Why the Knicks could be one of the best 3-PT shooting teams next season Alexander Wilson September 14, 2021 Share on facebook Facebook Share on twitter Twitter Share on reddit Reddit The New York Knicks are clearly hyper-focusing on the three-point shooting, adding Evan Fournier and Kemba Walker in free agency. They also drafted a Quentin Grimes out of Houston — he is known for his distance shooting and defense. Last season, the Knicks landed 4th in the league in three-point shooting at 38.8%, having just a bit more efficiency at home compared to away. In 2019, they connected on just 33.7% of their shots from range, which would’ve landed them at 29th overall this past year, just ahead of Cleveland. During the first half of the season, the team struggled in the category but picked it up big-time after the All-Star break, and based on their numbers, they could be in for a tremendous season from beyond the arc. How Knicks’ RJ Barrett can make the jump to All-Star in 2021-22 season Alexander Wilson September 7, 2021 Share on facebook Facebook Share on twitter Twitter Share on reddit Reddit The New York Knicks are building something special after a surprising 2020-21 campaign that saw them reach the playoffs and secure the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference. The majority of their players have spent the entire off-season working diligently to improve their skills and come back even stronger in the second season under head coach Tom Thibodeau. Aside from Julius Randle, Immanuel Quickley, and several other key pieces in the Knicks’ plans, one player who has the potential to elevate his status to All-Star is guard RJ Barrett. The youngster averaged 17.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, shot 44.1% from the field, and 40.1% from three-point range, a career-high. He also saw his free-throw success rate increase to nearly 75%, which was a huge improvement compared to his 61% rate during his rookie season. If he continues improving at this rate, he’s bound for...

How can the Knicks get the most out of Quentin Grimes in his rookie season? Alexander Wilson August 10, 2021 Share on facebook Facebook Share on twitter Twitter Share on reddit Reddit When the New York Knicks drafted Quentin Grimes with the 26th overall selection, they anticipated adding a solid 3-and-D player to the roster. Despite targeting Chris Duarte in the late lottery, the Knicks ended up with their second-best option in Grimes, who was a solid player for Houston last season in the AAC. Some might refrain from cooking Grimes as a 3-and-D player right off the bat, given his aggression and underrated athleticism driving to the hoop. Over 30 games, Grimes posted 17.8 points, 2.0 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and shot 40% from three-point range, averaging 8.3 attempts per game. His 32.8 minutes per contest were the highest of his college year career last season, and he’s looking to make an impact as a rookie this upcoming season for his new team. Getty Point guard Luca Vildoza as a member of Argentina in 2019. There’s no lesser known secret across the entire NBA than the New York Knicks‘ fast approaching desperation hunt for a starting point guard come free agency. With all of Derrick Rose, Elfrid Payton, Frank Ntilikina headed for free agency, a shakeup at the position is inevitable. That’s exactly why Leon Rose and company got an ‘early start’ at free agency months ago, signing Argentina point guard Luca Vildoza to a multi-year deal. As then reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Knicks had open cap space to use on the 25-year old, who would’ve been a sough after free agent: The Knicks had the salary-cap space and roster spot to get ahead of summer free agency and secure Vildoza now. Vildoza, 25, would’ve been one of the top available free-agent point guards in the 2021 summer marketplace. He averaged 10.1 points, 3.4 assists, and 1.6 steals with Saski Baskonia in the EuroLeague prior to signing with New York. Clearly, the Knicks’ front office sees something of an...

America's baffling but lethal love affair with guns goes from strength to strength. New figures show 2020 was the deadliest gun violence year in decades. At the same time, Americans are buying guns in record numbers, while Texas lawmakers this week became the latest to vote to allow people to carry handguns without either a licence, background check or any training. The British response is traditionally to sigh in weary bewilderment and just be glad that such a terrifying arms race doesn't exist in the UK. And yet there's reason to be alarmed.  British police report that a growing number of firearms bought legally in U.S. gun shops are finding their way illegally to the UK, where they are being used by criminals who remove their serial numbers to make tracing them far harder. The album was released on May 21, 1971, against the wishes of Motown boss Berry Gordy Jr, who hated its political overtones, but is now considered one of the most important musical works of the 20th century. It also marked the high point of 25-year Marvin Gaye’s career - which went hand in hand with womanising, drug addiction and increasing paranoia,...
(CNN)President Joe Biden's first term passed the three-month point last week and will hit the 100th-day mark this week. We're now at the point where the Biden presidency is well underway, and the American public has a track record to judge him by. The verdict so far has been historically consistent. Biden sports the steadiest approval rating on record for a president through nearly 100 days in office.Looking at the average poll, his approval rating sits at right around 54%. You see this in data released on Sunday from ABC News/Washington Post (52% approve), CBS News/YouGov (58% approve), Fox News (54% approve) and NBC News (53% approve).Biden's approval rating at this point is not historically strong, by any means. Most other presidents in the post-World War II era had approval ratings above him at this point. The only clear exceptions were Gerald Ford, after he pardoned Richard Nixon, and Donald Trump, whose approval rating never got above 50%. What makes Biden unique is that his approval rating at the beginning of his presidency was a very similar 53%. In fact,...
Warriors’ guard Damion Lee has been entered into the league’s health and safety protocols, a league source told the Bay Area News Group. Lee is expected to be out 10 to 14 days. It’s unclear why Lee, who missed Wednesday night’s game in Washington with a toe injury, is being put into the protocol for coronavirus contact tracing. On Twitter, Lee acknowledged he received a vaccine for COVID-19. “And for those wondering, I did get the vaccine and continued to practice the proper safety protocols,” he wrote on Twitter. “Y’all be blessed and safe out here!” With just 13 games left in the regular season, this is a blow to the Warriors in the middle of a playoff push. If this continues, RJ Barrett will be in the 3-point shooting contest next All-Star Weekend — if not in the main event. see also Tom Thibodeau supports Knicks retiring Charles Oakley’s number after alleged offer In wake of the revelation made by Charles Oakley that... Barrett’s stark rise from beyond the 3-point stripe hit its climax in Boston, where he drilled all six of his 3 pointers, finishing with 29 points despite a 101-99 Knicks loss to the Celtics on Wednesday night at TD Garden. Barrett finished with 29 points, shooting 10-for-14 overall. In his last 40 games, after a slow start, Barrett is shooting 45.9 percent from 3-point range (61-for-133). They were preseason No. 1 and No. 2. They were the only undefeated teams left standing in college hoops (until Baylor stumbled on Feb. 27). And now, they are the only teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament field. © Provided by CBS Sports You could point to a number of different reasons for why these two are now vying for a national championship on Monday night -- the coaching, the schemes, the experience, maybe a few lucky bracket breaks -- but Charles Barkley summed it up Saturday on CBS. "A lot of teams have Jims and Jims. And a lot of teams have Joes," he said, referring to the quote about the importance of valuing good players over everything else. "Baylor and Gonzaga are the only two teams in the tournament with Jims and Joes." Barkley, as ever, is right. Gonzaga and Baylor have...

When Justinian Jessup canned a 3-pointer from the left wing in the third quarter of his 26-point effort Thursday, he held the shooting form of his outstretched left arm and soaked in the moment as he was well on his way to scoring a career high. Jessup, the 22-year-old, 6-foot-7 shooter who the Warriors selected with the 51st pick in November’s draft, is playing this season overseas in the NBL. His scoring outburst didn’t lead to a victory of his Illawarra Hawks, but it did garner attention stateside, and from former Warriors center Andrew Bogut. “Hey Warriors fans! Justinian Jessup is COOKING right now,” Bogut said in a tweet. An hour later, Bogut typed, “He can SHOOT it.” Even as Jessup impresses fans and inspires tweets by averaging 15.6 points on 54.3% shooting from 3-point range, sources say the Warriors have no plans to bring him over stateside this season.
