing. From a virginal bridal gown to sizzling skiwear, the film has its leading lady — Lady Gaga as jealous Patrizia Reggiani, who hired a hitman to kill her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci — tripping a veritable catwalk of style across the big screen. Ahead of today's release, Oscar-winning British costume designer Janty Yates, exclusively reveals the secrets that turned Lady Gaga into 'the Black Widow' ... 1: SHORT CUT TO STYLE First impressions count, and the dress worn by Patrizia when she met Maurizio Gucci at a party is a belter, based on a pink dress the real-life Patrizia wore. It was made using duchess satin and took six weeks to fit at the hands of Janty's costume cutter, Dominic Young. Originally the gown was much longer — rising by 18 in at Ridley Scott's request. Janty says: 'We kept five camera crews waiting that day, luckily LG [as she calls Lady Gaga] had her man with her...
Lady Gaga revealed she spoke in an Italian accent with her own mother Cynthia in order to remain in-character as Patrizia Regianni during filming for House Of Gucci. The singer, 35, told Alison Hammond during an appearance on Thursday's This Morning that she took the role home with her due to her dedication. She said: 'That's just the way that I do it. You live in an alternate reality so when I was at the hotel, I was in character. Wow! Lady Gaga revealed she spoke in an Italian accent with her own mother Cynthia in order to remain in-character as Patrizia Regianni during filming for House Of Gucci 'And then I would go to set and I would still be in character, so my life really became the film. Patrizia Reggiani is standing by her story. The former wife of one-time luxury fashion house heir Maurizio Gucci is the subject of Ridley Scott’s new movie "House of Gucci" which stars Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Salma Hayek, Jared Leto and Al Pacino. The film is based on a book about the 1995 murder-for-hire of Gucci, 46, and the subsequent trial and conviction of his ex-wife. Reggiani, portrayed by Gaga, served 16 years in prison for contracting the murder. House of Gucci (15) Rating: Lady Gaga, with her customary penchant for shrinking into the shadows, turned up at the London premiere of Sir Ridley Scott's new movie House of Gucci two weeks ago swathed in a diaphanous purple gown (Gucci, naturally) with a train long enough to satisfy Great Western Railway. And the frock, it turned out, matched her acting. Gaga, now a veteran leading lady after 2018's exhilarating A Star Is Born, gives a big purple showstopper of a performance in House of Gucci. The singer has revealed that she drew on her teenage experience of sexual assault to portray Patrizia Reggiani, the woman with more front than Milan cathedral who in 1972 married Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), heir to the fashion empire, and later, the year after their 1994 divorce, had him murdered by a hitman. (CNN)"House of Gucci" takes a seemingly can't-miss combination of talent and material and produces what feels like the knockoff version of a really grand drama. Lady Gaga and Adam Driver bring buzz to director Ridley Scott's dive into the dysfunctional family behind the fashion empire, but in a movie that doesn't rise to the level of delicious trash, winding up largely defined by its stylish accessories.Based on a book and covering nearly two decades from the late '70s into the mid-'90s, the film hinges on the relationship between Gaga's Patrizia and Driver's Maurizio Gucci. The heir was at first disowned by his father (Jeremy Irons) for marrying a lower-class girl, before being wooed back into the fold by his colorful uncle Aldo (Al Pacino), who sees Maurizio as having more potential to lead the family business than his foppish son, Paolo (Jared Leto, under the most unflattering makeup since Tom Cruise suited up for "Tropic Thunder").The story begins briskly enough, as Patrizia clearly sets her sights on Maurizio, making his father's suspicions that she's "after your money, like they all...

"[Patrizia] very much uses sex as a tool, and I feel like it kind of physically embodies what's going on between them," the actor told Entertainment Weekly at the Nov. 16 premiere. "He comes from this not necessarily emotionally vapid, but [his life is] not as passionate, and that's what she brought," he explained. Asked how they ended up with the "animalistic noises" they both make in the scene, Adam smiled. "We blocked it out as we would any fight or any scene, then we...
'Black Widow' Italian socialite Patrizia Reggiani — whose plot to hire a hitman to kill her ex-husband, Maurizio Gucci, is portrayed in the upcoming film House of Gucci — is not happy that Lady Gaga didn't show her the 'courtesy' of meeting her before playing her in the movie. But Gaga, 35, says she didn't want to 'collude' with a murderer. 'I didn't want to meet her because I could tell very quickly that this woman wanted to be glorified for this murder, and she wanted to be remembered as this criminal,' she said on Good Morning America today. 'I didn't want to collude with something that I didn't believe in. This was one of the most notorious murders in Italian history — a bloody hit arranged by a spurned spouse, all set to the background of glamour, wealth and high fashion. MILAN (AP) — The great-grandchildren of Guccio Gucci, who founded the luxury fashion house that bears his name a century ago in Florence, are appealing to filmmaker Ridley Scott to respect their family’s legacy in a new film that focuses on a sensational murder. “The House of Gucci,” starring Lady Gaga and Adam Driver, is based on a book about the 1995 murder-for-hire of one of Gucci’s grandchildren, Maurizio, and the subsequent trial and conviction of his ex-wife. Patrizia Reggiani, portrayed by Lady Gaga, served 16 years in prison for contracting the murder. One of Maurizio’s second cousins, Patrizia Gucci, is worried that the film goes beyond the headline-grabbing true-crime story and pries into the private lives of the Guccio Gucci heirs. “We are truly disappointed. I speak on behalf of the family,” Gucci told The Associated Press on Wednesday. “They are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system….Our family has an identity, privacy. We can talk about everything. but there is a borderline that cannot be crossed.” Ridley...

Actors turned up the heat on the set of the highly anticipated film, which chronicles the murder of Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver) at the hands of a hit man hired by his ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga). The scenes represent happier times in the life of the former couple and show the beautiful romance that existed before the tragic murder that would take place years later, derived from the fear that Patrizia Reggiani had of not receiving a fair divorce agreement and that his daughter did not receive his inheritance of $ 170 million. The filming was carried out in Lake Como, Italy, on a rowboat and set in a gigantic smoke machine. Lady Gaga wore a tight white dress with floral details, over which she wore a plaid coat.
