The Crown Prince of Japan has revealed he made the decision his daughter Princess Mako should not have any traditional wedding rites because of the scandal surrounding her new husband's finances.  Mako, eldest daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and niece of reigning Emperor Naruhito, gave up her royal title to marry 'commoner' Kei Komuro last month in a small civil ceremony without any of the traditional Shinto rituals.  The couple have since moved to a one-bedroom apartment in New York, where Komuro works as a lawyer.  Crown Prince Fumihito, 56, said in statements published today that he made a 'judgement call' that the day should be held without ceremony due to the public unease around his son-in-law's financial history.   Mako, eldest daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito and niece of reigning Emperor Naruhito, gave up her royal title to marry 'commoner' Kei Komuro last month in a small civil ceremony without any of the traditional Shinto rituals. Vaping damages people's DNA in the same way as smoking normal cigarettes — but to a lesser degree — a study warned today. These biological changes can cause diseases such as cancer, according to the University of Southern California study. Vaping has been viewed as a safer alternative to smoking, with the UK mulling plans to prescribe e-cigarettes to cigarette users to help them quit.  There have been several studies that suggests e-cigarettes are harmful, but many questioned whether smoking was still to blame since most vapers also smoke traditional cigarettes or have a prior history of smoking. But a team of researchers at the University of Southern California found that these biological changes happen even in vapers who've never touched a cigarette. However, the changes are much more extensive in people who smoke tobacco products, the scientists said. Laws restricting what manufacturers are allowed to put in vapes are stricter in the UK than the US, so the American study may not entirely reflect effects of E-cigarettes available on the British market. The study looked at 82 healthy adults split them into three...
As countries around the world look for ways to lessen their carbon footprint, the construction industry is a popular target: buildings generate nearly 40 percent of global CO2 emissions each year, with more than 10 percent of that coming from building materials and construction. Scientists in Germany have developed a way to turn popcorn into an insulation material that's less expensive and more sustainable and environmentally friendly than current options. Good insulation reduces heating costs, which lowers CO2 emissions — but some 90 percent of insulation is made from petroleum-based plastic or mineral fiber. Those non-renewable materials generate carbon during manufacturing and are rarely recycled when a building is torn down, adding to pollution. A research team at the University of Göttingen has unveiled insulation boards made of granulated popcorn that not only trap warmth in, but offer good protection against fire and are also water-repellent.  'This new process, based on that of the plastics industry, enables the cost-effective production of insulation boards at an industrial scale,' lead researcher Alireza Kharazipour, a professor of technical mycology at the university, said in...

ALTHOUGH many expect only the most extravagant fine-dining to take place in Sandringham with British monarchs this year, a former chef reveals that the royal Christmas lunch is very traditional. Darren McGrady who previously worked in the royal kitchens explained how staff are likely to be extremely busy getting Sandringham ready for the festive celebrations. 2The queen doting on her grandsonCredit: AFP Mr McGrady explained that the family usually dine on a big Christmas lunch after the church celebrations. He said they would previously eat “a salad with shrimp or lobster, and a roasted turkey, and all of your traditional side dishes like parsnips, carrots, Brussels sprouts, and Christmas pudding with brandy butter for dessert” reported the Mirror. The former chef also explained that the queen enjoyed a very traditional Turkey dinner, and they do not have ham as he explains the family's festive meal choices are "very boring." "We did three turkeys for the Queen and her family in the royal dining room, one for the children's nursery and then more for the 100 or so staff, so...
VIDEO3:1103:11Trading Nation: Here's who's best positioned to win the EV raceTrading Nation Electric vehicle company Rivian is set to go public Wednesday. This is just the latest entrant in an increasingly crowded market of EV stocks. The field includes first mover Tesla as well as relative upstarts including Nio and Lordstown Motors, and established automakers Ford and General Motors. Gina Sanchez, chief market strategist at Lido Advisors, is sticking with a more traditional name in the EV race.    "We actually like Volkswagen here. Volkswagen is more cheaply priced and still has some very aggressive targets in terms of how much of its auto sales will be fully EV by 2025," Sanchez told CNBC's "Trading Nation" on Tuesday. Volkswagen targets the delivery of 1 million electric vehicles in 2021 with a goal of becoming the "global market leader" in the space by 2025. The automaker owns the Porsche and Audi brands, both of which Sanchez says are "making continued headway." Todd Gordon, founder of Inside Edge Capital Management, is betting on another conventional stock in the auto space – Ford....

Speaking at the AFM opening session, titled “The Independent Film Ecosphere — Present and Future,”veteran sales executive Brian O’Shea, CEO of The Exchange, noted that new streaming technology has “liquidated or completely eradicated a big revenue stream for filmmakers and for distributors and financiers” by wiping out downstream exploitation in traditional home video and television. “AVOD [advertising video on demand] is becoming…basically what basic cable was,” said O’Shea, who noted that the online revolution “becomes opportunity” if producers and financiers can be more closely involved with filmmakers in developing and creating content. “Because as this disruption happens, both historically but also looking forward, the control center comes closer and closer to...
CHICAGO -- The National Museum of Mexican Art's biggest exhibit is always their annual show for Dia de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, and this year's exhibit features one of their largest ever art installations: a memorial for victims of the pandemic."This 'ofrenda' was dedicated to victims of COVID in the U.S. and Mexico," said artist Alejandro Garcia Nelo.Ofrendas, meaning 'offerings,' are traditional altars built to remember and memorialize family members during the holiday.Ofrendas often incorporate marigold flowers, food, photographs and mementos, and they are decorated with two styles of paper art, called 'cartoneria' and 'papel picado.'Cesareo Moreno, the museum's chief curator and visual arts director, called Nelo "a master artist.""(Nelo) uses traditional art forms in very contemporary ways," Moreno said.Along with Nelo's massive installation, the exhibit also features artwork specific to three different states in Mexico, paintings focused on the U.S. Mexican community, and sculptures exploring themes around death. The exhibit can be viewed until December 12.
"Where have all the men gone?" asked Fox News host Laura Ingraham during her Friday opening of "The Ingraham Angle" as recent public attacks against women have exposed the decreasing willingness of men to intervene and offer protection. The phrase "toxic masculinity," Ingraham said was once relegated to women’s studies courses on college campuses but entered the common vernacular only a short time ago. The host noted that the phrase nearly coincided with the American Psychological Association’s warning that "males who are socialized to conform to ‘traditional masculinity ideology’ are often negatively affected in terms of mental and physical health." SUPERMAN COLORIST QUITS OVER COMIC'S EMBRACE OF WOKENESS: ‘TIRED OF THIS S***' "People who work in gender studies programs are dead-set against the old ‘confining’ roles of masculinity," she said concluding that we are in "an upside-down world." Ingraham called out Hollywood’s attempt to target "traditional gender roles" by lumping them in with "anti-bullying" campaigns, calling such attempts "absurd" and noting that "real men" don’t bully, beat their wives, hurt children or animals. The protocol surrounding touching the Royal Family has historically been so strict that a simple breach like a hand on the back, even by a well-meaning dignitary, was enough to spark column inches of outrage.  But today the royals, led by the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, take a more relaxed approach to being touchy-feely in a bid to make themselves look approachable, according to a body language expert.   Camilla, 74, was today photographed with Spice Girl Geri Horner, giving her a hug during a reception at St James' Palace. Yesterday, she was photographed embracing the Prime Minster's wife Carrie Johnson, 33, as the pair hugged and kissed after meeting for a reception at the Wellcome Trust in London. Earlier this week, the royal also greeted Dame Judi Dench with a friendly hand on the shoulder, with the actress reciprocating with a hand on the royal's arm. A similarly familiar approach was taken by Prince William, 39, and Kate Middleton, 39, earlier this month when they hugged Dame Emma Thompson at the Earthshot Awards.   Speaking to FEMAIL,...

40 Song Lyrics Weve All Screwed up Through the Years Cities Americans Are Abandoning Last night was one of the most absurd nights of Division Series baseball that I can remember. The first game of the night, between the Red Sox and Rays at Fenway, ended after 13 innings in a 6–4 Boston win and a 2–1 series lead. The second game of the night—the first playoff game hosted at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago since 2008—featured 15 runs scored across the first four innings. Comedian and HBO host Bill Maher believes that the recent rise in left-wing craziness in America has created a bipartisan audience hungry to see “wokeness” mocked. During an interview on The Joe Scarborough Podcast, Maher said “for the first time” in his life, he is playing for a mixed audience of liberals and conservatives. “I was in Nashville about a month ago, and the audience was about 60-40 liberal to conservative. That never used to happen, never.” Maher attributed the change to the sudden rise in wokeness. “I think it’s because 10 years ago, in my opinion anyway, the left did not have a crazy section,” said Maher. “There was no such thing as woke, and now they do have a crazy section, which I call out as a liberal. I think I’m kind of one of the only people doing that, so there’s a hunger to hear that.” Listen Below: Bill Maher explains why he’s playing to the first “mixed” audiences in his career and how Americans are hungry to hear the “crazy sections” in both parties being called out. Of all the interior design trends to pop up, you'd be forgiven for overlooking cardboard as a textile you'd want in your home. However, a rise in sustainable living coupled with some epic designs has made cardboard furniture a beautiful, yet unsuspecting contender.  While cardboard beds have long since been used for temporary sleeping measures in disaster situations, the public first properly heard about them during the Tokyo Olympics when athletes slept on cardboard beds in a bid to host a more eco-friendly event. Gerald Dissen, CEO of Room In A Box - an interiors company that specialises in producing zero-waste, cardboard furniture explains that a big inspiration for using cardboard as a material was making a lighter option to the, usually bulky, traditional options. Hunters in the Faroe Islands killed the largest ever recorded massacre of dolphins during a traditional hunt, called the “Grindadrap” or “Grind.” They slaughtered 1,428 dolphins, turning the water red with blood and literring the beach with corpses. The practice is protested by animal advocates, but the islanders continue to participate under the guise of tradition and culture preservation. During the traditional hunt, boats herd the marine animals toward the shore where hunters are waiting with all manner of weapons. This time, there were far too many dolphins being pushed to shore and too few hunters. Thus, the killings were even less humane, according to activists. Environmental charity Sea Shepherd, chief operating officer Rob Read, said, “There were too many to kill humanely if that’s even possible. These days it is little more than sport, using tradition as justification, and that’s why we campaign against it.” These traditional hunts can include all kinds of sea creatures, including whales and other kinds of dolphins. Regular limits and bands are not applied as it is considered to be a traditional...

SUZE Orman reckons savers should put "every single cent" in a Roth 401k account. In comparison, with traditional 401k accounts and IRAs, you contribute tax-free but you then pay tax when you withdraw the money. Mrs Orman said: "If your employer offers you a traditional retirement account and a Roth retirement account, you should be putting every single cent into the Roth version of your retirement account. It is a project that I have had (in mind) for more than 30 years. It is not easy to approach this genre because there is so much said, written and composed for this orchestral instrument. Racism is now a form of gold, a high-value precious element desperately hunted by race miners, sometimes called "race-baiters." The discovery of racism greatly enriches the miner. Black Lives Matter founder Patrisse Cullors turned Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and other dead black men into a pot of gold that allowed her to purchase four luxury homes across America. Shaun King, the internet social justice activist known as Martin Luther Cream, tricked Oprah Winfrey into paying for him to attend a historically black university and has spent the past decade raising millions of dollars as a racism speculator. Lawyer Ben Crump is arguably America's richest race miner. He negotiated multimillion-dollar settlements for the families of Saint George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and many other families whose relatives have been killed while resisting arrest. Yesterday, Crump celebrated the fact that Minnesota real estate listings won't be using the phrase "master bedroom" because it painfully reminds black people of slavery. I'm not joking. Crump tweeted: "Words MATTER! Good to see Minnesota phasing out the use of "master bedroom" in...
Shown at the International Contest of the 72nd Locarno Festival and in the Official Section of the 64th edition of the Valladolid Seminci, One of the most exciting social drama titles of 2019, ‘Little Miracles on Peckham St.’, hits theaters., the leap into fiction of the filmmaker tandem formed by Vesela Kazakova and Mina Mileva; who directed two documentaries, ‘Uncle Tony, Three Fools and the Secret Service’ and ‘The Beast is Still Alive’, which caused a great controversy in their native country, Bulgaria, even banning and censoring. This gender change serves as a channel for a new approach to the social denunciation that they carry out through their cinema. ‘Little Miracles on Peckham St.’ -whose original title is more ironic and in tune with the film, ‘Cat in the Wall’ [en español, ‘Un gato en la pared’]- it is a cinematographic exercise that, on the one hand, is a traditional portrait from the London borough of Southwark under the gaze of a Bulgarian immigrant, an architect by profession, who accepts jobs that are below her studies in order to...
Morgan has surprised much of the motoring world. If the British brand is known for something, it is for shaping classic models following a well-known recipe … until today. The manufacturer is diving into new territory, literally with the Morgan Plus Four CX-T: yes, the classic goes off-road with a design thought for a 4×4 use. The Morgan Plus Four CX-T project began to take shape in early 2020 when Andrea Bonomi, one of the brand’s new owners, saw an illustration of a Plus Four in an off-road version. He asked if such a model could work … and you can imagine the rest of the story. The British were immediately excited and outlined a plan: to build a limited run of eight of the off-road version of the Morgan Plus Four. By the way, several of them are already sold even though each copy costs about 235,000 euros. The Mike Jones touch Morgan has enlisted the help of Rally Raid UK, a Huddersfield-based company whose director, Mike Jones, has built sixty vehicles for the Dakar. The starting point...
In this article ETH.CM= CNBC.com's Pippa Stevens brings you the day's top business news headlines. On today's show, CNBC.com's MacKenzie Sigalos reports on ethereum's London hard fork update and what it means for miners. Plus, President Joe Biden announces a new electric vehicle initiative with carmakers, but Tesla is left out of the event. Ethereum just activated a major change called the ‘London hard fork’ — here’s why it’s a big deal Ethereum's much-hyped and somewhat controversial "London" hard fork has just activated. So far, news of the successful upgrade has coincided with a runup in the price of ether, the native token of ethereum's blockchain. The cryptocurrency is at $2,620, up 3.9% in the last 24 hours. A big part of the enthusiasm has to do with the fact that the software upgrade means a few big — and necessary — changes are coming to the code underpinning the world's second-biggest cryptocurrency.  It has always been a tough go for ethereum users. The blockchain has a long-standing problem with scaling, and its highly unpredictable and sometimes exorbitant transaction fees can annoy...
'La bise', the traditional French way of greeting one another with a kiss on each cheek, might not make it in the post-COVID world. The French greeting is a tradition dating back to the Romans, however, despite some going back to using it on a daily basis, others are strongly opposed to the idea of 'la bise' reclaiming its place in the French society. It is an 'exhausting, violent, and intrusive activity that only creates misery,' says Paul Douard, the editor-in-chief of the Vice News France bureau, in an opinion piece. Disgraced former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is bashing immigrants coming to America without entry papers while blaming Democrats for the influx in a racist screed, despite the increase dating back well into the Trump era. Wailing to fellow pro-Trump acolyte Maria Bartiromo on Fox News, Gingrich pushed a horrid far-right fascistic attack, claiming that immigrants are being brought in to "replace" white Americans, who he referred to as "traditional classic Americans." Gingrich also accused Democrats of being "anti-American" and "radical." "They don't come all the way across Mexico for the purpose of visiting for two days," Gingrich cried, as Media Matters reports. Gingrich's wife Ambassador to the Vatican under Donald Trump, the former president. "They want to be in America," he said, ignoring all the reasons immigrants are desperate to leave Central America: drugs, gangs, bad economies, climate change, the coronavirus pandemic, crime, and death. Many of those factors are a direct result of American policies and actions. "And I think what's hard for most of us to accept, is that the anti-American left would love to...
STUDIO CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The opioid epidemic is a huge problem across the country and despite decades of research on effective ways to treat it, overdose deaths are at an all-time high. Most traditional addiction treatment programs work on an abstinence-based model, but the Heavenly Center in Studio City is not traditional."As long as our guests are saving their lives and we're helping, that's all that matters," said co-founder Steve Lobel, a music industry heavyweight who has worked with performers like Nipsey Hussle and Run-DMC.The Heavenly Center is rethinking traditional recovery programs, using holistic options like hyperbaric oxygen therapy, eye movement desensitization and light therapy.Sober studio sessions are often led by co-founder Scott Storch, a talented producer and songwriter, who uses music as a way to heal."Having music be a part of their life and being able to feel the music expressions when they come into this room for this particular part of the recovery, I think it's very helpful," Storch said. What the Heavenly Center does not do is remove residents from the program for using marijuana.Overdose deaths from...
New York (CNN)Restaurant menus got a makeover thanks to Covid: Now, placing your order means simply whipping out your phone and scanning a Quick Response code.QR codes are all the rage now, but the technology behind them is hardly new. They were invented in Japan in the 1990s as a sort of bar code that populates information to digital devices and came to the United States about a decade later. But the technology fell short of projections that it would revolutionize the consumer experience. Now, however, pandemic-related demands have sent the codes' popularity through the roof, becoming another example of how the pandemic has upended all kinds of businesses. The QR code comebackTens of thousands of restaurants closed starting in the spring of 2020, some permanently, in response to Covid-19 restrictions and social distancing guidelines. People everywhere were reluctant to dine out, fearful of contracting the virus.Read MoreMany restaurants found providing menus costly and unsustainable, and some customers were unwilling to touch menus.Which is how QR codes came into the mix."It wasn't that long ago that QR codes were laughably dinosaur technology,"...
For a few weeks in 1992, U.S. politics were all about “family values.” President George H.W. Bush was in electoral trouble because of a weak economy and rising inequality. So his vice president, Dan Quayle, tried to change the subject by attacking Murphy Brown, a character in a TV sitcom, an unmarried woman who chose to have a child. I was reminded of that incident when I read about recent remarks by J.D. Vance, the author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” who is now a Republican Senate candidate in Ohio. Vance noted that some prominent Democrats don’t have children, and he lashed out at the “childless left.” He also praised the policies of Viktor Orban, the leader of Hungary, whose government is subsidizing couples who have children, and asked, “Why can’t we do that here?” As The Washington Post’s Dave Weigel, who was there, pointed out, it was odd that Vance didn’t mention Joe Biden’s newly instituted child tax credit, which will make an enormous difference to many poorer families with children. It was also interesting that he praised Hungary rather than...
There are countless ways to make a hot dog -- apparently, that includes franks that are formed in a flat, round shape.  Recently, "round hot dogs" from meat delivery service Rastelli’s, went viral on social media, leaving numerous Twitter users confused. Unlike traditional hot dogs, Rastelli's round hot dogs are flat, round and fit better on a hamburger bun than a traditional hot dog bun. Many people on social media pointed out that the food innovation is similar to something that already exists: bologna. That sentiment was confirmed by National Hot Dog & Sausage Council President Eric Mittenthal. THIS FOURTH OF JULY ICEBOX CAKE RECIPE IS A REFRESHING DESSERT FOR SUMMER CELEBRATIONS "The hot dog patties are a wonderful sales creation," Mittenthal told Fox News. "It's great that someone has developed a marketing tool for another way to enjoy hot dogs. But the flat hot dogs are also known as bologna." Round hot dogs from meat delivery service Rastelli's recently went viral on social media. Though the food item looks like bologna, Rastelli's told Fox News that its...
