Giannis is famously known as the "Greek Freak." Their brother Alex is also a professional basketball player."When I first heard the story, it was very clear that we had an incredibly modern tale of triumph over adversity. And what made it modern is that it's a universal story. It's a universal story family. It's a story of faith," said Arash Amel, writer. The film follows the family after Charles Antetokounmpo and his wife Vera (Veronica) emigrate from Nigeria to Greece, showing their efforts to provide for their family under the threat of deportation and secure Greek citizenship through a flawed immigration system that "blocked them at every turn," according to the film's synopsis."Everybody talks about us, about me, Thanasis, Kostas, and Alex, and Francis, but they always leave out our parents you...

A local fisherman in Cambodia has captured a true river monster that scientists believe is the world's largest freshwater fish.  Moul Thun, 42, hooked a massive stingray that weighs 661 pounds and measures 13-feet-long, breaking the previous record of a catfish, discovered in Thailand in 2005, which clocked in at 646 pounds. The stingray, nicknamed 'Boramy' or 'full moon' in the Khmer language, was snagged in the Mekong River that is famous for hosting various species of large fish. A team of scientists from the Wonders of Mekong research project helped tag, measure and weigh the ray before it was released back into the river. Given the option to be physically sucked into a TV show, you might choose something warm and fuzzy like “Friends” or “Ted Lasso.” What you probably wouldn’t want to enter is Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” with its child experiments, gruesome monsters and (spoiler alert for the current season) people being levitated and twisted around like broken dolls. Nevertheless, that option now exists, thanks to “Stranger Things: The Experience,” an in-person journey through the popular series’ creepy universe at an old military facility in San Francisco. Developed by Netflix and the show’s creators, the one-hour campaign starts visitors off at the Hawkins National Laboratory, a portal to the baffling “Upside Down” dimension. There they must navigate their way through the installation and collaborate with their fellow adventurers to save the town, while getting prerecorded help from actual protagonists like Eleven. It’s part escape room and part special-effects display — those who are easily shocked should know the disgustingly botanical Demogorgons are stalking the facility. And because this is essentially a show about ’80s kids, the experience exits through a gift shop stocked...

She's best known for her role of Siobhan 'Shiv' Roy in dark-comedy series Succession. But Sarah Snook has revealed that she almost didn't play the role, originally turning down the offer when she realised that she would be the only woman in the cast.  Admitting that she 'didn't want to become a prop' amongst all the men, the actress explained that both in the show and real life there are themes of sexism, noting: 'There is so much sexism and so much misogyny against you as a woman'. Doubts: Sarah Snook, 34, has revealed that she originally turned down the iconic role of Shiv in Succession over fears of being 'sidelined' Talking with Variety, Sarah explained that it took the show coming to her two times before she finally accepted the role, as she was worried about being sidelined as an actress. PROSTITUTION could thrive in the metaverse and could allow fantasies that aren't safe or even legal in real life. That's according to a porn producer and journalist who explained the concept to Bustle. 1Sex in the metaverse could become a thriving industry, according to expertsCredit: Getty Noelle Perdue told the outlet: "Instead of doing custom content, people will create custom experiences." She added: "Virtual reality opens up so many exciting possibilities for exploring the more surreal elements of fetish and kink. "There are a lot of fetishes that are not possible to recreate in real life, like a giantess fetish, or hypnotism, or more fantastical, niche desires. There is special providence in recalling the moment when meeting someone means a life is forever changed. Marcus and Frank’s lifelong friendship is crafted from specific trauma — both sixth graders sit in their middle school parking lot waiting for parents to pick them up long after their last peer has gone home. This daily ritual gives both a reason to bond, and an immediate connection is formed. For Marcus and Frank, a lifetime of triumphs and heartaches await, built from the moment when a special handshake was the most important thing in their lives. City Lights Theater Company’s world premiere production of “Waiting for Next” works best when illuminating the universal truths of its subjects. There are many moments that feel supremely sincere, touchstones of delight and destruction. Yet at other times, the humor pushes too far in the mugging direction, sacrificing honest interactions of the characters for something less authentic and satisfying. Director Leslie Martinson’s steady hand crafts a beautifully paced account, moving the action cleanly within the gratifying, metaphoric transitions that double as critical parts of the...

A winner takes all battle between a fisherman and a four metre crocodile has been captured on an extraordinary video.  The fight between man and beast over who gets to eat a metre long barramundi looks like a movie, but it's real and happened in the Northern Territory.  And the craziest part of all is the fisherman man who walks right up to the crocodile to retrieve his hat, risking life and limb in front of a determined monster.    It starts with a crocodile in the water at Cahills Crossing in Kakadu who suddenly sees a barra caught on a line. The croc thinks 'Ah, lunch', but then is surprised to see the barra being dragged towards the humans at the side of the crossing.  A man is pictured a metre away from crocodile in the Northern Territory, getting his hat back The fisherman on the other end of the line does not do what most people would in this situation - cut the line and let the crocodile have his lunch.  Instead he redoubles his efforts to reel...

(CNN)At the center of "Pachinko," the Apple TV+ adaptation of Min Jin Lee's epic novel, is a character named Sunja -- a woman born in Japanese-occupied Korea who leaves her homeland for the imperial country in the early 20th century. It's a sweeping tale of immigrant resilience, of identity and belonging, of historical trauma that echoes through generations. But though its themes are universal, "Pachinko" is rooted in a specific history, a critical chapter of which is at risk of vanishing. That reality makes the final minutes of the season especially remarkable. The eight-episode season, which chronicles how Japanese colonialism shapes the lives of Sunja and her descendants, ends with documentary footage of real-life Sunjas -- Korean women who moved to Japan between 1910 and 1945 and remained there after World War II. The resulting interviews with these first-generation women offer a glimpse into that period not found in history books."This was a group of people whose stories weren't considered important enough to record or tape," showrunner Soo Hugh recently told CNN. "There's not that much photographic evidence, especially from that first...

All morning Johnny Depp watched proceedings from his seat in court, sometimes smiling, sometimes frowning in concentration, always chewing gum. His mad professor hair had been smoothed into a ponytail and he wore a dark three-piece suit, a black shirt and a patterned tie.  His earrings and the crust of chunky rings on the fingers of both hands were the only silvery hint of his picaresque life beyond the courtroom walls – but the message here was clear. Johnny was ready to testify. Gum gone, he took the stand after lunch and at first faltered and seemed terribly disjointed, struggling to get his thoughts in order. It was painful to watch. Johnny Depp testified at Fairfax County Circuit Courthouse today in his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard Depp told the jury that his only goal was the truth – 'I am obsessed with the truth' –and that he had waited for six years for this opportunity to clear his name. A lonely Illinois woman named Kathy was scammed out of $92,000 from her life savings by a man she met on a 50+ dating site - an increasingly common story after many turned to dating websites to fight isolation during the COVID pandemic. By Mark Kennedy | Associated Press This Easter, Mark Wahlberg is offering us a gift as sweet as a box of Peeps or a chocolate rabbit — and just as nutritious. “Father Stu” is a loving biopic of a one-time real-life hell-raising, blue-collar hustler who somehow becomes a white-collared Roman Catholic priest. So why is it ultimately as hollow as that chocolate bunny? You can instantly see why Wahlberg — the star, executive producer and financier — was attracted. “Father Stu” is right in his wheelhouse, from his character’s love of amateur boxing to his meathead humor. And as an ardent Catholic, this is his Hollywood message film flex, his “The Passion of the Christ.” He even brought Mel Gibson along. But Wahlberg is simply miscast, out of his depth, and the overly long, poorly edited “Father Stu” never finds its rhythm. Good at humor, sweet with regret but the film ironically ends up short when it comes to the most important part: handling faith itself. The film is based on the extraordinary life of the real Stuart Long and...

Daniel Brophy’s family members have awaited justice for more than three years since he was gunned down while filling water and ice buckets in the kitchen of the now-defunct Oregon Culinary Institute in June 2018. Brophy’s wife, 71, a romance novelist who wrote an essay titled “How to Murder Your Husband” in 2011, has waited in jail. The COVID-19 pandemic is largely to blame for the gap between Nancy Crampton Brophy’s 2018 arrest on suspicion of murdering her husband of 27 years and her murder trial, which is scheduled to begin Monday. Prosecutors say Crampton Brophy’s lawyers have used the pandemic in a number of attempts to wriggle out of the consequences of her alleged crime, from a motion to let her await trial in a guest house so she wouldn’t catch COVID in jail to another asking a judge to delay the trial on the grounds that older jurors more likely to view the defendant in a favorable light would likely skip jury duty for fears of catching the disease. Now, Crampton Brophy will finally be forced to answer...

A group of British nerds claim to have created a mind-blowing invisibility shield to "surprise friends" and "avoid enemies". 2Like magicCredit: Invisibility Shield Co The shield is essentially a flat panel that magically hides whoever ducks behind it. Even more impressive is the fact the device doesn't need any power. It cleverly works by deflecting light around people using a "precision engineered lens array", creators Invisibility Shield Co say. One of “Grey’s Anatomy’s” best known writers has been placed on administrative leave over concerns that she fabricated elements of her personal life, including a bout with bone cancer, an abortion and sexual harassment, that she wove into plots for the show and described in essays she wrote for major publications. Certainly, the long-running ABC medical drama is known for taking real-life events and spinning them into fictional storylines, as the industry website The Ankler noted while reporting on the strange case of Elisabeth Finch. But Finch, who joined the “Grey’s Anatomy” writing room in 2014, may have gone too far in offering up ideas to her colleagues, including to the show’s creator Shonda Rimes, The Ankler said. Sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that Disney’s human resources and legal departments are conducting an internal investigation to determine the accuracy of some of Finch’s troubling stories. Multiple sources told the The Ankler that there are serious concerns within Shondaland and Disney that some parts of Finch’s personal story, which she shared with colleagues and the media, were made up. Espionage, kidnappings and celebrity parties. The life of American model-turned-spy Aline Griffith, Countess of Romanones, already reads like the plot of a Hollywood thriller. Now the late socialite spy, who died in 2017 aged 94, could soon have her remarkable story brought to the big screen.  Speaking to Hola!, author Larry Loftis explained he is in talks with two separate parties about adapting his book, The Princess Spy, although he admits such projects are expensive and difficult to get over the finish line.  Griffith, who was friends with Jackie Kennedy and married to a Spanish Count, was the author of several books full of tales of her escapades. By her own account she tracked down Nazi art, was kidnapped outside a country club and shot a man at point-blank range, although she claimed she never knew if she killed him.  The books were bestsellers and gripped readers and reviewers at the time they were released. But the Countess long faced accusations that her accounts were heavily embellished, if not entirely fabricated.    Society spy: Espionage, kidnappings and celebrity parties. The life of American...
Saturday Night Live opened with a group of TikTok stars consulting with President Joe Biden and White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on how the administration should handle Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. “This week as the war in Ukraine intensified, access to Facebook and Instagram in the country were shut off, leaving only one source of information: TikTok,” a narrator said. “So on Thursday, the White House responded by holding a national security briefing with some of the nation’s top TikTok creators.” Biden, portrayed by James Austin Johnson, began by thanking the group of six guests for “answering your nation’s call during a time of need.” He later added, “I also want to thank my press secretary, Jen Psaki, for having the vision to set this up.” “I suggested it as a joke and then it actually happened,” Kate McKinnon‘s Psaki replied. The show took a couple cracks at Biden being unfamiliar with technology, before the pair turned their attention to the TikTok stars’ thoughts on Ukraine. First off was a parody of AnnaLynne McCord who, in real life, released a video of her imagining herself as Vladimir...
