Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is not expected to return from his ribs injury Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, but one of his fellow rookies could potentially see his first NFL game action. Bears coach Matt Nagy named quarterback Andy Dalton the starter and Nick Foles the backup for the Week 13 game at Soldier Field, saying Fields is making progress but wasn’t ready to be medically cleared to play. Meanwhile, the Bears have cleared rookie offensive tackle Teven Jenkins to be activated 3½ months after he underwent back surgery. Jenkins, the No. 39 draft pick out of Oklahoma State in the spring, returned to practice Nov. 15 and is feeling good, Nagy said. Nagy indicated Jenkins — for now — will be offensive line depth behind veteran left tackle Jason Peters and rookie right tackle Larry Borom, but he also could be used on the field-goal/extra-points team or in special situations. Nagy said a rotation with Borom midseason might be too difficult to execute. “When you draft a guy you’re always anticipating how he’s going...

Jussie Smollett was allegedly seen on video conducting a dry run of his attack the day before it took place, further lending credence to the prosecution’s claims that he orchestrated the whole thing.  During opening arguments on Monday, special prosecutor Dan Webb told the jury that Smollett was upset that a threatening hate letter that was sent to the studio behind "Empire" wasn’t taken seriously enough. As a result, Webb is hoping to convince a jury that the actor hired brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo to attack him.  One potentially damning piece of evidence teased during Webb’s opening arguments was that there is surveillance video showing Smollett and the two siblings, who he worked with on "Empire," doing a kind of "dry run" of the attack in the area the day before it allegedly took place.  The prosecution will allege what the Osundairo brothers have already told investigators, that they were cut a check for $3,500 after the dry run and given $100 in cash to get supplies to stage the attack at Smollett’s behest.  JUSSIE SMOLLETT ARRIVES TO COURT...

Getty Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis. Since taking over as the Las Vegas Raiders‘ interim head coach, Rich Bisaccia has a 3-3 record. The team hasn’t been consistently terrible but also hasn’t been consistently great. If the team finishes with a mediocre 9-8 or 8-9 record, it will be difficult for them to evaluate if Bisaccia should be the head coach going forward. Considering the circumstances the Raiders have faced since he got promoted, a mediocre record isn’t the worst outcome in the world. Bisaccia also isn’t the most exciting coach going forward as his years as a special teams coordinator means he’s not an offensive or defensive guru. Even if the Raiders finish with a strong record, owner Mark Davis could look to make a change and hire an exciting candidate. Britain and France have one point in Group C. Britain plays the pointless Czech Republic, which already lost to France, on Sunday with the chance to seal its spot in the quarterfinals. Sweden was one win away from advancing from Group B after Elias Ymer hit nine aces to beat Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3, 7-6 in the first...
Italy is reopening its slopes to recreational skiers after one season lost and another abbreviated by the pandemic. Here is a glance at how the season is proceeding in Europe’s Alpine nations. ITALY Italy is reopening for the 2021-2022 season after a near-complete closure last season and an early closure in 2020 after Italy became the first country in the West to detect local transmission of the coronavirus. Government regulations require a health pass to access areas with closed lifts, which can be obtained with proof of vaccination, having recovered from the virus or a negative test in the last 24 hours. The new system launches on Saturday in the first two ski areas to open. Glacier skiing opened already earlier in the month, while the ski season in Italy officially opens Dec. 4. ____ SWITZERLAND Switzerland, which kept its ski slopes open last year, is sticking to its plans again this year. The season has started in pockets that have gotten patches of early snowfall, though it’s not expected to switch into full gear before mid-December....
If the Miami Dolphins can get Tua Tagovailoa to consistently play the way he performs this season in the opening drives of games and in the fourth quarter, Miami’s offense, and possibly the season, would take off. While the talent around Miami’s second-year starter hasn’t always allowed Tagovailoa to shine, he’s somehow managed to excel in those two critical and telling areas. And if these trends continue against a stingy Carolina Panthers defense on Sunday, it should serve as proof the Dolphins have a quarterback worth building around. Tagovailoa’s opening drives this season prove that when the Dolphins stick to the script — executing plays they spend all week practicing — they are successful. In week one against the New England Patriots, Tagovailoa was 4-for-4 for 49 passing yards, and he ran it in for a game-opening touchdown. In week two, he got sacked twice on the first drive by the Buffalo Bills, which ended in a punt. The next series he suffered a rib injury that sidelined him for three weeks. When he returned...
more   Two major retailers, Walmart and New Balance, are opening distribution operations in Wilson County according to newly filed public records in the county obtained by Nashville Business Journal. Walmart leased a newly built facility at 1015 Hixson Blvd., at the Highway 109 exit of Interstate 840. The company’s Walmart Fulfillment Services LLC subsidiary signed the lease. Walmart’s sales make it one of the world’s three largest retailers. Atlanta-based Core5 Industrial Partners broke ground on the 925,860-square-foot building in January, marking its first development in Greater Nashville. Walmart’s lease initially lasts about 15 years, with multiple long-term extension options. New Balance, the footwear and apparel brand, signed a lease at Panattoni Development Co.’s Speedway Industrial Park, adjacent to the Nashville Superspeedway race track off of Interstate 840. Public records reviewed by Nashville Business Journal identify a building on Darrell Waltrip Drive that is labeled “Building 8” on marketing materials for the industrial park. Those materials indicate that about 355,500 square feet of the building is leased, leaving another 259,000 square feet available. New Balance’s leases initially last 10.5 years,...

Getty LA Lakers center Dwight Howard reacts after being fouled during a game against the Miami Heat. While his superstar days are long behind him, Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard has carved out a nice niche for himself as a quick-hitting impact player off the bench. Even as the Lake Show has stumbled and bumbled through the early campaign, Howard continues to thrive in small doses. In just 13.4 minutes per contest, Howard is averaging 5.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks+steals. He is also making 67.4% of his field-goal attempts and is 5-for-7 from three-point range in the early campaign. Without his contributions last season, the Sixers may have been unable to hold onto East’s No. 1 seed when Joel Embiid got injured. And Lakers fans know full well how important he was to the team’s title run in the bubble during his previous stay in LA. As Howard sees it, though, his contributions aren’t being properly recognized for what they are. He believes that there’s a bad rap in play that has been following him...
SODA SPRINGS (CBS13) — Two Lake Tahoe ski resorts are opening just in time for the holiday weekend. Boreal says they’ve made enough snow and temperatures have dropped enough so they can get a lift and ski run going again. It will be open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Palisades Tahoe will also partially open on Friday as well. The resort says its crews have laid down enough of a base to open one beginner lift with limited terrain.
PLEASANT HILL (CBS SF) — Nicolas Perry drove into the parking lot of the Pleasant Hill Best Buy store shortly after midnight, fully prepared to spend hours standing in an ever-growing line outside waiting for a 5 a.m. dash inside to take advantage of the Black Friday door-buster deals. But what he found was a nearly empty lot. This year in the San Francisco Bay Area it appears the door opening mob of shoppers were merely a pre-COVID memory. I had blankets in the car, pillows, I had back waiting for the line to start.” By the time Best Buy opened its doors, there were only about three dozen people lined up outside. But for some like Christy Brown, they were ready to get an early start. “I’m going to wake up at 4 a.m., go shopping. Anything that’s open I’m just going to go shopping,”...

WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The California Indian Heritage Center (CIHC) is scheduled to be complete in 2028, decades after the idea to create a statewide space for Indian history, culture, and education was first discussed. The 120,000 sq. ft. space will sit on 51 acres where the Sacramento and American rivers converge and will be a reflection of what California Indians want to see, according to the CIHC Chair Jerry Myers. READ MORE: Colorado Teen Believed To Have Been Abducted By Man With California Ties Found Safe In UtahMyers, a member of the Pomo Nation, has been involved with conversations about a space for all California Indians to be celebrated and remembered for nearly his entire career but efforts really took off, he said, in 2002. That’s when legislation passed to create a task force to identify a location for the CIHC. Once that was done, the task force became the foundation, with the primary purpose, Myers said, of raising money to build the center. “We want their complete involvement in it, and we want it to be a place...
(CNN)Crystal Wahpepah has made it her mission to share her Indigenous community's rarely seen foods with the world.Wahpepah, who is Kickapoo and Sac and Fox, recently opened Wahpepah's Kitchen, the newest Indigenous restaurant in Oakland, California -- and likely the newest in the country."When I was around 6 or 7 years old, I would go pick berries and I would actually see different berries but the kinds you wouldn't see when you're being raised in urban areas," Wahpepah told CNN, adding that she grew up in a family that made traditional and ceremonial Native foods. "That's when I put two and two together. We don't see our foods."Wahpepah knew early that she wanted to open a restaurant, but she needed to figure out a way to present ceremonial foods to the public. She traveled to Oklahoma and asked her elders how to market these traditional foods, and she started catering 12 years ago -- which is when she noticed the lack of Native chefs or restaurants. She developed her brand at La Cocina, a San Francisco organization that offers opportunities...
A steakhouse chain has announced the opening date for its new Long Island location. Fogo De Chão announced that the new restaurant will open in Suffolk County on Monday, Dec. 6. The new Brazilian eatery is located at 160 Walt Whitman Road in Huntington Station. This will be the chain's second location on Long Island, as Fogo De Chão also operates a location in Carle Place.  “As we prepare for the opening, I have found the community of Huntington Station to be very welcoming, similar to the warmness of our Brazilian hospitality,” General Manager Erick Cienfuegos said in a statement. “We’ve been fortunate to be able to bring our experience to New Yorkers for nearly 10 years, and we look forward to soon serving our Brazilian traditions to guests in Huntington Station, as well.”  The company estimated that the new restaurant will bring about 130 jobs to the area.
