Mindy Kaling is giving the world a glimpse of a part of life that she usually keeps close to the vest. On Thanksgiving, the actress-producer, 42, shared to Instagram a rare photo of her daughter, Katherine Swati, 3, and son Spencer Avu, 1, as the eldest child pushed her baby brother in a stroller during a sunset beach outing. "What I’m grateful for this year," she captioned the tranquil snap. "Happy Thanksgiving, everyone." President Joe Biden issued a proclamation for Thanksgiving, noting Americans were grateful during the coronavirus pandemic. “Thanksgiving provides us with a time to reflect on our many blessings — from God, this Nation, and each other,” Biden wrote. “We are grateful for these blessings, even — and especially — during times of challenge.” Biden recalled George Washington declaring a day of Thanksgiving for his troops in the Revolutionary War, Abraham Lincoln celebrating Thanksgiving during the Civil War, and the Pilgrims celebrating Thanksgiving after their first hard year in America. The president noted that just like the pilgrims expressed gratitude to the Wampanoag American Indians for helping them through their first year, Americans should be grateful to those who helped them through the coronavirus pandemic. Biden specifically cited farmworkers and frontline workers for thanks, noting “many of whom are immigrants.” Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden is seen on the tarmac after stepping off Air Force One upon arrival at Nantucket Memorial Airport in Nantucket, Massachusetts on November 23, 2021. Getty Aaron Jones #33 of the Green Bay Packers reacts after defeating the Los Angeles Rams 32-18 in the NFC Divisional Playoff game at Lambeau Field on January 16, 2021 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Aaron Jones isn’t sure where he would be right now if the Green Bay Packers hadn’t re-signed him to a big-money contract extension this offseason, but he does know life would have been much harder without his Packers teammates by his side amid a challenging year for his family. When the Packers begin their season against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon, Jones will be taking the field for the first time in his NFL career without his biggest fan, his father Alvin Jones Sr., watching from the stands. The elder Jones passed away suddenly at the age of 57 back in April, prompting the Packers’ star running back to “dedicate the rest of (his) career” to his father’s memory. Jones will, however, have other members of his family — his Packers family — alongside him just as they were during the offseason...
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The first two days of the Minnesota State Fair have been two days of rain. The dry spells are longer than the downpours, but it’s caused some vendors to pivot a bit. Add to that, crowds are about half the size of what they normally are during the first days of the State Fair. So for vendors, rain or not, they are determined to stay open and weather whatever comes their way. But when the rain rolls in, they get soaked, especially if they don’t get their tarps up fast enough. “It’s getting wet. Tubs fill with water, so you just kind of have fun with it, because it only happens once a year,” one worker said. Jessica Love, of L&B Cotton Candy, says her family has been at the fair for more than 40 years, selling about 5,000 bags of cotton candy a year. Over the years they’ve learned a thing or...

The Daily Caller’s Lisa Bennatan went to Paris, France, and asked Parisians whether they are grateful for the United States’ help during World War II. Do any Parisians even remember America’s role in WWII 75 years later, let alone feel gratitude for the aid? “I am sure they used to be. The young generation, I don’t know. But for example, my parents’ generation of course and my generation of course,” one Parisian explained to Bennatan. WALNUT CREEK — The relief check for $10,000 was spent almost as soon as it was deposited, covering some of the bills that local ice cream shop San Francisco Creamery has racked up during a prolonged coronavirus pandemic. “If it had been another $10,000, exactly the same thing would happen,” said Terry Wong, the business’ owner, in an interview Thursday. The creamery is among six Walnut Creek restaurants and eateries to receive city-approved coronavirus relief grants. It’s the first round of a $1 million program that the City Council approved last month. More funding will be granted in the coming weeks for many of the other 73 bars and restaurants that have already applied for either $5,000 or $10,000 grants. “It’s first come, first served,” said Collette Hanna, the city’s economic development manager, in an interview. Qualifying businesses must have opened before July 2019, be independently owned (with fewer than six locations in the greater Bay Area) and owe no money to the city. Those applying must also prove that they earned 25% less revenue in the final three months of...
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Antonio Brown says he’s grateful to be back in the NFL, let alone preparing to play in the Super Bowl. A grandmother of 12 contracted COVID-19 in April and spent 20 days in the hospital at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. KTLA reports that Margarita Montañez was unable to see her family during this time, which included almost two weeks spent on a ventilator. On Thursday, Montañez tried to give a little back to the many medical staff, because she says she “appreciated the doctors and the nurses that helped me.” It took her five days, but the 73-year-old San Fernando Valley resident made 800 tamales and brought them to the staff. Cedars-Sinai nurse David Karther said the staff was “so grateful” for the tamales, adding that “They couldn’t have come at a better time.” Margarita’s daughter Cindy helped deliver the tamales and spoke with KLTA, telling them about how frightening it was to leave her mother with nurses at the ER back in April. “I didn’t know if I was ever going to see my mom again. But thanks to the Cedars-Sinai medical team, my mom is here today, and we are forever grateful for that.” Cindy went on to say that “People may not remember...
