Prince William cut a dapper figure as he spoke during a meeting with The Earthshot Prize winners, finalists and several members of the Earthshot Global Alliance at the Glasgow Science Centre in Scotland on Tuesday morning.  The Duke of Cambridge, 39, who will also be joined by some members of The Earthshot Prize Council, donned a smart black suit adorned with a poppy as he started a busy day of engagements on the second day of COP26.   The meeting will provide an opportunity for Prize Winners and finalists to meet industry leaders and experts with a view towards supercharging and scaling their innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges.  William also reunited with former New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, 79, who he previously joined forces with to warn against 'environmental devastation' and urge 'decisive action' to tackle climate change in a piece co-authored for USA Today.   The US politician, one of the world's wealthiest men with a net worth estimated at more than 60 billion US dollars (£46.3 billion), who joined the royal's ambitious environmental initiative as a global...
New York (CNN Business)Editor's note: A previous version of this story misrepresented data about Latinos in the workforce. The study surveyed all public companies listed on the Nasdaq and NYSE. It incorrectly compared them to separate data sets of gains made by other groups represented in significantly smaller collections of companies, including the S&P 500. This story has been corrected. The number of African Americans serving on boards of directors for the nation's largest corporations has remained dismally low this year despite the ongoing movement to increase C-suite diversity throughout the business world. Some of America's most prominent companies are addressing the problem by backing the Black Boardroom Initiative, a new program unveiled Wednesday with a goal of increasing the ratio of Black executives sitting on S&P 500 corporate boards to one in eight by 2028.Amazon (AMZN), Microsoft (MSFT), Starbucks (SBUX) and Zillow (Z) are among the major brands sponsoring the initiative, which has been spearheaded by the law firm Perkins Coie with support from Deloitte, a multinational professional services network. The Black Boardroom Initiative is also working to identify candidates to...
Ana Sophia Rocha Yesterday at 20:29 British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has threatened to unilaterally suspend Northern Ireland’s protocol, warning European leaders at meetings outside the G7 summit that “both sides” must implement the Brexit agreement. As European leaders exchanged harsh accusations, US President Joe Biden devised an infrastructure plan to curb China’s progress. This Saturday morning, the leaders of Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the European Union (EU) seemed excited. Even Queen Elizabeth II, who teamed up for the family photo, dared to ask jokingly, “They should be like having fun.” Maybe he was guessing what was coming. After the Queen’s reception in Cornwall, England, French President Emmanuel Macron warned Johnson that his government should respect his word on Brexit. Otherwise, he will compromise the country’s relationship with France. For his part, the British leader, who wanted to exclude the issue from the summit, said the EU was creating “all sorts of obstacles” rather than using the protocol “wisely”. “I think we can solve the problem, but it’s up to our...

More than a hundred women have made public this Wednesday a manifesto in which they call on women from all over the country to join this initiative to raise a new feminist political organization, “thought by and for women”. Under the motto “Feminists to Congress”, The promoters of this initiative that are considered “abandoned to their fate by all the parties” aspire to turn their exhaustion “into a firm and determined proposal” for the creation of “a political organization that puts the Feminist Agenda at the center”. The idea is to form together with all the women who want to participate what will be the basis of the party, combining the skills and knowledge of all of them to achieve a solid proposal, yes, always with the feminist perspective as a starting point. In this sense, the signatories indicate that the main “historical vindications of feminism” are “unequivocally abolitionist”, such as: “gender, femicides, prostitution, pornography, labor and reproductive exploitation, the sale of babies, obstetric violence, religious misogyny, or the biological and social erasure of women. “ Among the...
The heir to the throne of France takes legal action against the foundation which manages his family’s property. Story. The case is worthy of an episode of Dallas or Dynasty ! The financial damage, he assures, originates from some subsidies that the state provides to some private participants, such as renewable power plants and self-supply contracts; the low dispatch of its plants –that is, the little energy that is managed to upload to the system–; an increasing rate scheme and some payments in dollars that must be made to private parties for the energy generated. “How much are we talking about these damages that we have already quantified from external producers? Both for subsidies, both for low dispatch, for the increasing rate, for the exchange risk, because in addition, they hired them (…) in dollars, but we sell energy in pesos “, explained the official during an open forum in the Chamber of Deputies. Sector specialists and organizations have argued that the energy produced via the sun or wind is extremely cheaper -many of these under the figure of self-supply-, but the state-owned CFE ensures that these have only generated losses to their finances, due to the energy of backup that must be provided by their centrals. ...

Leahy: Terry Dickson wants to talk about not being okay if Biden becomes president. Carol and I were talking about that. We have a little different viewpoint. Terry, what do you have to say? Caller Terry: I agree with what Miss Swain is saying. I think she’s great. I love her. But this is the time that we’re actually going to have to go into war. I mean, this is the time. These people are ruthless and they showed it. I can’t believe they got away with it. And we just sit back and think that’s okay. Donald Trump should never leave the White House. Never ever. These people will...
While proponents of an official safe-camping site haven't yet been able to set up camp in the city, they want to show Denver residents what such a spot would look like. "I think people don’t understand what we’re proposing. A lot of people think that we would sanction camping like it currently exists. What we’re trying to do is show how this is different," says Cole Chandler, director of the Colorado Village Collaborative, one of the organizations working on the Safe Outdoor Spaces program that proposes to establish safe-camping sites in Denver. This weekend, Chandler and others pushing the initiative will host an open house at a safe-camping site model in the parking lot of the Belong Church at East 16th Avenue and Ogden Street.Related Stories Five Points Safe Camping Site Option Faces Neighborhood Opposition Homeless Camps in Central Denver Are Growing, but Nothing New Homelessness Crosses Borders: It's a Challenge for Metro Denver "It’s going to be a small site," Chandler explains. Jack Dorsey recently donated $3 million to a coalition that supports and promotes Universal Basic Income. The organization is called Mayors for Guaranteed Income, a network that believes there should be an income floor for all Americans, an idea known as Universal Basic Income (UBI). Dorsey, the billionaire co-founder of Twitter, announced his decision in a tweet, “This is one tool to close the wealth and income gap, level systemic race and gender inequalities, and create economic security for families.” Stockton California Mayor Michael Tubbs is the leader of the coalition that Dorsey donated to. He leads the Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration, the first government-led guaranteed income initiative. Tubbs said in an interview of UBI, “This is how we build prosperity and build wealth and create opportunity for certain groups of people. We know, given the history of this country, that people of color and in particular Black people have historically been excluded from all the ways that the government has provided, not a handout but really a hand up.” UBI proponents argue that the coronavirus has exacerbated income...
