Jessican Rosenworcel, acting and soon-to-be permanent chair of the Federal Communications Commission. It’s been 10 months since President Joe Biden made a commitment to resurrect net neutrality—the simple idea that the internet should be treated as a utility, and internet service providers should have to treat all data they send fairly—by naming Federal Communication Commission (FCC) member and open internet proponent Jessica Rosenworcel as the acting FCC chair. Unfortunately that’s as far as he went, leaving another commission chair vacant and leaving the FCC deadlocked with two Democratic appointees and two Republicans. That situation was getting a little worrisome as Rosenworcel’s temporary appointment expires at the end of the year, and we could have ended up with a Republican-led FCC by default. Biden finally took care of his part of the job last week by nominating Rosenworcel as permanent chair. He even went one better, nominating long-time consumer advocate Gigi Sohn to the vacant seat on the commission. Sohn has been a net neutrality hero for years, having served as then-FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler’s counselor, a role in which she definitely influenced Wheeler’s eventual decision in 2015 to...

It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen a film based on a true story. The trailer intrigued me, and with the climate in the World today conversations stemming from films like this are needed. I saw BlacKkKsman (directed by Spike Lee – GREAT FILM) in 2018 and found similarities between both films. The plot is similar, we have our lead infiltrate a group. In this film, it is the Black Panthers. Maybe I’m a history buff, but I always seem to be drawn to true-life stories. Especially ones that the effects still resonate today. This film is playing at all local cinemas, as well as, on HBO Max. A note on theaters, NYC is opening up all cinemas in March and rumor has it California is doing the same. We are getting close to new releases, and being able to enjoy films with popcorn in hand like I know everyone misses. Onto the film. We open with B-roll film from “Eyes on the Prize II” featuring an interview with our protagonist Bill O’Neal. We then start to get a...

The Emmys have returned to the entertainment information arena this week by releasing their nominations. Some preselections that, as usual, are above all abundant. The large number of subcategories and technical awards given by the awards offered by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences of the United States makes getting lost among the series with the highest number of nominations is easy, and that the titles with the most mentions are not always the most important. An appreciation problem that this year has spread to all OTT platforms until almost a new chapter of the so-called streaming wars has been signed. HBO has added more nominations this year than Netflix in an edition that for obvious reasons of the pandemic were going to be carried out by the platforms. Both studies had been fighting for years to see who was the brand with the most nominated titles, and this course has been taken by HBO, yes, thanks to a change in the accounting rules. This year the academy has accounted for the channel and the HBO platform together and...
