Michigan Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh credited the pre-game trash talk for inciting his team to beat their closest rivals, Ohio State, for the first time in 10 years.    Saturday's victory likely puts the Wolverines into the top four of the upcoming College Football Playoff rankings.  Meanwhile, Harbaugh revealed that the team was especially motivated in the 42-27 thrashing by some of the trash-talking that had occurred in the week prior to the game.  'There's definitely stuff people said that spurred us on. Sometimes people that are standing on third base think they hit a triple, but they didn't,' Harbaugh told the Columbus Dispatch.  Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, center left, shakes hands with Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, center right, after an NCAA college football game in Ann Arbor on Saturday Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, pictured, on the sideline in the second quarter of an NCAA college football game against Michigan in Ann Arbor on Saturday. Alabama tailback Brian Robinson Jr. has a pulled muscle that makes his status for the Southeastern Conference Championship Game against No. 1 Georgia uncertain. No. 4 Alabama’s coach Nick Saban said Sunday that Robinson sustained a “lower body pulled muscle” in Saturday’s four-overtime victory over Auburn. Robinson was holding his left leg on the ground after a 37-yard carry in the fourth quarter of the 24-22 Iron Bowl win. “We’ll just kind of see how he progresses during the course of the week and see where he’s at,” Saban said. “I can’t tell you any more than that right now.” Robinson didn’t return in the game. Trey Sanders took over in the backfield. Alabama was already down to three healthy scholarship tailbacks with injuries to Jase McClellan, Roydell Williams and freshman Camar Wheaton. Robinson easily leads the team in rushing with 1,016 yards and 14 touchdowns. Sanders has 50 carries for 221 yards and two TDs. Alabama has already moved several players from other positions to shore up the backfield in emergency roles. Defensive back Jalyn Armour-Davis missed the...
IT was snow holds barred for Sean Dyche's hardman reputation. But Dyche's dramatic appearance earned him new plaudits on social media - and even comparisons to a famous horror movie scene. One fan posted: "Something about this reminded me of Jack Nicholson from The Shining. Sean Dyche take a bow."  Another said: "Sean Dyche is the hardest bloke in football. PEP GUARDIOLA has given a tantalising hint that he may one day like to fill Gareth Southgate’s boots as England boss. Guardiola has long admitted the idea of becoming a national boss some time in the future does appeal. 1Pep Guardiola has given a tantalising hint that he may one day like to fill Gareth Southgate’s boots as England bossCredit: AFP However, there is no suggestion of him leaving Manchester City any time soon. Yet when that day does arrive, the Three Lions job would hold more appeal than most for the successful Etihad boss. Guardiola has two years left on his City deal. Meanwhile, Southgate has just signed an extension until 2024 as England gaffer. The 50-year-old Spaniard said: “Gareth is doing an incredible job and has just signed a new contract, so congratulations. “I’m not here to take a position from him. Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has to spend all offseason thinking about what the heck happened in Ann Arbor vs. Michigan on Saturday. For the first time in the Ryan Day era, the Ohio State Buckeyes have lost a conference game. This was the one they could not afford to drop, as they got pushed around all afternoon by Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines in The Game. With Ohio State previously dropping a home game to the Oregon Ducks in the non-conference, this latest defeat not only knocks the Buckeyes out of contention for the Big Ten, but they have no chance of making the College Football Playoff now. Day said at the podium afterwards that this loss will hurt for a while. Ryan Day says the loss to Michigan is "gonna leave a mark for a while.” — Griffin Strom (@GriffinStrom3) November 27, 2021 He also said this loss was a failure and that he will have to re-evaluate his coaching staff. Ryan Day said the Buckeyes will have to “take a real hard look” at why they couldn’t stop the run...
Jim Harbaugh was definitely feeling himself after Michigan upended Ohio State for the first time and didn’t hesitate to throw shade at Ryan Day. Make no mistake about it, Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh took his lumps to get to Saturday afternoon. He was 0-5 against rival Ohio State heading into the game, had a history of falling well short in big games, and seemingly was the butt of jokes around the college football world. So for him to take all of that and emerge with a 42-27 win over the Buckeyes that punches the Wolverines’ ticket to the Big Ten Championship Game in addition to putting them in prime position to make the College Football Playoff deserves plenty of respect. The head coach persevered to get his program to this moment in time — something he clearly doesn’t think Ohio State head coach Ryan Day comprehends. Talking to the media after the game, Harbaugh seemingly took dead aim at Day and the Buckeyes program by saying that “some people are born on third base and think they hit...

Thanksgiving Day football is a time-honored tradition that just feels different than any other time during the regular season. On Thursday, the NFL will feature three games on the holiday. The Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions will square off in the first game in a battle of NFC North foes. Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz is expecting his wife to go into labor with the couple’s second child any day now. Quinn Ewers has yet to see the field and Ohio State football fans have been worried he might leave but head coach Ryan Day gave a positive update on the QB. When Ohio State football fans saw Quinn Ewers reclassify for the 2021 recruiting cycle, thus joining the Buckeyes as the No. 1 recruit in this year’s class as opposed to 2022, the biggest question was how he’d fit into an already crowded quarterback room. As the season has worn on in Columbus, those questions have remained. Ewers has not traveled on several road games with the team and, as such, Buckeyes faithful have worried that the prized recruit could wind up entering the transfer portal. However, things may be taking a turn for the better. Speaking with the media on Tuesday, head coach Ryan Day spoke highly of Ewers’ early development. The freshman quarterback has been earning more reps in practices recently, partially due to Jack Miller’s ongoing and indefinite suspension. Day also noted that Ewers has been “making progress” and “looking more comfortable around the facility”.Quinn Ewers starting...

MACON, Ga. (AP) — An autopsy finds that a 15-year-old high school football player who died in July after collapsing at practice in Georgia was the victim of an “abnormal heart rhythm” and not heat-related illness. Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones tell The Telegraph of Macon that the autopsy by a Georgia Bureau of Investigation medical examiner found Joshua Ivory Jr. died July 26 of cardiac dysrhythmia, which triggered “sudden cardiac arrest.” Jones said Ivory suffered from an “abnormal heart rhythm that sent him into cardiac arrest.” The 15-year-old collapsed on the first day of fall football practice at Macon’s Southwest High School. Coaches called an ambulance after recognizing that Ivory was in distress, said Bibb County Athletic Director Barney Hester. Ivory died in a hospital emergency room. The Alabama-Tennessee series has been one-sided since Nick Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa, but don’t ask him if it still qualifies as a rivalry. The fourth-ranked Crimson Tide’s 14 wins in a row in what was traditionally a Third Saturday in October staple hasn’t changed the passion level entering Saturday night’s meeting. It’s still a meaningful rivalry to Saban, and to fans on either side. “You can say it however you want to say it, but it’s significant if you don’t have success in the game, because it’s significant to a lot of people,” the Tide coach said. “And whatever happened in the last however many years will have no impact on this game at all. The only thing that matters is what happens now. “For now, this week, it’s a rivalry game to me and I hope it is to everybody in our organization.” Alabama (6-1, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) is a 24.5-point favorite but the Volunteers (4-3, 2-2) have enjoyed a resurgence in coach Josh Heupel’s first season. Tennessee had a two-game winning streak snapped with a 31-26 loss...
Indiana spent the last year pointing to this week’s Ohio State game as a measuring stick. The Hoosiers thought a win over the fifth-ranked Buckeyes would finally cement the program’s steady ascension and might even lead to a Big Ten championship game appearance. Instead, after six games, they’re entering Saturday’s showdown with four losses and hopes of achieving a more modest milestone — ending the nation’s longest active losing streak against one team. “We’re swinging hard,” Hoosiers coach Tom Allen said. “Yeah, it’s a bit hard, there’s no doubt about it. Not what any of us expected or wanted. What are you going to do? That’s where you keep on swinging.” The Hoosiers certainly have taken some big blows this season. All four losses came against teams currently ranked in the top 11 and they still have two more on the card, Saturday against the surging Buckeyes and Nov. 6 at No. 6 Michigan. The Hoosiers need to win four of their final six to become bowl eligible, leaving no margin for error and they may have to do...

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has an idea that could revolutionize college football. The best college football coaches are innovative and willing to think outside the box. They want to find new ways to improve circumstances and situations and don’t generally sit around waiting for change, they make it happen. Ryan Day is one heck of a football coach and it’s unsurprising that he’d support something that could help better protect players. According to Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors, if given the opportunity, Day would voice his support for doing away with kickoffs in college football. Instead of having the game start with a kickoff, it would start with the offense having the ball at a predetermined spot on the field. In this case, that predetermined spot would be the 25-yard line. On his weekly radio show, Ryan Day said he would vote to do away with kickoffs and have offenses start at the 25-yard line every time for player safety reasons, though he still thinks onside kicks should be allowed. — Dan Hope (@Dan_Hope) October 14, 2021 ...
