Miami has a four-game winning streak over Sunshine State rival Florida State entering their Week 11 game in Tallahassee. The Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles are two prominent college football programs that happen to be pretty down on their luck. That’s especially true when considering the history of these two teams and all they’ve accomplished with some legendary coaches and star players throughout the years. There’s an intense rivalry between Miami and Florida State with the series being relatively even in terms of which team has come out on top. That said, the Seminoles haven’t been able to break through and beat Miami in recent years. While many of the games between the two teams have been close contests, the two most recent meetings have been lopsided losses for Florida State. The Seminoles were crushed in 2020 as Miami went on to win 52-0. In 2019, things were a bit more competitive, but not in any significant way as the Hurricanes won 27-10.FSU football seeks first win over Miami since 2016In the 2018 and 2017 matchups between the...
In a college football season in which craziness has been commonplace, Florida State Seminoles RB Lawrance Toafili provided one of the wildest touchdowns. Everything in college football has been haywire in the 2021 season, much to the delight of fans. Yet, amid all the upsets, wild finishes and great plays, Florida State Seminoles running back Lawrance Toafili still managed to stand out on a wild touchdown. With the Noles taking on Clemson in Death Valley, They were trailing 10-6 when they got the ball. Quarterback Jordan Travis found Toafili on the right sideline for a nice gain when he was brought down — only he wasn’t. The running back rolled over the would-be tackler without any body part that would rule him down hitting the ground and then tight-roped down the line all the way to the end zone on a 75-yard touchdown. Mike Norvell has to make big strides leading the Florida State football program this season. After a rough first year in Tallahassee, Mike Norvell has to get his Florida State football team playing back up to its potential. Florida State went a disastrous 3-6 in Norvell’s first year leading the program. Yes, Florida State has not been a well-run program for the better part of a decade and yes, 2020 was a COVID year, but this is also Florida State football we are talking about. The ACC’s top two teams will go at it in Tallahassee on Monday when Florida State plays host to the Virginia Cavaliers, who are looking to pick up their 12th win in their last 13 games. Virginia is known for its slow tempo and strong defense, and that reputation deflects from this team ranking eighth in the country in points scored on a per-possession basis while rating sixth in 3-point shooting percentage and third in fewest turnovers per game. Florida State’s offense has been at its best in ACC play, leading all schools in conference play averaging 79 points and making 40.9 percent of its 3-pointers. Leading scorer M.J Walker is connecting on 44.4 percent of his 3s. On the shots they have missed, the Seminoles have done a good job of getting second chances, rebounding 34.7 percent of their misses, which ranks 10th in the country. Florida State ranks 29th in the country in opponent 2-point shooting percentage and is blocking 8.9 percent of shots on defense, which ranks 13th in the country. With Virginia ranking 300th in...
“Scotty Barnes, he will be the next lottery pick out of the state of Florida,” said Georgia technical coach Josh Bastner. “He did some great plays.” Barnes captured six restarts, and four Seminoles scored in double figures to get plenty of help. The state of Florida lost its first Atlantic Coast Conference game last season to Pittsburgh, having previously lost to Duke and Virginia in the opening game of 2017-18 and 2018-19. “This is a very important win for us,” coach Leonard Hamilton said. “We have lost our first ACC game in the last two years. So, we’m got off to a good start. We’m a team that has learned a lot, is still growing. We’re just happy to be where we are. “ The state of Florida (4-0, 1-0) is in good shape because Barnes is a newcomer who has brought energy and confidence, as well as deep veterans. MJ Walker added 14 points, while Balsa Coprivica added 10 points and eight rebounds. The Seminoles won for the 27th time in Tallahassee, including four games that open the 2020-21...

The Florida State Seminoles aren’t having a great start to their 2020 season and Twitter let them know about it. Things were supposed to get better for the Florida State Seminoles after they parted ways with head coach Willie Taggart and replaced him with Mike Norvell. Even a coaching change couldn’t help the Seminoles, because not much has changed this season. The team lost their season opener to Georgia Tech by the score of 16-13, and they didn’t fare much better this Saturday against the Miami Hurricanes.

Florida State football isn’t getting the respect they deserve this offseason. The Seminoles have the talent to make some noise in the ACC this year. Despite going 11-14 over the past two seasons, Florida State football is being heavily underlooked as we inch closer to the start of the college football season. Chip Patterson of CBS Sports was asked who he thought was being underrated in the ACC and he went with the Seminoles stating that they have potential at quarterback, key positions, and their head coach is going to help turn things around for them. Mike Norvell insists everything is all right at Florida State. Mike Norvell might be an offensive wizard that turned Memphis into one of the best Group of 5 teams in the country, but his tenure at Florida State has gotten off to an unusual start, as he now dealing with another small group of players lashing out at him. After wide receivers Warren Thompson, DJ Matthews and Tamorrion Terry claimed that Norvell and the Seminole staff have not done an adequate job of making them feel safe amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the first-year FSU head coach said this team “is on the same page” despite the fact he hasn’t spoken to those three receivers since. (Photo by Don Juan Moore/Getty Images) The Florida State football recruiting class would be loaded if they can get these recruits. Can Mike Norvell get Florida State football back on track under his leadership? Norvell replaces a job-hopping mess known as Willie Taggart as the head coach of the Florida State Seminoles football program. Florida State is seen as a blue-blood program in the ACC but hasn’t yielded an elite team in the better part of a decade. Fortunately, there is a ton of talent in the Sunshine State for the ‘Noles to capitalize on and rebuild a winning culture in Tallahassee. Entering the latter part of July 2020, Florida State has the No. 21 recruiting class in the country and the No. 5 class in the ACC. While it may not be where they want to stay forever, a program has to start somewhere when it’s rebuilding under a new regime. Next1 of 5Prev postUse your ← → (arrows) to browse Florida State football (Photo by Don Juan Moore/Getty Images) Florida State football still has big questions looming as Mike Norvell takes over. Florida State football is free of Willie Taggart. Even if it cost a substantial buyout to get rid of him, the fact that the Seminoles are now clear of an era in which they went just 9-12 over 21 games is a victory in and of itself. But with the rich tradition in Tallahassee, getting out of a bad situation isn’t enough. Therein lies the challenge ahead for new head coach Mike Norvell as he arrives by way of Memphis. Everything you hear out of the program in terms of Norvell’s coaching style has been positive to this point, especially in relation to Taggart. That’s even true when you consider the conversations he and his players had that seemingly built a strong rapport after the coach raises some controversy over his comments about talking to his players about the Black Lives Matter movement. Despite all of that positivity,...
