Sunbeam Products is recalling nearly 1 million units of its Crock-Pot 6-Quart Quick Cooker due to lid problems that can cause hot food or liquids to be ejected and cause serious injury. The Consumer Product Safety Commission said it had reports of 99 injuries, ranging from first to third degree burns, due to the unit’s lid improperly dislodging. The recall affects more than 914,000 units in the United States and more than 28,000 in Canada. The devices were sold at Walmart, Target, and other retailers from July 2017 through this month. The recall covers model number SCCPPC600-V1, which is displayed on a label on the bottom of the unit. The affected units have date codes K196JN through K365JN and L001JN through L273JN; the date code is engraved on one of the pins of the electrical plug and on the bottom of the base. The CPSC said owners of the units should “immediately stop using” them as pressure cookers and should call the Crock-Pot manufacturer at 800-323-9519, 9 am to 5 pm ET, Monday through Friday....
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — As millions of Americans start to prepare Thanksgiving side dishes ahead of the holiday, a recall has been issued for more than 914,000 Crock-Pot multi-cookers because their lids can suddenly detach while in pressure cooker mode. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says about 914,430 Crock-Pot 6-quart express multi-cookers — plus 28,330 units sold in Canada — are being recalled because they can pressurize when the lid is not fully locked. (credit: Consumer Product Safety Commission) The recalled units have model number SCCPPC600-V1, which is shown on a label on the bottom of the multi-cookers, and were manufactured between July 1, 2017 and Oct. 1, 2018. They were sold by Walmart, Target, Amazon and other retailers between July 2017 and November 2020 for between $70 to $100. The lids on these recalled appliances can suddenly detach while they are in use, posing a burn risk from hot foods and liquids that may be ejected. The multi-cookers can still be used for slow cooking and sauteing, according to the CPSC. The multi-cooker’s manufacturer, Sunbeam Products, has been notified...
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Crock-Pot is recalling nearly 1 million pressure cookers due to a lid malfunction that has reportedly left almost 100 users with burns. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday that Crock-Pot has issued a recall on its 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers, with model number SCCPPC600-V1. The recalled cookers were manufactured between July 1, 2017, and October 1, 2018. They have the date codes K196JN through K365JN and L001JN through L273JN. Officials say the date codes can be found one of the prongs of the electrical plug and on the bottom of the base. The recall stems from an issue with the lid, as the pressure cooker function will operate on these cookers when the lid is not fully closed. This malfunction can cause the lid to detach, shooting out steaming-hot liquids and foods. The manufacturer, Sunbeam products, has received 99 reports of burns, some as severe as third-degree. About 914,430 of these multi-cookers were sold in North America, with many purchased at retailers such as Target, Walmart and Amazon. They retailed...
Sunbeam Products is recalling nearly one million Crock-Pots after numerous reports of dangerous burns. The company is recalling its Crock-Pot 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers, which were sold at major retailers including Wal-Mart, Target, and Amazon from July 2017 until earlier this month. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, Sunbeam’s crockpots can start pressurizing before the lid is fully locked in place. The crock pot’s lid can then detach while cooking, putting consumers at risk of burns from hot food and liquid “ejecting” from the pressure cooker. Sunbeam has received 119 reports of detaching lids, and 99 reports of burns due to the malfunction. The CPSC recommends owners of the crockpots “immediately stop” using the device in its “pressure cooker” mode, although other functions such as slow cooking and sautéing remain safe. The defective crock pots have date codes between K196JN and K365JN, as well as between L001JN and L273JN. Crock-Pot owners can find this code engraved on a prong in the electrical plug at the base of the device. Crock-Pot is offering customers free replacement lids, and owners...
