Director Ridley Scott has defended his House of Gucci film, claiming its creators tried to be 'respectful and 'factual' as possible, after the Gucci Family slammed the Lady Gaga-led movie.  The flick, which also stars Adam Driver, hit theaters on November 24 and raked in $21.8 million during its first five days - but the Gucci family were certainly not pleased with it. They said in a statement on Monday that Al Pacino's portrayal of Aldo Gucci, who founded the Italian fashion brand in 1953, 'couldn’t be further from the truth.' In April, Patrizia Reggiani - the ex-wife of Gucci heir Maurizio - also claimed that Pacino looked 'fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly' in on-set photos.  The family's statement also said they took issue with how certain members were painted 'as thugs, ignorant and insensitive to the world around them.'  Now, Ridley has responded to their comments, and he called the family's response 'alarmingly insulting.'  'The people that were writing from the family to us at the onset were alarmingly insulting, saying that Al Pacino did not represent physically Aldo Gucci in...
The Gucci family slammed Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci in a scathing statement, saying the film “is extremely painful from a human point of view and an insult to the legacy on which the brand is built today.” The heirs of Aldo Gucci, who was chairman of the Gucci fashion house from 1953 to 1986, have issued a statement saying they are “a bit disconcerted” about what they claim is their inaccurate portrayal in Scott’s new film, House of Gucci, according to a report by Variety. “The Gucci family takes note of the release of the film ‘House of Gucci’ and is a bit disconcerted because, although the work claims to want to tell the ‘true story’ of the family, the fears raised by the trailers and interviews released so far, are confirmed: the film carries a narrative that is far from accurate,” the statement began. “The production of the film did not bother to consult the heirs before describing Aldo Gucci — president of the company for 30 years — and the members of the Gucci family as thugs, ignorant and...
Paramount / Fox / YouTube Behind the scenes secrets from ‘Star Trek: First Contact’ It is hard to believe, but 25 years have passed since the ‘first’ movies featuring the crew of the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” hit movie screens around the nation. It was this day, back in 1996, when Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his crew traveled back in time to face the Borg and save the future of humanity.  Some may argue that “Star Trek: Generations” was the first “Next Gen” film, but that was a bridge between two eras. “Generations” featured more time with the TNG crew, but the plot still revolved around a missing Kirk (William Shatner) and a madman who was trying to reach a literal Nirvana. “First Contact” featured the Borg in a new role — one of a sexual predator, thanks to Alice Krige’s portrayal of the Borg Queen. Her minions battled Worf (Michael Dorn) and Lt. Hawk (Neal McDonough), as fans would expect. The queen herself tortured poor Data (Brent Spiner) and tormented Picard.  Here are five...

Ridley Scott is one of the most celebrated filmmakers in Hollywood right now. He is a three-time Academy Award-nominated director, with a film winning the Oscar for Best Picture (Gladiator). Scott made his debut with the 1977 film The Duellists, that went on to win the Best Debut Award at the Cannes Film Festival.  He is the kind of film-maker who likes to dabble in all kinds of genres, and eke success out of them. Though his favourite genre seems to be science fiction. If his breakout film, Alien, was science fiction meets horror, Blade Runner was science fiction that deals with existential themes. His last big hit, The Martian, merged science fiction with a survival drama. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Team Up for a Project After Two Decades, Will Play Medieval Knights in Ridley Scott’s Adaptation of The Last Duel. Melanie McFarland September 3, 2020 8:00PM (UTC) Ridley Scott does not see a bright future for humanity. His vision is beyond compare, and his filmography is marked by acclaimed films set during all eras, with some of his most spectacular evoking history ("Gladiator," "Kingdom of Heaven") and contemporary stories ("Thelma & Louise," "Black Hawk Down"). As for how he sees where humanity is headed – indeed, where it's set to end up – look at the garbage piles passing for cityscapes in "Blade Runner," or the corporatization of humanity as seen in "Alien," "Prometheus" and "Alien: Covenant." The "Alien" films don't show us much of Earth – only deep space, where humanity survives on ships. No matter, since the Scott-produced HBO Max series "Raised By Wolves" fills in the gaps by showing what he and series creator Aaron Guzikowski plausibly suspect will happen. The short version is that humanity wrecks everything with an endless war between atheists and hardcore true-believers, grinding the planet into rubble until the survivors who can afford it jump onto an ark and blast off into space....
Earlier this month, Apple removed Fortnite from the iOS App Store after Epic released an update that violated the store’s terms and conditions. Epic was prepared for this, however, and launched a comprehensive lawsuit complete with a parody version of Apple’s famous 1984 commercial. The original version was directed by Alien and Blade Runner director Ridley Scott, who apparently had some mixed feelings about Epic’s homage. During an interview with IGN, Scott, now 82 years old, was asked if he’d seen the “Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite” parody commercial. “I sure have and I wrote them because on the one hand I can be fully complimented by the fact they copied [my commercial] shot for shot,” Scott told IGN. “But pity the message is so ordinary when they could have been talking about democracy or more powerful things […] I think the animation was terrific, the idea was terrific, and the message was ‘ehh.’” Part of Scott’s hesitation toward Epic’s message may come from the source material for both the parody and the original commercial. George Orwell’s novel,...
Ridley Scott’s Raised by Wolves was supposed to be a straight-to-series order for TNT, but it officially became an HBO Max title last year. Now, the newly launched streaming service has released a trailer for the upcoming sci—fi series, and it showcases elements that bring back memories of Scott’s Alien franchise. Scott directed Raised by Wolves’ first two episodes, making it his directorial debut for TV, while Prisoners’ Aaron Guzikowski served as showrunner and writer. The trailer comes with a brief synopsis of the show that says: “Mother was programmed to protect everyone after Earth had been destroyed. When the big bad wolf shows up, she is the one we must trust.”
Hanh Nguyen August 5, 2020 5:30PM (UTC) "Alien." "Blade Runner." "The Martian." Ridley Scott, director of the most iconic science fiction in cinema, has turned his skills to television. HBO Max debuted the trailer to the new series "Raised by Wolves" on Wednesday, as part of the CTAM's virtual summer press tour. In the series, two androids known as Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) land on a virgin planet and begin raising six human children, the last of their kind after an earlier rift over religious differences with another group of humans. Despite the knowledge and well-intentioned programming, Mother and Father find this task more challenging than expected. : Eight years later, another group of humans arrive on the planet, and Mother is put on high alert as she attempts to control the beliefs of humans that do not follow her programming. Travis Fimmel of "Vikings" lineage co-stars in the series. Scott is an executive producer on the series, in addition to directing the first two episodes of the 10-episode series, which makes it his television series directorial...
Think you’re living an extraordinary life, or just a simple one? Either way, if you film your life for one day — July 25 — and submit it to famed English filmmaker Ridley Scott, you could become part of a feature film. Scott has put out a call for videos from that single day. He will then choose some to weave together into a feature film he’s producing and that is being directed by Kevin Macdonald. The film will premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. “In 2020, history is being made every day,” the announcement for the film reads. “Australian bush fires. Civil unrest in Hong Kong. A pandemic that took precious lives and changed the way we live. Protests in every corner of America — and around the world — to demand that Black Lives Matter. But in the midst of these extraordinary events, everyday life still continues. We share moments, music, and meals. We dance. We laugh. We cry. We love. We fear. We hope. What if we captured all of it in a single day?” The instructions are simple. Film what’s...

If you’d like to take part, there are some requirements you’ll have to meet, such as obtaining permission from everyone you capture and making sure there’s no music in your footage. Only a fraction of the submissions will be included in the film, but there are a few ways you can boost your chances of making it in. For instance, the filmmakers suggest you film in landscape mode at as high a resolution as possible and use an external microphone if you can. You’ll have until August 2nd to submit your footage. Life in a Day 2020 has the potential to be even more compelling than its predecessor, given this is one of the most remarkable years in living memory. It could serve as a living, breathing time capsule of the current state of the world. However, the filmmakers ultimately want participants to make their footage personal and about what matters to them. Last time around, people in 189 countries submitted more than 80,000 clips totaling around 4,500 hours of footage. Macdonald and his team whittled that down to...
