A British Snapchat engineer and his wife tried to save their baby daughter, who died of hyperthermia and probable dehydration, before they succumbed to high heat while on a remote California hiking trail hike last summer, according to a recent investigation.  Jonathan Gerrish, 45, Ellen Chung, 31, and their 1-year-old daughter, Miju, and dog, Oski, all died in the 100F heat, investigators had concluded after the tragic family was discovered in August. A survival trainer involved with the case wrote an email to detectives that the young couple likely died while attempting to save their infant daughter. 'Sadly, I believe they were caught off guard, and once they realized their situation, they died trying to save their child and each other,' the unidentified trainer wrote.  'It is likely the child began to succumb first, which hurried the parents' efforts up the hill. When one could no longer continue, they stayed behind to care for the child and pet, while the other tried to forge on and get help for their loved ones. It is a tragedy of the highest order.'  The...
A sick trove of child porn found on Josh Duggar's work computer was protected by the same password used for his family's Instagram account, a court heard today. Prosecutors say Duggar used his business HP to download videos of minors being humiliated and abused but hid his sordid activity behind a device called a Linux partition. The Linux system effectively created a second, secret operating system on the same computer that could only be accessed by rebooting the machine, hitting F9 and manually typing in the password intel1988. It's behind this partition that the government says Duggar used encrypted 'peer-to-peer' software to anonymously search for and download child porn files from the dark web.  The court in Josh Duggar's trial heard Friday that child porn found on his computer was protected by the same password used for his family's Instagram account Josh Duggar and wife Anna are seen arriving for Friday's proceedings at his trial in Fayetteville Arkansas  The couple, pictured with six of their seven young children, subscribed to a service in 2013 called Covenant Eyes that monitors adult...

Joe Biden is seen shopping in Nantucket on Saturday without a mask. President Joe Biden was caught disobeying an indoor mask mandate this weekend just hours after being fully briefed on the new Omicron variant of the coronavirus and banning travel from eight African countries.  The president, who has been staying on the island of Nantucket with family this Thanksgiving weekend, was spotted inside Murray's Toggery Shop with his mask around his neck and not covering his mouth. The island brought back its indoor mask mandates earlier this month.   Biden, who is vaccinated, has repeatedly told Americans to wear masks indoors, but has been found multiple times not heeding his own advice. The White House said that Biden has been 'fully briefed' on Omicron as fears rise over the new super mutant variant - and the president's top health expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said he 'wouldn't be surprised' if the strain was already in the U.S.  The president was joined by his son Hunter and three of his grandchildren, including Hunter's infant son Beau, named for the president's late eldest son. President Biden...

Dear Amy: “Teacher in a Quandary” reached out regarding a rare collection of objects that were left behind by one of her students. Amy Dickinson  I graduated from high school in 1998. While I was learning about World War II in my 11th-grade U.S. history class, my grandfather, a veteran of that war, gave me several priceless items from his time serving our country. I chose to bring these items into school to share with my teacher and classmates, and, sadly, I failed to bring them home. For many years my family asked about those items, and I carried a lot of guilt with me for my lack of responsibility with such an important part of history and my grandfather’s story. A few years ago, the high school that I attended began a major renovation, which caused many teachers to move from classrooms that they had taught in for decades. One evening, I was waiting in a hallway outside my young daughter’s classroom, and my U.S. history teacher passed by. Related Articles Ask Amy: My children won’t attend...

The silence by the FBI over whether it has recovered the gun used by Brian Laundrie to kill himself and why investigators did not reveal that he had a weapon in the first place has led to a backlash against the feds for not warning the public that Gabby Petito's deranged fiance was armed and dangerous during his month-long manhunt. Laundrie's body was found in Florida's Carlton Reserve on Oct. 20 and an autopsy Tuesday revealed that he died of a single bullet wound to the head. His family's lawyer Steve Bertolino told DailyMail.com on Wednesday that one of the family's guns was missing when Laundrie vanished on Sept. 13, but that the feds kept it secret because they didn't want the public to panic. While Laundrie's family was uncertain of the missing weapon's make and model, Bertolino said that it was definitely a pistol, and that the family definitely reported it missing. 'I don't know if [law enforcement] would mention that at the beginning - they found a body, they found possessions, that was it,' he said of the...
The New England Patriots are not short on Thanksgiving side dish hot takes this holiday season. One day after Bill Belichick appreciated the existence of potatoes more than he ever did his former quarterback Tom Brady, star defensive end Matthew Judon ranted against macaroni and cheese. “It’s just cheese and noodles and it’s not that good,” Judon told reporters this week. “Let’s be honest guys: Everybody here is probably a little lactose (intolerant) so it messes up our stomachs and we’ve got to get it off the table. It’s probably one of the most overrated dishes.” “You know how they say, ‘Your taste buds change every seven years?’ Every time I try it, it’s the same thing and it’s never going to change and it’s never going to get better,” the stud defensive end continued. “It’s disgusting. Get it off the table. The bathrooms will be less busy and everybody will have a better day.” Judon doesn’t just loathe the taste of macaroni and cheese, he detests its merely potential presence on the Thanksgiving table and if it even nears...
(CNN)Lin-Manuel Miranda is not throwing his shots, and in 2021, the creator of "Hamilton" has been getting a whole lot of them. After his earlier work "In the Heights" became a critically admired (if little seen) movie, Miranda has made his directing debut with "Tick, Tick ... Boom!," a loving adaptation of "Rent" creator Jonathan Larson's coming-of-stage story, and written eight original songs for "Encanto," a Disney animated film featuring a predominantly Latinx cast. That follows another animated movie, Netflix's "Vivo," which he produced in addition to writing the music.Although he is working from a script by Steve Levenson ("Dear Evan Hansen"), Miranda has clearly approached "Tick, Tick" as a deeply personal ode to musical theater in general and in particular Larson, who tragically died on the eve of what would become "Rent's" record-breaking run at the age of 35.Deftly expanding the source material into a movie, the film is anchored by a sensational performance by Andrew Garfield as Larson, with the title referring to the sense that his bravado about becoming "the future of musical theater" is running dry, with...
Amanda Knox has called on Rudy Guede to 'restore her wrongly damaged reputation' and take full responsibility for the murder of Meredith Kercher as he completed his sentence for the killing. Guede, 34, was formally released on Tuesday 14 years after the grisly murder and sexual assault of 21-year-old Kercher in Perugia, Italy, in November 2007.  He was convicted in 2008 for the murder that also saw Kercher's American flatmate Knox and her Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito jailed but then sensationally acquitted. Guede was found guilty after his DNA was discovered on Kercher's body despite his claims that he was in the bathroom listening to music when she was killed. In a thread posted on Twitter, Knox wrote on Tuesday that she wants Guede to help clear her name by admitting he acted alone in the murder. She wrote: 'Rudy Guede, the man who killed Meredith Kercher and falsely accused me, just had his sentence reduced yet again. He is now free, and his relationship with the Italian justice system is definitively over. How do you imagine I feel? Amanda Knox...

He hinted at mental health struggles, saying she 'was overwhelmed and couldn't face official duties, life in general or even family life' and is suffering from 'exhaustion, both emotional and physical'.    Discussing the impact their mother's absence has had on the children, the Monaco royal spoke to French news outlet Monaco Matin and admitted that they had 'suffered', but that that they had 'a family environment that made sure they weren't lacking in affection'.   But it seems like they're...

Prince Andrew’s lavish lifestyle, conducted on a known income of a naval pension of around £20,000 ($27,000) has long been a true royal mystery. Even when he was receiving an annual stipend from his mother of £250,000 ($340,000), he appeared to live a flashy lifestyle of fancy holidays, fast cars, a $23 million Swiss chalet, and private jets way beyond his apparent means. No doubt the sale of a mansion given to him by his mother helped, especially as he sold it for £3 million ($4 million) more than the asking price to a Kazakh oligarch, who, after some delay, demolished it. Now at least part of the answer to the riddle of Andrew’s enviable cash-flow situation is provided by a Bloomberg News investigation that has found a company controlled by one of the ruling British Conservative party’s major donors, David Rowland, sent £1.5 million ($2 million) to Andrew. Andrew promptly used the money to repay a loan for an equivalent amount from a private bank controlled by the Rowland family. Bloomberg News alleges that David Rowland’s company, Albany Reserves,...
Dr Anthony Fauci has become the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in the U.S., in both a negative and positive sense. For some, he is a comforting figure, leading the nation through a disaster. For others, he is the face of government overreach, mismanagement and overreaction. Fauci, the man who serves as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), says the criticism and constant threats he and his family have received have taken a toll on him over time. He blames former President Donald Trump and other conservative politicians for the nation's current state of divisiveness, and some of the failures of America's pandemic response. Dr Anthony Fauci (pictured) told CBS' Sunday Morning that much of the criticism and fury he has received during the COVID-19 pandemic is a result of divisiveness in the U.S. right now. Pictured: Fauci speaks in an interview with the CBS show Fauci is pushing for more Americans to get vaccinated, though their is a split along party lines of who is getting the shots. As he prepares to stand on stage at Meridian Hall in Toronto on Monday night to deliver his Hockey Hall of Fame induction speech, Doug Wilson will no doubt have spent time thinking about his journey and everyone who has influenced his life and career. Wilson will have thought about the people who helped shape him as a person and player – his father, Douglas, his older brother, Murray, his junior hockey coach Brian Kilrea, and his earliest Chicago Blackhawks teammates like Stan Mikita, Tony Esposito, and Keith Magnuson. “There are some guys that are very close and near and dear to me that unfortunately aren’t with us and may not be here physically, but in spirit,” Wilson said of his dad, and Mikita, Esposito, and Magnuson. But Wilson will also have reflected on how his family — his four children and numerous grandchildren, and especially his wife Kathy – impacted his life on and off the ice. “There is no chance my dad’s career could have happened the way it did without my mom,” said...

Last year, Lentz, 42, was ousted from his position as at the megachurch, where he counseled the likes of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, because of reported 'breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures.' He soon confessed to being unfaithful to Laura, the mother of his three children, and was later accused of sexual assault. Laura — who was also fired from her position at the church — has now spoken candidly about how difficult it has been, saying she 'wouldn't wish my journey on my worst enemy' but she is choosing to view the emotional scars she's acquired as 'beautiful.' Transportation Pete Buttigieg defended his own paternity leave Monday as he pitched the new $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill headed to President Biden's desk as he said the White House would 'continue to fight' for family leave legislation. His defense of family leave came even as a group of Democratic moderates pledged to back a White House framework agreement 'in its current form other than technical changes' – meaning without family leave provisions that are a priority for progressive lawmakers. 'The president put forward a framework that he's confident can pass the House and the Senate,' Buttigieg told reporters at the White House Monday. 'I think it's also no secret how I feel about family leave and how the president does, which is why ... he campaigned on it and we will continue to fight for it.  Then he defended providing time for leave for the birth of a child or to care for a family member – after he took time after he and husband Chasten adopted twins. California Governor Gavin Newsom has disappeared from public view for 10 days and abruptly canceled plans to attend the COP26 climate summit in Scotland, raising questions about what is impacting his schedule. Two days later, his office issued a statement citing unspecified family obligations, abruptly cancelling his plans to attend the global climate conference, a huge gathering of international leaders on a subject that is among his highest priorities. The statement claimed that Newsom would attend the summit virtually, though he still has not made a video appearance. California's lieutenant governor led the delegation in his place. All 24 female senators from both parties came together on Thursday to ramp up pressure on President Biden to develop a plan for the dire situation that now faces Afghan women and girls.  The letter, led by Sens. Shelley Capito and Dianne Feinstein, says that 'American disengagement from Afghanistan puts at risk hard-won gains for Afghan women and girls.'  'Women and girls are now suffering the predations of a Taliban regime with a track record of brutalizing, isolating, and denying them life and liberty. Taliban leaders who promised that women would be treated well under the new government are not upholding those commitments,' the letter reads.  The senators note that women are now the victims of targeted beatings and are banned from leaving home without a male chaperone.  Where some 3.5 million girls were in school in Afghanistan last year thanks to the American-backed government led by Ashraf Ghani, the Taliban has indefinitely suspended secondary school for girls. A furious black mom is suing a Michigan police department for pointing a gun and handcuffing her 10 year-old son after his dad was apprehended by cops.   'I'm scared,' the visibly frightened child can be heard telling the Pittsfield Township officer while getting handcuffed, in footage recorded from the officer's person during the April 16 incident.  The altercation, which saw the boy's dad filmed screaming over how his son was treated, has since become the focus of a federal lawsuit filed by the boy's mother. It came after the boy's father was ordered by cops to drive away from the scene of a shooting that had been cordoned off by police. He drove down the wrong side of a road, sparking a police response. A 100mph chase then ensued, with the dad and his son both restrained after officers finally apprehended their white Dodge car.  The suit, filed in a Michigan US District Court on October 5, argues that the Pittsfield Township officer, who has not been formally identified, caused 'emotional injury' to the youngster during the April 16 traffic stop,...
