Kenny Pickett made a brilliant play that caught the Wake Forest Demon Deacons off guard and ended up as a touchdown for the Pittsburgh Panthers. Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback Kenny Pickett found a way to score a touchdown on a scramble, taking advantage of a brilliant fake slide in the process. In the first quarter of the ACC Championship game, Pickett was pressured by Wake Forest’s pass rush, but was able to escape and scramble out of the pocket. While he was scooting downfield, Pickett faked a slide, which caused Wake Forest’s defense to pause (because of the rule that protects the quarterback), which gave Pickett a window to keep on scooting. Of course, the run ended up being a touchdown. JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Tyler Riddell found Nate Adkins on a crossing route in the back of the end zone for a 2-point conversion with 35 seconds to play to give seventh-seeded East Tennessee State a shocking 32-31 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday in the second round of the FCS playoffs. Riddell threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Will Huzzie with 1:28 to play and Tim Stayskal recovered an onside kick on the Kennesaw 48. It took the Buccaneers 5 plays to score; a 4-yard pass from Riddell to Quay Holmes. ETSU coach Randy Sanders didn’t hesitate in the decision to go for the win. The Buccaneers (11-1) face second-seeded North Dakota State in the quarterfinals next weekend. Riddell was 22 of 35 for 238 yards and three touchdowns. Holmes had seven receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns and the Southern Conference Offensive MVP ran 13 times for 87 yards with a touchdown. GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The NFC North-leading Green Bay Packers would love to showcase how good they can be when all their top players are available and healthy. Whether they’ll actually get that opportunity remains uncertain. Green Bay (9-3) enters its long-awaited bye week with a 3½-game lead in its division and trailing only the Arizona Cardinals (9-2) in the race for the NFC’s top seed. The Packers would own the tiebreaker advantage because they won 24-21 at Arizona on Oct. 28. They’re hoping this week off gives their long list of injured players a chance to recover. “I was talking to (linebacker) De’Vondre Campbell right before I came in here and he was like, ‘We just played 12 games straight. That’s like playing a whole college football season without one bye.’” running back A.J. Dillon said after a 36-28 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. “So I think a lot of people could use the rest and time to refresh and come back and be refueled and recharged.” The Packers aren’t far off the pace they...
HOUSTON — It was the definition of a team win for Gang Green. The offense was balanced, and the defense played lights out and the end result was a 21-14 win over the lousy Houston Texans. Zach Wilson had a pedestrian day in his return to action as he went 14-for-24 for 145 yards with a rushing touchdown and an interception. Wilson wasn’t happy with his performance but elated for the victory. “Feels really good,” Wilson said. “I wasn’t happy with how I performed. Just the ups and downs of it all. I gotta just keep going, it’s all part of the process. it feels really good to go home having a win. That’s the goal, to win the game.” It was Wilson’s first game in a month, but the former BYU quarterback refused to blame his lackluster play on rust. “I don’t blame anything on that,” Wilson said. “There’s no excuses. You got to really come out and play well.” Late in the fourth quarter, Wilson appeared to tweak his knee on a scramble...
HOUSTON — It was the definition of a team win for Gang Green. The offense was balanced, and the defense played lights out and the end result was a 21-14 win over the Houston Texans. Zach Wilson had a pedestrian day in his return to action as he went 14-for-24 for 145 yards with a rushing touchdown and an interception. But the run game was dominant and put up 157 yards of offense. The Jets averaged 4.6 yards per carry, led by Tevin Coleman who ran for 67 yards. Austin Walter scored a touchdown. The defense held the Texans to 202 yards and 14 points. Bryce Hall sealed the victory with a pass breakup on 4th-and-2 with two minutes remaining. A total difference compared to what the defense showed in the previous five games. It was needed as the rookie quarterback shook off the rust from missing four games with a sprained knee. And out the gate, Wilson struggled. He looked jittery in the pocket, was inaccurate on a few of his throws that resulted in...

Oklahoma State football seek their first win against rival Oklahoma since 2015 when the two Big 12 teams meet in Bedlam on Saturday in Stillwater. The Oklahoma State Cowboys, historically, don’t really do well whenever they face the Oklahoma Sooners on the gridiron. While Bedlam is a rivalry many college football fans try to watch on an annual basis, it’s one of the most lopsided rivalries this sport has to offer. The Cowboys don’t fare well against Oklahoma and the Sooners sure have controlled the recent meetings with Oklahoma State. Oklahoma has managed to win 17 meetings dating back to 2000 while Oklahoma State has won just four. The Sooners are currently on a six-game winning streak over the Cowboys after having won every meeting since 2015.Bedlam history: When did Oklahoma State last beat Oklahoma?Oklahoma State’s last win over their rival came in 2014. During that 2014 contest, early on it appeared as if the Sooners would just run away with the win. Oklahoma jumped out to a 28-14 lead at halftime as Oklahoma’s offense appeared borderline unstoppable for Oklahoma...

Getty Jermar Jefferson reacts during a 2021 game with the Lions vs. Pittsburgh. The Detroit Lions were coming out of the bye decently healthy except for at the spot of running back, which led a surprise contributor to be activated in Jermar Jefferson for this week. Jefferson was filling in for the injured Jamaal Williams, and was coming off the first touchdown of his career in Week 8. The runner got some time early in Week 10 and looked to be feeling just as good, piling up 41 yards on 3 carries for 1 touchdown. On the scoring play, though, Jefferson got hurt and was quickly on the injury report. The latest Lions news straight to your inbox! Join the Heavy on Lions newsletter here! Join Heavy on Lions! DANVILLE — For all the explosive plays California High produced Friday night against host Monte Vista, it was the Grizzlies defense that turned the game in their favor in the second half of a 48-21 win in the first round of the North Coast Section Open/Division 1 opener. California, the fifth seed, produced nearly 300 yards of offense by halftime but led just 28-21 because the Mustangs were pretty proficient themselves against a team they beat 27-22 on Oct. 22. But Macray Madruga intercepted a pair of passes from Monte Vista quarterback Dyllan Levitt, one which he returned 58 yards for a touchdown and a second that set up a 36-yard scoring strike from Teddy Booras to Josh Shavies. Although the Mustangs (7-3) moved the ball plenty, they were unable to score in the second half as California (8-3) advanced to a second-round game against Clayton Valley. It was the first home loss of the season for Monte Vista. “Our defense made some stops when they needed to,” California coach Danny Calcagno said. “Macray Madruga has...

CONCORD — It was a one-score game as the first half was nearing an end Friday night, seven points separating Clayton Valley from being even with De La Salle. If the Ugly Eagles had made a stop in those waning seconds, maybe it would have made a difference in the second half. But Luke Dermon would have none of that. The De La Salle quarterback threw a short touchdown pass to Bryant Meredith with six seconds on the clock to stretch the lead to 14. When the Spartans opened the scored half with two more touchdowns, that was the ballgame. De La Salle won 42-21 on its home field to close the regular season with five consecutive victories. The Spartans improved to 8-2, a resume that is expected to land them the No. 1 seed in the North Coast Section’s new eight-team Open Division/Division I bracket Sunday. Clayton Valley finished 7-3.
