SINGLE taxpayers in one state may be in line to receive a $200 Christmas bonus. The legislation was proposed by Republicans in Illinois' House of Representatives. 1Illinois single filers may receive $200 this holiday season If approved, those single filers making less than $75,000 would receive $200, while joint filers earning less than $150,000 would receive $400, according to WCIA. This could cost the state nearly $1.4billion, Entrepreneur reports. But the state could rely on funds from President Joe Biden's American Rescue Plan to support the bill. "$400 won't make all the problems go away but it could have a positive impact," GOP State Representative Tom Demmer said. "It could be an extra week or two of groceries, it could be a few extra utility bills or it could make the difference between being able to buy new shoes or winter coats for your kids." Additional eligibility details are forthcoming, pending the bill's approval. Illinois joins a handful of other states in working to provide aid to residents during the holiday season. Imagine a mountainous and remote rainforest along the ocean coast. Whisps of fog drift through the trees as cascades of colorful flowers sweep down from plants perched high on the tree limbs. This is the Mata Atlântica or Atlantic Forest of Brazil, a biodiversity hotspot and birthplace of the Christmas cactus or Flor de maio (May flower). In the Southern Hemisphere this plant blooms in May (autumn); in the Northern hemisphere it blooms during the winter holidays, hence its popularity as a Christmas gift. ‘The Real Dirt’ is a column by various local master gardeners who are part of the UC Master Gardeners of Butte County.  Christmas cactus is a general name given to a small group (genus) of cacti called Schlumbergera that are native to the coastal mountains of southeastern Brazil, growing mostly in high altitude, moist forests where conditions are relatively cool, shaded and humid. In the wild, Schlumbergera are either epiphytic or lithophytic, meaning they grow either on moss-covered tree branches or in rock crevices filled with decayed leaves and other vegetation, rather than in the ground....
