Fox News’ Neil Cavuto pressed Dr. Anthony Fauci on Friday over his response to migrants infected with Covid-19 crossing the border illegally, prompting Fauci to suggest it was a “moot point.” “We have about 18 percent of the migrant families here, 20 percent of the unaccompanied minors, testing positive for covid,” Cavuto noted in an interview with Fauci. “If you use the figure [of] 20,000, and that’s a loose figure … who have been apprehended, that could be up to 4,000 individuals who have covid. What do we do about that?” “You know, Neil, I — I don’t have an easy answer for that,” Fauci replied. “I mean, obviously, Title 42 is still operable at the border trying to keep people who should not come in into the country. There is testing that is done. I’m certain it’s not as extensive as we would like to see, but I have to admit, Neil, I don’t have an easy answer. That — that’s a very difficult problem.” Title 42 is a federal rule established by President Donald Trump at the outset...

Almost none of the 82,000 people airlifted from Kabul in August were vetted before being admitted to the United States, despite claims to the contrary from the Biden administration, according to a congressional memo summarizing interviews with federal officials who oversaw the effort at domestic and international military bases. Senior officials across the departments of Homeland Security, Defense, State, and Justice described a disastrous screening and vetting process in the memo, drafted by Senate Republicans in late October. The Biden administration failed to vet the information that tens of thousands of Afghans provided through in-person interviews and relied solely on criminal and terrorist databases to flag bad actors, according to the memo — that is, merely screening, rather than vetting, people brought to the U.S. The administration also brought into the U.S. tens of thousands of Afghans who were not qualified. The large majority of people, approximately 75%, evacuated were not American citizens, green card holders, Afghan Special Immigrant Visa holders, or applicants for the visa, three people familiar with the interviews outlined in the memo told the Washington...

PHOENIX (AP) — Far-right social media personality Tim Gionet, who calls himself “Baked Alaska,” has been charged with misdemeanors over allegedly damaging a Hanukkah display in December 2020 outside the Arizona Capitol. Prosecutors declined to provide specifics on the charges, but one of the people who helped organize the display in Wesley Bolin Plaza said a video shows Gionet tearing a sign off from the display that honors the Jewish Festival of Lights. Rabbi Levi Levertov said the sign was of little material value, but that damaging a religious display was disturbing. “It’s an attack on an entire community,” Levertov said. “That’s the way I look at it.” Gionet’s attorney, Zachary Thornley, didn’t immediately return a call Monday seeking comment on behalf of his client. Gionet hasn’t yet entered a plea to the criminal damage and attempted criminal damage charges filed against him earlier this month in Arizona. In unrelated cases, Gionet faces charges over allegedly storming the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot and is awaiting sentencing for misdemeanor convictions arising from an encounter in which authorities...

An Arizona man charged for his role in supplying counterfeit pharmaceutical pills that led to the fatal overdose of rapper Mac Miller in 2018 has pleaded guilty in the case, U.S. prosecutors announced Wednesday. Ryan Reavis, 38, is one of three men charged with providing the drugs that killed the music artist. Reavis pleaded guilty to distributing counterfeit oxycodone pills with fentanyl. He is the second person to enter a guilty plea in the death of Miller, who was found at his Studio City home Sept. 7, 2018. Miller, 26, died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl, along with cocaine and alcohol, according coroner reports. WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Polish authorities said Wednesday that two groups of migrants managed to cross the border from Belarus into Poland but that all the people in the groups were detained. Poland’s Defense Ministry also accused Belarusian forces of firing shots into the air in a border area where migrants have set up a makeshift camp. The ministry posted a video on Twitter with noises of what sounded like shots. It is impossible to independently verify the information due to a state of emergency in Poland that prevents reporters, activists and any other non-residents from entering a zone along the border. The latest developments come amid the most tense period to date after months of heavy migration on Belarus’ borders with Poland, Lithuania, and to a lesser extent, Latvia. The three European Union countries are located on the 27-nation bloc’s eastern border. The European Union has accused the regime of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko of trying to create instability with a new wave of mass migration to the EU. EU leaders allege Belarus is retaliating...

Congressional Republicans say they will fight a White House plan to pay up to $450,000 in reparations to migrants separated from their families under the Trump administration after entering the country illegally. After The Wall Street Journal reported on the plan earlier this week, President Joe Biden called the report "garbage," only to be corrected by his spokesperson the next day. At issue is former President Donald Trump’s policy of prosecuting all adults who entered the country illegally, in accordance with federal immigration law, including those with children. The Biden administration rescinded the policy, along with many other immigration enforcement efforts. The New York Times estimates that roughly 5,500 children were separated from their parents as a result of the policies. The American Civil Liberties Union and other civil rights groups sued on behalf of noncitizens over the policy. In response to the lawsuit, the departments of Justice, Homeland Security, and Health and Human Services are considering paying $450,000 per person to family members who were reportedly separated when they entered the U.S. illegally. Q kills. Facebook is a menace. COVID-19 is a menace. Conservatism is a cesspool. Together, those three ingredients have created a toxic stew of malevolent death and devastation. We can talk about all those things in the abstract, look at the numbers and statistics, and catch the occasional whiff of seditionist right-wing rhetoric. But I hadn’t really fully understood just how horrifying that combination of right-wing extremism, Facebook, and a killer virus was until I became a regular at the Herman Cain Awards subreddit. This series will document some of those stories, so we are aware of what the other side is doing to our country. Today’s cautionary tale chose Q over Fauci. Foreshadowing. A U.S. Marine veteran appeared on Fox News Friday to relay his account of how he stopped armed robbers from knocking off a convenience store, but wandered way off topic at the conclusion of the segment by declaring that Jeffrey Epstein didn’t commit suicide. James Kilcer was at a Chevron convenience store in Yuma, Arizona early Thursday morning when two robbers entered. One of them pointed a gun toward Kilcer and the store clerk and that’s about as far as they got before the vet disarmed him with his bare hands. A third suspect was on the scene but the commotion started before he entered the store. Kilcer was able to detain the person he disarmed, and the other two fled and remain at large. “Once it happened, I was mentally prepared and just made it happen,” Kilcer explained to Dana Perino. “Did what what had to be done.” “Great to meet you,” said Perino, wrapping up the segment. “And if anybody sees James out there, buy him either an energy drink… or a beer if you want one.” “I’ll...

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — A Russian volleyball player who won the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics has accepted a nine-month doping ban for a positive test which was apparently concealed eight years ago, the International Volleyball Federation said Wednesday. The FIVB said Dmitry Musersky signed a “case resolution agreement” accepting the ban and admitting he tested positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine at a Russian competition in 2013. Under the rules in force at the time, he could have faced a two-year ban. The ban is backdated from April and expires Jan. 4. The case was part of a package of database files and samples obtained by the World Anti-Doping Agency from the Moscow anti-doping lab, where WADA found test results were often falsified or never entered the system. Speaking to state news agency RIA Novosti, Musersky said his test result had been “hidden both from me and from WADA.” He said he had not knowingly taken any banned substance and said the “very small” amount of the drug could have entered his system through contaminated food. ___...
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Police have charged a third person with capital murder in the killing of a 13-year-old boy who was hit by a bullet that entered his bedroom as he played on an iPad. Jaden Zaire Jenkins, 19, was arrested Monday in the death of Kei’lan Allen. Tuscaloosa police said. Julian Lamont Gordon, 21, and James Deanthony Reed, 18, were charged previously. Court records weren’t available Tuesday to show whether any of the three had attorneys to speak on their behalf. Allen was in his bedroom playing on an iPad when gunfire erupted outside on Friday, police said. At least one bullet entered the residence and struck the child, killing him. Multiple shell casings were found outside the house. Investigators believe shooters who drove by the home intended to target an older member of Allen’s family but shot the boy instead, said Capt. Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit. Copyright © 2021 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A New Orleans City Council member is facing a drunk driving charge for the third time after an arrest early Monday. News outlets in New Orleans say jail records and a police report show that Jared Brossett, 39, is facing a driving while intoxicated charge after police found him asleep in a vehicle with the engine running. Brossett currently represents a New Orleans City Council district and is running for a citywide “at-large” council seat in November’s election. Brossett was arrested in June of 2020 after he crashed a city-owned SUV. He publicly apologized and entered a diversion program to avoid prosecution in that case. He also entered into a payment plan to reimburse the city for the heavily damaged SUV. In 2006, Brossett faced a DWI charge in Florida. He eventually pleaded no contest to a charge of reckless driving in that case, according to The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate. A message seeking comment from Brossett’s campaign spokesman was not immediately returned Monday. Copyright © 2021 The Associated Press. All rights...

MONTREAL (AP) — Canadiens goaltender Carey Price has voluntarily entered the NHL/NHL Players’ Association joint player assistance program, a stunning announcement Thursday less than a week before the season begins and just three months after he backstopped Montreal to the Stanley Cup Final. The NHLPA said the 34-year-old Price will be away from the team while he takes part in the program. The union did not specify why he entered the program and said it would not provide further comment. The news comes a day after Canadiens coach Dominique Ducharme said it would be unlikely that Price would be ready for the start of the season as he recovered from an unspecified illness. Price is also recovering from offseason surgery to repair a torn meniscus. Montreal opens its Oct. 13 at Toronto. Price was extraordinary in leading the Canadiens on an unexpected run to the Final over the summer, where they lost to Tampa Bay in five games. Copyright © 2021 The Associated Press.
