If you’re running out of conversation starters for your family, friends or cat as you recover from turkey dinner, here’s one for you: Why are cranberry sauce labels upside-down? It’s a longtime mystery that popped up online again in 2021 when buyers noticed that the labels on jellied cranberry sauce are flipped. The rounded edge, which for most cans is on the bottom, is on the top for cans of Ocean Spray cranberry sauce. Ocean Spray told CNN Business the labeling process is strategic and intentional. Check out our must-buy plant-based cookbooks! Learn more Aside from the odd craisin, many of us only really entertain cranberries in jelly form on very specific days during the holiday season. Cranberries, however, can offer far more than the obligatory condiment, and so they should.  Cranberries are actually a distant cousin of the blueberry but are not nearly as widely eaten.  Due to their sourness, they are rarely eaten raw so hardly ever show up in berry mixes or fruit salads. However, they are very good for us and are rich in vitamins C, E, and K1 as well as copper and manganese.  They are high in antioxidants and are cited as being useful in treating UTIs.  Aside from that, they are pretty yummy. Beyond that, stuffing, salad, mashed potatoes and dinner rolls brought up the rear in terms of least favorite sides. The survey also found a stark divide when it comes to preferences on cranberry sauce, with 37% choosing homemade cranberry sauce against the 35% that prefer canned cranberry sauce.   More On WCCO.com: MN Weather: After An Inch Fell Saturday, More Snow Likely In Twin Cities On Monday Guthrie Audience Member’s Pre-Show Rant Delays Opening Night For ‘Christmas Carol’ Court To Hear $360K Child Support Case Against Tarvaris Jackson Estate Hennepin County Seeks Public’s Help Identifying Body Of Pregnant Woman
Check out our must-buy plant-based cookbooks! Learn more Loving cranberries is difficult because, for most of the year, they are an absentee partner. The elusive cranberry, be it in jellied form or sauce, usually only makes an appearance at the table for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. In more recent years, we have been introduced to the “craisin,” but that just isn’t the same thing at all. Nor is that occasional foray into cranberry juice for bladder infections. By and large, cranberries, like stuffing, ought to be around more often. Not only do these two things — cranberries and stuffing — seem to only sneak out during the holidays, but they also pair splendidly. For many, they are the superstars of the holiday plate. Then, like the leaves of autumn, they seem to just disappear. But, some of us aren’t ready to say goodbye. While we could certainly spend some time reflecting on the glory of a good stuffing, today we’ll be crooning over the cranberry, and hopefully, we’ll discover some ways to keep them around a bit longer,...
