ARLINGTON, Texas (CBSDFW.COM/AP) – Cowboys kicker Greg Zuerlein kicked a 45-yard field goal in the final 20 seconds of regulation to tie the game at 33, but that was as close as the Cowboys could get to victory. The Cowboys won the toss in overtime, but went three and out and punted the ball to the Raiders. A pass interference call on Anthony Brown on 3rd and 18 gave the Raiders a first down on the Cowboys 24 yard line. Daniel Carlson then kicked a 29-yard field goal to give the Raiders the 36-33 win. The Cowboys fell to 7-4 and have lost three out of their last four games. The franchise is now 0-3 in overtime games on Thanksgiving. The Raiders, who won their first game in more than a month, are now 6-5. More to come. (© Copyright 2021 CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved. The Associated Press contributed to this report.)
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders have one victory between them in November and one more chance do something about it before the playoff push time also known as December. Just so happens they’re playing each other on Thanksgiving. So forget about Dallas receiver Amari Cooper playing his former team for the first time Thursday — a positive COVID-19 test and his vaccination status took care of that. And interim coach Rich Bisaccia probably won’t spend much time thinking about his return to the place he left to join the Raiders three years ago. The NFC East-leading Cowboys (7-3) want to bounce back at home coming off a poor offensive showing, just as they did a week and a half ago against Atlanta. The Raiders (5-5) need to end a three-game losing streak that cost them first place in the AFC West. “I don’t know the right wording for it, but there’s definitely a feeling of, ‘Enough is enough. We’ve got to win,’” Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr said. “It’s a big game because it’s...
Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys. Mandatory Credit: Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports The Dallas Cowboys looked hapless for the second time in three weeks and, even though they’re still 8-3, the team needs these players to get healthy now. In what was supposed to be the marquee game of Week 11, the Dallas Cowboys forgot to do their part against the Kansas City Chiefs. Dak Prescott played one of his worst games in recent memory, the rest of the offense followed suit and, even though the defense was good, it didn’t matter as they lost, 19-9. Not all is lost for Dallas as they move to 7-3 on the season and remain in firm control of the NFC East at this point. However, this team is becoming increasingly banged up and the cracks that fact is causing are starting to show, even if it wasn’t the sole cause of the loss on Sunday. Put simply, the Cowboys need to get healthy but, in particular, they could really use these three players back in the lineup.Cowboys: 3 injured players who Dallas needs back...
Tom Brady looks like the favorite to win the NFL MVP award after Week 9, and he was on a bye week. If Week 9 of the 2021 NFL season proved anything, it is that there is no favorite to win the Super Bowl. It has all the making of a wide open competition, which is good news for fans looking for interesting football for the rest of the campaign. But what about the NFL Most Valuable Player race? Based off what went down throughout Sunday, the favorite to win the MVP was someone who did not even play this week. Of course, we are talking about 44-year-old quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tom Brady. That is due to the performances of fellow MVP candidates Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford and Josh Allen.Tom Brady may be favorite to win his fourth NFL MVP awardPrescott was returning from a calf injury suffered on the final play of the Dallas Cowboys’ matchup against the New England Patriots in Week 6. The Denver Broncos entered the season with mild expectations and seemed like a team that would have a fairly decent season, but they didn’t appear to be the type of team that could crush a potential Super Bowl contender. The Dallas Cowboys were starting to look like a team that could be a potential championship bunch, but they didn’t look that way Sunday as they lost to the Broncos. Dallas may have only lost by a couple touchdowns as the final score ended up being 30-16, but this game felt considerably more lopsided than the final score will ever show. So, who should be blamed for this mess?3 Dallas Cowboys who should receive some blame for falling short against the Denver Broncos3. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones declined to say if he believed former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden should’ve lost his job in the wake of a bombshell report exposing racist, misogynistic and homophobic comments he made in old emails, adding that those in their positions should always be "accountable."  Jones addressed Gruden’s resignation during his weekly radio appearance with KRLD. JON GRUDEN’S SON WILL REMAIN WITH RAIDERS’ COACHING STAFF FOLLOWING RESIGNATION: REPORT  "I know these people. I know everybody you’ve been reading about," Jones said, via USA Today. Skip Bayless trolled LeBron James after the Ohio State football team’s home loss to Oregon. Skip Bayless made sure he knew LeBron James‘ two favorite football teams lost this weekend. Though they both love America’s Disappointment known as the Dallas Cowboys with a fiery passion, Bayless went out of his way to troll the Los Angeles Lakers superstar after his home state’s Ohio State Buckeyes fell to the Oregon Ducks. Ohio State has to win out if the Buckeyes want to reach the College Football Playoff. At least the Cowboys covered the spread in Week 1. In a rivalry as old as time itself, Bayless shows no mercy on what was a rough weekend for James. Sorry, Bron. DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — High school football practices are underway on dozens of North Texas campuses — including for the Cowboys at Dallas’ Carter High. “It feels good,” that’s how Carter High wide receiver Datarian Borns described the summer practices. “This year is different. It’s a lot different, it’s more intense, we got more on the line…we’ve got to go get it.” READ MORE: Dallas Police Trying To ID Lumber Thief Caught On Tape At Construction Site What makes things different for the Cowboys football team is that Carter is returning 17 starters from last year. It was a story Randy Savvy had heard countless times before: Another Black man had been killed in Compton. Hearts and lives were shattered. A community grieved. In early 2020, Savvy, born Randall Hook, learned that a friend’s boyfriend was fatally wounded by gunfire on his way to a store. Savvy, 31, understood her grief. He’s lost loved ones to gang violence too. He wrote “Colorblind,” his first single, in response. × “That song came from a really inspired place of thinking about the life that we live in inner cities, how we lose lives and how it just seems to be a normal way of life in our culture,” said Savvy in a phone interview. “It’s a toxic, tragic cycle: People die. There’s a little celebration to honor their life. Then the next person dies and the same thing happens. The next person dies and the same thing... “It’s really saddening to me.” In 2020, homicides in Los Angeles County rose by 20%, to the highest level in a decade. Much of the violence occurred in South...

At 4-9 this season entering Week 15 against the San Francisco 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys are playing out the remainder of a lost season. The poster boy for the team’s struggles is running back Ezekiel Elliott, who is averaging just 3.9 yards per carry so far this season. In line with the drop-off from the Cowboys’ offensive line over time, due to injuries, retirement, etc. Elliott has struggled. The Dallas Cowboys’ star quarterback provided an update on the ankle injury that ended his season back in October. The first month of the Dallas Cowboys‘ season was filled with unideal situations. The defense was among the worst in the league and the offensive line was getting pummeled with injuries. Yet there was once consistent piece that step up when the Cowboys were own, and that was quarterback Dak Prescott. Unfortunately, the knight in shining armor fell in Week 5 against the New York Giants, as he suffered a compound fracture of his right ankle, forcing him to get carted off the field and sidelined for the remainder of the season. On Friday, Prescott was spotted at the Cowboys’ facility, standing on the sidelines to observe practice and even sharing a feel-good moment with draft-mate and starting running back Ezekiel Elliott. During his appearance, Prescott released a statement about his recovery, saying he’s feeling better and looking forward to suiting up for the Cowboys in the near future. ARLINGTON, Texas – Both starting offensive tackles were lost to injury on their first drive of the game, Ezekiel Elliott lost another fumble and there were several questionable coaching decisions for the Dallas Cowboys when they could have taken over the NFC East lead. Coach Mike McCarthy’s first season in Big D isn’t a total loss yet, but the Cowboys missed a chance to take some significant momentum into December after a 41-16 division loss to Washington on Thanksgiving Day. Things didn't really get out of hand until the Cowboys (3-8), then down only four points, failed to convert on a fake punt on fourth-and-10 from their 24 early in the fourth quarter. Washington scored on the next play. “You won’t get anywhere if you’re thinking about negatives all the time,” McCarthy said when trying to defend that call. “You can never covert them obviously if you don’t call them and if you don’t believe in them. So I clearly understood the situation when it was called.” Washington later added two touchdowns in a span of 8 seconds, including defensive...
The Cowboys are turning to their fourth starting quarterback of the 2020 season as Garrett Gilbert will be under center. Dallas has been in quarterback purgatory ever since the loss of Dak Prescott. The Cowboys appeared to have a solid backup plan in Andy Dalton, but the veteran missed last week due to being in the concussion protocol. This week, Dalton is on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Replacing Dalton in Week 8 was rookie Ben DiNucci. However, DiNucci wasn’t that great, going 21-of-40 for 180 yards with two lost fumbles. The Cowboys are facing a very tough Steelers defense this week, and coach Mike McCarthy said of a quarterback change: “with the opponent that we’re playing we need some more experience at that position.” McCarthy let Gilbert and Cooper Rush battle it out in camp this week to earn a starting job, and Gilbert won. But Gilbert is far from a household name, so you’re probably wondering just who he is. MORE: Cowboys QB depth chart Who is Garrett Gilbert? Gilbert is a quarterback with limited NFL experience. ARLINGTON, Texas — Kyler Murray accounted for three touchdowns in his first game back home as a pro, Ezekiel Elliott set up the first two Arizona TDs with fumbles and the Cardinals beat the Dallas Cowboys 38-10 on Monday night. The speedy quarterback who won three high school championships and a Big 12 title at the home of the Cowboys improved to 7-0 as a starter at AT&T Stadium, throwing for two scores despite a rough start through the air and rushing for 74 yards and a TD. It was the “Monday Night Football” debut for Murray, a star in high school football-obsessed Texas while playing in the Dallas suburbs, and Kliff Kingsbury, who also had a happy first trip to his native Texas as an NFL coach. Fired after six seasons at Texas Tech in 2018 without any winning records in Big 12 games, Kingsbury was hired by Arizona soon after and has the Cardinals (4-2) tied for second place in the tough NFC West. The Falcons are off to a rough start to the 2020 season after yet another heartbreaking loss. Atlanta shocked everyone in Week 2 when the Falcons blew a 39-24 lead in the final eight minutes against the Cowboys. In fact, the Falcons at one point, according to ESPN’s Gamecast, had a 99.9% chance of winning that game at one point. Several Dak Prescott touchdowns and a blown onside kick later and, well, you probably know the rest. The Falcons found themselves in a similar spot in Week 3 against the Bears. Chicago entered the fourth quarter trailing 26-10. Things had gotten so bad for the Bears, they benched starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky in favor of Nick Foles. With Foles under center, the Bears led a comeback charge and scored 20 unanswered points in the fourth quarter. ESPN’s Gamecast had the Falcons with a 99.6% win probability at one point in the game, meaning the Falcons blew back-to-back games where they had at least a 99% chance of winning. The Falcons had a 99.9% win probability against the Cowboys and lost....

Aldon Smith has impressed Cowboys teammates, including Tyron Smith, who doesn’t think he’s lost a step Most players who were out of the game for five years would accept the end of their careers. The ones who didn’t probably wouldn’t have the ability to pick up where they left off with anyways. Neither is the case for the Cowboys Aldon Smith. After a five-year absence from the NFL stemming from a string of substance abuse and off-the-field troubles, Smith is making a big impression at Cowboys training camp. All-Pro offensive tackle Tyron Smith called the other Smith a “heck of a player,” according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. “It doesn’t look like he’s lost a step at all. Still the same guy. Still has the talent. Still has the work ethic. He brings it every day,” Smith said. “It’s kinda difficult to describe him because you never know what (move) he’s gonna bring to you.”If Aldon Smith hasn’t “lost a step,” he could be an incredible comeback story for the Cowboys. There’s a remarkable lack of wear on Smith’s body,...
