Getty Linebacker Devin Bush is frustrating Steelers brass. The Pittsburgh Steelers are not too happy with a former first-round draft pick’s development. According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Steelers have grown frustrated with third-year linebacker Devin Bush. His over-pursuit in run coverage and his liability in pass coverage have caught the attention of Steelers brass. The Steelers defensive unit currently ranks 23rd in points allowed and 28th in rushing yards allowed — a major contrast to the franchise’s identity over the years. “The Steelers leveraged significant draft capital and went counter to their usual draft process to move up 10 picks to select Devin Bush 10th overall in 2019, but frustration with Bush’s development are becoming more obvious,” via La Canfora. “Bush has struggled mightily this season, caught out of position at times and often over-eager to make a play, leading to him being benched occasionally and prompting questions about how to better unlock him, sources said. Bush is well liked and has a good attitude, but has been a liability in pass coverage, is...
Justin Fields’ performance in the stretch run of the season will set the tone in terms of what the Chicago Bears roster looks like going forward. Complicating that is the ribs injury he suffered Nov. 21 during the aggravating 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Fields missed the Thanksgiving Day victory in Detroit and Andy Dalton is set to start again Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals at Soldier Field. If you are compiling a list of young players not named Fields in position to offer hope for the future, start with outside linebacker Trevis Gipson. The 2020 fifth-round pick hasn’t gotten the attention given to wide receiver Darnell Mooney, tight end Cole Kmet, cornerback Jaylon Johnson, offensive tackles Larry Borom and Teven Jenkins or even running back Khalil Herbert, but Gipson is a player the Bears need to take a large step forward in the final six games. The others, of course, have carved out niches for themselves or are working to do that. Gipson has flashed on occasion, and with 17 games of experience entering...
Ashley Landis/Pool Photo-USA TODAY Sports Though the 2021-22 NBA season is still in its infancy, the early results already beckon for some franchises to swing a big trade. What’s the best part about the NBA? Trading, of course! The season is about a fifth of the way finished and a handful of teams already ride the struggle bus. Meanwhile, others search for the elusive piece that could catapult them to a higher echelon. Swapping players gives them a way forward. Trades stir excitement and sometimes act as the highlight of a given year, providing the prospect of hope to turn things around or rebuild for the future. At this stage, there’s still enough time for the former while the latter’s siren song of limitless possibilities always calls in the distance.Either way, these five NBA teams need to pick their direction and make a trade5. Getty Dallas Cowboys WR Amari Cooper. One of the most maligned former Raiders over the last few years has been wide receiver Amari Cooper. The 2015 first-round pick made the Pro Bowl in each of his first two seasons with the team but his production quickly took a nosedive. Over his last 20 games with the Raiders, he only had 960 receiving yards and would disappear for games at a time. The team decided to trade him to the Dallas Cowboys in the middle of the 2018 season for a first-round pick. After the trade, Cooper did throw a bit of shade at the Raiders, which earned him the ire of the fan base. However, it has been three years since the trade and there doesn’t appear to be any hard feelings. Cooper was supposed to play against his former team for the first time on Thanksgiving but will be sitting out due to COVID-19. He still had a chance to talk about his former team. “I don’t have any bitter feelings,” Cooper said. “I can’t say that...

On Saturday afternoon the Pittsburgh Steelers made a series of roster moves in anticipation of Sunday night’s showdown with Justin Herbert, Joey Bosa and the rest of the Los Angeles Chargers. Finally. At long last. Chicago Bears rookie Teven Jenkins returned to practice Monday afternoon at Halas Hall as the team opened its 21-day window to activate him from injured reserve. Jenkins has been out with a back injury since the Bears reported to training camp in late July. He had surgery Aug. 18 and was placed on IR when the season began. Bears coach Matt Nagy said Monday morning he was looking forward to testing Jenkins and getting a better feel for his strength and conditioning. “It’s been a while since Teven’s put the pads on, so we’ll start there,” Nagy said. “That will be exciting for us to see where he’s at. I know he’s really anxious and excited to get out there.” So what’s next in Jenkins’ recovery and return? What will happen with the young offensive tackle in the coming weeks? Here’s a look at six key questions. 1. Will Teven Jenkins be activated to the 53-man roster soon? All signs seem to be pointing in that direction. Coming off their Week...

Getty Fans and media are calling for the release of Josh Norman, right, after his costly taunting penalty against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9. Calls for the San Francisco 49ers to cut CB Josh Norman are growing louder in wake of Norman’s costly, if not symbolic, penalty at the end of the first half of Sunday’s painful 31-17 Week 9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. On Monday, November 8, SB Nation Reporter Kyle Posey joined the chorus chirping for the cornerback’s release from the team, as more outlets outside of the Bay Area are doing the same. “You have to draw the line somewhere,” Posey wrote in his column, citing the need to set an example out of Norman for a locker room that, at 3-5, looks dangerously close to self-combusting. Reaction to Norman’s taunting penalty – which came after a scuffle with a Cardinals player and grew into a verbal spat with Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury on what would have been a 4th & long  – were harsh immediately after the infraction. As a result, the team forfeited a third-round pick to grab him. Although Beal was considered to be a steal, who was projected to be a first-round pick if he entered the NFL draft, his tenure in New York was riddled with injuries. At the beginning of his first NFL training camp, Beal suffered a season-ending shoulder injury that torpedoed his entire rookie campaign. Getty The Bucs are bringing back Breshad Perriman. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reuniting with former wide receiver Breshad Perriman. Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians noted that Brown is still in a walking boot and expressed concern about the receiver’s injury. “I think you still have to worry a little bit about Gronk (Rob Gronkowski) and I don’t know if A.B. The Las Vegas Raiders released their second first-round pick of the 2020 draft on Monday, less than a week after losing their first. Getty Steelers' Najee Harris is tackled by Eagles DT Fletcher Cox. The Pittsburgh Steelers need a defensive tackle — bad. But not third-round draft pick bad. With Stephon Tuitt still on injured reserve, the Steelers engaged in trade talks with the Philadelphia Eagles for six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. According to Jason La Confora of CBS Sports, the two teams found themselves at an impasse when the Eagles required a third-round pick in exchange for Cox. The Eagles were focused primarily on moving players with expiring contracts, sources said, but Cox was brought up in some conversations, with the Steelers showing interest. Pittsburgh has a limited cap situation, but Cox’s recently restructured deal afforded the team the flexibility required to add such a player. However, sources said it would have required at least a third-round pick to pry Cox away, and the Steelers were not willing to do so. Getty LA Clippers big man Serge Ibaka in action against the Washington Wizards. Make no mistake about it — some things have been askew for the LA Clippers in the early season. Eric Bledsoe has struggled to adjust to his new digs, the team is currently dead last in rebounding percentage at 47.1 and, too often, Paul George has appeared to be flying solo on the court. All of that aside, though, the Clippers’ biggest problem is one of availability. The injury to Kawhi Leonard is the headliner, of course, but several other players have also been out with injuries, including key rotational cogs. Help appears to finally be on the way, however. As noted by The Athletic’s Law Murray and others, two names were notably absent from the Clippers’ latest injury report for the first time this season — Serge Ibaka and Keon Johnson. In October 2019, the Ravens sent linebacker Kenny Young and a 5th round pick to the Los Angeles Rams for cornerback Marcus Peters, a move that propelled the team to win out in its final 10 games and capture the AFC North title. Their season ended with a loss to the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round. The Philadelphia Eagles held on to Fletcher Cox, and actually added to their defense at the trade deadline thanks to the Broncos. Cox showed tremendous gratitude to Philly fans after the Eagles chose to hold on to the longtime defensive lineman on Instagram. The vet clearly loves being in Philadelphia, and Eagles fans love him back. Sure, the Eagles aren’t necessarily close to contention, but for general manager Howie Roseman to punt on him for a mid-round draft pick would be a curious decision. Looks like Fletcher Cox is staying put in Philly. ???? pic.twitter.com/RMxKvB4SfH — theScore (@theScore) November 2, 2021 The Eagles did add to their secondary, however, courtesy of the Broncos. Philadelphia acquired cornerback Kary Vincent, Jr. for a sixth-round draft pick, per Tom Pelissero.Eagles add before trade deadlineVincent, Jr. has been inactive for all eight Broncos games so far this season, but the Eagles clearly see something in him. Sara Ramirez Teases Her "Dynamic" Role in the Sex and the City Reboot Why political clout, financial stability could be on the horizon for Native American community The NFL isn't usually known for its trades, but perhaps that will change ahead of the 2021 NFL trade deadline. Once 4 p.m. ET passes, NFL teams will no longer be allowed to make trades, so teams looking to add — or subtract — from their squads will make a last-ditch effort to agree to deals before time expires. In years past, the deadline hasn't amounted to much. However, this year, we've already seen a couple of big trades. Zach Ertz was sent to the Cardinals for a rookie cornerback and a fifth-round pick in mid-October. Then, a day before the deadline, the Rams and Broncos agreed to a blockbuster trade to send long-time Denver pass rusher Von Miller to Los Angeles. Will we see another big name moved on Tuesday? Maybe not, but there are still plenty of playmakers with their names in the headlines. IYER:  15 players most likely to...

After center Chase Roullier received an initial diagnosis of a fractured fibula, the Football Team has placed him on injured reserve. Roullier was carted off the field in Sunday’s loss to Denver with an air cast on his left leg. Tyler Larsen replaced Roullier during the game and is expected to start at center with Roullier out. Roullier had played every offensive snap for Washington this season until his injury. He was a sixth-round pick in the 2017 draft. To take Roullier’s roster spot, the Football Team activated safety Darrick Forrest off of injured reserve. Getty Taco Charlton at Dallas Cowboys AT&T Stadium After the Pittsburgh Steelers kicked off NFL trade deadline day by sending linebacker Melvin Ingram to the Chiefs, the team continued to roll with additional roster moves. The only way the Steelers would’ve traded away a former Pro Bowl player like Ingram is if there was a sufficient option to replace him. Right now, Pittsburgh sees Taco Charlton as that man. Charlton, signed to the Steelers practice squad on September 21, was added to the 53-man roster on November 2. The defensive end was selected 28th-overall by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2017 NFL draft. Getty Melvin Ingram sacks Raiders quarterback Derek Carr. We all knew it was just a matter of time before linebacker Melvin Ingram found his way out of Pittsburgh. On numerous occasions over the last few weeks, Ingram has expressed displeasure with his role with the Steelers. On trade deadline day, November 2, Pittsburgh granted his wish. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the linebacker was sent packing to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round draft pick. The Chiefs got their wish, too. BOSTON (CBS) — Following a convincing road win over the Chargers on Sunday, the New England Patriots are 4-4 on the season and right back in the playoff picture. And after two straight wins, there is a feeling that this team is now very much worth improving ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. The Patriots have no shortage of needs, but before they snagged their first quality win over a quality opponent (Read: an opponent that isn’t led by a rookie quarterback), there was no real reason to think that they should address those areas. But the arrow is now pointing in a positive direction with the team at .500 and the AFC pretty much wide open near the season’s midway point. A Baltimore Ravens inside linebacker is recovering from a non-life-threatening injury after he was hit by a stray bullet.  “On Sunday night while attending a gathering in Cleveland, Malik Harrison sustained a non-life-threatening injury after being struck by a stray bullet in the left calf,” the Ravens announced on Monday. “Malik, who received medical care at a local hospital, has been in touch with our team doctors and will return to Baltimore today.”  Statement from the Baltimore Ravens: pic.twitter.com/RUhqtCBSnB— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) November 1, 2021 When reached for comment, the Ravens referred to The Hill their previous statement. Harrison, a 23-year-old third-round draft pick by the Ravens last year, started in the team’s first five games of the regular season before having his playing time decreased in the last two contests, according to an ESPN report. He is the second NFL player to suffer gunshot wounds this year.  Minnesota Vikings rookie defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman was shot in his arm, leg, buttocks and shoulder while sitting in a vehicle in Washington, D.C. in June, ESPN reported. Twyman, a sixth-round draft pick in this year’s...

They traded their star receiver, Stefon Diggs, to the Bills in exchange for four draft picks, including a 2021 first-round pick. Diggs had been with the Vikings since being a fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He developed into one of the best receivers in the NFL, but his time in Minnesota ended on a sour note. However, Vikings fans have forgiven him rather easily. That's because Justin Jefferson has emerged as a star for the Vikings. Jefferson was part of the return from the Diggs trade. The Vikings used the first-round pick that the Bills sent them to select Jefferson, and the LSU product quickly and seamlessly replaced Diggs. Jefferson will hope to continue his dominance as the Vikings take on the Cowboys on "Sunday Night Football." And who will line up across from him often during that contest? None other...

Prior to that, Gilmore spent the first five seasons of his career with the Buffalo Bills, who drafted him with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. In Carolina, Gilmore joins a defense that has already been an impressive unit without his help. Only the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns have allowed fewer yards per game...
Getty N'Keal Harry When November 2, 4pm ET rolls around, the New England Patriots’ N’Keal Harry is going to still be a topic of discussion. Right now, many are talking about Harry’s prospects of remaining with the Patriots after the break. At least one writer thinks there is truth to the speculation that Harry will be on the move. Harry requested a trade in July, and the Patriots should be willing to deal him. The 23-year-old has failed to establish a rapport with rookie Mac Jones—the third starting quarterback in as many years whom he hasn’t shown any chemistry with—and he’s drawn a meager five targets across four games. Harry has a $2.8 million cap hit this year and a $3.2 million cap hit in 2022. The Patriots would be wise to clear his salary from the books rather than watch him slog through another abysmal campaign. Although the Pats used the No. 32 pick on Harry in 2019—selecting him ahead of star wideouts like Deebo Samuel, DK Metcalf and A.J. Brown—they’ll likely have to choose between accepting...
Why The Morning Show Killed Off [SPOILER] in That Way 10 US Cities With Plenty of Jobs and Cheap Housing Here's a look at which teams should be busy between now and Tuesday, which players could be on the move and a few of our favorite pairings. We’ve arrived at the NFL trade deadline in a more extreme version of the league’s typical fashion: This year, it seems there are a handful of dominant teams surging and some easily identifiable bottom-feeders looking to shed talent in exchange for draft capital. Indeed, the Texans are built a little like one of those old-time merchant carts, wheeling their way through town hoping that someone will offer them shiny rocks in exchange for their goods. Mark Ingram has already been dealt to the Saints and he will not be the last Texans player on the move (we’re not talking about the quarterback, either). Also on the trade front so far, the Cardinals acquired Zach Ertz from the Eagles for a fifth-round pick and cornerback Tay Gowan. The Broncos acquired Kenny Young from...
Getty Las Vegas Raiders GM Mike Mayock. Mike Mayock’s tenure as the Las Vegas Raiders‘ general manager has yielded some truly questionable draft picks. The first pick he ever made was selecting Clelin Ferrell as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. It looked like the wrong move at the time and that hasn’t changed over two years later. In 32 career games, Ferrell has just 6.5 sacks. He’s essentially fallen out of the pass rush rotation this season. He has three combined tackles with no sacks in 2021. Ferrell is a hard-working player but it’s clear that he’s never going to be the elite defensive end the Raiders were hoping he’d be out of college. Considering Ferrell isn’t making much of a difference this season, the team could consider trading him at the upcoming deadline. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Raiders have already discussed the possibility. “Speaking of draft busts, the Raiders have had discussions involving 2019’s fourth pick, Clelin Ferrell,” Breer wrote. “The ex-Clemson star has 6.5 sacks in 32...

The trade that sent Ingram to New Orleans required the Saints to send back only a 2024 seventh-round draft pick, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. That’s next to nothing, and it suggests the Texans were ready to simply release Ingram if they couldn’t get a deal done for him. The Saints were willing to give up something very minor to get Ingram now, rather than wait until the Texans cut him. Houston appears just about ready to give up on the 2021 season and build for 2022 and beyond, so it’s unsurprising that they gave away a veteran player like Ingram. Now the question is whether more veteran players will be heading out of Houston, including perhaps quarterback Deshaun Watson. Saints sent Texans a 2024...
