Microgreens—you might find them on a sandwich or in a mysterious pile on the side of your plate at trendy restaurants, seemingly doing nothing more than taking up space or adding a little bulk.  They might seem uninspiring and certainly not filling, but there is a lot more to the mighty little veggies than meets the eye. What Are Microgreens? Microgreens are very young vegetable/herb plants, or seedlings, that have been allowed to grow to between 1-3inches tall before harvesting.  Yes, they are babies, but they mustn’t be confused with the ‘baby kale’ and ‘baby spinach’ you find at the supermarkets.  Microgreens are harvested much earlier than that; often before the plant has grown any of its adult leaves. Similarly, microgreens mustn’t be confused with sprouts which are harvested and eaten even before a leaf has appeared at all. What Are the Health Benefits of Microgreens? Due to their small size, they actually have a more concentrated nutritional density and can be up to 40 times more nutritious than their adult relatives.  Though, this, of course, depends on the...

Right back at ya, Mr. President. As revelers partied outside the White House celebrating Joe Biden’s election win Saturday afternoon, one man tossed a symbolic reminder over the perimeter fence. Wearing a Puerto Rican flag as a cape, the man dramatically threw a pack of paper towels toward the executive mansion. “Never forget,” the man said, according to a Washington Post reporter who posted a video of the scene. The stunt was a reminder of President Trump’s 2017 visit to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico. Standing near a stack of emergency supplies sent to the reeling island, Trump started tossing paper towels at the crowd. While he was widely criticized for the move, which was blasted as insensitive, Trump later said that he was just having some fun with the crowd.

There’s nothing more defeating than finishing a roll and feeling that moment of panic when you realize you have no more. I doubt I’m the only person that continuously forgets to order paper towels, but it’s gotten so bad that I have to order in bulk. I’m talking about a large cardboard box filled with 12 rolls.  Well, instead of continuing to order massive boxes of paper towels that take up valuable cabinet space, I’ve now invested in these Swedish reusable ones. These are sort of a paper towel/sponge/dish towel hybrid. They’re made from cellulose and cotton which allows them to absorb up to 20x their weight, so they become soft when they’re wet. Or, leave them dry and use them to scrub dishes or counters. Each towel can be cleaned by putting them in the dishwasher or even the washing machine and reused up to 50 times before needing to be tossed. And since they come in a 10-pack, that means you’re getting an eco-friendly option to 500 one-use paper towels.  I use them as a classic paper towel...
(CNN) — The paper towel shortage in the United States didn’t stop in the spring. Although finding paper towels for sale hasn’t been quite as difficult as it was when the pandemic first hit the United States, finding them — especially at a normal price — still isn’t always easy. Paper towels have been in and out of stock on Amazon, Costco and local stores. And when paper towels are available, customers can’t always get the brand they want. Part of the reason for the shortage is people keep hoarding them: there was a massive surge in sales of Bounty paper towels in July, Procter & Gamble reported, as customers swept them off store shelves. But the shortage could also have something to do with the way companies produce the paper towels. Lean manufacturing, in which companies make only as much product as they believe customers will buy on a given day — has borne the brunt of the blame for the shortage. Last month, the Wall Street Journal published an article called “Why are there still not enough paper...
