WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A Wichita man charged with shooting at police during protests last month told a co-worker that he “emptied a whole clip” on officers after his sister was hit with a rubber bullet while holding a baby. An arrest affidavit released Friday in the criminal case against 28-year-old Henry Parker says he admitted to the co-worker that he’d fired on officers early on June 2 but told her “don't tell on me," The Wichita Eagle reports. Parker, who has denied any involvement in the shooting, is charged with 19 counts of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, two counts of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer and one count of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon. None of the officers was shot, but police said one officer’s helmet was hit by bullet pieces that had ricocheted near the officers. On Monday, protesters gathered to voice their opinions about police in schools outside the board of education building in Oakland. A petition in connection with the protest is calling for several changes, including removing all 22 Pittsburgh Public School police officers from inside and outside the schools as well as adopting policies that keep Pittsburgh police out, except when required by law or if there is an imminent risk of serious physical harm. Discussions about police in schools continued Tuesday during school board hearings, where police officers were heard from. Officer Marion Parker has worked for PPS, and she’s seen a lot. She talked to KDKA’s Jennifer Borrasso. “I have arrested for firearms, arrested for weapons, for drugs, arrested for assaults, I’ve arrested for trespassing,” Parker said. COLLEGE STATION, TX – Two scientists at Texas A&M University have called for a bipartisan inquiry into the country’s handling of the initial COVID-19 outbreak response. As of June 23, Texas’ Department of State Health Services has reported 114,881 total cases as the U.S. death toll surpasses 120,000 people. Related: 274 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in San Antonio, Bexar County Peter Hoetz, a Hagler Institute scholar at Texas A&M and a vaccine researcher at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston agreed with Texas A&M’s Gerald Parker, the director of the Pandemic and Biosecurity Policy Program, for the need for a bipartisan inquiry into the country’s response of the outbreak. Particularly concerning, Hoetz said, in the country’s response was that transmission was allowed to go on for weeks without a major public health response. “What hurt Wuhan was what hurt New York City, which is the virus transmission went on for six weeks before there was any public health intervention,” Hotez said in a statement. Hoetz said, in an interview with Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp, that he is worried...
