PHOENIX — Draymond Green pulled up, exhausted, and watched as the nail dig into the coffin of the Warriors’ seven-game winning streak and their claim to sole possession of the NBA’s best record. Jae Crowder’s 3-pointer with 3:47 to go sealed the Warriors’ fate in a 104-96 loss to the Phoenix Suns in a matchup of the NBA’s top two teams that lived up to its billing. Green had just run the length of the court and back two times but failed to complete either of his attempts at the rim that could have stemmed the Suns’ game-clinching run. Instead, all he could was watch. Crowder’s 3 was the clincher in a 24-18 fourth quarter that gave the Suns their 18th consecutive win and pulled them even with Golden State atop the Western Conference standings at 18-3. Tuesday’s game was more than just an early season matchup for supremacy in the West. It was a battle of one team vying to regain its position and another looking to replicate the former’s dynastic reign. Suns coach Monty...
Republican Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz snapped back at Anthony Fauci for remarks he made in a TV interview Sunday responding to GOP criticism of the infectious disease expert. In an interview with CBS News' Face The Nation, President Joe Biden's chief medical adviser also dismissed Republican criticism of his work as 'lies' and agreed with the notion that GOP lawmakers were using him as a scapegoat. 'Anybody who spins lies and threatens and all that theater that goes on with some of the investigations and the congressional committees and the Rand Paul's and all that other nonsense, that's noise... I know what my job is,' Fauci told host Margaret Brennan.  Paul responded in a tweet Sunday: 'The absolute hubris of someone claiming THEY represent science. It's astounding and alarming that a public health bureaucrat would even think to claim such a thing, especially one who has worked so hard to ignore the science of natural immunity.'   Texas Senator Ted Cruz also had harsh words in response to Fauci's criticism.   Brennan told Fauci, 'Senator Cruz told the attorney general...

Charlottesville, Virginia (CNN)The jury in the civil case involving White nationalists who organized a two-day rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, will begin a third day of deliberations Tuesday morning, a day after asking the judge about reaching unanimous decisions on the six counts. On Monday the 12-member panel asked US District Judge Norman Moon whether they need to be unanimous on each of the final three counts if they cannot reach a unanimous decision on first three counts, which related to conspiracy claims. Two of the counts -- five and six -- are related just to actions by James Alex Fields Jr., who sped his car into a crowd of protesters, killing one person and injuring dozens. The other involves a statute on racial, religious or ethnic harassment or violence.Without the jury present, the judge said, "I don't know why there's any misunderstanding about that. I think I'm going to tell them they must continue to try to reach a unanimous decision on all six counts." Fox News saw a bit of a shake-up in the ratings on Monday as Tucker Carlson Tonight dropped to third place behind The Five and Special Report with Bret Baier in the advertiser-coveted 25-54 age demo. For coverage of closing arguments in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, Tucker Carlson’s often dominant prime time show scored 668,000 viewers in the demo, lagging behind The Five‘s 774,000 and Bret Baier’s strong showing of 763,000 viewers in the demo. New York (CNN Business)Rivian, a 12-year-old startup that's never sold a single vehicle, is now the third most valuable carmaker in the world. The electric vehicle maker has been public for all of one week, but its share price has more than doubled in that time, valuing Rivian at more than $140 billion — just ahead of Volkswagen ($139 billion), and in third place behind Toyota ($306 billion) and Tesla ($1 trillion). On Tuesday, the stock opened 6% higher, at about $159 a share. When the company debuted last week, it priced its shares at $78. Even though Rivian hasn't brought any of its electric trucks to market, it's ginned up major investor interest with prominent backing from Amazon, which bought a 20% stake in 2019, and Ford (F). Jeff Bezos is a big fan, and has been seen shuttling his fellow space explorers to and from Blue Origin's West Texas launch site in Rivian's signature truck. It only takes one game to give life back to a team’s playoff hopes. So far this fall, we’ve seen “season-salvaging” wins in Week 2, Week 4 and in Week 10. While it’d be nice for the Washington Football Team to win a “non-must win” game, Sunday’s 29-19 victory over Tampa Bay keeps them from entering Thanksgiving week as turkeys. The victory was sparked by a defense that made multiple big plays in the first half and cemented by an offense that ran a 19-play, 80-yard soul-sucking drive in the fourth quarter. One is used to seeing those drives coming against the Burgundy & Gold (Buffalo & Kansas City come to mind). For one week, the rebuild is back on track and the light at the end of the tunnel is not a train coming in the other direction. MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A woman is expected to live 81 years in this country. That means one third of her life time will be spent menopause. There’s still a lot of stigma when it come to women and aging, but a Minnesota woman is hoping to change that conversation and give women some helpful products to ease a tricky time in life. “Women enter menopause without knowing much about it,” Dr. Ekta Kapoor, assistant director at Mayo Clinic Center for Women’s Health, said. Menopause is Kapoor’s main line of research. She says more than three quarters of women will experience the most common symptoms of menopause, like hot flashes and night sweats. But there are others. “The things that they don’t correlate with menopause are the other very common symptoms. Anxiety, mood changes, which could be subtle,” Kapoor said. “The other big one is sleep … After a point it becomes a very complex web. A woman who is not sleeping well night after night is not going to have a great mood. If she ends up getting depressed, she’s...
Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy, the chamber's longest serving member, announced on Monday he will not seek re-election next year, offering Republicans an opening to regain control of the Senate.  81-year-old Leahy was first elected in 1974 and serves as the Senate's president pro tempore, placing him third in line to the presidency, after Vice President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. 'It's time to put down the gavel,' he said, announcing his retirement at the Vermont state house in Montpelier.  'It is time to pass the torch to the next Vermonter who will carry on this work of our great state.  'It's time to come home.'  He will be the third longest serving senator in history if he finishes his eighth term at the end of 2022. But it sets up a battle that Democrats will need to fight hard to win if they are to maintain their wafer-thin majority in the Senate.  Democratic Sen. Global net worth has trebled over the last two decades, with China accounting for a third of its growth, according to a new report. China's wealth rocketed to $120 trillion from a slender $7 trillion in 2000, the year before it joined the World Trade Organization, accelerating its boom. The United States, held back by smaller real estate gains, saw its net worth double over the same period to $90 trillion. In both countries, the world's two largest economies, the top 10 per cent of households owned two-thirds of the wealth, the report by consultancy group McKinsey said. Leklerk took the podium and Tactolip (11th) signed the most spectacular breakthrough. A week after the 2021 election, officeholders and political hopefuls around the country are using the victories and losses in their respective parties to create a game plan for the 2022 midterm elections. Some of the major issues in this year’s election — public safety, what’s taught in schools, COVID safety rules, abortion rights and connection to Trump — will likely continue to be big pressure points in 2022, especially in swing districts. In Minnesota, the National Republican Congressional Committee has already marked two districts — the second and third — as targets for Republican takeover next year. And the two representatives currently in the spotlight, Reps. Angie Craig and Dean Phillips, already face Republican candidates vying for their spots. Minnesota Sixth District Rep. Tom Emmer is chairman of the NRCC, and as such will play a major role in the national Republican party as it attempts to win back the House next year. “In a cycle like this, no Democrat is safe,” Emmer said after the results came in last week. “Voters are rejecting Democrat[ic] policies that have caused...

By Anna Bahney | CNN Business The median price of single-family existing homes rose in nearly all — 99% — of the 183 markets tracked by the National Association of Realtors in the third quarter, with double-digit price increases seen in 78% of the markets. But the stratospheric surges in prices have slowed a bit from earlier this year, according to NAR’s quarterly home price report, released Wednesday. The median home price was up 16% to $363,700 in the third quarter from a year ago, a slower clip than the 22.9% jump in the second quarter. “Home prices are continuing to move upward, but the rate at which they ascended slowed in the third quarter,” said Lawrence Yun, NAR’s chief economist. Continued strong demand from homebuyers and historically low inventory at a time when mortgage interest rates are expected to rise helped to push prices higher in nearly all of the markets that NAR measured. “I expect more homes to hit the market as early as next year, and that additional inventory, combined with higher mortgage rates, should markedly reduce...

Peloton shares plunged 24% on Thursday after the company reported a net loss of $376 million in its third quarter, as the company struggles to recover from a voluntary treadmill recall sparked by an infant's death and 29 other injuries. The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell to a fresh pandemic low last week, another sign the job market is healing after last year's coronavirus recession. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits fell 14,000 to 269,000 for the week ended October 30, the Labor Department said on Thursday, marking the lowest level since the middle of March in 2020.  Since topping 900,000 in early January, the weekly applications have fallen more or less steadily ever since and are gradually moving toward prepandemic levels of around 220,000 a week. The new data follow a strong hiring report from ADP, which said on Wednesday that private payrolls increased by more than expected in October. The monthly federal employment situation report, the most closely watched indicator, will be released on Friday. The economy has recovered 17 million of the jobs lost to the pandemic, and economists expect Friday's jobs report to show that it regained another 400,000 in October.  But the United States is still 5 million jobs short of where it stood in February 2020, despite record openings of...

New York (CNN Business)From supply chain chaos to worker shortages, America's economic recovery ran into some serious challenges in the third quarter of the year.Economists polled by Refinitiv expect that between July and September America's economy grew at the slowest pace since the recovery began — an annualized rate of 2.7% — and a massive step down from the 6.7% rate in the spring. California's Los Angeles and Long Beach ports in San Pedro Bay - which move about 40 percent of shipped cargo entering the U.S. - are ranked among the worst in the world, falling behind third-world countries such as Kenya and Ghana. The Los Angeles port ranked 328 of the 351 ports listed in the World Bank and IHS Markit’s 2020 Container Port Performance Index. Its grade was worse than the port in Lome, Togo, which is among the world’s poorest countries. Long Beach’s port faired even worse, landing at the 333rd spot a few places behind Kenya’s Mombasa port. Both ports slide below the ranking of the Ghana's Tema port, listed in the 261st spot.  The poor rankings come as massive backlogs continue to disrupt the supply chain ahead of the holidays and threaten to continue the logjam into the 2022, and thousands of freight containers sit idly on more than 100 vessels that simply don't have anywhere to unload. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden said Thursday he is considering sending in the National Guard to alleviate supply chain issues and drive...

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), who also used personal security funded by her campaign, spent almost $4,000 with Ware Security Consultants Inc., according to the report. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. The FEC reports filed by the Minnesota Democrat show the congresswoman, who called the Minneapolis Police Department “rotten to the root” last year and said, “defund the police” is “not a slogan but a policy demand,” reportedly spent more than $22,000 on private security form two firms: Aegis Logistics LLC and Lloyd...

More than 10 million Americans have received boosters shots since they became available in the U.S. this August, new data reveal. These include about 6.7 million seniors, comprising almost 15 percent of Americans over age 65. Booster shots are driving up vaccination numbers in the U.S., as the number of Americans getting their third doses comprises between one-third and one-half of shots given in the country each day.  However, limited demographic data are available on who's getting booster shots, making it difficult to evaluate the rollout from state to state or across different race and ethnicity groups. The Chicago Police Department has started placing officers on unpaid leave for failing to report their vaccination status by Friday's deadline.    As of Tuesday, 4,543 officers – a little over one third of the force – have not complied and are being given one last chance to report whether they've been vaccinated or be put on no-pay status.  Meanwhile, the city has started seeking recruits from suburban Illinois to fill the potential staffing shortage.  So far, about 50 officers have been placed on an unpaid status, according to Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara. Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Monday, however, called the 50 officers a 'very small number' who have had their pay stopped by the city for refusing to cooperate with the mandate.  About one third of the Chicago Police Department, or 4,543 officers, have not complied with the city's demand to report their vaccination status  As of Tuesday, about 50 officers were placed on unpaid status for refusing. Hong Kong (CNN Business)China's economy grew just 4.9% in the third quarter of 2021, the weakest rate of expansion in a year as the country contended with a major energy crunch, supply chain disruptions, and deepening debt woes in its outsized property sector. The rate of growth from a year ago in the July-to-September period was much slower than the 7.9% year-on-year increase China registered in the second quarter. It's also the weakest rate since the third quarter of 2020, when GDP also grew 4.9% year-on-year. This is a developing story and will be updated.

It doesn’t matter that the play didn’t count due to offsetting penalties, no one is ever going to forget it. Henry will get his chance to put more Buffalo defenders on their backside on Monday night — though Norman, now with the 49ers, won’t be one of them. But as the league’s most dominant team through five weeks, the Bills enter this game as the league’s top defense in yards allowed and points allowed. Buffalo is also No. 3 in rush defense, surrendering just 78 yards per game on the ground. Even last year, Henry rushed for only 57 yards in Tennessee’s 42-16 win, so he...

Analysts polled by Reuters had expected the Singapore economy to grow 6.6% year-on-year in the third quarter. On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted basis, the economy expanded by 0.8%, Singapore's Ministry for Trade and Industry said in a statement. In a separate release, the Monetary Authority of Singapore — the country's central bank — said it raised slightly the slope of its currency band, the Singapore dollar nominal effective exchange rate band. The width of the policy band and the level at which it is centered is unchanged, the central bank said. The MAS manages monetary policy through setting the exchange rate, rather than interest rates, by allowing the Singapore dollar to rise or fall within an undisclosed band against a basket of currencies. It adjusts the band through three...

In 2021, the Santiago Espinal was good. The infielder, who spent his defensive time on the third floor this year, is a big puzzle to Blue Jays. In 92 games, his order of 311 / .376 / .405 shows us that he had frequent tracks. When he was playing, he was a regular, but he did the job. No, his power is average, there is nothing to write about his two home runs and his 17 RBIs. It wasn’t his job, he hit the bottom of the list. However, his 32 points show that he was on track when the guns came after him. Apparently, defensively, he is innocent. He played on the third floor, but he could play anywhere. I don’t know about you, but for the ninth win, he’s the best. He goes towards the goal for George Springer, and he ensures the much-needed defense. In my opinion, he should have a regular role in 2021. We understand each other: a regular character does not mean being there for it every day. This could mean missing out on...

A federal jury this week convicted a Nashville man on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and this is not this man’s first experience with this. That man, Davian M. Greenlee, is 40-years-old, according to a press release that the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Tennessee published Thursday. “This conviction arose from an incident which occurred on March 16, 2018, when Greenlee and Darius Gustus, 28, broke into a home in Antioch, Tennessee. Officers with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department responded to a call from a neighbor and found Gustus on the roof of the home, trying to escape and Greenlee was found inside hiding under a pile of clothes in a closet,” the press release said. “A stolen, loaded .40 caliber Glock, taken from an earlier burglary, was found next to Greenlee, which he claimed belonged to the homeowner and a loaded 9mm pistol was found on the roof where Gustus was hiding. The homeowners testified that they did...

New York (CNN Business)US business leaders are still upbeat about the economic recovery. But they're not as confident as they were just a few months ago, and they blame the Delta variant and a super tight labor market for the drop in sentiment. The Conference Board, a leading business research think tank, reported Thursday a steep slide in its CEO confidence index for the third quarter. After hitting an all-time high of 82 in the second quarter on hopes that the United States had turned the corner on the pandemic, the index slid to 67 — a nearly 20% dip — in the third quarter. The good news is that a reading above 50 remains a sign of overall optimism. But the downward trend bears watching, especially since US consumer confidence also slumped earlier this summer.
