(CNN)First-team coach Andrew Gale, Director of Cricket Martyn Moxon and all members of Yorkshire County Cricket Club's (YCCC) coaching staff have left, the team announced in a statement on Friday, amid an ongoing racism scandal's fallout.Last month former cricketer Azeem Rafiq spoke to UK lawmakers about his calls for disciplinary action to be taken by YCCC following an investigation that found he had been subjected to racial harassment and bullying.Throughout the hearing, Rafiq shared his experience at Yorkshire and broke down in tears on more than one occasion."From early on there was a lot of "You lot sit over there near the toilets," the word 'P***' was used constantly, no one ever stamped it out," said Rafiq."All I wanted to do was play cricket. Towards the end of my first spell but constantly throughout I knew there was something wrong. I started taking medication for my mental health. It was really tough."Read MoreAsked to compare his treatment at Yorkshire to his everyday life, Rafiq said: "My every day life for as long as I've known has been cricket. It's difficult...

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A judge said Thursday that the balancing of harms in consideration of the public’s health has her leaning toward denying a request by the Los Angeles city firefighters’ union for a preliminary injunction preventing enforcement of a mandate requiring its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 pending resolution of a labor issue, but she took the case under submission. A few days before Thanksgiving, 222 firefighters were sent notices of their non-compliance with the vaccine mandate and were told they had 48 hours to comply. Share this: NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea and First Deputy Commissioner Ben Tucker have put in their retirement papers for the end of the year, multiple news sources reported on Thursday. Shea was appointed as police commissioner by outgoing Mayor Bill de Blasio in November 2019. Both have long records of service with the NYPD, with Tucker’s going back to 1969. While no further information was available on Tuesday, the resignation may be related to Mayor-elect Eric Adams’ statement that he planned to appoint a woman as police commissioner, which would be a first for the city.
Brian Kelly makes it abundantly clear as to why he left Notre Dame for the LSU job. Besides making bank, Brian Kelly left Notre Dame for the LSU gig for one reason only: To win championships. The aftershock is still being felt from Lincoln Riley spurning Oklahoma for USC. A day later, Kelly left an amazing job at Notre Dame for another one at LSU. Kelly has won everywhere he has been, but a national title had evaded him at Notre Dame. For him to have a shot at playing for one, the Irish could not lose a game. Now in the SEC, there is a bit more wiggle room than in South Bend. Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said at a Tuesday press conference that Kelly told him and the team that this leaving for LSU was about taking on a new opportunity. Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick said Brian Kelly "told the team today (decision) was just about another opportunity. It was right time for his family to have another opportunity, another experience. Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly will leave South Bend to coach LSU, Yahoo! Sports has reported. According to sources, Kelly and LSU are expected to finalize a deal by the end of Tuesday. He will succeed Ed Orgeron, who coached his last game with the Tigers on Saturday. Kelly’s decision to leave the program reportedly stunned sources at Notre Dame who spoke with ESPN on Monday. He is currently in his 12th season with the Fighting Irish and his team is sixth in the College Football Playoff rankings with a record of 11-1. The only loss came against Cincinnati, where Kelly coached from 2006 to 2009. The team has an outside chance at cracking the top four to make the playoffs and bid for the national title, but they will need help. Notre Dame has compiled a record of 113-40 under Kelly, but has struggled in major bowl games during his tenure. The Irish have one national title game appearance since Kelly was hired, a 42-14 loss to Alabama in 2013. LSU and Orgeron had agreed in October that...
The Pentagon is planning major infrastructure improvements at military airfields in Guam and Australia to counter China in the Asia-Pacific region but will make no major changes to its other global positions.  The announcement came in the Pentagon’s 2021 Global Posture Review published Monday. The outcome of the study, which began in March at Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's direction, reflects the Biden administration’s increasing concern about China in the Asia-Pacific region and Russia in Europe after its chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in August. Iran presents a further challenge, including in Iraq and Syria, which makes it difficult to allocate more U.S. forces to other parts of the world. FILE: The Pentagon building is seen in Arlington, Virginia, U.S. October 9, 2020.  (Reuters) Despite no major changes to its global positioning of U.S. forces, the Pentagon said it will further analyze force needs in the Middle East and make refinements in Asia and the Pacific, officials said Monday. "Students and supporters rally in support of DACA recipients on the day the Supreme Court hears arguments in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) case on Nov. 12, 2019 in Los Angeles, California." The Biden administration has had its proposed rule strengthening the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program open for public comment for the required 60 days—but now there are just hours left to have your voice heard. Today, Nov. 29, is the final day to note your support for the popular and successful program. Here’s how to do that—and it takes just seconds. For a quick refresher, the Biden administration in late September announced a proposed rule to strengthen DACA, fulfilling a pledge to protect the program as Republican-led litigation against the policy continued. Under the law, the public then has 60 days to submit their comments, which must all be reviewed by the federal government. That period ends today. We need as many comments in support of DACA as possible—and thanks to a tool from immigration reform advocacy group FWD.us and the Home is Here Coalition, it’s easy. As I noted in...

Getty Wide receiver Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers. The San Francisco 49ers have navigated a litany of injury issues this season, but two players who went down Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings are weapons the Niners can ill afford to lose. Niners wide receiver Deebo Samuel suffered an unspecified issue with his groin in the third quarter of a game with the Vikings on November 28. He exited the field following the injury and did not return. San Francisco ultimately won the contest 34-26. Samuel spoke with reporters at the postgame press conference, during which he appeared upbeat and confident — both excellent signs for his Niners teammates and fans of the franchise, alike. His lack of football led to a spell on loan at Besiktas in the 2019/20 campaign. And now speculation has been mounting that he will be on his way again once the January transfer window opens. Elneny is out of contract in June and will be able to leave Arsenal for nothing. That led to reports that the North London side were willing to rip up the ace’s deal early and let him leave for free once the window re-opens.. He had allegedly already agreed a package to join El Ahly in his homeland. Most read in Premier LeagueLive BlogFOOTY...

ANDROID users are being warned to update their phone’s privacy settings after a new update could leave their devices vulnerable. Google released the Android 12 operating system back in October and the company has added new privacy and security additions. 1Android users are urged to actCredit: Getty - Contributor The new Android update has the ability to “hibernate” apps that haven’t been used for a long time and makes location data less precise.  When updating your phone, users should make sure to lock down their privacy settings as Google is known for targeted advertising based on personal data. Much of the privacy information in Android 12 is based on permissions you give the apps on your device. When installing apps, they’ll usually ask for access to your camera, photos, contacts, location, microphone, etc. Some of these need permission for the apps to work but not all of them. An AR app might need to access your camera to be usable but a calendar app doesn’t need permission for anything.  A new privacy dashboard is added in Android 12...

Former Trump campaign advisor Steve Cortes is reportedly leaving his role as prime-time host at Newmax after he refused to comply with the network's vaccine mandate and repeatedly criticized it on social media.   Cortes, who co-hosts Cortes & Pellegrino, a weeknight show with former White House correspondent for One America News Jenn Pellegrino, will be leaving the network in the upcoming days, The Daily Beast reported.  Cortes was hired just six months ago, but sources told the outlet that his relationship with the right-wing network had been largely strained by his relentless comments that the 2020 Presidential election was rigged, and Cortes & Pellegrino's floundering. His refusal to take the vaccine was seemingly the last straw.   The veteran news pundit had voiced on social media his discontent with Newsmax's requirement of proof of vaccination, which followed President Joe Biden's executive order forcing companies with 100 or more employees to obtain proof of vaccination from their workers or subject them to weekly testing and masking.  Cortes, a Trump loyalist, appeared to confirm news that he was leaving Newsmax by tweeting 'Do...
SAN JOSE — The Sharks on Friday night reacted with compassion and encouragement to the announcement that general manager Doug Wilson would be taking a temporary medical leave from the team. Wilson, 64, is at his home and with his family in Scottsdale, Arizona. Doctors have prescribed rest for Wilson, who has been dealing with a persistent cough for at least the last two months and has not been sleeping well. Wilson’s condition is not believed to be COVID-19 related. The Sharks made the announcement Friday afternoon before the team played the Toronto Maple Leafs at SAP Center. San Jose lost the game 4-1 in the fourth and final game of their homestand. Sharks captain Logan Couture did not want to take questions about Wilson, instead, leading his postgame news conference with a brief statement, saying that on behalf of the team, “We respect his privacy. CAIRO (AP) — Thousands of Sudanese took to the streets on Thursday in the capital of Khartoum, renewing their demand for a fully civilian government and denouncing the country’s military rulers who were behind the October coup. The protests came just days after the military signed a new power-sharing deal with the prime minister, after releasing him from house arrest and reinstating him as head of government. The deal came almost a month after the generals orchestrated the takeover that deposed Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and detained dozens of politicians and activists. Hamdok’s reinstatement was the biggest concession made by the military since its Oct. 25 coup but leaves the country’s transition to democracy mired in crisis. Sudan’s key pro-democracy groups and political parties have dismissed the deal as falling short of their demands for a fully civilian rule. Sudan has been struggling with its transition to a democratic government since the military overthrew longtime autocrat Omar al-Bashir in 2019, following a mass uprising against three decades of his rule. Protesters marched Thursday through Khartoum, beating drums...

Getty The Cowboys may be forced to choose between Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard. Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard has been a critical part of the team’s offense, especially as Ezekiel Elliott battles multiple injuries. The buzz around the NFL is that Pollard may eventually be on his way out of Dallas. Pollard’s name came up as ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler attempted to find out the league’s consensus on the best NFL duos at a number of positions, including running back. Here is Fowler briefly explaining the concept of the story. “We polled execs, scouts and coaches around the NFL to attempt to find consensus on the league’s best duos at six key positions: wide receiver, running back, offensive tackle, edge rusher, cornerback and safety,” Fowler noted. “While some results were clear-cut, other positions were incredibly difficult. Injuries leaguewide, of course, didn’t help. Key players in some pairings are out for the season and affected the duo dynamic.” Ultimately, the Browns received the most votes at running back for Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. The Cowboys...

According to popular lore, when the American humorist Mark Twain was asked about rumors that he was gravely ill, he replied, “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” The quote itself is somewhat exaggerated, but the gist remains the same. Matt Nagy didn’t go quite that far Tuesday afternoon, but he did use the word “inaccurate” to describe a report that the Chicago Bears have informed him they will fire him after Thursday’s game against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. The fact the Bears let the Patch.com report by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mark Konkol sit out in the open all morning meant no one felt compelled to rally to Nagy’s defense, whether the report is true or they don’t want to get into the business of commenting on every report that comes along. Getty Daniel Jones #8 of the New York Giants talks with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett before the game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The New York Giants entered Monday night with an opportunity to put themselves in the mix of the NFC wild-card race while simultaneously slaying the juggernauts of the conference. Instead, they were utterly embarrassed on national television. The Giants were vastly overpowered in all facets of the game, specifically offensively, where they were shut out over the final 30 minutes of play in their 30-10 beatdown at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New York’s inept offensive showing, despite having Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney all in the lineup, may have finally pushed head coach Joe Judge towards a breaking point with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. “I’m not going to go into that right now,” Judge said when asked directly by reporters whether Garrett will remain in his position. “I have faith in all the people on our team — players, coaches, everyone. We’ll assess everything as a team and make any...

Consider the turkey. Increasingly, urban and suburban dwellers are getting a closer look at wild turkeys. Nearly hunted to extinction by 1930, wild turkeys are on the rise again, with their population estimated to reach seven million. They’ve been spotted in neighborhoods from California to Connecticut, and even milling around New York City. Having spotted them in my neighborhood, in the Oakland, California hills, I’ve found that turkeys are majestic, inquisitive animals. And it seems that’s not a new observation: none other than Benjamin Franklin referred to them as “respectable” and suggested we make the turkey our national bird. These wild turkeys are fascinating individuals who share similar characteristics with the millions of turkeys who’ll end up on Americans’ tables this Thanksgiving. Both have similar vocalizations, social structures and desire to protect their young. But unlike their wild cousins, virtually all commercially-raised turkeys come from factory farms. These birds are raised packed wing-to-wing inside sheds, a far cry from their natural habitat. They’re not given any outdoor access and are confined in this barren, ammonia-filled environment for the duration of...

Thanksgiving is a time to show off your chef skills, but all that cooking and baking means more risk for kitchen fires. According to DC Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly, nationally, Thanksgiving is a peak date for home cooking fires, with more than three times the daily average for such incidents. Donnelly, speaking at a news conference on holiday safety on Monday, said people need to remember the basics: Never leave food that is cooking unattended. Don’t keep flammable items, such as towels, oven mitts, food packaging and wooden utensils, near a hot stove. Don’t cook while sleepy or otherwise impaired. He also said parents should keep kids at least 3 feet away from the stove or any area where hot food is being handled. If a small grease fire starts, slide a lid over the pan to smother the flame, turn off the burner and leave the pan covered until it completely cools. Donnelly also stressed to never pour water on a grease fire. In case of a larger cooking fire, Donnelly said leave the kitchen,...

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers spent all week hoping Ben Roethlisberger’s bout with COVID-19 would be mild enough to allow him to start on Sunday night in Los Angeles. All that attention, all that concern, might have been a little misplaced. As vital as their veteran quarterback is, the Steelers have become just as reliant on star outside linebacker T.J. Watt and perennial Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. While Roethlisberger felt well enough to take a private plane cross-country to suit up against the Chargers, Watt and Fitzpatrick remained back home, forced to watch a wild 41-37 loss on TV as Pittsburgh had its five-game unbeaten streak come to a screeching halt. Without Watt wreaking havoc coming off the edge and Fitzpatrick keeping watch over the secondary, Los Angeles lit the Steelers (5-4-1) up for 533 yards, the last 53 coming on Justin Herbert’s dart to a wide-open Mike Williams down the left sideline with 2:09 to play that provided the clinching touchdown. “We couldn’t apply pressure with our four-man rush or keep them in the pocket,” coach Mike...
