It is an occasion intended to demonstrate family unity and the Queen's position as Supreme Governor of the Church of England, but Prince William reveals that the Christmas Day church service at Sandringham has not always been as sober as the public might imagine. Beginning his walk at the 16th Century building, he says: 'So we're right outside St Mary Magdalene Church. The flag's up and I'm right beside the door we normally go in as a family. 'And what's very good about it is that we sit opposite each other as a family and, growing up, having my cousins sat opposite me has always been quite difficult to keep a straight face at times. IF we can’t keep calm and carry on when a new variant of coronavirus emerges, then – to paraphrase Chas and Dave – Covid loopy nuts are we. Because the jabs work. 6Getting vaccinated usually prevents you from becoming seriously sick, keeps you out of hospital and stops catching Covid becoming a death sentenceCredit: AP Getting vaccinated usually prevents you from becoming seriously sick, keeps you out of hospital and stops catching Covid becoming a death sentence. And the UK has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. Even as Covid cases hit a five-month high, deaths and hospital numbers here continue to fall. Even as the Omicron variant has gloomy Government ministers telling us to do our drunken Christmas party snogging on Zoom, we can see the shining light of freedom ahead. All thanks to our world-beating vaccination programme. We should be feeling a warm glow of national pride, rather than vowing to work from home until 2022. The mother of Ethan Crumbley, the Oxford High School student who allegedly fatally shot four classmates and injured seven others, texted her son the day before the shooting, “LOL, I’m not mad at you. You have to learn not to get caught.” School officials had informed Jennifer Crumbley and her husband James Crumbley that their son had been seen by a teacher searching for ammunition online. The ammo was intended for a gun the Crumbleys purchased their son, 15, as a Christmas present. The teenager apparently found the gift in an unlocked bedroom drawer and took it. After being told of the incident, Jennifer Crumbley texted her son “LOL” and told him not to get caught, according to prosecutors in Oakland County, Michigan. The next day, the Crumbley parents were summoned to the school after their son’s teacher found a disturbing note he had scribbled. On that note were the words “Blood everywhere,” and “The thoughts won’t stop. Help me.” The note featured a drawing of a gun and a person who’d been shot, as well as a laughing emoji....
A Los Angeles Police Department detective said Friday that Californians were sold a "bag of goods" on bail reform as thefts surge in cities across the state. "I blame the [American Civil Liberties Union]. I think they sold everybody a bag of goods with this zero bail policy as we see. Our chief came out yesterday and said that 14 of these people that were arrested did not stay in jail. They got released and some of them were arrested and out on release from a prior smash and grab robbery," LAPD detective Jamie McBride told "Fox & Friends." CALIFORNIA’S ZERO-BAIL POLICY SETS FREE 14 SMASH-GRAB ROBBERY SUSPECTS, LAPD CHIEF SAYS McBride, director of the L.A. Police Protective League, said there are no ramifications for the rash of thefts in California. "Most people's holidays start in December. Here in California and especially Los Angeles, it’s every day. It’s Christmas every day here for the criminals. Why wait until the holidays? You can go out and get whatever you want any time you want and there are no ramifications." FILE...

Getty All across the United States, friends and families are gathering to watch the parade and football, dine on turkey and pumpkin pie and generally give thanks. Every November, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of the month. This year, the holiday falls on November 25, 2021. According to History.com, a presidential proclamation from Abraham Lincoln made it a national holiday in 1863. While it was originally celebrated on the last Thursday of the month, Franklin D. Roosevelt made the controversial choice to move it up a week in 1939 to “spur retail sales.” After opposition, he signed a bill in 1941 moving it to the fourth Thursday of the month. Many businesses and financial institutions observe the holiday, closing their stores and halting their services to give employees a chance to appropriately commemorate and celebrate. Among them is the United States Postal Service. The United States Postal Service’s website lists Thanksgiving as one of its 10 observed holidays, meaning all offices will be closed. Other observed holidays are New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday,...

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — A Hibbing man was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without parole for the shooting death of another man on Christmas Day 2018. A judge found Jerome Spann, 32, guilty of murder and assault following a court trial in August. Prosecutors say Spann exited an SUV and fired into a group of people standing outside a residence in Hibbing. A man with whom Spann had a dispute, 34-year-old Jeryel McBeth, was shot three times and died at a Hibbing hospital. Spann continued to fire another four or five rounds and wounded 25-year-old Jamien Stuckey. A Hibbing police officer testified to a grand jury that he had responded to Spann’s residence a day before the killing after the defendant called 911 to report McBeth “banging on his door and threatening to assault him.” (© Copyright 2021 The Associated Press. Brooks Jr., who has an extensive criminal record – was released on $1000 bond days prior to when he allegedly plowed an SUV into crowds of people. In a tweet on Monday morning, AOC shared a letter that she penned with Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Rep. APPARENTLY, the Queen weighs her guests before and after the royal lunch on Christmas Day. CAN YOU IMAGINE? 2The Queen apparently weighs her festive guests pre and post their Christmas lunch feastCredit: AFP The practice dates back to the early 1900s. King Edward VII would make his festive visitors stand on the scales to make sure they had been suitably wined and dined. As someone who treats Christmas Day-eating like a sport, who merrily polishes off the runt of the Celebrations tin (Bounties), and who was once caught on camera stooping to eat a sprout off the floor, the notion of discovering that I have put on 6lb in six hours is nothing short of monstrous. As if Christmas at the Queen's Norfolk estate Sandringham didn't sound daunting enough, there's also a VERY odd tradition every member of the Royal Family has to follow. In 2018, royal expert Ingrid Seward Ingrid told Grazia that The Queen asks each of her guests - including Kate Middleton and Prince William - to "weigh themselves" when they arrive using a set of antique scales....

ALTHOUGH many expect only the most extravagant fine-dining to take place in Sandringham with British monarchs this year, a former chef reveals that the royal Christmas lunch is very traditional. Share this: ON THIS DAY IN 1911, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported, “Several divisions of sweepers of the Department of Street Cleaning joined the striking drivers this afternoon. Heads of the union said that hundreds had gone out in the downtown sections of Manhattan, that sweepers all over the city were refusing to help the strike-breakers and that the entire force of 3,500 sweepers would be out by tonight. That was the statement made by George Prescott, secretary-treasurer and business agent of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Prescott declared that should it become necessary, the drivers on all classes of vehicles might be called out. He said that he thought the men now out could handle the situation without any extra help, that they didn’t want physical help so much as they want financial assistance, and that the policy of the union leaders would be to ‘pull from their jobs’ as few men as possible. Jacinda Ardern's government is holding true to its reopening plans as New Zealand continues to notch unwelcome COVID-19 benchmarks. Last week, New Zealand reported more than 1,000 cases of COVID-19; a seventh of its total infections through the entire pandemic. There were also two deaths, both people with the virus who were isolating at home. On Monday, health officials also reported the death of a recent arrival in a quarantine hotel, taking NZ's COVID-19 toll to 32. Saturday's highwater mark of 206 cases brought a worrying record hospitalisation count of 74 on Sunday, and there is no indication either figure will drop soon. The outbreak remains centred on Auckland, producing over 90 per cent of daily cases, which will enter a 13th week of lockdown this week. New Zealand has hit 90% first dose vaccine (above, vaccination centre in Otara, Auckland)  New Zealand has mandated vaccines in all workers who have close contact with their customers, including those at restaurants, bars, gyms and hair salons (above) This week, despite the roaring case numbers, Aucklanders are set for new freedoms. IT'S feared loved ones could be stopped from meeting AGAIN this Christmas after reports ministers are discussing emergency Covid plans. Households would be banned from mixing under the 'Plan C' guidance, reportedly being considered if the Plan B back-up fails. 4It's feared loved ones could be stopped from meeting AGAIN this Christmas 4Sajid Javid gives a press conference on the Covid crisis yesterday 4The Health Secretary wants Brits' to wear masks in enclosed spacesCredit: PA:Press Association The proposals, which one minister denied this morning, would see facemasks, orders to work from home and vaccine passports enforced. It's not clear how bad infection rates would have to be before launching the crackdown, but if the rules are brought in over the festive period, Christmas could be effected for the second year in a row. Yesterday, Health Secretary Sajid Javid warned cases could reach 100,000 a day this winter and urged people to take precautions against the virus. He maintained that Plan B contingency measures won't happen "at this point" - but begged Brits not to "blow it". The so-called Plan B...
A toy executive is calling out President Biden for not doing enough to address the global supply chain crisis crippling U.S. ports ahead of the holiday shopping season. MGA Entertainment CEO Isaac Larian joined "America's Newsroom" Thursday after the president announced Wednesday more U.S. ports will be working 24 hours a day and seven days a week to address the bottlenecks in the system. "Whether the ports are open 24 hours a day or 48 hours a day, you cannot get labor," Larian said. "If you cannot get labor, you cannot get trucks, you cannot get the merchandise out." "I think this directive is too little, too late. And frankly, it's a political gimmick to me." During a press briefing on Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the White House "cannot guarantee" that Christmas presents will arrive on time.  "We are not the Postal Service, UPS or FedEx. We cannot guarantee," Psaki said. "What we can do is use every lever at the federal government’s disposal to reduce delays, to ensure we are addressing bottlenecks in the system, including...
U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan is dredging up Republicans' annual false claims of a "war on Christmas" by Democrats. The Ohio GOP Congressman was quickly mocked for his efforts – including by some reminding him of his alleged role in enabling a sexual predator while he served as an assistant coach for Ohio State's wrestling team. Others suggested the January 6 Committee may be investigating him, and some pointed to his poor legislative record. "Democrats 'canceled' Columbus Day," Jordan tweeted Wednesday. "How long until they do the same for Christmas?" For nearly three decades there has a growing movement to replace Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples' Day, which this year was a federal holiday thanks to President Joe Biden. The movement is in response to the violent atrocities Columbus committed against native peoples and the false claims that he "discovered America" and proved the earth is not flat. Dr. Anthony Fauci on Monday sought to clarify remarks he made over the weekend that it was "too soon" for families to consider gathering in person to celebrate Christmas. Appearing on CNN, Fauci claimed the comments he made on CBS's "Face the Nation" were "taken completely out of context," and that he never intended to convey that people couldn't spend Christmas with their families.  "It is just too soon to tell," Fauci told CBS anchor Margaret Brennan on Sunday when she asked if people could gather. "We have to concentrate on continuing to get those numbers down and not try to jump ahead by weeks or months and say what we’re going to do at a particular time." FAUCI CLAMMED FOR CLAIMING IT'S ‘TOO SOON’ TO CONSIDER CHRISTMAS GATHERINGS Fauci, who was heavily criticized for the remarks, told CNN's Kate Bolduan that people, especially those who are vaccinated against the coronavirus, could plan to have a "good, normal Christmas" with their families. "I also said something over the weekend that was taken completely out of context. I was asked what...
