A company has recalled more than 234,000 pounds of cooked ham and pepperoni products because they might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Alexander & Hornung notified the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service that product testing reported positive results for the bacteria, according to an announcement from the USDA on Sunday, Dec. 5.  About 234,391 pounds of products are included in the recall. The USDA said the products were produced on various dates, and they have an establishment number of "EST. M10125." They were shipped to retail locations across the country.  Find the labels of the recalled products here. Consumption of foods contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can lead to listeriosis, a serious infection that mainly impacts older adults and those with weakened immune systems, the USDA reported.  There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consumers linked to the recalled products, the USDA said.  The USDA said the products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Gen Z grew up on social media — we've been building our list of friends and followers since we were young. So, for college students who want to try their hand at launching a business, they have a ready-made customer base and marketing platform at their fingertips. Social media platforms recognize that potential and have been rolling out commerce tools. Pinterest and Facebook were among the earliest to launch shopping/marketplace features and Instagram followed a few years later, giving small businesses the opportunity to reach millions — and in some cases billions — of users. This has been a game-changer for start-ups. In August, TikTok announced a partnership with Shopify, where Shopify merchants who have a TikTok for Business account are able to add a shopping tab to their profiles. Reality star Kylie Jenner was among the first users to try the new TikTok shopping feature, using it to market her Kylie Cosmetics beauty products to her 37 million followers.Kylie Jenner attends the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on...

Cannabis shops across the San Francisco Bay Area have been thrown into dire straits as gangs of thieves broke into more than 15 shops throughout November during the series of 'smash-and-grab' robberies plaguing California.  Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong told reporters that 'hundreds' of vehicles targeted marijuana stores in Oakland last month, firing 175 shots and stealing about $5 million worth of products.  Alphonso 'Tucky' Blunt, owner of Blunts and Moore, told MJBizDaily that his store lost about $25,000 during a November 22 raid, where more than a dozen burglars ransacked the store.  'I know 25 or so businesses that got hit … and out of all those, the percentage I know that told me that they may not be able to reopen is about 50 percent. That's scary, Blunt said.  'I was safer, and had more money, (selling) on the street, illegally.' DENVER (CBS4) – Consumers in Colorado and other parts of the country are feeling the effects of supply chain shortages on their wallets. The Federal Trade Commission is ordering large retailers and wholesalers to provide information that will help better understand chain disruptions. (credit: CBS) The orders are being sent to retailers like Walmart, Amazon and Kroger. Other large companies like Procter & Gamble Co., Tyson Foods and Kraft Heinz Co. are also being asked to comply. Companies are asked to detail the main issues disrupting their ability to obtain, transport and distribute products. Mamenta is Denver-based global trade platform that helps brands expand globally. VP of Marketing Cue Orr says they expect the supply chain issues to go on through the next year. “It’s impacting everybody across the board, from cosmetic companies to baby food to electronics, we’ve seen it happen to all of our customers,” said Orr. While people aren’t stockpiling items like they were in March 2020, Orr says many consumers are still buying more than they need just to assure they’ll have enough in the future....
Lovers of corn flakes, rice crispies and other frosted flax had to resign themselves for a few weeks to find another way to lunch. Due to the strike of 1,400 workers at four Kellogg factories in the United States in early October, supermarkets here are finding it difficult to deliver the various products marketed by the American company. Posted on December 3, 2021 at 9:00 AM. Nathaelle Morissette Newspaper However, for those who can not do without the breakfast bowl cereal is a glimmer of hope: the conflict will end on December 5th. A policy-level agreement was reached between the two sides on Wednesday. Workers representing the International Union of Bakery, Snacks, Tobacco and Grinding Workers (BCTM) will go to the polls on Sunday. However, delivery delays can take weeks to resolve. Meanwhile, Franck Henot, co-owner of Intermarché Boyer on Avenue du Mont-Royal, confirms that “there are some products that Kellogg no longer offers”. “Corn flakes, frosted flakes, can no longer be with us,” he said. The grocery store temporarily replaced his cupboards to...
LONDON (AP) — The head of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One racing team apologized Friday for the way the team announced its partnership with a company involved in a London high-rise where a fire killed 72 people. The team announced a sponsorship deal this week allowing building products maker Kingspan to put its logo on the nose cone of world champion Lewis Hamilton’s car beginning with a weekend race in Saudi Arabia. Survivors and family members of the people who died in the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire immediately condemned the deal and asked the team to sever its ties with Kingspan. The fire started in a fourth floor refrigerator and raced up the residential building, which experts said likely was caused by flammable materials used in an exterior renovation. Mercedes-AMG Petronas principal and CEO Toto Wolff said the team “engaged” with Kingspan before the announcement to understand what role the company’s products played in the tragedy. “On behalf of our team, I would sincerely like to apologize to you for the additional hurt that this announcement has caused,’’...

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) — While global supply chain issues are reportedly easing, Florida farmers told lawmakers Thursday that perishable items with short shelf lives continue to struggle in being moved from fields to markets. During a meeting of the Senate Agriculture Committee, growers said the industry faces transportation and labor shortages in getting products out of the ground and to market. They also face increased prices and delays for materials — such as seeds, fertilizers and chemicals — needed to grow crops. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped more than 500 points, the Nasdaq composite was down over 1% and the S&P 500 was down about 1.4% on Tuesday. A company has recalled some of its sliced bread products because they contain an undeclared allergen. Calise & Sons Bakery, Inc. reported that its Italian Scala Bread products produced on Nov. 23 contain sesame seeds, and they were packaged in a bag that says "Golden Flax Seed Scala Bread." The sesame seeds were not declared on the packaging.  The company said 689 of the products were distributed to markets in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.  The recalled products have a white plastic clip closure with a sell-by date of Dec. 6 and a Julian date of 327. "At this moment, we have approximately 100 packages that are unaccounted for," the company reported on Wednesday, Nov. 24. "That number will continue to decline as our route sales team reports back to us. We are working diligently to retrieve all products." Consumers should throw the products away immediately, the company said.
An Israeli startup has accomplished amazing feet by creating 3D cuts of meat to look startlingly similar to real cuts of meat. The Israeli startup has made its 3D cuts of meat available to restaurants in Europe and Israel for the first time. Redefined Meat first started making their special products in 2018, using a 3D process to create realistic vegan meat. The 3D cuts are thick and fibrous, meant to imitate real meat in the look and texture. The meat itself is made from a combination of soy protein, pea protein, chickpeas, beetroot, yeast, and coconut fat. Redefined Meats has been a huge hit in the vegan meat market as it has accomplished the holy grail of vegan products. Being able to create the structure and texture of whole pieces of meat. Its 3D pieces of meat are set to spread across the world to make appearances on restaurant menus in many different locations, from the UK to Germany to other parts of Europe. Eshchar Ben-Shitrit, chief executive and co-founder of Redefine Meat, said, “Most of the...
BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union on Wednesday is set to unveil a multibillion-euro plan aimed at bolstering the 27-nation bloc’s worldwide infrastructure and influence. The program is expected to mobilize up to 300 billion euros ($341 billion) in public and private funds by 2027. Although the European Commission, the EU’s executive branch, does not present the project as an attempt to counter China’s massive infrastructure initiative seeking to connect Asia with Africa and Europe, the German ambassador to the EU said the so-called Global Gateway “has the potential to turn the EU into a more effective geopolitical player.” “For many partner countries, the offer of a rules-and-values-based cooperation at eye level will be an attractive alternative to the Chinese Belt and Road initiative,” Michael Clauß said. China’s program aims to develop markets and new trade routes connecting China with the rest of the world by weaving a network of ports, bridges and power plants that will yield diplomatic clout and global power. Asked whether the 27-nation EU is trying to counter China’s influence with its plan, commission chief spokesman...
An Australian mother who struggled with pigmentation for years was shocked to find a 'secret' skincare product dramatically reduced it in just seven months. Karli Moyler, who lives on the Gold Coast, Queensland, used prescription skincare brand The Secret to help alleviate some of the dark spots and melasma that worsened during her last pregnancy.  'It has changed my life. I wouldn't leave the house without make up, it made me feel so self conscious,' she wrote on Instagram. 'I have two young children so I don't have a lot of time. The fact I can now leave the house with only sunblock on and feel good in my skin feels fabulous. I couldn't be happier with the result.'  Ms Moyer used The Essentials Set, which comes with the Cellular Repair Night Cream, Day Brightening Elixir, Eye Serum and an added Face Serum to acheive her desired results.   The skincare was developed by two female doctors in Perth, Western Australia, and is available by prescription through their website.  Karli Moyler, who lives on the Gold Coast, used prescription skincare brand...
(CBS4) – After hours of debate, the Denver City Council moved forward with a plan to ban a majority of flavored tobacco products. A final vote is planned for next Monday, as business owners worry they’re going to be forced out of business. “They rushed it too much. I understand trying to help our youth, but you have to be very logical or very smart about how you do it in 2021,” said Rashad Kingsley-Shadi, who owns and operates a convenience store on Washington Street near I-70 in Globeville. “You’re probably talking 20 to 25 percent of our income each year will be lost due to this bill.” (credit: CBS) Councilwoman Amanda Sawyer introduced the bill to address the teen vaping epidemic. Critics say eliminating the option for adults to buy products in Denver will do little to address teen vaping. “Preventing me from selling it isn’t going to stop TikTok from selling it,” Kingsley-Shadi said. The city councilors shot down amendments that would have exempted menthol as a flavor, and an option that would have let stand-alone tobacco and...
New York (CNN Business)Dollar Tree is throwing away those green "Everything's $1" signs at stores, ditching the brand identity it created and stuck to devotedly for 35 years. The chain said last week that it will permanently raise prices by 25% on the majority of its products. Dollar Tree has already made the change at some stores and will roll out the new prices to all of its nearly 8,000 US stores by the first quarter of next year. In addition to new signs at stores alerting customers of the change, Dollar Tree will run advertising and train store staff on how to handle customers confused about why prices aren't $1 anymore.Breakfast is going to be more expensive next yearDollar Tree was the last of the major dollar store chains that actually sold stuff for $1 and was defined by its prices. The Arizona Attorney General’s Office has reached a $14.5 million settlement with e-cigarette maker Juul Labs, Inc. “Today’s settlement holds JUUL accountable for its irresponsible marketing efforts that pushed Arizona minors toward nicotine and the addiction that follows,” AG Mark Brnovich said in a statement. More than $12 million of the payment will fund programs designed to stop youth vaping, such as e-cigarette education, cessation programs, and prevention programs. The remaining $2 million will reimburse the state for litigation costs, according to a Nov. 23 news release from the AGO. In the settlement, JUUL committed to stopping all marketing to those under the age of 21 in Arizona. They are prohibited from marketing through cartoons or near schools, advertising through social media, sponsoring events for those under 21, displaying products in unsecured areas, selling products to those under 21, or selling flavored products without U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval. Millionaire Fox News host Lara Trump bemoaned the recent Dollar Tree price increase from $1 to $1.25 while taking aim at Joe Biden over rocketing inflation. Trump, who is married to former President Donald Trump's son Eric Trump, slated Biden's economic policies during a discussion about rising prices at the discount store chain - while artfully avoiding admitting to shopping there herself. Lara, who is worth $300m, said: 'Well I know as every other parent as I'm always looking for what I can get my kids that will keep them occupied for as long as possible for as cheap as possible. 'We are all out on a hunt for that and certainly when it comes to any sort of decorations yes the Dollar Tree is a favorite of so many parents all across America. 'But I guess you're right. I guess Joe Biden can add this to his very impressive resume thus far as president, with the disastrous exit from Afghanistan, an open southern border, inflation through the roof, gas prices going higher every single day, embarrassments on the world...
A recent article by the Guardian has shed light on phthalates, chemicals that are ubiquitous in everything from food packaging to household cleaners and cosmetics.  According to the Harvard Gazette, phthalates became prevalent during the plastics revolution because they make plastics flexible, and nearly every person in America has been exposed to them.  Consider, for example, the smell of nail polish or a new plastic shower curtain—phthalates. After conducting a study on phthalate exposure in 2003, the CDC recommended that researchers conduct further studies on these chemicals and their effect on human health.  The CDC recommendation led to widespread funding of phthalates studies, and in the past two decades, studies have connected phthalates to “asthma, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, breast cancer, obesity and type II diabetes, neurodevelopmental issues, behavioral issues, autism spectrum disorders, altered reproductive development and male fertility issues.” While phthalates include a myriad of different chemicals, the Guardian suggests that “[e]nough distinct phthalates have been studied to indicate that companies should proceed with caution when using any chemical in the phthalate class, particularly in products for pregnant women...
Eighteen Old Spice and Secret deodorant sprays have been recalled because the products contain benzene, which has been linked to leukemia and blood cancers.   Cincinnati-based parent company Proctor and Gamble (P&G) released a 'voluntary' recall list of 18 aerosol deodorants on November 23.  Recalled products include the Old Spice Pure Sport gift set, as well as popular scents like Swagger and Powder Fresh.  P&G will be taking all products with an expiration date up to September 2023 off the shelves in the U.S.  The company did state that the levels of benzene in the products have a low chance of causing consumers harm. Benzene is considering a human carcinogen.   '[The] daily exposure to benzene in the recalled products at the levels detected in our testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences,' the company wrote in a statement published on the FDA website.  Old Spice Pure Sport aerosol deodorant, as well as 17 other Old Spice and Secret products, have been 'voluntarily' recalled for containing benzene, which has been linked to blood cancers and leukemia. Its parent company Proctor and Gamble...

Shoppers looking for holiday deals online are being warned that thousands of fake websites are popping up every week and stealing money from victims, according to cybersecurity experts. The surge in these malicious sites has been sparked by the surge in online shopping as well as criminals taking advantage of the demand for products in short supply, the experts say. Victims often enter the name of the product they want in search engines and then are directed to one or more fake sites. Other malicious sites use phishing emails promoting discounts on various products. The number of phony shopping sites has jumped to more than 5,300 ones each week since the beginning of October, according to a newly released report by Check Point Research, a cyber threat intelligence provider. "The global impact of these websites has peaked since the beginning of November," the report said. Check Point Research said it discovered a number of phishing emails containing subject lines such as: “Fashion MK Handbags 85% Off Shop Online Today” “Up to 80% OFF Michael Kors HandBags on Sale, High Fashion, Low Prices”...
Meditation toys to help kids manage their feelings. A Lego kit for coding, with a focus on problem-solving skills. And an Amazon video chat portal that uses holograms, games and puzzles to keep little ones engaged on calls. A recent crop of toys and products that launched during the pandemic aim to help young children reacclimate to everyday life and redevelop their social and emotional skills after spending much of the past 21 months stuck at home. Put simply, these products may be designed to cater to “parents who are worried about whether their children will be OK,” said Tovah Klein, director of the Barnard College Center for Toddler Development. A mix of technology and traditional toy companies have launched products with tech bells and whistles that foster social-emotional skills, a term which refers to how kids interact with others and manage their feelings. These skills typically begin to develop early and are often considered the biggest predictor of a child’s success later in school and beyond, according to Klein. In September, for example, Amazon introduced the Amazon Glow,...
