For a short week, the lead-up to the Chicago Bears’ game against the Detroit Lions on Thursday has had a whole lot of drama. An injury to rookie quarterback Justin Fields and the return of veteran Andy Dalton as the starter. A report that coach Matt Nagy had been told he will be fired after the Thanksgiving game and Nagy’s subsequent denial. And — oh, yeah — the Bears trying to move past a five-game losing streak after giving up game-winning drives in the last minute of the last two games. Now the Bears face the Lions, whose own ongoing drama is that they haven’t won a game since Dec. 6, 2020. The opponent? The Bears. As Thursday’s kickoff approaches, here’s our snapshot look at the game. Chicago Bears (3-7) at Detroit Lions (0-9-1) Kickoff: 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Ford Field in Detroit. Getty Bears fans have taken their dislike for Bears head coach Matt Nagy to a new level. Chicago Bear coach Matt Nagy may be the most unpopular man in the Windy City right now, but some fans of the team are taking their dislike for the Bears head coach too far. Nagy was in attendance at his son’s Class 6A state semifinal football game on November 20 and was subject to rude chants from fans there. One Twitter user shared a video from the Lake Forest-Cary-Grove game in which fans can be heard chanting “Fire Nagy” in the stands. Nagy’s son plays for Lake Forest, and fans of Cary-Grove were allegedly the ones doing the chanting. Pulled this from NFHS. Was late in 4th quarter. pic.twitter.com/RRQHDV4gOf — Matt Allen (@MattyJamesAllen) November 22, 2021 Nagy has been beyond polarizing, and fans certainly have the right to boo or guffaw or express themselves in innumerable ways where he’s concerned. But to bring that vitriol to his son’s high school football game when he was there to support his kid is...
‘This team is so bad it makes me sick!’ Many of us have said it, few have actually lived it. Saturday night, a Sacramento Kings fan caused a 15-minute game delay for blowing chunks all over the floor from his courtside seat. If we’re guessing which pro franchise is capable of making their fanbase sick, the Sacramento Kings would be near the top of the list. So the Kings vs Jazz had a really long delay because someone threw up on the court. I guess it was a biohazard. #NBA it’s fantastic! pic.twitter.com/TNeUSywwNd — Gieson Cacho (@gcacho) November 21, 2021 The last place team entered the game having dropped seven of their last ten and they continued the losing stretch against the Utah Jazz. Sacramento has not made the playoffs since 2006 – when George W. Bush was still president. After realizing the delay was caused by a fan throwing up, as opposed to the more frequently seen spilt beverage on the floor, players appeared stunned, with Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson popping up in front of a TV...
Minnesota Vikings fans have a true love-hate relationship with Kirk Cousins, but after beating their division rival Green Bay Packers, the quarterback is definitely feeling the love right now. Driving home from the victory, Cousins spotted a fan van decked out in Vikings gear on the highway and the quarterback sped up in his family vehicle to wave hello. It’s not a move Cousins would have made a few weeks ago when the Vikings started the season 1-3 for the second year in a row, but winning can be a great healer. Cousins drove up to the van honking his horn like crazy, vigorously waving and flashing a thumbs up. After throwing for 341 yards and three touchdowns against Green Bay to put Minnesota in playoff position with their current 6-5 record, Vikings fans were undoubtedly ecstatic to see Cousins on the road. Cousins received enthusiastic honks and waves in return and the quarterback proudly shared the cool moment on social media.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Kirk Cousins (@kirkcousins) “This guy...
Almost exactly 17 years after the infamous Malice at the Palace, the Detroit Pistons found themselves in another brawl, this one caused by a vicious LeBron James elbow. James was ejected early in the second half during the Lakers 121-116 in Detroit after a brutally hard foul on Pistons center Isaiah Stewart. The incident occurred as both players jockeyed for the rebound off a free throw attempt as James struck Stewart with a vicious elbow. Stewart immediately dropped to the ground and as soon as he bounced back up, the center displayed a face full of blood and a desperate desire for revenge. The 20-year-old had to be held back on multiple occasions by several players as he repeatedly attempted to fight his way toward the Los Angeles Lakers star. Stewart looked like a defensive end as he dodged and fought his way through obstacles toward James. Ultimately, both players remained separated and were quickly ejected. Stewart was initially called for a loose ball foul on the play, but after officials reviewed the incident, James was handed a flagrant foul...
The Chicago Bears and coach Matt Nagy look to break two losing streaks Sunday when they host the Baltimore Ravens at Soldier Field. Not only have the Bears lost four straight this season, but the team never has won a game coming off a bye week under Nagy. They lost to the Miami Dolphins in overtime in 2018, the New Orleans Saints in 2019 and the Green Bay Packers in 2020 in Nagy’s first three seasons. The Bears haven’t won coming out of their bye week since 2013. The Bears had last week off to reflect on the 29-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers and regroup for the second half of the season. As kickoff against the Ravens approaches, here’s our snapshot look at the game. Chicago Bears (3-6) vs. Baltimore Ravens (6-3) Kickoff: Noon Sunday at Soldier Field. Los Angeles Laker Anthony Davis revealed a hilarious reason as to why he rushed to end overtime: so he could watch a Packers game.  The Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs have been known to trade championships in the past. But on Nov. 14, they were simply trading baskets in a game that led to overtime. On Sunday, Lakers’ star center Anthony Davis was in a rush to finish the 114-106 game that eventually went to Los Angeles. He had a sincere motivation, too: Davis is an avowed cheesehead, and he needed to catch the end of the Packers game. For anyone who watched the Seahawks-Packers game on Sunday afternoon, it was clear that there wasn’t much to watch in a disappointing return for Russell Wilson. But Davis’ die-hard fandom that traverses sports is always fun to watch — especially since Davis is a proud Chicago native.Anthony Davis finishes impressive performance with hilarious motivation: the need to catch a Packers gameDavis was born and raised in Chicago, which has their own NFL franchise, the Chicago Bears. President Joe Biden referred to legendary baseball pitcher Satchel Paige during his Veterans’ Day speech on Thursday referring to him as “the great negro.” “You know, I’ve adopted the attitude of the great negro at the time, pitcher in the negro leagues, went on to become a great pitcher in the pros, in the Major League Baseball after Jackie Robison, his name was Satchel Paige,” Biden said as he began his speech. The president appeared to have stumbled over his rhetoric, retelling a story he has repeated throughout the latter years of his political career about Paige, who pitched a winning game on his 47th birthday. The story goes, as Biden tells it, that the press asked Paige about how he felt pitching a winning game at such an advanced age. Biden quoted Paige saying, “How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?” “I’m 50 years old,” said Biden, before continuing his speech noting “all kidding aside.” Biden also told a version of this story to Pope Francis at the Vatican, comparing the pontiff and...
College basketball tipped off Tuesday night and even though we won’t crown a champion for five more months, we may have already witnessed the shot of the year, courtesy of Wichita State’s Tyson Etienne. Tied with Jacksonville State at 57 and less than 20 seconds left in regulation, the Shockers gave the ball to their best player. Etienne wasted the clock inside of five seconds, before shocking the crowd by taking a 31-footer. The three drained through the basket, leaving just 2.2 seconds left on the clock, leading his team to victory and sending the Wichita State Shockers’ Charles Koch Arena into euphoria. “It didn’t really feel like an out-of-normal shot,” Etienne said after the game. “I was confident I would make it because I’ve made it so many times (in practice).” If a college basketball player took the same shot in the same situation 15 years ago, they’d be in danger of getting benched for the rest of the season. Making the decision to settle for a logo three-pointer with the score tied and 10-seconds remaining on the clock,...

Celebrities Who Manifested Their Dream Roles and Collaborations US Counties With the Smallest Income Gaps In a lot of ways, baseball feels timeless — or, less generously, oblivious to the passage of time. The fields have quirky, city-specific dimensions inspired by the days when a ballpark did not have the cache to overtake whatever was across Lansdowne Street. The managers still wear full uniforms, even though there hasn’t been a player-manager since 1986. The calls are made not into the waiting eye of a TV camera, but emphatically enough that onlookers can pick them up for their scorecards, if they wish. The games, unrestrained by clocks or a TV windows, sprawl out across three or sometimes four hours.  But baseball is also a meticulous record-keeper. It senses every tremor — the sticky stuff season, the juiced ball saga, the Year of the Balk. And it documents lasting shifts. This is why, if you visit the sport’s unofficial contemporary Hall of Records — Baseball-Reference — you’ll find MLB history sliced up into defined eras. Among them, there’s the Live-Ball Era...
In the coming months and years, baseball fans will debate whether Buster Posey belongs in the Hall of Fame. The conversation has already started, with his three World Series championships, seven All-Star nominations, MVP trophy and Rookie of the Year award weighed against his relatively short career. But in those 12 seasons (11 if you eliminate his seven at-bats after debuting in 2009), Posey delivered memories that will last a lifetime for Giants fans. Those are the moments that San Francisco fans are thinking about this week after news broke Wednesday that Posey plans to retire. Here are just a few of the spectacular plays, moments and memories from Posey’s career that helped bring the Giants their first championships since moving to the West Coast. 21-game hit streak As a former top-five pick, the Giants had high expectations for Posey when he arrived for his first full season in San Francisco. He paid off that anticipation in the month of July, when he came within a game of tying Willie McCovey’s rookie Giants record...
Local sports reporter Matt Lively delivered a hilarious play-by-play in the middle of a sideline report as the camera missed an incredible football play that was happening on the field. It was a wild game between the Connally Cadets and the Gatesville Hornets this week that included two onside kick recoveries and an improbable comeback that fell just short in the closing seconds of the game. But viewers of KCEN Sports’ Friday Night Lights high school football program would have to settle for an excited description from Lively during the key moment of that comeback, as the action jumped off during a sideline report recapping the game. As the camera stayed on Lively, he looked over his shoulder and exclaimed “They’re going back to punt, it goes over the punter’s head, this is unbelievable! He’s down, and unbelievable, the Hornets are going to get this ball in their own red zone! I’m freaking out! This game is nuts, it has all the energy! Guys we’re going to have to come back to this one, because it looks like we could...

Once again, Sharks fans will need a subscription to ESPN+ or Hulu if they want to watch their favorite team’s game with the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night. Instead of being televised on NBC Sports California, as are most Sharks games, tonight’s game is the second of seven this season that will be streamed exclusively on ESPN+ and Hulu. Audio of Tuesday’s game can also be streamed on the Sharks’ website and mobile app with longtime play-by-play announcer Dan Rusanowsky on the call. Other Sharks games scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+ and Hulu are the Nov. 30 road game at New Jersey, the Dec. 28 game in Arizona, the Jan. 11 game in Detroit, the March 15 home game vs. Florida, and the...
The best modern movies made in black and white 40 Ways to Save Money Over the Holidays The Astros aren't done yet.  Both in the World Series and in Game 5 in a microcosm, Houston demonstrated its ability to come back. Trailing 4-0 after the first inning, the Astros bounced back to finish the game having scored five unanswered runs to beat Atlanta 9-5, handing the Braves their first loss at home this postseason. The game also ensured that a team that had fallen behind in the series three games to one would have a shot to play two at home. But make no mistake: the Braves still see this as their series to win. They will be handing the ball off to Max Fried in Game 6, who pitched to an impressive 3.04 ERA in 165.2 innings during the regular season. He struggled in his Game 2 start against Houston, however, as he surrendered six runs (all earned) on seven hits and a walk over five innings.  The Astros were originally slated to start Jose Urquidy, but after...

New York (CNN Business)Fire alarms, teasing Tom Brady and flipping the double bird on live television. These are just some of the viral moments from "Monday Night Football with Peyton & Eli." Also known as the "Manning Cast" — as in the brothers and former NFL quarterbacks — it feels more like a talk show than an NFL broadcast. And that's exactly the point. The variety-show-like feel — which sees Eli shaking his hips like Shakira to break down a play instead of using just X's and O's — could change how fans watch games while helping draw new viewers to the NFL — already the biggest ratings driver on TV. "This is a way for the league to expand their audience, especially with younger viewers and perhaps people who don't necessarily want to see just three hours of football," Jay Rosenstein, a former VP of programming at CBS Sports, told CNN Business. The World Series is knotted up at 1-1 and the Houston Astros are headed to Atlanta for Games 3, 4 and 5 against the Braves. What should you be watching? The Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros are tied at one game apiece. Each team is operating with tired pitching staffs and are both without their aces for the remainder of the World Series as it shifts to Atlanta for three games. What will I be watching in Games 3-5? What are the keys to the series now that it’s in Atlanta? Who do I think wins? Let’s discuss. What I’ll follow closely as the World Series moves to AtlantaBraves: How Atlanta overcomes the loss of Charlie Morton, who is out for the season after breaking his right leg in Game 1 of the World Series. Baldwin shooting highlights risks of rushed film production Asian markets slip despite signs of optimism on global economy The Braves have commanded the postseason at Truist Field. They are a perfect 5-0 at home in 2021 and they went 4-0 at home in the 2020 playoffs. Now, the Astros will have to try to puncture that perfect record as the next three games held in Atlanta could deliver the Braves a World Series title in a sweep. And it starts with Game 3 on Friday. The Braves and Astros traded big wins in Games 1 and 2 as the Braves ran out to five unanswered runs in the first game of the series to take a 1-0 lead before the Astros outscored the Braves 5-1 in the first three innings in the second game to ultimately win 7-2 and tie the series. It will be a matchup of standout rookies in Game 3, with Houston turning to Luis Garcia and the Braves going with Ian Anderson. U.S. and Europe dismantle international dark web drug operation, arrest 150 Democrats’ plan may raise childcare costs for some middle-class families The World Series is finally here. MLB's first full season since 2019 is down to just two teams left in pursuit of the title: the Braves and the Astros. The Braves have not won the World Series since 1995, while the Astros last won in 2017. Each team will turn to starters that have been reliable arms for the teams so far in the postseason. Charlie Morton gets the nod for the Braves, as he comes in with a 3.77 ERA across 14.1 innings of work. Morton has allowed 10 hits — two homers — and eight walks, and added 19 strikeouts to his postseason line. Morton's most recent start, which came against the Dodgers in Game 3, saw him pitch around some issues with walks as he issued six free passes in five innings, but he limited Los Angeles to two runs on three hits and struck out five. ESPN 104.5 radio hosts Charles Hanagriff and Richard Condon lost their minds on the air after LSU lost to Ole Miss this past Saturday. The LSU Tigers are going through some things. Things only got worse this past Saturday, as they fell to the Ole Miss Rebels 31-17. After the Buffalo Bills lost their Monday Night Football matchup against the Tennessee Titans on a controversial coaching decision, Fox Sports host Chris Broussard thought he had the perfect hot take. With seconds left in the game, the Bills bypassed a possible chip shot game-tying field goal and instead attempted to convert on fourth and short. Bills quarterback Josh Allen dove forward for the quarterback sneak, but he slipped and the play was quickly stuffed by Tennessee, ending the game in regulation. Tuesday morning on First Things First, Broussard managed to come up with what he considered obvious analysis, yet shockingly, no other analyst had the gall to utter it. “Yes Josh Allen slipped, but it got blown up on the left side because of the pressure by Tennessee. I wonder why? Could it be because Buffalo’s Pro Bowl left tackle Taylor Lewan was injured?” Broussard asked. The Pro Bowl left tackle was injured in the game and carted off the field to be evaluated for a possible concussion. But Lewan’s injury had no impact on Buffalo’s ability to run...

Getty Antonio Brown has a message for Tom Brady. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bringing the NFL’s third-best offense into Lincoln Financial Field for Thursday Night Football. They boast the league’s most powerful passing attack – 1,747 yards, 349.4 per game – while while putting up 33.4 points per game. When Tom Brady is under center, all bets are off. The Eagles know that. Everybody knows that. Perhaps lost in the shuffle is how good the Buccaneers receivers have been this season. Antonio Brown has found the Fountain of Youth, morphing back into Ronald Ocean, after going over 900 career catches. He has 20 receptions for 325 yards and three scores. Brown isn’t even Tampa Bay’s most dangerous weapon. That moniker goes to Mike Evans. The three-time Pro Bowler leads the team with 29 catches for 393 yards and four touchdowns. Chris Godwin is their speed threat: 29 grabs for 366 yards and two scores. Scotty Miller is a matchup nightmare in the slot. Luckily for the Philly defense, Rob Gronkowski is sidelined with a rib injury. Brady...
Texas A&M stunned the world by upsetting their SEC rival Alabama Saturday night, and being live on-air wasn’t going to stop one local meteorologist from sharing her disbelief. Returning from a commercial break on WQAD News 8, proud Texas A&M grad Effrage Davis was hesitant to give her scheduled update as she was intently focused on the Aggies game vs Alabama. “We’re tied right now,” Davis said, briefly turning her weather intro into a sports segment. “It’s 38-38. We have the ball. It’s like 1:26 left. We just need to eat the time and get into field goal range, kick a field goal, and then we would win. It would be the first time we beat Alabama since Johnny Manziel.” After some convincing from her WQAD colleague, Davis gave the Quad Cities weather report while keeping one eye glued to the game. Just as the meteorologist was finishing her update, 18-point underdog Texas A&M kicked a game-winning field goal to beat Bama and Davis let everyone watching know the upset was complete. “While we’re getting a lot...
It’s October again, and in what is becoming a common postseason occurrence in Major League Baseball, the Houston Astros stand accused of cheating. The Astros were discovered to have used in-stadium cameras to facilitate a highly complex sign-stealing scheme that they used for at least the 2017 season and part of the 2018 season, including their World Series run. Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants fans despise Angel Hernandez behind the plate. While Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants fans agree on basically nothing, only two things unite them: California is awesome and Angel Hernandez is doing his very best to ruin their NLDS behind the plate. Given how rare it is to see these rivals meet in October, Hernandez decided to make it about himself behind the plate. He called a Julio Urias fastball that was about a foot off the plate strike three to Giants first baseman Darin Ruf. It was unbelievable, only to the point in which you realize Hernandez was calling the game. Not even Joe West or C.B. Bucknor would call this strike three. It was so bad and we have the visual evidence to prove how bad it was. Oklahoma football fans rushed the field at the Cotton Bowl after the Sooners completed their comeback to beat Texas as time nearly expired. Down 28-7, it seemed like Oklahoma Sooners were destined to be humiliated by the Texas Longhorns. Boy, how things can change quickly. After the benching of Spencer Rattler for Caleb Williams, a historic comeback, and a walk-off touchdown run by Kennedy Brooks, it was the Sooners who got the last laugh in a 54-48 victory. Needless to say, the Sooner fans were so excited that they stormed the field after winning the annual Red River showdown. As the Florida Gators headed into halftime against Vanderbilt, Dan Mullen didn’t seem to want to do an interview with Taylor Davis. The Florida Gators held a sizable lead over the visiting Vanderbilt Commodores at halftime, but that wasn’t good enough for Dan Mullen. Despite the fact that UF was up 21-0 at home, Mullen sure seemed curt and abrupt in his halftime interview. When asked by Taylor Davis, the sideline reporter for the game, about what his message was to Florida’s quarterbacks, Mullen’s response was short and it was anything but sweet. “Yeah, play better,” Mullen stated. Davis then pivoted and asked the Florida head coach about his thoughts on his team’s defense and how the Gators were keeping Vanderbilt from scoring. “Okay, fair enough. Vanderbilt, almost 50 plays of offense but no points. How would you assess your first half defensively?” Davis asked. Unsurprisingly, Mullen’s second answer was also brief. “Awful,” he responded. The Texas-Oklahoma football game was disrupted momentarily when a fox rushed the field and scampered through the endzone. The Red River Showdown is one of the most iconic rivalries in college sports. The spectacle of the Cotton Bowl split evenly in two between burnt orange and crimson is immense. Kentucky fans who stormed the field when they upset Florida were joined by Waka Flocka, who was on hand for the huge victory. The most memorable home run hit at Nationals Park this year may not have come from a National. Instead, it may have come from an elected Republican representative. Rep. Rep. Greg Steube literally knocked one out of the park at the Congressional Baseball Game on Wednesday. The Florida Republican's slam, which hit the bleachers two rows back, was the first out-of-the-park homer at a Congressional Baseball Game in over 40 years, the last time being when former Rep. Ron Paul did so in 1979. Steube, an Iraq War veteran , is the first congressman to hit the ball out of a Major League Baseball park, as the annual game wasn’t held at Nationals Park, home of the Washington Nationals baseball team, until 2009.
