He had asked Paltrow what her reaction to Close’s comments were during a game of “Plead the Fifth,” in which celebrity guests are asked a series of questions but can only “plead the fifth” for one of them. “Well, I guess I have to because I don’t know enough about it,” the GOOP founder responded. “So I plead the fifth.” The statement in question was made by Close, 74, during a 2020 interview with ABC News’ “Popcorn with Peter Travers.”...
Glenn Close. Steve Granitz/WireImage After the 2021 Oscars, many headlines spotlighted Glenn Close's record 8 losses. In an AP interview, Close was informed of one story and responded to the suggestion she's a loser. Close colorfully responded, in part: "I say, f--- them." Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Glenn Close does not mince words when it comes to people insinuating she's a "loser" for not nabbing an Oscar at the 93rd Academy Awards last month.  In an interview with The Associated Press, the legendary actress was told about a headline that the Los Angeles Times ran after the Oscars, highlighting her nominations record and losses — "After 8 Oscar losses, Glenn Close is now tied as the most nominated actor without a win" — and Emmy winner Sarah Paulson's negative reaction to it, defending Close. In response, Close said: "Who in that category is a loser? You're there, you're five people honored for the work that you've done by your peers. What's better than that?" Close said. "And I honestly feel that the press likes to have...

Who says you can’t win for losing?  Glenn Close made Oscars 2021 history Sunday — just not in the way the seasoned actor and eight-time Academy Award nominee probably expected to.  After losing Best Supporting Actress honors to “Minari” star Yuh-Jung Youn at the 93rd Academy Awards, Close, 74, became the most Oscar-nominated female actor with absolutely no wins.  For her polarizing performance (it also scored a Razzie nom) as “Mamaw” in “Hillbilly Elegy,” Close earned her a record-setting eighth nomination from the Academy.  Historical note: Her “most losses” ties her with legendary actor Peter O’ Toole, who was also nominated — and snubbed — for his big screen showings eight times. O’Toole did, however, score an honorary Oscar shortly before he died at 81 in 2013. Despite her loss this year, Close still won the night. How? Well, by doing “Da Butt,” of course.  When asked by comedian, actor and Oscars co-host Lil’ Rel Howery, 41, to play an Oscars-themed game of name-that-tune, Close immediately identified oldies twerk jam “Da Butt,” by Washington D.C. go-go music band Experience Unlimited.  “It was a...

Marcia Gay Harden's 2001 Oscar win was a joyous night for many -- but not for everyone. The actress, now 61, was a bit of a surprise nominee for her work in the film "Pollock" considering she was not nominated for other major awards like a Golden Globe or Screen Actors Guild Award. Even more surprising was her win in the best supporting actress category, especially considering she was up against several Hollywood heavyweights: Judi Dench, Frances McDormand, Julie Walters and Kate Hudson. In an interview with Vulture, Harden reflected on why her surprise win was so refreshing for showbiz. JUDI DENCH SAYS SHE SEES HER 'CATS' CHARACTERS AS TRANSGENDER: 'I KIND OF CALL IT 'TRANS-DEUTERONOMY' "It’s new blood. It just felt great. And by the way, I felt the girls were really happy for me as well," she said. "There was one I will not mention — but it wasn’t Kate — who seemingly wasn’t so happy." This week in Gold Digger, The Post’s analysis of the Oscars shuffle, we dive into one of the closest: Best Supporting Actress. 1. But most notably, in a departure from the Golden Globes, Youn and her co-star Steven Yeun were respectively nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actor — becoming the first Korean actors to ever be nominated at the Oscars. (Remember, the cast of “Parasite” was egregiously snubbed even though their movie was victorious.) While Yeun likely won’t win against Chadwick Boseman (“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”), Supporting Actress has no obvious shoo-ins. Youn has...

To get her hands on Oscar gold this year, Close will have to beat out fellow nominees Maria Bakalova (“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”), Olivia Colman (“The Father”), Amanda Seyfried (“Mank”) and Youn Yuh-jung (“Minari”).
