Vice President Kamala Harris ignored a shouted question Jerome Powell after she gave a speech Monday, though her past opposition to the newly-reappointed Federal Reserve chair puts her at odds with the president.  During the Monday event, Harris was highlighting the administration's plan to invest $1.5 billion to address a healthcare worker shortage in underserved communities.  'We remain determined to build a better future. We have an opportunity now to advance health equity,' she said, before turning to leave the room.  As she walked away, a reporter asked the vice president: 'Why is Jerome Powell the right fit to lead the Fed?'  Harris did not turn back, nor answer the question.   'We remain determined to build a better future. The federal judge presiding over Ghislaine Maxwell's sex trafficking trial has questioned whether one of the British socialite's accusers could actually be considered a 'victim' in the case, just days before legal proceedings are set to begin. Prosecutors were presented with a potential legal setback over the weekend after Judge Alison Nathan said she was not satisfied with their letter opposing Maxwell's motion to exclude evidence from 'Minor Victim 3.'   Maxwell appeared at a pretrial hearing in federal court last Monday where Nathan asked prosecutors to explain if one accuser's allegations could be used 'for any legal purpose' in the case.    In a court order filed in New York on Saturday, Nathan wrote that the prosecution's submitted letter did 'not address this issue.'  Ghislaine Maxwell appeared at a pretrial hearing in federal court last Monday (pictured) where Judge Alison Nathan asked prosecutors to explain if one of the British socialite's accusers could be used 'for any legal purpose' in the case In a court order filed in New York on Saturday, Nathan ruled the prosecution's submitted letter 'does not address this...
By The Associated Press Alec Baldwin has spoken publicly for the first time on camera about the cinematographer he fatally shot on the movie set of “Rust,” calling her a friend and saying he is in “constant contact” with her grieving family. “She was my friend,” Baldwin told photographers Saturday on a roadside in Vermont. “We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together and then this horrible event happened.” The video was distributed by TMZ. Investigators believe Baldwin’s gun fired a single live round that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza. Baldwin was joined by his wife, Hilaria, when he spoke to photographers and she filmed the exchange with her smartphone, often trying to get her husband to stop talking. Baldwin said he was speaking out so that the photographers would stop following his family. Baldwin called the shooting incident a “one-in-a-trillion event” and said he had met with Hutchins’ husband. “He is in shock, he has a 9-year-old son. We are in constant contact with him because we are very worried about his...

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Sunday’s broadcast of CNN’s “State of the Union” laughed off a question about whether she would run for reelection in 2022. Pelosi, who is 81-years old, said she would consult with her family on whether she would run again for her congressional seat, which she has held since 1987. Recently Pelosi has refused to answer reporters’ questions on both her future in Congress and if she would seek the Speaker’s position again if Democrats win the majority in the 2022 midterm elections. Anchor Jake Tapper asked, “I do want to ask about your own future in Congress. Are you going to run for reelection?” Pelosi said, “Oh, you think I’m going to make an announcement right here and now?” Tapper said, “Yeah. Why not? While laughing, Pelosi said, “I want to be on many more times.” Tapper said, “You’re going to run for reelection, though, yes?” Pelosi asked, “Why would I tell you that now?” Tapper said, “It’s not just me, it’s the American people, the world. This is an international show.” Pelosi said, “Probably, I would have that...

Boris Johnson suffered a blow today as the Queen complained she still has 'no idea' who is going to turn up to his COP26 summit - with China's Xi Jinping seemingly off the guest list. In a rare public intervention, Her Majesty - who is due to entertain world leaders at the gathering in Glasgow - voiced frustration at the lack of RSVPs just a fortnight before it kicks off.  She said it was 'extraordinary' that she had been 'hearing all about COP' but 'still doesn't know who is coming'.   The comments came as the PM braces for bad news from Beijing over Xi's attendance. Organisers fear a snub could be a precursor to China refusing to set new climate change goals amid the ongoing global energy crisis. Meanwhile, there are doubts about whether other leaders such as Vladimir Putin will make the journey to try to thrash out a new global approach.  Indian prime minister Narendra Modi and Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro have also not committed to being in Glasgow for the event.  US President Joe Biden confirmed only yesterday...
Getty Images Kathy Hilton talks about a potential return to 'RHOBH.' Kathy Hilton made her debut on “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” in 2021, and fans seemed to absolutely love what she brought to the show. Her quirky, funny commentary gave fans something to talk about for days after each episode, and Kathy seemed to be the perfect addition to the cast. As the season has come to a close and fans await the airing of the four-part reunion special, many are wondering if Kathy will be asked to return for the next season of the show — and whether or not she would like to return. Kathy, who met and married real estate salesman Richard Hilton back in 1979, doesn’t need the show for money (she has an estimated net worth of $350 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth), nor does she need the publicity, but it seems like she is genuinely enjoying her time with her sister, Kyle Richards, and the other “Housewives.” In an interview with Kelly Clarkson that aired on September 30, 2021,...
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi snapped at a reporter during a press gaggle at the Capitol on Wednesday after she met with Democratic lawmakers on President Biden's $4 trillion Build Back Better agenda and on the ongoing battle to raise the US debt limit. During the exchange the California Democrat was asked about why her strategy to raise the debt ceiling involved 'twisting the arms of moderates' while Senate Republicans have virtually guaranteed to kill any action on US debt in the upper house.  'What are you talking about?' Pelosi retorted.  'We have a responsibility to uphold, to lift up the full faith and credit of the United States of America. That's what we have to do. These members have all voted for that last week,' Pelosi said, referring to the House passing a measure to suspend the debt ceiling and keep the government open past September 30.   Some moderate Democrats have expressed hesitation at the move, fearful that Republicans will tie it to Biden's spending bill and bill it as Democrats racking up debt to pay for a spending spree. ...

Behar went on to reveal that she does not regret anything she said about Lewinsky amid the scandal that led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton in 1998. “I don’t regret any joke I ever did,” she said. “Because in the moment it was funny and it was relevant — my intention is never to hurt anybody’s feelings, so I’m coming from a pure place with it.” The hosts went on to debate whether or not Lewinsky was a victim throughout her affair with the former president, as well as after the impeachment scandal, given she was shamed by figures in the media. “Did the punishment fit the crime?” Sara Haines asked before answering her own question. “No. She became a pariah....

(Photo by Michelangelo Di Battista/Sony/RCA via Getty Images) James P. Spears, father of Britney Spears, has filed to end her 13 year conservatorship. According to Mr. Spears’ lawyers in a new petition, if Britney “believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance.” In an agreement had already been reached earlier this summer, Mr. Spears was planning to step down from his role as conservator over his daughter. Since 2008, Mr. Spears had control over her finances and a vast majority of her life decisions. The petition filed on Tuesday specifically asks the court to “seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required.” Prior to this newly filed petition, Mr. Spears had expressed strong support for the conservatorship, in which he sought to protect his daughter’s best interest in regards to her mental health struggles. Mr. Spears said his intentions were to ultimately step aside from his role of controlling the finances of his daughter. Last month he said he would do so when there was able to be “an orderly...

The identity of the Capitol Police officer who shot the MAGA rioter on camera on January 6 has remained one of the most closely guarded secrets in America. But I know who it is. I know his name, his age, his rank, his family status and his service record. I know all this because DailyMail.com journalists did their job and found out, as I am sure have journalists from other news organizations. Although I’m equally sure that many prestigious left-leaning news organizations - who ought to know better - have probably not even bothered. Nobody has reported the information yet because there has been enormous pressure put on the media from the Capitol Police and the officer’s legal team not to do so for fear it would endanger his life. That is a perfectly legitimate concern.  It seems increasingly outrageous to me that you, the public, have no idea who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt. Emotions are still running scarily high about what happened that day. But given the scale of global attention this shooting attracted, and the overwhelming...
Gwen Berry, a U.S. hammer thrower and Olympian athlete, responded to widespread criticism she received after making national headlines for protesting during the national anthem at the Olympic trials last month. LET GWEN BERRY REPRESENT A COUNTRY LESS OFFENSIVE THAN THE US “We’ll see,” Berry said on CNN's Don Lemon Tonight on Thursday. “It just depends on how I’m feeling and what I want to do in that moment.” This comes in response to calls for Berry’s removal from the Olympic team after the track and field athlete turned away from the podium as “The Star-Spangled Banner” played during the Olympic qualifier’s ceremony. Berry told host Don Lemon her protest wasn’t an act of disrespect toward the country but rather a visual disagreement of the national anthem’s lyrics. For example, words like “freedom” and “justice” don’t mean the same thing for all Americans, she said. U.S hammer thrower and...

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Monday it was he who suggested Vice President Kamala Harris pinpoint her border visit in El Paso – rather than the Rio Grande Valley border where the lion's share of detentions are occurring. He spoke after a Friday border visit by Harris failed to assuage some critics, who asked why she didn't focus her trip on the areas where childhood arrivals have overwhelmed the federal response.   'It was my recommendation to visit El Paso,' Mayorkas told CBS This Morning on Monday. 'El Paso is actually one of the busiest of the nine sectors across the southwest border and it also provides the opportunity to see the full expanse of our work,' said Mayorkas, who accompanied Harris on the trip.                       by Andrew Trunsky  Arizona Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema reaffirmed her opposition to abolishing the 60-vote Senate filibuster, rebuffing progressives who have decried the legislative rule and called for its removal. Sinema argued that scrapping the Senate rule would erode “democracy’s guardrails,” writing in The Washington Post that doing so would lead the nation to “lose much more than we gain.” “It’s no secret that I oppose eliminating the Senate’s 60-vote threshold,” Sinema wrote. “I held the same view during three terms in the U.S. House, and said the same after I was elected to the Senate in 2018.” “If anyone expected me to reverse my position because my party now controls the Senate, they should know that my approach to legislating in Congress is the same whether in the minority or majority,” she continued. Sinema also argued that the filibuster was essential to ensure moderation and compromise, and a necessary safeguard against wild, sweeping policy by the majority over and objections from the minority. “Would it be good for our country if we [passed the For the People Act], only to see that...

BEING a parent can be challenging at times and there are times that our kids leave us in tears – but the good kind. One mum was left in stitches after cleaning her 7-year-old son’s bedroom and finding a hilarious note under the bed. 3Marisa was casually cleaning her son's bedroom when she found the noteCredit: @marisdv/TikTok Marisa wasn’t met by monsters when she was cleaning under her son’s bed, but instead found a note scrawled with “bad words”. Some of the words were cleaner than others, with “Hell” and “damit” (damn it) written on a wooden puzzle piece. She was also shocked to see that her son had noted other bad words such as “f***” and “s***” scribbled on the note too. The mum was torn over whether the note was hilarious or horrifying. 3Her son's 'bad words' ranged from 'damit' to 'f***'Credit: @marisdv/TikTok She turned the note over to find that her son had forgotten to finish his list, saying: “Wait… farthead.” She captioned the video: “At least he can spell???” Good thing spelling is important. Washington (CNN)Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is "inclined to say yes" as to whether Justice Stephen Breyer should retire from the Supreme Court in the coming weeks so President Joe Biden can nominate a liberal jurist to replace him. "You know, it's something I think about, but I would probably lean towards yes," Ocasio-Cortez told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union" Sunday when asked if Breyer should retire at the end of this Supreme Court term. "I would give more thought to it, but I'm inclined to say yes." Ocasio-Cortez joins at least one other House Democrat who has publicly signaled that they want Breyer to retire so that Biden, with the help of a slim Democratic majority in the Senate, can replace the 82-year-old liberal justice with a younger member. Breyer has previously declined to talk about his retirement prospects. In a speech earlier this year, he warned against proposals to expand the size of the Supreme Court from its current nine members. Asked whether there have been any other financial settlements and nondisclosure agreements of a similar nature, the governor said no. Lujan Grisham's political committee paid at least $62,500 to an attorney for Hallinan. Caitlyn Jenner refused to tell Joy Behar whether she believed former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election. The aspiring Republican California gubernatorial candidate joined Thursday’s broadcast of “The View” on ABC, and she blew off the question entirely. “I’m not going to get into that. That election is over with,” she said. Gavin Newsom and what she viewed as his failures. “I’m the best person for the job. I am a common sense person. I also attract a lot of good for the people of this state. Gavin Newsom has done nothing but do things for special interests,” Jenner said. “That’s why he’s in a recall right now. He’s done such a terrible job. I can come in as a fresh face —” “Caitlyn, you’ve said all that,” Behar interrupted. “Thank you for that. I want to ask you something before we go because we’re out...
White House insiders are 'perplexed' by some of the twists and turns on Kamala Harris' first foreign trip – where the vice president urged migrants not to come, dismissed a border trip as a 'grand gesture,' then said she would make one.  Harris undertook the trip as a demonstration of her new role focusing on the 'root causes' of migration, meeting with the presidents of two countries to discuss poverty, migration, and vaccines.  But she made a series of seemingly conflicting statements about a topic that was certain to surface: her decision not to visit the border at the start of the administration. Administration officials are 'perplexed' at some of the conflicting statements made by Vice President Kamala Harris on her first foreign trip in office By the end of her trip, at a press conference in Mexico City with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Harris said she would go.    'Listen, I've been to the border before and I'll go again,' she said. CNN reported that officials were concerns within the administration that whatever progress Harris had made on the...

Savannah Rychcik May 18, 2021 0 Comments Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is sharing her thoughts on if she would vote for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) for speaker if Republicans win back the House majority. Cheney told Politico she would not back McCarthy, adding, “I think that we’ve got to have leaders who lead based on principle, and that’s not what we’ve seen from him.” House Republicans voted to remove Cheney from her leadership position following her criticism of former President Donald Trump. Earlier this month, McCarthy was caught on a hot mic expressing his frustration with Cheney, as Axios reported. “I think she’s got real problems,” he told Fox News’ Steve Doocey, adding, “I’ve had it with … I’ve had it with her. You know, I’ve lost confidence.” Mary F. Calvert/File Photo/Reuters During a Fox News interview last week, McCarthy voiced his support for efforts to replace Cheney with Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and argued, “We are in one of our biggest battles ever for this nation and the direction, whether this next century will be ours. As conference chair, you have...
House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik criticized her predecessor, Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney, on Sunday, saying “she is looking backwards and Republicans are looking forward.” The New York congresswoman became the third-ranking Republican in the House on Friday after her colleagues selected her to serve as conference chair. With her strident comments against former President Donald Trump, Cheney has become a lightning rod for Republicans who remain loyal to former president. WATCH: “We are unified and we are talking about conservative principles,” Stefanik told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.” “President Trump is an important voice in the Republican Party. We are working as one team … We believe that President Trump’s results — whether it’s the economic growth, whether it was the historic accords in the Middle East, whether it was being tough on China or the bipartisan coronavirus relief packages — these were significant results that helped everyday Americans.” (RELATED: Trump Calls On GOP To Oust Cheney From House Leadership, Put In Stefanik) Stefanik said the issue for Republicans is not just “moving forward” but the need to...
