(CNN)The International Olympic Committee (IOC) held a second call with Peng Shuai on Wednesday and said that the Chinese tennis star "reconfirmed" that she was safe and well given the "difficult situation" she is in, the sporting organization said on Thursday. One of China's most recognizable sports stars, Peng publicly accused a former top Communist Party official, Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli, of coercing her into sex at his home three years ago in a since-deleted social media post dated November 2.Peng was immediately muffled by blanket censorship and disappeared from public view for more than two weeks, prompting the women's tennis world to demand answers as to her whereabouts -- as well as a full investigation into her allegations against Zhang.Amid growing global outcry, individuals working for Chinese government-controlled media and the state sports system released a number of "proof of life" photos and videos of Peng. I offered her our support and to stay in touch at any time of her convenience, which she obviously appreciated.” The IOC released a statement in which they said Peng claimed to be at home in Beijing but asked for her privacy to be respected. A ritzy San Francisco condo tower that leans 22 inches has had repair work halted after holes drilled to fix its tilt were allegedly made too large.  The 545-foot, 58-story Millennium Tower has been sinking since its completion in 2009, and has subsided more than 18 inches along its base. But a $100 million attempt to right the tilt caused it to sink a further 1.3 inches on its northwest side, with San Francisco's Department of Building Inspections ordering work to stop last Friday. The latest chapter in the leaning saga began after crews started to install two-foot-wide piles - which are support beams used to create a stable foundation for heavy buildings - into the bedrock.  Engineers have likened the technique being used to that of a jack being propped under a car to change a flat tire.   A total of 39 piles were installed between May and late August, with 250 planned for installation along the building's north and west perimeter to fix the tilt.  But during this time, the building sunk another inch, causing it to lean...

London mayor Sadiq Khan has written to Boris Johnson requesting the immediate closure of all places of worship to curb the spread of coronavirus cases. Churches and other places of worship have been allowed to stay open during the current lockdown, but Mr Khan has asked that they be forced to close in a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The mayor has declared a “major incident” as the coronavirus infection rate has surpassed one per cent in the Greater London area. Khan said that such a state of emergency is justified because London’s hospitals risk being “overwhelmed.” “Our heroic doctors, nurses and NHS staff are doing an amazing job, but with cases rising so rapidly, our hospitals are at risk of being overwhelmed,” Khan said Friday. “The stark reality is that we will run out of beds for patients in the next couple of weeks unless the spread of the virus slows down drastically.” “We are declaring a major incident because the threat this virus poses to our city is at crisis point,” Khan said. “If we do not take...
Pfizer and BioNTech announced their COVID-19 vaccine candidate is now 95% effective and will soon be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration for emergency use authorization. On Wednesday, the drug makers revealed it completed the third phase of its vaccine and found it to be 95% effective against the coronavirus. MailOnline got hold of both consoles and put them to the test.  The X costs £449, the same as the comparative version of the PS5, whereas the S costs an astoundingly reasonable £249, £100 less than its PS5 equivalent.  In a coronavirus-ravaged 2020, consoles have to be able to offer enough to satisfy hardcore gamers while also being a do-it-all entertainment hub for the family.  Scroll down for video  Cuboid in shape, the X (left)  is Microsoft's most powerful ever console ever made while the cut-price Series S (right) is a digital-only console which is the smallest ever XboxSeries S specs  Storage: 512GB Frame rate: 120FPS  Processor: 4 Teraflops  Gaming resolution: 1440P Disk drive: None Video:...
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Since March, we’ve all had to get creative when it comes to connecting with friends and family. People have been taking advantage of the outdoors as much as possible during this time of limited contact. Here in Western Pennsylvania, we are lucky to be surrounded by so many great state parks and outdoor spaces in Pittsburgh or just outside the city. KDKA’s Celina Pompeani spoke with Charissa Sedor, a producer at the Buhl Planetarium at the Carnegie Science Center. Sedor says that stargazing has been a really popular outdoor activity during the Coronavirus pandemic. Recently, an uptick in stargazing seemed to be taking place due to Comet NEOWISE, which made its closest approach to Earth last week, but Charissa says you can still see it now. “So it will now be heading away from Earth, and getting a little bit dimmer, but will still be visible with stronger binoculars and telescopes for sure. If you have a camera that can take a lot of exposure, you’ll be able to see it that way as well,” Sedor said....
