Are you ready for the holidays? We’ve been thinking about what we’re going to make since mid-October, and now that November is finally here, it’s crunch time. Planning for the main star of the meal is a task in-and-of-itself that calls for careful planning to ensure that your friends and family are thoroughly impressed. And let’s not forget about the side dishes! Vegetable sides don’t have to be boring dishes of plan veggies that play second fiddle to the more beloved side dishes like sweet potato casserole, scalloped potatoes, or mashed potatoes (the potato love is real). Another beautiful listing by South Bay Realtor Rebecca Jepsen — 974 Camellia Way in West San Jose — is a true gem, lovingly maintained by the same family for many decades. The owners originally bought the four-bedroom, two-bathroom home in 1969. In 2005 they rebuilt it from the ground up, turning it into a modern three-bedroom, two-bathroom showpiece that offers an open floor plan, tall ceilings and a fabulous chef’s kitchen. They added approximately 250 square feet that expanded the primary suite and added a huge walk-in closet. They also renovated the backyard pool, created a large covered patio and added a hot tub. The original model for the Primrose neighborhood features designer finishes throughout the well-appointed living room and a large kitchen with an island/breakfast bar and tons of storage. The backyard oasis can be accessed via French doors leading to the great room, delivering the quintessential indoor-outdoor California lifestyle. It’s less than 30 days until Christmas and Daphne Woolsoncroft has too many holiday murders to fit her programming schedule. Woolsoncroft, who co-hosts the true crime podcast Going West with her partner Heath Merryman, likes to cover grisly cases set during the cheerful season. “We think of the holidays as this cozy time, and when something horrible happens, that makes [a case] more interesting,” Woolsoncroft told The Daily Beast. “It just hits harder, because it is this time of joy.” Last year, the podcast featured the tale of the Martin family, who disappeared in 1958 while shopping for a Christmas tree, and Jonelle Matthews, a 12-year-old Colorado girl who went missing in 1984 after returning home from singing Christmas carols at a nursing home. In 2019, Going West covered the devastating case dubbed the “Covina massacre,” in which a 45-year-old man dressed in a Santa suit killed nine members of his ex-wife’s family during a mass shooting. “With the Beryl Atherton case (a grisly 1950 Massachusetts murder), the setting made the story feel a little more film noir,”...

Photo provided by Shantá Barton-Stubbs. It’s strange enough for a writer to beg people to steal her ideas, but I will top that with a perhaps even more shocking comment: social media is not all bad.  I’m absolutely serious. Thanks to some warmhearted people using Facebook, Twitter, and Amazon as a force for good, 28 kids at a youth center in downtown Orlando will have brand new coats next week. Twenty-eight kids may not seem like a very newsworthy story in a country of more than 300 million, but I was able to use my online networks to amplify a single idea and now I’m hoping to inspire some of you to literally steal my idea and do the same in your own neighborhoods. And while I recognize the many, many, many criticisms of the way Big Tech companies operate, in this instance they provided simple and free tools that I could easily use — and I am more than happy to take advantage of that to help some kids. In 2018 I was introduced to Shantá Barton-Stubbs, the founder...

For Williams-Sonoma and other retailers, that's an opportunity to sell platters, kitchen appliances and more — and nudge people to put those items on their wish lists. Williams-Sonoma, in particular, has been on a tear over the past year as stay-at-home orders turned many Americans into amateur chefs, inspiring them to pick up cooking and baking as hobbies and buy new furniture and decor. NEW YORK -- You can experience a candy dream come true with a life-sized candy cottage in Hulu's new series "Candified: Home for the Holidays.""I always go back to when I was six years old and watched 'Willy Wonka' and everything from there unfolded," said Jackie Sorkin, "Candy Queen."It's a winter wonderland of cotton candy, gummies, sour strips, and marshmallows as the sugar explosion is meticulously designed into a home. There's a gummy bear chandelier, a working sink that provides chocolate milk, and a sugar cube igloo that's filled with marshmallows."We always try to incorporate candy, chocolate, yummy things that our guests can eat," Sorkin said. But most of it is meant to be enjoyed with your eyes. The incredible work doesn't always come easy and Sorkin's real-life staff can bring the drama as they battle over the placement of candies on a desk or the accidental destruction of a penguin that took days to build."Really what everyone sees is this incredible team that for me, I get really emotional, I know it's a business, I know where we are going,...
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Duke Johnson is home for the holidays. And working. For him, it’s the perfect scenario. The veteran running back grew up practically in the shadow of Hard Rock Stadium, attending high school just a few minutes from the Miami Dolphins’ field. It was his home field in college, with the Miami Hurricanes playing there. And he’s hoping to play there again Sunday when his new team — the Dolphins — host the Carolina Panthers. “I ended up home,” Johnson said, “which is definitely the biggest blessing I could have.” Johnson’s Dolphins debut last weekend — four carries, 18 yards in a win over the New York Jets — marked his first playing time in nearly a year. He had a brief stint earlier in the season on Jacksonville’s practice squad, followed by an array of workouts with teams that didn’t generate an opportunity until the Dolphins finally brought him onto their practice squad. They promoted him to the roster for last weekend, and on the fourth-quarter drive that basically ran out the clock and sealed...

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said Tuesday President Biden's statement reassuring Americans that there would be ample food to buy this Thanksgiving represents just how "ridiculous" the country has become under his leadership. Biden earlier Tuesday addressed the surging inflation, telling families that they can "rest easy" knowing that "grocery stores are well-stocked with turkey and everything else you need for Thanksgiving." It's $74.99 or, for those willing to splurge for that special person on their list, $229.99 for an autographed copy."Every photograph has been handpicked by me," the former president says, "and every caption is mine, some in my own handwriting."Michael D'AntonioNow, some of you may be thinking that the price of "Our Journey Together" is a bit steep. But if you are hung up by these facts, you are not thinking about Trump's book in the proper context. For true loyalists, this book is more than photographs sandwiched in a hard cover. New York City's Health Commissioner announced on Monday that all adults are now eligible to get COVID-19 boosters and advised providers not to turn away healthy younger adults who ask for the shots, although CDC and FDA guidelines have not changed. 'Today I'm issuing a Commissioner's Advisory to all health care providers,' Commissioner Dave A. Chokshi tweeted. New York joined California, New Mexico, and Colorado in expanding eligibility requirements to receive a COVID vaccine booster for adults 18 and older as COVID-19 cases are expected to spike ahead of the busy holiday winter season. Per FDA and CDC guidelines, booster shots are currently available for adults 65 and older, adults with a high risk of exposure to Covid, adults with underlying health conditions, and those who got the Johnson & Johnson shot. But that could change as early as next week after Pfizer asked FDA approval of its booster shot for anyone 18 and older and Moderna is expected to do the same....

It is always disappointing when you find what you want online, and the screen says, “Out of Stock.” You’ll be seeing a lot of that as you shop for the holidays this year. Adobe Digital Insights, which tracks e-commerce throughout the year, notes the prevalence of out-of-stock messages was up a whopping 250% in October, when compared to pre-pandemic January 2020, and up 325% from October of 2019. By Adobe’s count, there were more than 2 billion out-of-stock messages displayed to online U.S. consumers in October. NEW YORK (AP) — New York City ushered in the holiday season Saturday with the arrival of a 79-foot (24-meter) Norway spruce that will serve as one of the world’s most famous Christmas trees, in Rockefeller Center. The 12-ton tree was trucked in from the Price family home in Elkton, Maryland — the first time the tree has come from that state since the tradition began eight decades ago. The lighting ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 1. The spruce will be adorned with more than 50,000 multicolored lights and topped with a 900-pound (400-kilogram) star with 70 spikes covered in 3 million crystals. The tree was cut down Thursday and removed by a crane on the Price property. The spruce, about 85 years old, had stood near the family’s house. Devon and Julie Price told NBC’s “Today” that they had worried about it falling down during a storm. “So we’re very excited to have it go to New York City,” Devon Price said. Erik Pauze, Rockefeller Center’s chief gardener, found this year’s tree in March after going to a nursery...

President Joe Biden admitted consumer prices were too high on Wednesday as he toured the Port of Baltimore and set out how his massive spending plans would help drive down inflation. 'Everything from a gallon of gas a loaf of bread costs more and it's worrisome even though wages are going up,' he said. 'We still face challenges, we have to tackle them.'  Hours earlier, a new economic report revealed inflation had hit 6.2 percent - its highest level in 30 years. Some economists have warned that Biden's $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill and an even bigger social spending plan could overheat the economy.  But in a speech delivered as the sun set over the water of the port, he had good news for shoppers saying he had secured agreements from major retailers to keep shelves full over the holiday season.  And he sought to sell his infrastructure plans as a way to ease supply bottlenecks and keep prices down. 'I'm here to talk about one of the most pressing economic concerns of the American people,' he said. 'And it's real. ...

The holiday season could be even merrier. The domestic box office is set to bring in more than $600 million this month, according to Comscore (SCOR), and each week in October had a big film opening, thanks to hits like "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," "No Time to Die," "Halloween Kills," and "Dune."
