An Italian dialogue coach who worked on the set of the upcoming drama House of Gucci says that Lady Gaga's 'Italian' accent isn't that great — and it sounds much more like Russian. The 35-year-old singer stars as Maurizio Gucci's ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani in the film, and has divulged that she 'lived' as the character for a year and a half — an even spoke with an accent nonstop for nine months. But Italian actress Francesca De Martini — who worked as the on-set dialect coach for Salma Hayek on the movie — thinks Gaga's accent could have used some work. 'I feel bad saying this, but her accent is not exactly an Italian accent, it sounds more Russian,' she told The Daily Beast. The season hasn’t even started yet but USC football coach Clay Helton has already secured a big win. USC football coach Clay Helton has been on the hot seat since the moment he was hired to lead the Trojans. That hasn’t changed entering this season after going 5-1 in the COVID-shortened 2020 season, but he’s entering the 2021 season with some momentum on his side. Helton announced on Tuesday evening that every member of the USC football team is fully vaccinated. This is a testament to great leadership and comes before a university-wide mandate requiring the vaccine, which Ohio State and LSU have made public earlier this week. Expect more universities to do the same now that the Pfizer vaccine has been granted FDA approval. While Helton’s been questioned for a litany of things during his tenure as the USC football coach and fans have dreamed of Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, James Franklin or any other prominent name to lead the Trojans, this is a big win for him. Helton said the team is 100% compliant when it comes...

Bettors at BetMGM are inclined to think so. The two most popular bets for Coach of the Year are coaches entering their first season running an NFL team. The Los Angeles Chargers’ Brandon Staley is the most-bet coach with 18.1% of wagers while the Atlanta Falcons' Arthur Smith is second with 16.7% of wagers. No other coach has been chosen by more than 7% of bettors. It’s easy to see why bettors are attracted to Staley and Smith. Both are entering jobs where the QB position seems settled. The Chargers have a promising QB in Justin Herbert coming off a strong rookie season and the Falcons continue to roll with the dependable Matt Ryan as their starter. The coach that’s drawing the most money is an established one, however. The Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay has...

The 2020-21 college football coaching carousel produced 15 coaching changes.   There were seven new hires made in the Power 5 and eight in the Group of 5. This cycle revolved around the SEC — past, present and perhaps future.  There are four new coaches in the SEC, including Tennessee’s Josh Heupel, Auburn’s Bryan Harsin, Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea and South Carolina’s Shane Beamer. Four former SEC coaches also took new jobs. That group is Illinois’ Bret Bielema, Arkansas State’s Butch Jones, UL-Monroe’s Terry Bowden and UCF’s Gus Malzahn. The Malzahn hire filled the last vacancy in this year’s cycle, at least for now.   MORE: Ranking the best September non-conference games of 2021 Sporting News sorts out the coaching changes. Rick Neuheisel has known Karl Dorrell so long, the first-year Colorado coach had hair when they met. “And you tell him I said that,’’ Neuheisel laughed recently while discussing his close friend’s surprising success in Boulder. They were teammates at UCLA in the mid-1980s — Neuheisel the chatty quarterback from Wisconsin, Dorrell the quiet receiver from the Bay Area, with lockers next to each other. From there came a lasting friendship, coaching companions … and bald jokes. “You talk about a guy who doesn’t say much, it was our sophomore year before I heard him talk,’’ said Neuheisel, who went on to become Colorado’s head coach in 1995 and hired Dorrell as the offensive coordinator. “He looks like the same old Karl to me on the sideline. He’s very stoic. But he’s got a fire inside.” A quarter century after Neuheisel and Dorrell coached together in Boulder, Dorrell returned to lead a program reeling from the unexpected departure of Mel Tucker. CU’s search lasted 10 days. Dorrell moved in, hired a staff and crafted a plan. Then the pandemic hit....
Joe Judge and the New York Giants are leading the NFC East. It’s time to consider him a member of the Coach of the Year conversation.  How does one define the Coach of the Year? How does a team that’s built to win and should be successful always takes home the hardware? Sometimes, the names that no one remembers find more success than those established. That’s because of Judge and nothing else. One look at the Giants’ misfit roster and one would wonder how anyone could win behind the offensive line and with an average secondary? That comes down to coaching, something the Giants have hit out of the Meadowlands and into Yankees Stadium. Kevin Stefanski has the Browns sitting with their first winning record in over a decade. Brian Flores has turned Miami’s defense into one of the league’s best and is winning with a rookie quarterback. Mike Tomlin took the Steelers to an 11-0 start despite average offensive play. All are deserving of consideration. So is Judge at this point. If the Giants keep winning, they’ll make it to the postseason...
New York Giants: Joe Judge putting together case for Coach of the Year By: Cay North December 6, 2020 ShareTweetFlipRedditAwards are secondary to performance, but it’s hard to argue that New York Giants coach Joe Judge doesn’t deserve some kind of award or another if the team can keep up their sudden turnaround in the second half of the season. The Giants have picked up their fourth straight win, and for the first time in years, it’s December and it legitimately looks like the team could be in the playoffs. Coaching, of course, has been a big part of the reason why they were able to turn things around. There’s other coaches in contention, but as for the reasons Joe Judge should be in consideration for the Coach of the Year award, there’s more than one compelling argument. Joe Judge inherited an unstable position (and turned things around anyway) New York isn’t a great place to be a rookie head coach right now. While there is inherent appeal in turning around...
Welcome to the third and final installment of our Pac-12 basketball preview series. We began the rollout Monday with a look at steps the conference is taking to mitigate risk and position teams to play as many games as possible. (The plan includes wearable tracking devices.) Tuesday brought our projections for the conference race/team analysis, and below you’ll find our picks for individual honors. I’d also point readers to the Pac-12 stock report, which we published this morning. It addresses a key development for college sports: The CDC’s move to reduce quarantine time. Coach of the Year: Utah’s Larry Krystkowiak. The Utes will blow past expectations and secure Krystkowiak’s first COY award even though he has produced four top-three finishes with teams often picked for the bottom half of the conference. Player of the Year: Arizona State’s Remy Martin. We considered (very seriously) UCLA’s Chris Smith but opted for Martin because of his ability to positively impact the game at all times, on both ends, and elevate the play of his teammates. Freshman of the Year: USC’s Evan...

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been left off the final shortlist for the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award for first time in 10 years, with Kevin De Bruyne and Robert Lewandowski set to battle it out for the individual prize. Ronaldo, who currently plies his trade in Italy with Juventus, has picked up the accolade on three occasions and also has a total of nine nominations to his name, while Barcelona superstar Messi has won it two times and made the final shortlist in six of the last 10 seasons. Both men have stood out as the best players of their generation for well over a decade, but as they continue to advance into their thirties, an inevitable changing of the guard is beginning to take shape. Juventus exited the Champions League at the last 16 last season after a surprise defeat to Lyon, while Barca were knocked out in humiliating fashion in the last eight by eventual winners Bayern. Ronaldo only managed three goals in eight appe arances and Messi recorded three strikes in the same number...
Frank Reich and the Colts could be in for a terrific 2020 season. Frank Reich arrived in Indianapolis with the fanbase already a little trepidacious. Despite serving as offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, Colts fans were still questioning the organization’s second choice for head coach after Josh McDaniels chose to back out of his commitment to the Colts and remain with the New England Patriots. Despite a constantly shifting quarterback room and injuries galore, Reich has compiled an 18-16 record with a road playoff win in his first two seasons in charge in Indianapolis. With the AFC South once again wide open, Reich and GM Chris Ballard have improved the Indy roster enough to once again make a charge towards the postseason that could end up with Reich earning himself some silverware. Ryan Day, Ohio State Buckeyes. (Photo by Ralph Freso/Getty Images) What if it’s only two years for Ryan Day leading Ohio State football?Ohio State football knows it has a fantastic head coach in Ryan Day, but will he stay? Day has only been the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes for a season, but he’s already produced incredible results leading the Big Ten powerhouse. In his first year taking over for his mentor Urban Meyer, Day went 13-1, won the Big Ten Championship with an undefeated record and made the College Football Playoff as the No. 2 overall seed. Though the Buckeyes lost a heartbreaker to the No. 3 Clemson Tigers in the Fiesta Bowl, Ohio State finished with a No. 3 final ranking in every major poll. If we were to add his three victories as the Ohio State interim coach while Meyer was dealing with health issues in 2018, Day is 16-1 in 17 games. His only loss was his most recent game, and that was to the sport’s reigning dynasty. Should Ohio State live up to...
