Prince William: “Why am I feeling like this? Why do I feel so sad?” Prince William has previously referred in passing to the emotional toll that attending a tragic accident involving young child took on him. However, in a new Apple Fitness+ podcast, entitled Time to Walk and recorded as a soliloquy during a stroll, William has gone into extraordinary detail about the incident. William, 39, said the experience made him feel “like the whole world was dying,” adding, “It even makes me quite emotional now.” Although the podcast is not being formally released until tomorrow, it appears most of the U.K. papers have been given advance access. The Sun on Sunday and the Mail on Sunday lead on the emotional effects on William of attending the accident, a car crash involving a young child, identified by the Mail on Sunday as Bobby Hughes, who was five...
Let’s dig right in! Paul Krugman of The New York Times says that Republicans are “actively working to make the country ungovernable.” To some extent it surely reflects a coldly cynical political calculation. Voters tend to blame whichever party holds the White House for anything bad that happens on its watch, which creates an incentive for a sufficiently ruthless party to engage in outright sabotage. Sure enough, Republicans who fought all efforts to contain the coronavirus are now attacking the Biden administration for failing to end the pandemic. But trying to shut down the government to block vaccinations seems like overreach, even for hardened cynics. It’s notable that Mitch McConnell, whom nobody could accuse of being a do-gooder, isn’t part of the anti-vaccine caucus. What seems to be happening instead goes beyond cold calculation. As I’ve pointed out in the past, Republican politicians now act like apparatchiks in an authoritarian regime, competing to take ever more extreme positions as a way to demonstrate their loyalty to the cause — and to The Leader. Catering to anti-vaccine hysteria, doing all they can to keep the pandemic going, has...

Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer joined "America Reports" Friday to discuss what the Biden administration is doing to tackle the crime crisis. ARI FLEISCHER: In a time when so many things feel like they are not going right in America, between COVID and inflation and the bad economy. You add crime to it, on a local level, and boy it’s a palpable sense that people feel like it is just not working. Crime is an instant emotion for most people, and if the situation continues to deteriorate, it will be taken out of government officials. The real problem here is that criminals are sensible. They make a two-part calculation. One, if I commit a crime will I get caught? Two, if I get caught am I going to get put away? If the system is too lax, it is a rational decision for people to make their money and crime. That’s where you need to have tough law enforcement and tough criminal codes. SACRAMENTO (AP) – Spurred by a recent run of large-scale smash-and-grab robberies, prosecutors and retailers are pushing back on assertions by California’s governor and attorney general that they have enough tools to combat retail theft in the wake of a voter-approved easing of related laws. “We cannot function as a society where we have told people over and over again that there is no consequence for stealing other people’s property,” said Vern Pierson, immediate past president of the California District Attorneys Association and El Dorado County’s district attorney. READ MORE: Man, 38, Indicted For 7 Bank Robberies Across Northern California“We feel a little bit like we’re under assault,” California Retailers Association President and CEO Rachel Michelin said separately. Shoplifting has been a growing problem, Michelin said, but recent large-scale thefts in California and elsewhere across the nation in which groups of individuals rush into stores and take goods in plain sight or smash and grab from display cases is “raising it to a whole new level.” California is hardly alone, with similar brazen incidents seen in Minnesota, Chicago’s North Michigan...

A 17-year-old student has been arrested after threatening to carry out a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida - the scene of the 2018 Parkland school shooting where 17 people were killed. Oliver Manik, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas (MSD) in Broward County, was arrested after he made the threat in a social media group chat when students involved in the chat reported him to the authorities according to a school spokesperson. The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) quoted Manik as saying: 'I feel like school shooting tomorrow. When I sneeze, it's a signal go to the bathroom. Okay? And I hope y'all aren't snitches.' Students reported the threat to the BSO at 11am local time on Wednesday, and detectives located Manik on Thursday and promptly arrested him, according to BSO spokeswoman Claudinne Caro.   It comes less than two months after Nikolas Cruz, who massacred 14 students and three teachers at the high school with an AR15 in February 2018, pleaded guilty to 17 counts of murder and attempted murder, and apologised to the victim's families.   Now...

WE can only imagine how nerve-wracking it must be to pop the question - first and foremost, you're going to be stressed about whether your other half will say yes. And once you're past that hurdle, you've also got to get the ring right - both in terms of style and size. 1The bride had shown her fiance photos of the kind of ring she wanted and even told him her sizeCredit: Getty But while most people we know would probably accept a proposal even with a Haribo ring, one woman has caused quite a stir after admitting she HATES the design her fiance chose. Sharing her dilemma on Reddit, the bride-to-be explained how she's been with her other half for three years and had often shown him pictures of rings she likes. She explained: "I do like slightly bigger diamonds because I have chunkier fingers & I feel like small diamonds kinda get lost on my chubby hands." As such, the woman had told her partner that she would be happy with a bigger moissanite if he couldn't afford...
Legally speaking, the jury in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial in Kenosha, Wisc., only cleared him of the specific charges of intentionally killing two and injuring a third. Whatever way the verdict is being celebrated in conservative quarters, it was not a blanket promotion of self-defense laws as a blind for carrying semi-assault weapons in a protest over another racial policing incident. In Charlottesville, Va., the jury decision in a lawsuit that slapped $25 million in penalties on nine white supremacists for organizing hate rioting that ended in a fatality specifically stopped short of finding broader hate crimes at play. What we should take away from all three trials is that race is a live issue in America, critical theories taught or not. Our state and federal lawmakers and courts are ill-prepared or ill-motivated to fix the root problems. And in Brunswick, Ga., on Wednesday, state prosecutors won guilty findings against three white defendants who chased and killed Ahmaud Arbery for jogging while Black. But race was specifically downplayed through a trial that almost never came about. The jury decision could...
KIDS often pose the trickiest questions. From queries about sex and booze to drugs and race — these often ill-timed musings can catch you totally off guard. 1Kids can ask awkward questions so it is better to be preparedCredit: Getty But there is nothing to fear, as Nikki Watkins finds out from children’s emotional wellbeing expert Poppy O’Neill, who provides some perfect responses to those toe-curling conundrums. ‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING?’ “If your child catches you both in a compromising position, reassure them you and your partner were having fun together, doing something grown-ups do called sex. “Let them know that although sex is normal and healthy, it’s not for children to see or participate in. “Explain that sex is private and you stopped as soon as you realised they were there. And reinforce that they haven’t done anything wrong. “Older children might be shocked that their parents do it — be honest with them, and reassure them it’s a sign of a healthy adult relationship.” ‘WHAT IS SEX?’ “Focus on consent and healthy relationships, and always use the correct...
It’s time for the annual festival of consumerism known as holiday shopping season. It may actually be past time, given supply chain problems that have led some people to shop early. But the culture says this weekend is about shopping. Let’s say that you want to opt part of the way out of hypercommercialized Christmas but still want to give some gifts, and you’re looking for gifts to feel good about in some way or other. Experience gifts may be back again this year after becoming very difficult last year thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Be cautious, of course, that you feel good about the safety of anything you’re doing or urging other people to do, but things like museum tickets or memberships and live shows with solid COVID-19 precautions could be very nice gifts after close to two years of restricted opportunities. If your crafting skills are up to the level of making homemade gifts, more power to you, but … many of us are not there. So here are some places to look for gifts to feel good about beyond the...

It will be hard, Deirdre O’Connell says, to say goodbye—for now at least—to Dana H. at the end of this week. The off-Broadway play, which transferred to a reopened Broadway alongside Is This A Room? to create a repertory double hit at the Lyceum Theatre, will close on November 28. O’Connell is preparing for a degree of separation anxiety from her alter ego, Dana Higginbotham, the playwright Lucas Hnath’s mother whose experience of kidnapping and violence at the hands of a deranged psychopath O’Connell brings to unique life on stage in Hnath’s play. We hear Higginbotham’s voice recite her own searing, deeply disturbing testimony, which O’Connell lip-synchs. As an audience, we do not take our eyes off O’Connell, whose face tells us as much as Higginbotham’s words. It was a surprise, given the universal critical praise for both shows and response of audiences, that the closing of the shows was announced, then an equally surprising reprieve, extending their stage life to the end of this month. Many will be hoping for another miracle so their lifespans might be extended...
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Zach Wilson waited a month to get back to this spot. The New York Jets rookie quarterback is fully healthy and the starting job is his again. “It feels awesome,” Wilson said Wednesday. “You know, just that rush, that feeling you get just to be back on the field, it’s exciting. I’m just happy to be back with the guys.” Wilson sprained the posterior collateral ligament in his right knee against New England on Oct. 24. He spent the last four weeks recovering and rehabilitating, keeping patient while the Jets played on without him. He worked out before each of the last two games and his knee showed improvement, but coach Robert Saleh insisted the team wouldn’t play Wilson until he was completely healthy. He’s now good to go. “I feel 100% confident in my ability to go out there and play football how I need to play football,” Wilson said. “That was kind of what I told the coaches is, I feel like I can go out there and play my game and not...

'I'm never writing a break-up album again,' Adele declared to Vogue magazine in 2012 after the release of her tormented broken heart laden second album 21. 'I'm done with being a bitter witch.' Expanding on this theme, she told U.S. TV show 60 Minutes at the time: "I'm madly in love and I don't want to be like, 'Babe, I'm sorry, we've got to break up. I've got a new album to deliver.'" But in 2019, reportedly just a few months after finally tying the knot, they got divorced. And Adele's now produced another break-up album, 30, in which, to borrow her own description, she strays back into the territory of being a 'bitter witch.' Seattle at Green Bay was never going to live up to the hype, and really how could it? Karma intervenes in pro wrestling all the time, sure, but rarely in the NFL and almost never in the middle of the regular season. So those who hoped to see Aaron Rodgers laid low for misleading most everyone about his vaccination status will have to bide their time. Ditto for those who hoped he’d emerge from a 10-day quarantine after a positive COVID-19 test like some avenging superhero, proving that Joe Rogan’s hair-of-the-dog-engineered cocktails work as well as anything the Centers for Disease Control puts its stamp of approval on. As it turned out, Rodgers was barely better than Russell Wilson — the Seahawks QB was making his own return from a hand injury — and just good enough to help the Packers post a 17-0 win Sunday. “I’m happy, I’m just so tired,” Rodgers said. “It’s been a long, long 10 days.” Unlike his coach and teammates, Rodgers spoke to reporters after the game via video conference instead...

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said Sunday that the current fiscal environment of “skyrocketing inflation” and “gas lines” makes him feel like Jimmy Carter is back as president and America is living in “That ’70s Show.” WATCH: “I’ve got to tell you the trillions that are being spent, the trillions in debt that’s being racked up, it is historic and not in a good way,” Cruz told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.” “You know, it kind of reminds me of the television show ‘That 70s Show.’ It feels like Joe Biden is Jimmy Carter all over again and we’re seeing skyrocketing inflation, we’ve seen gas lines, we’ve seen a Middle East crisis, we’ve seen hostages, we’ve seen surrender, in this case in Afghanistan — all of these problems are replicating and it turns out cause and effect still operates, that when you spend trillions of dollars, you cause inflation,” Cruz continued. (CNN)So, guys, who wants to be a superhero? That was the question I asked my two sons about getting vaccinated against Covid-19.On November 3, the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 started -- a significant milestone in our fight to end the pandemic. The White House estimates nearly 1 million children in this age group have already received their first shot of the two-dose Pfizer series and another 700,000 appointments are scheduled in the "coming days," including for my two boys, Ammar and Hasan. Syra MadadI recently wrote about why I'm going to vaccinate my kids, sharing three specific reasons. One: for their protection. By being vaccinated, they will have a reduced risk of suffering from severe illness, hospitalization, death or experiencing Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C). Two: for our collective societal protection. We can't truly end this pandemic until we have more immunity in the population, and children play a big role in that community immunity. And, three: to resume the pre-pandemic activities we enjoyed doing as a family. While my entire family,...

Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell appeared to be frustrated with another loss Sunday at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals and posed a challenge to his quarterback, who has been under center for all six losses to start the season.  Jared Goff was 28-for-42 passing for 202 yards and an interception in the team’s 34-11 loss. A New Jersey trucker who shot to a shock victory in the state's senatorial elections has told of his shock at winning, as he met with Muslim leaders to apologize for a 2019 tweet calling the Prophet Mohammed a 'pedophile.'   Ed Durr, 58, who claimed to have spent less than $200 on a campaign that ousted one of the most powerful political figures in New Jersey politics, spoke to reporters after Democrat favorite and incumbent Steve Sweeney conceded the race on Wednesday.
