Angela Lee is poised to return and keep the atomweight championship around her waist. Trash talk is a common aspect of combat sports, regardless of whether it is boxing, mixed martial arts, wrestling, or anything else. Just look to individuals like Jake Paul and Conor McGregor as two people that shine in that area. But ONE Championship atomweight champ, Angela Lee, will not partake in those activities heading into her return to the cage. “I think there’s huge mutual respect among us, I just appreciate the respect,” Lee said as she made the media rounds before her return to fighting. “I think that you don’t need to trash talk your opponent, I don’t think that’s who they are and that’s not who I am. We don’t need to put on a show for the world and create some kind of drama that’s not there.” Angela Lee is coming back to defend her title against a new contenderLee is expected to return to action in early 2022. Her last fight was a victory over Jingnan Xiong in October 2019. She then...
PITTSBURG — For three decades the frustration mounted. Despite having one of the best football programs among Bay Area high schools, not a single player on Pittsburg’s roster of 70 strong was within a decade of being born when the Pirates last won a North Coast Section title. That streak came to a screeching halt Friday night. With backup quarterback Christian Aguilar directing the offense, the Pirates scored touchdowns in all four quarters and beat Clayton Valley Charter 28-14 for the Division I crown. “They finally got the playoff system right,” Pittsburg coach Victor Galli said. “It’s awesome. It’s a great feeling.” Two years ago the NCS took its Open Division and Division I and merged them for the playoffs. The format made its debut this season because the pandemic prevented playoffs from being held last year. PITTSBURG, CA – NOVEMBER 26: Pittsburg quarterback Christian Aguilar (2) looks to pass against Clayton Valley in the fourth quarter of a North Coast Section Division I final in Pittsburg, Calif., on Friday, Nov. 26, 2021. Which films have won Best Picture at the Golden Globes and Oscars? Biggest Boomtowns in Every State Bryson DeChambeau's first crack at the Professional Long Drivers of America World Championships came to an end Friday when the hulking PGA Tour star was eliminated on the final day of the competition after making it to the final eight. DeChambeau transitioned into the event straight off a successful 2-0-1 showing at the Ryder Cup and made it through several preliminary rounds of the competition in Mesquite, Nevada. © Provided by CBS Sports A crowd roared as he squared off with the world's longest bombers in Friday's finale. The moment seemed made for DeChambeau, who thrived at the Ryder Cup on the adulation of galleries imploring him to attempt audacious drives. At one point Friday, he pumped his fist in celebration after cranking one more than 400 yards. On Day 1, he surpassed the 400-yard mark four times, and he continued blasting away throughout the week, even while battling strong headwinds at times. DeChambeau led the PGA Tour with a 323.7-yard driving...
MONTEREY, Calif. (AP) — Alex Palou strolled confidently through the Laguna Seca paddock, his focus firmly honed on closing out his first IndyCar championship. There are mathematical possibilities that could hand the 24-year-old Spaniard the title on Sunday during the penultimate race of the season. But he’s not been able to shake Pato O’Ward all season, and Scott Dixon and Josef Newgarden remain viable contenders. As far as O’Ward is concerned, the pressure is on Palou over the final two weeks of the season. Palou took a 25-point lead in the standings with his third win of the season last weekend, with only the Laguna Seca road course and next week’s finale on the street course in Long Beach remaining. “I don’t know if we’re a championship team yet, we haven’t been the guys to beat all year,” O’Ward said ahead of Friday’s practice. “Ganassi is the team to beat, they have three cars in the top five, and to me this is their championship to lose.” Indeed, Palou leads six-time and reigning champion Dixon, as...

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Rain and storms predicted for the Akron area on Thursday has caused the Ohio High School Athletic Association to delay the start of the baseball state tournament until Friday. The scheduled start times and order of games all remain the same, but the state tournament will shift to a Friday-Saturday-Sunday event. Due to pitch count limitations in baseball, the OHSAA always wants to keep both semifinal games of each division on the same day so that both finalists played their semifinal games on the same day. The state tournament is hosted at Canal Park, the home of the Cleveland Indians’ AA affiliate Akron RubberDucks. SAN JOSE — As the Let Them Play movement was just starting its fight this winter for kids across California, Archbishop Mitty girls soccer coach JT Hanley wasn’t sure it would end the way it did. “I was less than 50-50 that we would even kick a ball this year,” Hanley said this week. “The fact that we got to get back on the field and play was a real blessing. There’s a lot of terms that get thrown around, but it really was.” Friday, with the Central Coast Section Open Division championship at stake, a 5-foot-10 budding superstar with long strides and cannon-like strikes kicked the ball for Mitty as thunderously as she has all spring. Freshman Jordan Geis scored a goal in the first half and two in the second as the Monarchs, playing on the road, defeated Leigh 3-1 to claim their fourth consecutive Open Division title. “Hat trick in the CCS as a freshman, that’s pretty crazy,” Mitty’s UC Davis-bound star Emma Vane said. “Props to you, Jordan.” Tied 1-1 at...
Britain Hart punches Paige van Zant. Photo by Alex Menendez/Getty Images Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship returns with another show Friday, March 19. Insider previously dubbed BKFC "the bloodiest show in town," and it is yet to disappoint. BKFC boss David Feldman said there's no secrets about the firm's growth — it's all about the bloody bouts. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Running a combat sports business has been tough during the coronavirus pandemic, but the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship has never been more popular, boss David Feldman told Insider. BKFC held "KnuckleMania" on February 5, its first event of the year, which featured the bare knuckle debutante and former UFC star Paige VanZant in a featherweight match against Britain Hart. VanZant lost a competitive match but it was Hart who attracted headlines throughout the world because of a promo she cut after the win, telling fans she's not a person — she's a feeling. Everybody, she said, is going to feel that feeling. Fast forward a month and Feldman's firm is back for its second event...
An Oklahoma high school girls basketball team that was subjected to a racist rant from a broadcaster won the 6A state championship on Saturday. Norman High School defeated Bixby High School, 49-37, to capture its second consecutive state championship. The team won the title in 2019 and was not able to finish off their season last year because of the coronavirus pandemic. The team finished the season 19-0. The team was thrust into the national spotlight on Friday after broadcaster Matt Rowan was caught on a hot mic delivering a racist rant at the team after they knelt during the national anthem. Rowan apparently didn’t realize his mic was on. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM Those listening in on the NFHS Network stream could hear Rowan as he used harsh language and a racial epithet directed at the Norman players that decided to kneel. "They're kneeling? F--- them," Rowan can be heard saying. "I hope Norman gets their ass kicked ... F---ing [epithet]." He continued: "I hope Norman gets their ass kicked. F--- them. I hope they...

A season that began with typically low outside expectations for San Jose State’s football team has nearly reached the mountaintop. Picked 10th in a poll by the website Mountain West Wire just before the rebooted season began in late October, San Jose Stare has earned a date with the team chosen first. The Spartans will play Boise State in the Mountain West championship game next Saturday because they found a way to keep their magical season going Friday night after an un-Spartan-like — at least in 2020 — first half against Nevada. Through 30 minutes at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas — San Jose State’s temporary home because of Santa Clara County coronavirus restrictions — the undefeated Spartans looked as if the grueling nature of a season filled with endless challenges had finally set in. What followed in their 30-20 victory was a testament to the team’s identity. San Jose State (6-0) outscored Nevada 23-0 in the second half. The Spartans erased a 13-point deficit, their largest of the season, with sudden recharges to...

COLUMBUS – The upcoming Ohio High School Athletic Association football state championships will be hosted by Fortress Obetz, a multi-purpose sports complex located in Obetz on the southeast side of Columbus. Fortress Obetz has an 8,000-seat grandstand that will be set up to socially distance 1,500 total fans.
