Federal prosecutors have charged Zoom executive Zinjian Jin over his alleged efforts to restrict speech on the video conferencing platform that is critical of the Chinese government. Jin reportedly participated in an effort to shut down Zoom events about the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre. According to a report by the New York Times, federal prosecutors have charged Zoom executive Zinjuan Jin over his alleged participation in an effort to shut down critics of the Chinese government. Jin, who was based out of Zoom’s office in China, was fired by the company this week after the charges were made public. Jin reportedly logged onto Zoom events about the Tiananmen Square Massacre posing as a terrorist. Then, Jin would flag the event and have them shut down as a violation of the platform’s terms of service. Jin reportedly targeted meetings that were deemed problematic by the Chinese government. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have developed into phenomenal players for the Boston Celtics. The Celtics’ future looks safe with the two being their leaders. But is it finally time to worry about their postseason performances? Even in the 2020 postseason, the Celts couldn’t make it all the way to the finals. They were one of the favorites to come out of East. However, Miami stopped them in their tracks. Jaylen Brown opens up on the regular season expectations from the team Jaylen Brown talked about the expectations for this season in a media conference. “I am not worried at all,” said Brown. “I believe in our system, our coaching staff, and the guys we have. A Chinese tech executive spied on users of a U.S. company’s video conferencing platform on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party’s intelligence services, according to federal prosecutors. The executive allegedly fabricated evidence against the video conference participants in order to shut down events to commemorate the Tiananmen Square massacre.  A Justice Department official said that the case shows that American companies with significant business interests in China are “not immune from the coercive power” of the communist regime. A Chinese national working for a U.S.-based tech company spied on video conference calls at the behest of China’s intelligence services, and shut down calls held to commemorate the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, the U.S. government announced on Friday. Justice Department officials said that Xinjiang Jin, also known as Julien Jin, collected information about the video platform users, some of whom were in the U.S., and provided...
James McCann is the second significant free-agent acquisition for the Mets this offseason, but it’s clear their biggest addition is the guy signing the checks. With new owner Steve Cohen showing a willingness to spend — to go along with the enthusiasm of a fan — there’s a different way of doing business in Queens. McCann — who inked a four-year, $40.6 million deal to become the Mets’ catcher — said he was won over by where the team appears to be going. “I think one thing for me, personally, was the direction the New York Mets were headed in,’’ MCann said in a Zoom call Thursday. “From the moment we heard from the Mets this offseason, they were definitely a team high on the list, just because of the guys they have in the clubhouse, but also the addition of the new owner, Sandy [Alderson, team president] and Jared...
(CBS San Francisco) — After their Super Bowl LIV appearance, the San Francisco 49ers came into the season as favorites in the NFC West. But injuries and COVID concerns have led them to a 5-8 record so far, good enough for last place in the division. They could conceivably climb out of the cellar and even make the playoffs, but a division title is off the table. The Arizona Cardinals, at 7-6, have struggled as well. But their playoff hopes are a little brighter. Both teams could also play spoiler to the division leaders. At this point, the NFC West really comes down to the division-leading Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks, both at 9-4. The Rams hold the tiebreaker by virtue of their win over the Seahawks a month ago. But the two teams will meet again in the second-to-last week of the season. That game could decide the...
A dark storm 4,600 miles across on the distant ice giant Neptune has left astronomers confused after it changed direction, a phenomenon never seen before. Storm vortices like Neptune's dark spot aren't unusual, but nobody had previously witnessed one turning back towards the poles after migrating to the equator.   Using images from the Hubble space telescope, University of California, Berkeley astronomers said the change of direction was 'unexpected' and surprising. The storm is wider than the Atlantic Ocean on Earth and was first discovered by Hubble in 2018 where it was born in the northern hemisphere of Neptune. A year after it was first observed it had started migrating towards the equator, but the latest observations from August 2020 show it moving back to the north. Hubble has tracked similar dark spots over the past 30 years but this 'unpredictable atmospheric behaviour' is something never before witnessed by astronomers. ...
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Florida forward Keyontae Johnson’s prognosis is “trending in the right direction, but we still have a lot of questions,” the school’s athletic director said Wednesday. Scott Stricklin told WRUF radio that Johnson continues to make progress after collapsing on the court during a game at Florida State. Stricklin visited Johnson at UF Health on Tuesday afternoon. “He was actually awake. He was actually sitting up in a chair,” Stricklin said. “You could tell he’s still been sedated, so he was still a little groggy. But he thanked me for coming by. It was good to see him and sitting up. He had family in there, his parents and others.” Stricklin said he has received even better news since regarding Johnson’s recovery. “I’m told he’s even progressed a lot since then, that he’s having good conversations with his doctors, with his coaches,” Stricklin said. “He’s smiling and...

A video has hit that web that might be some trouble for Baltimore Ravens star Marcus Peters. In a video tweeted by @MarqsJO, it appeared like Peters spit in the direction of Cleveland Browns star Jarvis Landry during the Monday night matchup. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football) It can only be seen for a very short second, but you can absolutely see what looks like spit flying through the air. Give the video a watch below. This you @marcuspeters? Spitting on a dude that’s walking away from you? And you got the nerve to call someone else “home girl?” Bitch move if I’ve ever seen on. pic.twitter.com/nas1p9MZmg — Obese Turtle (@MarqsJO) December 15, 2020 Yeah, that video is going to be potential trouble for Peters, especially if the NFL can find other angles of the alleged spitting. Astronomers using NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope say a mysterious dark storm on Neptune has suddenly changed its direction, which they say they have never seen before. The storm, which is wider than the Atlantic Ocean, has been raging in the northern hemisphere of the gas giant since at least 2018, and is slowly moving toward the planet’s equator where similar storms are expected to scatter. But instead of slowing down to its death, to the astonishment of the audience, the vortex suddenly changed direction and doubled north again by August 2020. Image: Small space as Hubble noticed. Image: NASA Hubble, the only telescope with sharpness and sensitivity to the visible spectrum of light to observe these elusive features, was the first to observe this type of atmospheric behavior. Adding to the mystery, in January of this year Hubble found another small dark spot that appeared near the big storm. Scientists...
ONE Direction’s hair stylist has admitted it was tough working with the lads on tour. What made it worse is some of the lucky ladies who had liaisons with the boys – Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne – would fall in love with them. Lou said: “With me, I was with them from right at the beginning until right at the end so you can’t sleep with them. It’s quite important to keep in your job. “Some people would come in and think it’s love, but it’s not, and it’s the...

Virginia voters are split along partisan lines on whether the commonwealth is moving in the right direction, according to a new poll conducted by Christopher Newport University. And while most of the 906 registered voters are satisfied with Virginia’s COVID-19 school options, three out of four are worried their children will fall behind in school because of disruptions due to the pandemic. The poll was taken after Election Day, between Nov. 8 and Nov. 22. According to Christopher Newport University’s Wason Center for Civic Leadership, Virginia voters are evenly split about the direction of the Commonwealth (48% right direction, 47% wrong direction) and about how Democratic Gov. Ralph Northam is doing his job (47% approve, 46% disapprove). The split runs along partisan lines with approximately nine out of 10 Republicans disapproving of the state’s and Northam’s direction, while nine out of 10 Democrats approve of Virginia’s and Northam’s direction. Carmelo Anthony details why Knicks weren’t even considered in free agency By: Alexander Wilson December 6, 2020 ShareTweetFlipRedditGoing into his 18th season in the NBA, former New York Knicks sharpshooter Carmelo Anthony was rumored to possibly make a return to Madison Square Garden. Anthony, who spent seven seasons with New York and played in 412 total games, found a new home with the Portland Trailblazers this past season. He led them to the playoff bubble, and while they didn’t reach the finals, the team is getting stronger and could make it even more prominent run this upcoming campaign. During Melo’s time with the Knicks, he averaged 24.7 points per game, 3.2 assists, 7.0 total rebounds, a .443 field goal percentage, and .369 percentage from beyond the arc. Altogether, he was phenomenal in New York, representing their best player for many years. However, the...
Sean Hannity devoted part of his opening monologue Friday to discussing the sworn allegations of election fraud from ordinary Americans across the country.  The "Hannity" host claimed that the affidavits, "along with surveillance videos in two states ...now casts what is real significant doubts on the integrity of the 2020 election.  "Brave Americans now coming forward publicly, many of them as you know under the penalty of perjury, they deserve to be heard," he added. Hannity also noted embattled Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp's call Thursday night for Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger begin an audit of signatures on mail-in ballots. KEMP CLAIMS SECRETARY OF STATE RAFFENSPERGER HAS YET TO ORDER SIGNATURE AUDIT "Brian Kemp may have actually, finally taken a baby step in the right direction," Hannity said, "while he still has steadfastly refused to call a special legislative session to fix the problems with the two-tiered signature verification system." Scott Rolen is doing much better on the Hall of Fame ballot this year. After the induction of Tim Raines into the Baseball Hall of Fame, former St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Scott Rolen has become the new sabermetric darling, as those numbers show that Rolen’s career was worthy of induction into the HOF despite the thoughts of some curmudgeonly old writers. This movement is picking up steam this year, as Rolen’s Hall of Fame case is looking stronger than it ever has. According to the early returns on ballots that have been made public, Rolen, a seven-time All-Star, has already gained four votes. That number is sure to increase in the coming months. Before sending off his ballot, Moreno decided to check one additional box. Rolen gains his vote and climbs to net +4. Harry Styles has revealed in a new interview with Variety where he was named Hitmaker of the Year, that being a part of the multi-million-grossing boy band One Direction created some of his fondest career memories. He said that he learned so much as a member of the quintet, which included members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson, and shared that believed everyone “loved” being a part of the experience. After selling 42 million albums worldwide, One Direction went on an extended hiatus in 2015 after five years together. This was after being created by Simon Cowell from five solo performers who attempted to win the U.K. competition series The X Factor. While they didn’t win the competition, One Direction rocketed into superstardom with the hit song, “What Makes You Beautiful.” “I learned so much,” he said to Variety of his years in One Direction and learning...
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — While the win-loss record might not reflect it, first-year coach Matt Rhule has the Carolina Panthers headed in the right direction. The Panthers are 4-8 entering the bye week and any realistic chances of reaching the playoffs — even with an extra wild card team added in both conferences this year — have all but evaporated. But the playoffs were never an expectation for the Panthers, who began the season with a new coaching staff, a new franchise quarterback and a revamped roster with more turnover than any team in the league. The lack of an offseason and preseason games due to the coronavirus pandemic limited Carolina’s chances of developing much in the way of chemistry and put Rhule and his staff of mostly college coaches even further behind the eight-ball. Consider that running back Christian McCaffrey, the team’s most dynamic player, has been limited to...
(CNN)Harry Styles may be gracing covers of magazines solo these days, but the singer has only good things to say about his time in boy band One Direction. "When you look at the history of people coming out of bands and starting solo careers, they feel this need to apologize for being in the band. 'Don't worry, everyone, that wasn't me! Now I get to do what I really want to do.' But we loved being in the band," the "Watermelon Sugar" singer said in an interview with Variety. He added that though some may have the general desire to "pit people against each other," he prefers expressions of gratitude. "It's about a next step in evolution. The fact that we've all achieved different things outside of the band says a lot about how hard we worked in it," he said. One Direction, as most know, was born after Styles...

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) — Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar said Tuesday efforts to resolve Cyprus’ ethnic division should start fresh and aim to achieve a two-state deal, because decades of negotiations for a federation-based agreement have got nowhere. Tatar said a regional “new state of affairs” that takes into account the discovery of significant gas deposits off Cyprus creates the need for a two-state accord, under which equally sovereign Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots can live “side by side.” The Greek Cypriots reject the two-state idea. Tatar spoke after meeting United Nations envoy Jane Holl Lute, who arrived on the island nation to scope out chances of resuming peace talks that have remained dormant since 2017. U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he’s willing to host an informal conference bringing together the two sides as well as Cyprus’ “guarantors” — Greece, Turkey and former colonial ruler Britain — in hopes...
For the first time in 35 years, drivers will be tolled in both directions on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge starting Tuesday. Cars with an E-ZPass will be charged $6.12 in either the Staten Island or Brooklyn directions, the MTA announced earlier this month — half the current Staten Island-bound toll. Most other drivers will pay $9.50, compared to the existing one-way toll of $19. Staten Island residents will only be charged $2.75 to cross the bridge in either direction. Brooklyn-bound vehicles have been exempt from paying since 1986 federal legislation made the span the only one in the country with mandatory one-direction tolls. The highest-in-the-nation toll encouraged some 7,000 daily drivers to opt for a toll-free route through Manhattan, clogging up the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and Manhattan’s Canal Street. President Trump and Congress repealed the statute in 2019 with the support of outgoing Congressman Max Rose (D-Staten Island) and other New York City...

NEW YORK (AP) — Sam Darnold could be getting closer to returning to the huddle. The New York Jets quarterback was expected to be limited in practice Wednesday, but there’s optimism Darnold’s injured right shoulder might be healed in time to play against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at home. “We’re taking this day by day,” coach Adam Gase said. “We’ll see how today goes. Hoping for things to go smooth and he feels good. Things are trending in the right direction, but we’re going to take this one day at a time.” Darnold missed the past two games with the injury and has been on a throwing interval program since last week. Follow the money. Always follow the money. When I was a kid, my dad occasionally took me to Aqueduct, where one day we hung out downstairs — near the rail and the railbirds of all financial standing, barons to bums. I wanted to see the one jockey I knew of, the great Angel Cordero, ride from close up. In Cordero’s first race, his mount finished out of the money, and as he and his horse headed back I couldn’t believe the hateful words being hollered at him well within earshot, from, “You bleepin’ monkey man!” to, “You’re a bleepin’ thief!” I was stunned, upset. Why? My dad explained that those men had bet on Cordero and had lost their money. Four or five minutes earlier, he further explained, they thought so much of Cordero they bet on him; now they despised him. It was then I learned to follow...

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo plans to visit the West Bank and the Golan Heights during an impending trip to Israel, the Washington Examiner has confirmed with a source familiar with details of the trip. The historic itinerary was first reported by Axios. Pompeo’s trip exemplifies a pair of high-profile decisions taken in 2019 that provide diplomatic reinforcements for Israel’s de facto control of the territories, a posture that Pompeo believes helped the Jewish state and Arab nations set aside the Israeli-Palestinian dispute in favor of partnership against Iranian threats. “What fundamentally shifted is by President Trump making a few simple decisions based on his belief in conservative realism, right? Jerusalem is, in fact, the capital of Israel, Golan Heights, in fact, are inside of that country, it’s not illegal per se for every settlement to be established,” Pompeo told conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt Thursday morning....

CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jonathan LaPook told WTOP that he had been hoping the U.S. would be in a better spot controlling the spread of the coronavirus heading into the winter months. “We have over 145,000 cases a day, hospitalizations at more than 65,000, we’ve topped 10 million in terms of total cases and 240,000 deaths,” LaPook said. “Remember at the beginning when we were talking about bending the curve? I think we’re at that same point right now — we’re at this inflection...

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven announced restrictions on alcohol sales in bars and restaurants Wednesday, a move meant to slow the spread of the coronavirus. “All the indicators point in the wrong direction,” Lofven said at a news conference on Wednesday. Bars, restaurants, and nightclubs will be forced to stop selling alcohol after 10 p.m., which authorities hope will minimize gatherings and encourage social distancing, Reuters reported Wednesday. Sweden, which has drawn worldwide interest for its relatively hands-off approach to the pandemic, has confirmed nearly 167,000 cases and more than 6,000 deaths due to COVID-19, far more than its Scandinavian neighbors. While the total case count in Sweden is dwarfed by other countries reporting devastating outbreaks, such as France, Spain, and the United States, its per-capita rate is just as high. In fact, Sweden has confirmed more cases per capita than the U.S., according to New York...

Sunrise, Fla. – November is a good month for Florida Panthers defender McKenzie Weigher. The 26-year-old has returned home to Ottawa and is preparing to start his fifth season with the Panthers after signing a new three-year deal worth $ 9.75 million last week. He also wears a stylish, mini-horseshoe mustache, which he points out is an achievement that, like the signing of the multi-million dollar NHL deal, has always seemed unattainable. “I never thought I would see a day when I could grow a beard, but here I am,” Weigher said Monday, flashing a smile through his thick mover whiskers. It is no secret that Weeker wanted to be with the Panthers, the team that selected him in the seventh round of the 2013 NHL Draft. He has built a home for himself in South Florida and, after advancing in the ownership line-up, is now securely attached to the...

Peniel JosephThe election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris now offers America a once-in-a-generation opportunity to jump-start the process of confronting systemic racism and renewing democracy. Kamala Harris's election as the first woman, African American, and South Asian vice president in our nation's history offered a particularly profound example of the power of representation and the importance of Black women organizers, activists, thought leaders and citizens. At the same time, though the election results represent the defeat of Donald Trump and a victory for the soul of America,...
BERLIN (Reuters) - German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier told broadcaster Deutschlandfunk on Monday that he was concerned uncertainty in the United States would continue for months and it would not be clear until spring what direction U.S. policy would take. U.S. President Donald Trump, who has spent months trying to undermine the election results with unproven allegations of fraud, pledged on Saturday to go forward with a legal strategy that he hopes will overturn state results that gave Democrat Joe Biden the win in Tuesday's U.S. presidential vote. Asked if he thought trade wars would end under Biden, Altmaier said he thought there would be a return to stronger multilateralism. He also said Biden's plan to return to the Paris climate agreement was key. (Reporting by Michelle Adair; editing by Thomas Seythal) Copyright 2020 Thomson Reuters.
