CHICAGO (WLS) -- A sneak peek of Jennifer Hudson's new movie, Aretha Franklin biopic "Respect," played at AMC River East Thursday night. The film tells Franklin's life story, with Hudson playing the Motown legend. The opening of "Respect" was delayed many times due to the pandemic. Chicago was one of Franklin's favorite places to perform, and this tribute is anxiously awaited.Among those seeing the film tonight were Aretha's only relatives."I don't know a lot about her," said relative Latanza Waters-Miller, "I've met her at family reunions and things, but it's exciting to see how she started.""I'll give you a sneak preview," said Chaz Ebert. "I've actually seen the movie and Jennifer Hudson's done an amazing job in it.""Respect" opens in theaters next week, and there's already Oscar buzz for Hudson's performance.
CHICAGO (WLS) -- They built it, and they came; this year's Field of Dreams game features the White Sox elite youth team comprised of athletes from Chicago's underserved neighborhoods."Definitely a wonderful thing, especially to be one of the first teams to play in an event like this," said right fielder Lance moon. "It's definitely an honorable moment from us."The 14-year-old was born 18 years after the movie "Field of Dreams" was released, but he and his teammates are getting the chance to play on its famous field the day before the New York Yankees and White Sox square off there.Oh, and it will be nationally televised. It's an incredibly opportunity for the group of 14-and-under players. The program is funded entirely by White Sox Charities, and is designed to promote baseball to deserving kids who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play high level travel baseball. It's been a tremendous success; in a little over a decade more than 200 players have gotten college scholarships."It's a great program and provides opportunities that wouldn't ordinarily be there for them," said program manager...

Netflix’s new movie “A Classic Horror Story” looks incredibly creepy. The plot of the movie, according to the teaser’s description, is simply, “Music for children, an abandoned house, five strangers: it looks like the classic horror movie and instead…” (REVIEW: ‘Westworld’ Season 3 Ends With The Possible Deaths Of Multiple Characters) Obviously, that’s not a lot to go on, and preview doesn’t provide much else. However, it will make you very uneasy. Give it a watch below. I did some searching around the web for details on “A Classic Horror Story,” and there aren’t a ton out there. It’s an Italian film described as a combination of “Midsommar” and “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” according to SlashFilm.com. While horror isn’t my favorite genre, I can certainly get down for a great scary movie if it’s good. At the very least, I think it’s safe to say “A Classic Horror Story” looks very sinister and unsettling. The music in the teaser combined with what we were seeing was enough to make my skin crawl. Chris Pratt’s new movie “The Tomorrow War” looks outstanding. The plot of the film, according to the preview’s YouTube description, is, “Soldiers and civilians travel to the year 2051 to join a global war against a deadly alien species.” (REVIEW: ‘Westworld’ Season 3 Ends With The Possible Deaths Of Multiple Characters) If that’s not enough to get you excited, the first preview released Wednesday should be more than enough to get the job done. Give it a watch below. I know it was only a short preview, but this movie looks absolutely outstanding. It looks incredible on so many different levels. Chris Pratt appears to play some kind of badass operator hunting down aliens in the future. Yeah, you don’t need to say anything else. Sign me up!   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by The Tomorrow War (@thetomorrowwar) It’s truly incredible how big of a star Pratt has become over the past few years. The man went from being on “Parks and Rec” to arguably being the biggest actor in the game. Now,...
Sleep paralysis might be the closest experience to horror-movie fantasy that reality has to offer. Those plagued by the sensation suddenly lose their ability to move while in bed, and many report witnessing the same hallucination: a creeping figure in the shadows, watching them, preying on them. In Come True, which opens in select U.S. theaters, and on digital platforms and cable VOD on Friday, March 12, writer-director-cinematographer Anthony Scott Burns (Holidays) brings the parasomniac nightmare to its obvious place on the screen. Actor Julia Sarah Stone plays Sarah, a high school student who runs away from home only to fall victim to recurring episodes of sleep paralysis. Enrolling in a paid sleep study seems like a win-win for a stray teen, but the experiments only seem to make the horrific images that clog Sarah’s dreams even more harrowing. There’s obviously something more going on — as there should be in any good horror film. Throughout Come True, audiences float from Sarah’s dreary everyday life and the monstrous visions she endures. And like many young filmmakers working today, Burns...
The streaming service HBO Max published on February 14 the official trailer of the so-called ‘Snyder Cut’, a new montage of the film ‘Justice League’ directed by Zack Snyder. The director, who had to abandon the production of the original after the death of his daughter in May 2017, hopes to compensate for the mixed reactions that the film generated then and to completely captivate the fans. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is set to premiere on HBO Max on March 18.
Promised is debt: Universal Pictures has taken advantage of the Super Bowl to present the first official trailer for ‘Weather‘, the new film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. The first since ‘Glass (Cristal)’, and the first after his television foray by Apple TV + with the great ‘Servant’, whose second season we remember is currently in broadcast. Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Rufus Sewell, Gael Garcia Bernal, Alex Wolff, Vicky Krieps, Abbey Lee, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Ken Leung, Aaron Pierre, Embeth Davidtz and Emun Elliott lead the cast of this film that, fingers crossed, Universal Pictures intends to release in the United States on July 23, in Spain on August 13. Produced by Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan through Blinding Edge Pictures together with the now usual Marc Bienstock, this first preview is also accompanied by the confirmation that the film is freely inspired by the graphic novel by Pierre Oscar Lvy and Frederik Peeters that we know in Spain. under the title of ‘Sandcastle’. Officially, ‘Weather‘is a chilling and mysterious thriller about a family on vacation in a...
A new preview for “Nobody” has dropped, and the movie looks great. The plot of the film starring Bob Odenkirk, according to the trailer’s YouTube description, is, “A man is targeted by a ruthless drug lord after he helps a woman being harassed by a group of men.” (REVIEW: ‘Westworld’ Season 3 Ends With The Possible Deaths Of Multiple Characters) The promo that aired Sunday night during the Super Bowl promises plenty of action and insanity. Give it a watch below. This movie looks great, and I’ve thought that ever since I saw the first preview. Odenkirk doesn’t exactly give off the vibe of an action star, but it looks like he’ll pull it off. He went from “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul” to making an action movie about a man embracing his dark past.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Nobody (@nobodymovie) There’s also something inherently badass about characters who seemingly live normal lives but are really good at killing people. “A History of Violence” is a classic example of a...

Tom Hanks’ new movie “News of the World” looks outstanding. The plot of the movie, according to IMDB, is, “A widowed Civil War veteran agrees to deliver a girl, taken by the Kiowa people years ago, to her aunt and uncle, against her will. They travel hundreds of miles and face grave dangers as they search for a place that either can call home.” (REVIEW: ‘Westworld’ Season 3 Ends With The Possible Deaths Of Multiple Characters) Judging from the trailer, it looks like the Hollywood legend might have another monster hit on his hands. Give the preview a watch below. There is a 100% chance that I end up seeing this movie with Tom Hanks. We all know that Hanks is one of the greatest actors to ever live. When it comes to storied careers in Hollywood, there might be fewer than five other actors in the past 50 years who even come close. He’s not just a great actor, but he’s a generational talent in the acting game. “Saving Private Ryan” and “The Green Mile” are widely-considered two of the...
Fans of Chadwick Boseman will have to wait a little longer to see his last movie. Netflix has canceled a virtual preview event of “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” originally scheduled for Monday, in respect for the death of the talented actor, Deadline reported. Boseman stars alongside Viola Davis and Colman Domingo in the film, which is based on August Wilson’s play. A new date has not been set. The “Back Panther” star died Friday at the age of 43 after a four-year, private fight with colon cancer, which had him in an out of surgeries and chemotherapy while filming some of his most iconic performances. “We are heartbroken over today’s news of the passing of Chadwick Boseman, a ‘true fighter’ as his family called him in their poignant tribute,” Netflix said in a statement to Deadline. “This is an incredible loss. We are canceling Monday’s preview event of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Please join us in sending your thoughts to his family and loved ones.” Monday’s feature was going to include footage of the movie and commentary from Davis and...

We have an exclusive clip from Michael W. Bachochin’s highly-anticipated 2020 science-fiction movie, Parallax. The movie has not premiered at any festivals over the past few months, due to the world’s current state of affairs. However, the Primal Group aims to bring the Psychodrama/science-fiction to the masses this summer. Major movie theaters chains have been shut down since the beginning of the year, but Parallax is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on July 10th. Parallax focuses on a young artist who wakes up in a life that she doesn’t recognize, spending her time asleep haunted by nightmares of drowning in a black abysmal void. As she begins to uncover the truths of the life that she’s found herself in, the gravity of her failing reality weighs heavily on her psychological identity and the reliability of her sanity is called into question. Director Michael W. Bachochin has conjured some pretty intense feelings and visuals from the little amount of promotional material we’ve seen from the movie thus far. Thankfully, we have an exclusive clip from Parallax to share, which sheds...
