Following the announcement of former Senator and presidential candidate Bob Dole's passing on Sunday, tributes started to pour in from both sides of the aisle. In a statement, President Joe Biden remembered the times he shared with Dole, who died on Sunday from lung cancer at the age of 98. 'A month after being sworn in as president, one of the first conversations I had with anyone outside the White House was with our dear friends, Bob and Elizabeth Dole, at their home in Washington. 'Bob had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and I was there to offer the same support, love and encouragement that they showed me and Jill when our son Beau battled cancer.  'Like all true friendships, regardless of how much time has passed, we picked up right where we left off, as though it were only yesterday that we were sharing a laugh in the Senate dining room or debating the great issues of the day, often against each other on the Senate floor. 'I saw in his eyes, the same light, brave and determination...

LEEDS could face an FA probe after Sergi Canos appeared to be hit by an object after scoring Brentford’s second at Elland Road. The two sides played out a thrilling 2-2 draw on Sunday, with sub Patrick Bamford netting a late equaliser following a nine-game absence through injury. 1Leeds could face an FA probe after Sergi Canos appeared to be hit by an objectCredit: Getty But the match was overshadowed by an incident following Canos’ strike to put the Bees 2-1 up. The Spaniard fired home in the 61st minute as Brentford turned the game on its head. And as Canos wheeled off in celebration, a missile was hurled at him from the Don Revie Stand.  The Spaniard fell to the ground clutching his neck, with the incident certain to go into ref David Coote’s report.  Leeds now face the possibility of an FA probe following the unsavoury scene. But the Whites will still be delighted with their late point at home. ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Dane Jackson pays little heed to questions of what challenges he faces in preparing to replace Tre’Davious White in the Buffalo Bills secondary. The second-year cornerback need only point to his left arm, where the initials D, D, D, R are tattooed in honor of four late childhood friends. He does it to show the emotional pain he’s overcome in having gained this opportunity, knowing he could have wound up like them had Jackson chose a different path, and how important it is to not let them down in memory. For Jackson to fail on Monday night, when the Bills (7-4) host the New England Patriots (8-4) with first place in the AFC East on the line, would also personally represent him failing De’Von and Diondre Dozier, Domanek Cabbagestalk and Ricky Giles, who were among his biggest football backers growing up in Pittsburgh’s Greenway projects. The Dozier brothers and Cabbagestalk were shot and killed, and Giles died in a car crash while being chased by police over a four-year period spanning Jackson’s senior year...
LEEDS, England (AP) — Patrick Bamford marked his first appearance in more than two months with an equalizer in the fifth minute of added time to earn Leeds a 2-2 draw at home to Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday. The England striker came off the bench in the 68th minute and prodded in off his outstretched knee from close range after latching onto a flick-on from Luke Ayling following a corner. Brentford struck twice in seven second-half minutes, through Shandon Baptiste and Sergi Canos, to turn the game on its head following Tyler Roberts’ 27th-minute opener. For the second straight game, Leeds scored in time added on — with Raphinha having scored a penalty to seal a win over Crystal Palace on Tuesday. Leeds was dealt an early blow when captain Liam Cooper hobbled off in the 13th minute holding his hamstring after an awkward fall. Manager Marcelo Bielsa switched Junior Firpo into central defense and sent on Jack Harrison to slot in at left back. Leeds’ players had lived dangerously on several occasions prior to Cooper’s withdrawal...

WOLVERHAMPTON, England (AP) — Divock Origi’s last-gasp goal gave Liverpool a 1-0 win at Wolverhampton on Saturday that provisionally lifted it to the top of the English Premier League. Origi collected a smart cutback from Mo Salah in injury time and swiveled before slotting in the ball, just as it looked as if Liverpool would fail to score for the first time in eight months. The visitors missed good chances in the last 30 minutes, with Diogo Jota wasting one of the best when goalkeeper Jose Sa’s mistake left him with only two outfield players guarding the net. Jota’s shot from six yards out, though, was blocked by Conor Coady on the line. The result lifted Liverpool above Chelsea after Thomas Tuchel’s side lost at West Ham 3-2 earlier, although Manchester City had a chance to move above the Reds by beating Watford late. She was just 26. “It definitely shocked me, because it hit home,” Moseley said Thursday, “but COVID was hitting so many homes around the world.” Rouse’s portrait is custom painted onto Moseley’s cleats as part of the NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” campaign this week. He promised that tribute last year to her family, which includes her sister, MaKala, Moseley’s best friend back in Greensboro, North Carolina. “When I was home recently, I made a surprise visit to them and let them know again I was going to do it. Clarence Avant is a legend in the entertainment industry, known by many as the “Black Godfather,” a revered but limelight-shunning nonagenarian. And he was married for 54 years to Jacqueline “Jacquie” Avant, who was fatally shot early Wednesday by suspects at their Beverly Hills home. As lionized as he is, including in a 2019 documentary, Clarence Avant is not a household name to many outside the worlds of music, sports, film and politics. For the record: 1:53 p.m. Dec. 2, 2021A previous version of this story spelled the diminutive of Jacqueline Avant’s first name as Jackie rather than Jacquie. The 90-year-old music executive, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, grew up as a poor kid in Depression-era North Carolina. He rose to become a behind-the-scenes titan of managing, deal-making and problem-solving across the spectrum of Black entertainment. “Clarence is a guy who wasn’t looking for the job he ended up with,” entertainment magnate David Geffen said in “The Black Godfather,” Netflix’s recent documentary about Avant that was directed by Reginald...
The fraud trial of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has unearthed her written daily schedule in which she makes a series of bizarre proclamations about her diet and her communications style. The schedule was admitted into evidence at Holmes's trial this week and it begins with her waking up at 4 a.m. with instructions to "rise and thank God." A couple of hours later, Holmes would pray for ten minutes before having a breakfast consisting of a banana and whey. Odder then the schedule itself, however, were Holmes's notes to herself to seemingly remind herself of how to behave throughout her day. "I am never a minute late," she wrote. "I show no excitement calm, direct, pointed... ALL ABOUT BUSINESS." Other Holmes notes made claims such as "I know the outcome of every encounter" and "I am fully present." Holmes was indicted in 2018 on nine counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud for her role in allegedly promoting a false product as CEO of Theranos. See the whole schedule below. Others have tweeted this...

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Joe Girard made two free throws with 0.8 seconds left in double overtime and Syracuse beat previously unbeaten Indiana 112-110 on Tuesday night in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Syracuse (4-3) won a double-overtime game at home for the first time since Feb. 25, 1971. In the second overtime, Indiana forward Miller Kopp was fouled on a deep 3-point attempt with 7.6 seconds to go, and made all three free throws to tie it at 110. Girard took the inbounds pass and got it to Jimmy Boeheim for a give-and-go before driving the lane to force a foul, leading to the go-ahead free throws. Indiana (6-1), which had 25 turnovers and overcame an 18-point, second-half deficit, didn’t get off a shot at the final buzzer. Buddy Boeheim scored 27 points and Jimmy Boeheim added a career-high 26 to lead Syracuse. Girard finished with 22 points. They combined for 12 of the Orange’s 13 3-pointers. Syracuse essentially had the game won in regulation when they fouled Khristian Lander with a three-point lead and 2.6...
While not much information is available at this time, U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell reported her office in Dearborn, Michigan, was broken into and vandalized on Monday, Nov. 29. A spokeswoman from her office, Mackenzie Smith, released a statement regarding the incident shortly after, indicating that the break-in happened earlier in the day. “The Dearborn Police Department responded immediately after notification, and the United States Capitol Police are assisting in the investigation,” Smith said. “Team Dingell staff members are safe and were not physically present in the office today given a previous fire in the building,” she added. The office will remain closed as the investigation continues. Dingell has represented Michigan’s 12th congressional district since 2015. On Twitter, she issued a statement that the “vandalization really hits home” because not only were windows broken but her husband’s memorabilia was smashed. Her late husband, U.S. Rep. John Dingell, served the district prior. With 59 years in office, he is known as the longest-serving member of Congress. He died in 2019. LEEDS, England (AP) — Brazil winger Raphinha converted a penalty in the third minute of stoppage time to earn Leeds a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace that moved the team five points clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone on Tuesday. In a dramatic ending to a lackluster match at Elland Road, the referee needed to check the pitchside monitor before awarding a spot kick after Palace defender Marc Guéhi blocked a goal-bound header from Liam Cooper with a raised arm at a corner. Raphinha’s penalty kick was nonchalant as he stepped up to the ball and sent it to goalkeeper Vicente Guaita’s left. It was only a third win of the season for Leeds, which hardly troubled Palace as its struggle for goals continued while star striker Patrick Bamford is out injured. The penalty was Leeds’ 13th goal of the season — only five teams have fewer. Substitute Christian Benteke wasted Palace’s best chance, heading wide from barely three yards (meters) out at the back post from Wilfried Zaha’s cross. It was a second straight loss for Palace, which...
Paulina Porizkova is getting candid about her marriage to Ric Ocasek. The supermodel recently spoke to Amanda de Cadenet on her podcast "The Conversations with Amanda de Cadenet," during which she alleged that the late Cars frontman controlled much of her life when they were together. "He didn’t want me to do anything," the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit veteran alleged, as quoted by Yahoo! Life on Tuesday. "He didn’t want me to go anywhere. He wanted me to be within his circles at all times. I was his sole emotional provider for everything, and I confused that with love." According to the outlet, their marriage began when she was 24 and he 45. The 56-year-old also claimed to the host that during their union, she felt more like a "treasured possession" than a person with the rocker. EDDIE HOWE’S first match at home in the St James’ Park dugout saw Newcastle take a dramatic point against fellow strugglers Norwich. The Magpies spent more than 80 minutes of the crucial Premier League encounter down to 10 men. 1Teemu Pukki smashed in a late equaliser for NorwichCredit: Getty Toon defender Kieran Clark was sent off for a rash tackle on Canaries forward Teemu Pukki after just nine minutes. The hosts held on until half-time with relatively little drama for the rest of the first-half. But the game lit up after the break and Newcastle took the lead thanks to a Callum Wilson penalty. The top flight’s bottom side could not cling on though as Pukki proved to be a menace to them once again late on. The Norwich dangerman latched onto a brilliantly lofted cross by Dimitris Giannoulis to nab a point for the visitors as the game ticked into its final minutes. Getty Leonard Fournette's game-winning touchdown has been a source of debate. Debate lingers on whether Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Leonard Fournette should have scored a game-winning touchdown in a 38-31 win at Indianapolis. Fournette and head coach Bruce Arians expressed disagreement on the play following the Sunday, Nov. 28, victory. It all spawned from Isaiah Rodgers’ 72-yard kick-off return for the Colts after the touchdown. Rodger’s return set the Colts up at the 32-yard line with 10 seconds left before cornerback Pierre Desir sealed a victory for the Bucs. Arians doubted in hindsight that Fournette taking it 28 yards to the end zone was the best call. “I think if well all had a do-over, we would have told Lenny to fall down at the two (yard line) and not give them the kick off return,” Arians said. Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy criticized Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and the central bank’s forecasters over their failed inflation projections on Tuesday. Before asking if the Fed would accelerate its asset purchases to control the surging inflation, Kennedy went after the central bank’s forecasters who have consistently failed to accurately project inflation, adding they have lost credibility. “I realize that one is clairvoyant, but I think it’s fair to say that the experts who have been advising you about the future rate of inflation have pretty much the same credibility as those late-night psychic hotlines you see on TV,” Kennedy said. The Ravens’ Week 15 home game against the Green Bay Packers has been pushed back to a 4:25 p.m. kickoff, the NFL announced Tuesday. Fox’s telecast of the game had been scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Dec. 19. The NFL uses “flexible scheduling” in Weeks 11-18, meaning that, after consultation with its broadcast partners, it can move games into prime-time or late-afternoon slots. The announcements are made no later than 12 days before the game. The Ravens are 3-0 against NFC North teams this season, edging the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, but Green Bay should be the division’s stiffest test. The 9-3 Packers, led by reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers, have the NFC’s second-best record. On Sunday, they knocked off the Los Angeles Rams, 36-28, in Green Bay. The Ravens’ Week 15 game will be second of three late-afternoon kickoffs in a five-week span. On Sunday and in Week 17, they face the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Rams at 4:25 p.m.
