Following the footsteps of a father in sport is often more of a curse than it is a blessing. Expectations rocket before the son has even been able to cut their teeth. In football there has been Peter and Kasper Schmeichel. Basketball has Doc and Austin Rivers. Cricket had Ian and Liam Botham. Some successions work brilliantly,  others see the son never emerge from their father's shadow.  And in sporting father-son terms, there is no shadow greater and no expectation bigger than that on Michael Schumacher's son, Mick.  Mick Schumacher (left) is determined to follow in the footsteps of father Michael (right) in F1 Schumacher Jnr drove his dad's old Ferrari F2004 before the Tuscan Grand Prix last weekend RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 Next F1 star Kimi Raikkonen mocks his super-woke rival Lewis... The Night City Episode 3 aired recently, and to say that it was exciting, would be an understatement. Along with some additional game details, the Cyberpunk 2077 PC system requirements were also unveiled. Although, that was not the only major takeaway from the episode. A visual tour of the Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 The stream kicked-off with a stunning walkthrough of the Night City. The city drew its inspiration from the original lore behind the game but was absolutely majestic. The entire city was divided into 6 different districts, where each of them were divided into further sub-districts. It seemed as though the city was heavily inspired by the movie Bladerunner: 2049, which is based on the cyberpunk genre. Floating holograms, neon lighting on skyscrapers, the complex roads, all made the futuristic city more realistic. Level Designer Miles Tost also revealed that the city was based on the...
The best part about the Islanders season, which ended in a heartbeat and a heartbreak Thursday, is that it was hard — impossible, even — to find even one member of the rank-and-file fan base who was anything other than utterly smitten by the team. These are always the most fun seasons, after all — the ones that come out of nowhere, that fall from the sky and present themselves at your feet and all but announce: “This, dear friend, is why you care so much. Because every now and again you get a season like this one.” And in an odd way, the fact the Islanders’ march ended shy of a Stanley Cup almost purifies the experience; any championship team, of course, is almost impossible to find fault with, but when you can have nothing but a feel-good vibe even without the big trophy? That’s a special season. And...

(CNN)Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said Monday that the United States is facing one of the most difficult moments in the nation's history, with "four historic crises all at the same time." "The worst pandemic in a hundred years, that's already killed nearly 200,000 people and counting. The worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, that's cost tens of millions of American jobs and counting. Emboldened white supremacy unseen since the '60s and a reckoning on race that's long overdue. And undeniable acceleration of the punishing reality of climate change on our planet, on our people, on the lives and livelihoods," Biden said in Wilmington, Delaware. Biden said he and his wife Jill Biden continue to pray for those affected by the historic wildfires in the western part of the United States that have killed at least 35 people, displaced thousands and burned millions of acres. This story is breaking and will be updated.

N'Keal Harry fumbled through the end zone on Sunday, sending the Patriots defense back on the field. CBS Patriots wide receiver N'Keal Harry fumbled through the end zone against the Miami Dolphins, turning what looked like an easy touchdown into a turnover. The miscue highlights one of the most frustrating rules in the NFL, which punishes teams for aggressively trying to score and rewards defenses. A simple solution exists: When a team fumbles through the end zone, they should get back possession at the 20-yard line with a fresh set of downs. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. One of the most notorious rules in the NFL reared its ugly head on Sunday, when New England Patriots wide receiver N'Keal Harry fumbled the ball out of the end zone. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) described September 11, 2001, as the “one of the most horrific terrorist attacks that we have lived through” in a video posted on the 19th anniversary of the attacks, over one year after describing 9/11 as a day “some people did something.” “I mean, I was 18-years-old when that happened,” Omar said, recalling the tragic day. “I was in a classroom in college and I remember rushing home after being dismissed and getting home and seeing my father in complete horror as he sat in front of that TV.” She recalled feeling as if “the world was ending.” “And I remember just feeling like the world was ending. The events of 9/11 were life-changing, life-altering for all of us. This was, I think, one of the most horrific terrorist attacks that we have lived through,” she continued. “My feeling around it is one of complete horror....

The coronavirus bombshells in Bob Woodward’s new book, “Rage,” due out September 15, are so explosive that they have somewhat overshadowed other important parts of the book — for example, the veteran journalist/author’s reporting on President Donald Trump’s foreign policy decisions. And Woodward, according to the Guardian’s Julian Borger, describes some of the ways in which Sen. Lindsey Graham, former Defense Secretary James Mattis and others tried to rein Trump in on foreign policy. “Rage” is based in part on a series of interviews that Woodward conducted with Trump from December 2019-July 2020. Woodward reports that on February 7, Trump told him that COVID-19 was five times “more deadly” than the flu — although he was publicly claiming, in February, that the novel coronavirus didn’t pose a major threat to the United States. Not surprisingly, Woodward’s damning coronavirus revelations have dominated cable news discussions of “Rage.” But other parts of...

New York Yankee Legends: Jim Abbott, the most amazing no-hitter in all of baseball (video) By: William Parlee September 5, 2020 ShareShareTweetFor the New York Yankees, they have had some amazing pitchers over the years. Major League Baseball has only one baseball player like Jim Abbott. Not only did he have a no-hitter, but he didit with only one hand. Yesterday was the 27th anniversary of that great day for a great guy. Jim Abbott’s Major League career lasted a decade. It began in California and ended in Milwaukee. Along the way, he totaled 87 wins, a 4.25 ERA, 888 strikeouts, and a no-hitter. He began his journey as a rookie for the Angels in 1989, tossed that no-no as a member of the Yankees, continued to beat the odds with the White Sox, and for a curtain call, he tallied both his...
(CNN)Before a bombshell story in The Atlantic revealed eye-popping allegations that President Donald Trump had referred to America's fallen soldiers as "losers" and "suckers," another story was making its way into the ether without much notice. S.E. CuppIn February of 2020, the Pentagon ordered Stars and Stripes, the longtime publication serving United States' service members, to shutter, demanding that the last newspaper publication be September 30, 2020. That's according to a little publicized memo from Col. Paul Haverstick, Jr., recently obtained by USA Today, in which he claims the administration has the authority to red-line the $15.5 million annual subsidy for Stars and Stripes in the President's fiscal year 2021 Defense Department budget, indicating the order comes from the top. It's no surprise, given President Trump's seething disdain for the media and its coverage of him. After a wave of outrage at the news, Trump seemed to realize the...

Why do poor people stay poor? It’s a question everyone already seems to have an answer for. “The poor are lazy.” “The poor can’t manage money.” “The poor don’t have the right mindset.” Those theories are anecdotal at best and downright insulting at worst. The problem with those arguments is that they are based on small sample sizes rather than empirical data. While I agree that some people are poor because of those things, there has been little experimental research done on this topic — until now. Earlier this year researchers at the London School of Economics released a paper titled “Why Do People Stay Poor?” which illustrated how the lack of initial wealth (and not motivation or talent) is what keeps people in poverty. The researchers tested this by randomly allocating wealth (i.e. livestock) to female villagers in Bangladesh and then waited to see how that wealth transfer...
(CNN)"The Boys" quickly became Amazon's signature series, and the second season of this beyond-dark show outdoes the first -- offering a searing take on modern-day America that might be TV's most subversive program, camouflaged in superhero garb. What could be more terrifying than a psychopathic Superman? That's a central facet of "The Boys," which hits the ground running at extraordinary speed (appropriately), while dealing with the notion of evil hiding behind patriotic platitudes and wrapped in a cape. For those who might have skipped season one, spoilers lie ahead if you're thinking about catching up. Broadly, the series remains divided into warring camps, each with its own internal politics, squabbles and issues, presented with jaw-dropping levels of violence (superheroes can cause a lot of carnage when unleashed) and disarming humor. The opening arc closed with Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), the ill-tempered leader of the ordinary mortals opposing the superheroes, learning startling news about...

Mary Elizabeth Williams August 22, 2020 9:59PM (UTC) Layer cakes are overrated. There, I said it. Sure, if it's your birthday or your wedding day, something tall makes an impression. But cake doesn't need to be a special event with candles and songs, nor does it need to be an Instagram-worthy work of art. As far as I'm concerned, cake belongs on the table after a run-of-the-mill Taco Tuesday, after sushi takeout or when it's 4 p.m. and you just feel like a simple lift to brighten the day. And I believe one of the main obstacles people have to home baking is that it seems an overwhelming production. That's why I think you should liberate yourself from two-pan tyranny. It's time to break up with layer cakes. : I don't recall when, exactly, I realized that you get plenty of mileage off a single-story dessert, but I suspect it was the first...

But I don't know much about the movement. I have heard that it is gaining in popularity and from what I hear it's -- these are people that -- they watch the streets of Portland -- when they watch what happened in New York City in just the last six or seven months, but this was starting even four years ago when I came here. Almost four years, can you believe it?"These are people that don't like seeing what's going on in places like Portland, and places like Chicago, and New York and other cities and states. And I've...
Late-night hosts Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon poked fun at the DNC on night two of the convention, Colbert calling it “one of the most electrifying infomercials of the year.” The host noted that Tuesday night’s theme was “Leadership Matters,” and joked that it “forced the GOP to rename the second night of their convention All Qualities Matter.” He went through the whole roster of big speeches, including Former Georgia state representative Stacey Abrams, Former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and Former President Bill Clinton. Colbert generally focused on their respective takedowns of President Donald Trump, but also mocked Clinton — joking that he does not have the right to lecture people on what happens in the Oval Office. The host played a clip of Clinton claiming “The Oval Office should be a command center. Instead, it is a storm center,” and noted that it’s a good point. “But I don’t think Bill Clinton gets to lecture...
Ady Barkan, a health care activist who was diagnosed with the terminal neurodegenerative disease ALS four years ago, gave one of the most moving speeches of the second night of the Democratic National Convention. After Barkan’s diagnosis in 2016, President Donald Trump signed a tax bill that threatened Barkan’s health insurance. Barkan traveled to Washington, DC, to advocate for single-payer health care. Though former Vice President Joe Biden has opposed Medicare for All, this evening Barkan made an impassioned plea to vote for him, as Trump’s administration asks the Supreme Court to invalidate Obamacare. “Even during this terrible crisis, Donald Trump and Republican politicians are trying to take away millions of people’s health insurance,” Barkan said, speaking with help from a computer voice due to paralysis from the disease. “With the existential threat of another four years of this president, we all have a profound obligation to act, not only...
Normally at this time of year, they like to be peering at the night sky, the older woman expertly directing her younger companion to the constellations that shine so brightly above Balmoral Castle in late summer. They are rare moments of tranquillity for the Queen and her long-standing dresser and confidante Angela Kelly, who has her own telescope. This August, however, stargazing into the inky darkness has not provided the distraction of previous years. Not only has the coronavirus severely disrupted the royal holiday, but the Queen’s break has also been overshadowed by the saga of Prince Harry’s exit from the Royal Family – or at least the one-sided version of it provided by the authors of Finding Freedom. The latest twist in the ongoing fallout from that new book now places the Queen and Miss Kelly side by side in an unedifying and frankly petty squabble over who said...
(CNN)Mike Lindell (aka the "MyPillow Guy") has long been one of Donald Trump's staunchest allies. He's called Trump the "greatest president" ever and suggested that Trump was chosen by God for the role. And because Trump likes people who like him, the President has been similarly complimentary of Lindell. "Boy, do you sell those pillows," Trump told Lindell at an event at the White House in March. (Lindell's pillow, which is touted for its comfort, has made him a multimillionaire.) Lindell has also claimed that Trump has urged him to run for office. But Trump has done more than just praise Lindell. He allowed Lindell to take part in a July White House meeting about the potential therapeutic properties of something called oleandrin, an extract from the oleander plant. "He was enthusiastic, as he is on everything that's going to help people," Lindell told CNN of Trump's reaction to the extract and...

In Union Square on Tuesday morning, Maloney advocated for the passage of her own bill, the Delivering for America Act, in a special session of Congress later this week to put a pause on any reduction of service the Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and President Donald Trump plan to implement, rather than funding the Postal Service. “My bill will reverse actions that have been taken by the postmaster general to slow down the mail in what amounts to voter suppression,” Maloney said. “One of the reasons for this emergency is the president’s own words,...
Monday on CNN, anchor Jake Tapper commented on former first lady Michelle Obama’s speech closing the first night of the Democratic convention. Tapper said, “First of all, before I get to any of the content, we should just acknowledge that the former first lady is one of the most effective speakers in American politics today. She was reading that from a teleprompter, and the way she speaks is, you know, strong enough to give any politician a run for his or her money. In fact, if I can be so bold, she’s a more effective speaker than Vice President Joe Biden is when reading from a teleprompter.” He continued, “But beyond that, we’ve never heard this country, a former first lady or current first lady, speak this starkly about the candidate that she is not supporting. She painted, first of all, a very dystopian picture of the United States, and I...

BROWARD (CBSMiami) – The Broward County Sheriff’s race is one of the most watched and contentious races in South Florida ahead of August 18 Florida primary election. Six candidates are vying for the nomination and whoever wins will move onto the November election ballot, but in democratically rich Broward County, a win is likely in the general election. “With no disrespect to anyone it’s a two-person race,” said Scott Israel. Israel, the former sheriff, is trying to get back what he lost when Governor Ron DeSantis removed him two years ago. Israel was criticized for his handling of the Parkland school massacre and the deadly Ft. Lauderdale- Hollywood International Airport shooting. DeSantis replaced him with Gregory Tony, a former Coral Springs police sergeant. “This race is about the entire community,” said Tony. One of the most predictable indicators of whether a president is reelected, the strength of the economy in the second quarter of the election year, is offering a grim outlook for President Trump's prospects in November. Because of the persistence of the coronavirus pandemic, Mr. Trump is facing the greatest economic downturn since the Great Depression. The economy had been Mr. Trump's most convincing argument for remaining in office, one he touted regularly, and for good reason — the economy matters to voters.  The president's economic advisers have pinned their hopes for a strong recovery in the third quarter, estimates for which will be released on October 29, days before November 3. A finger of suspicion has been pointed at the world’s most expensive painting - because the hands are ‘too childish’ to have been painted by Leonardo da Vinci. Salvator Mundi sold for $450 million (£342 million) in 2017 but art expert Jacques Franck believes it is a ‘workshop Leonardo’ created by two of the artist’s assistants. The French historian argues that the fingers of Christ’s right hand which are held in the sign of the cross lack Da Vinci’s usual anatomical precision. ‘When the index and the middle finger are raised fully, one cannot bend the other fingers inside the palm extensively as observed in the Salvator Mundi’s blessing hand,’ he said. ‘It is therefore an unlikely movement.’ Salvator Mundi, above, sold for $450 million (£342 million) in 2017 but art expert Jacques Franck believes it is a ‘workshop Leonardo’ created by two of the artist’s assistants (file photo)...

The federal agency primarily responsible for the distribution of foreign aid has been roiled in recent days by the most Trumpian of dramas, one involving an anti-LGBT political appointee, blundering conservative operative Jacob Wohl, accusations of stalking, prostitution, and the potential hiring of a young conservative with past racist writings.  The chaos seemed set to crest with a slap-dash press conference scheduled for this Thursday. But within a day of the presser’s announcement, the main protagonist was apparently recanting her accusations and insinuating that Wohl had stolen her phone and signed into her Twitter account to send the offending messages that set off the fireworks that got her fired.  The setting of the entire mess was the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), an agency known largely as a bit of a backwater when it comes to the government’s foreign policy apparatus, but one with a $16.8 billion foreign...
(CNN)As Americans are finding out, intelligence is a two-way street. And Donald Trump is a dead end. Samantha Vinograd For years, the President has abused intelligence to fit his personal needs. Each of the others had to hear him only once to metaphorically throw down his pick and raise his hands in surrender.  A young man of spectacular beauty with his mushroom-cloud hair and delicate face, James Marshall Hendrix broke down the barrier between black soul and white rock to create an explosive heavy metal genre all his own.  To women, he was irresistible. 'You couldn't call him a womaniser,' recalls his fellow musician and friend Robert Wyatt. 'It was the women who were Hendrix-isers.' Jimi's blazing success came to a tragic end...
