Brian Kelly fired back at the suggestion that the coach on the sideline for Notre Dame would carry weight when the College Football Playoff selection committee makes a decision on its final four. Selection committee chair Gary Barta made the suggestion after the latest Top 4 rankings were released Tuesday and after Kelly bolted Notre Dame for LSU. Twitter's new woke CEO has dumped the head of engineering and chief design officer as he restructures the company following Jack Dorsey's resignation. Parag Agrawal, who took over as the $11 billion company on Monday, announced that he would be making some major changes to Twitter's team to streamline company operations and accelerate growth. As a result of his changes, the head of engineering Michael Montano and chief design officer Dantley Davis have stepped down from their lead roles and will leave the company on December 31, 2021, according to the US Securities and Exchange Commission filing reporting the move. Agrawal's company-wide email explained how he wanted to bring together employees who are divided by their job functions and corresponding teams, according to The Washington Post, which exclusively obtained the email. It was late Thursday morning and Aldik Home was bustling with dozens of shoppers perusing the showroom decked out with thousands of Christmas lights and dozens of trees hung with all manner of ornaments and ribbons. The six-decade-old Van Nuys retailer’s Christmas displays have gained some notoriety in the past, with the Kardashian family filming a holiday episode of its reality TV show inside. (In a tense exchange at the store, Kim accused Kris of attempting to copy her Christmas decorations purchased at Aldik.) But this year, Aldik customers will have to open their wallets wider to purchase a 7.5-foot-tall Deluxe Flocked Arctic tree or a 32-foot strand of Cool White LED lights. Prices for some items have increased by as much as 25%, as the retailer has run into a mix of supply chain issues, said store owner Larry Gold. The store has faced increased shipping and import costs, with rates jumping as high as 600% and months-long delays stemming from ongoing issues at the Port of Los Angeles. The Bank of America has reportedly told its Midtown employees to 'dress down' and avoid wearing company logos while commuting to the office as New York City experiences a surge in crime.  Senior executives at the Bryant Park location have been encouraging their younger staff to 'dress down' in order to attract less attention as they travel to work, sources told the New York Post.  They have reportedly warned staffers that wearing the company logo or dressing up could make them a target for assault, which is up 15 percent the past month. John Yiannacopoulos, a media relations executive for Bank of America, told DailyMail.com on Friday that the company does offer 'safety guidelines' to employees. Bank of America declined to let DailyMail.com view its guidelines.    One bank employee, who was not named, told the New York Post's On The Money column that he was on a high alert after seeing a stranger with a knife near the bank's office.  A top executive of a large money management firm even said he started carrying a Taser - which has been legal...
Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart may have just called out new USC head coach Lincoln Riley for ducking the SEC. With the biggest game of the season ahead of them on Saturday, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart may have taken a not-so-subtle shot at former Oklahoma and new USC head coach Lincoln Riley. There has been some debate as to if Riley ducked the SEC. His former employer is slated to join the SEC in a few years to make it a 16-team league, along with arch rival Texas. Riley had elite job security in Norman and would have made the transition to the new league had he stayed put. Though the opportunity to rebuild at a place like USC is appealing, here is what Smart had to say. “The amount of pressure that’s put on coaching staffs to win now is immense,” said Smart ahead of the 2021 SEC Championship game vs. Alabama on Saturday. “I think you have to understand when you get into this business, the nature of this business and the high stakes that are involved...

RESERVE, La. (AP) — Michael Coleman’s house is the last one standing on his tiny street, squeezed between a sprawling oil refinery that keeps him up at night and a massive grain elevator that covers his pickup with dust and worsens his breathing problems. Coleman, 65, points to the smokestacks billowing just outside his backyard. “Oh, when the plants came in, they built right on top of us,” he said. “We was surrounded by sugarcane, and now we’re surrounded by (industrial) plants.” The oil company offered him a buyout, but Coleman rejected it. “I’m waiting for a fair shake,” he said. In the meantime, he copes with high blood pressure, thyroid problems and other health issues that he attributes to decades of pollution from his industrial neighbors, a Marathon Petroleum refinery and a Cargill grain depot. St. John the Baptist Parish, where Coleman lives, is part of an 85-mile stretch from New Orleans to Baton Rouge officially known as the Mississippi River Chemical Corridor, but more commonly called Cancer Alley. The region contains several hotspots where cancer risks are far...
Oklahoma football will be coached by Bob Stoops in their bowl game after Lincoln Riley’s exit but the question of pay made Stoops even more of a legend. Things got pretty ugly quick for Oklahoma football with Lincoln Riley leaving abruptly after the loss in Bedlam. Quick to step in, though, was Sooners head coaching legend Bob Stoops, who will serve as the interim head coach for the program in their bowl game to finish off the season. As if that wasn’t an already legendary move enough from Stoops to step away from his FOX broadcasting duties to coach the program that he handed Riley the keys to, it gets even more so with details of his pay being revealed. According to Oklahoma University President Joe Harroz, Stoops refused multiple times to take any compensation for his interim coaching duties, essentially saying that he would do it for his love of the school and program. Of course, the Sooners wouldn’t listen and are still going to pay him. Joe Harroz: Bob Stoops “twice refused” to be paid for his services...

SEATTLE (AP) — At some point during the whirlwind of the past few days, Kalen DeBoer grabbed the phone and for the first time in his coaching career had a conversation with Chris Petersen. One of DeBoer’s big questions for the highly successful former coach and someone he admired from afar: How best to make the transition from coaching at a Mountain West school to being the head coach at Washington? “I think his experience moving from Boise (State) here, I think is very relatable to my situation. … I’ll pick his brain as well as others on what’s been successful here and how to attack it. It was just really good dialogue and understanding Washington in general,” DeBoer said Tuesday. Washington is hoping that dipping back into the Mountain West pool by hiring DeBoer will help the school replicate the success it had when Petersen made the move from Boise State to join the Huskies in 2013. After two seasons as the head coach at Fresno State, DeBoer agreed to a five-year, $16.5 million deal with Washington. The...

In college basketball, there have been some fantastic programs throughout the years. We’ve seen Blue Blood programs do fantastic things, while other teams have made just as many memories throughout time. The success of some of these programs is due to their head coaches and the fantastic efforts those men have put into their schools. On the other hand, it’s just as easy for a program to make a coaching hire that has a negative effect on the school. There have been some pretty bad coaching hires made over the years, but we’re going to take a closer look at the very worst across time. There’s no formula in calculating which coaches are worse than others, but we’ll be considering everything...

As people take to the air for the year-end holidays, Sara Nelson, the international president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, reached out to CNN to give passengers some tips on what to do whenever they see potential signs of trouble on board. She believes that a lot of people who haven’t flown in a year have forgotten about the myriad rules in place to keep us all safe—particularly the requirement to wear a mask in the airport and on the plane, which is in place until at least Jan. 18. It looks like the Florida Gators have their top candidate to replace Dan Mullen as the Florida football coach. Keep an eye on Billy Napier. Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns head coach Billy Napier has seemingly been linked to every interesting job throughout the South that has opened up over the past few years. He hasn’t taken any of them, but he might just end up in Gainesville as the Florida football team’s head coach. Napier might just be the guy to end up as the next head coach of the Florida Gators. According to a report from Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel, Napier is the top candidate. He is evidently the favorite to end up in Gainesville and replace Dan Mullen.Florida football coaching search: Will Gators hire Billy Napier?Napier’s name has been connected to multiple coaching searches in the past and other teams have seemingly swung and missed in their attempts to land the Louisiana head coach. Will Florida be the job that Napier finally leaves Lafayette for? It seems very plausible. Napier hasn’t landed the best recruits ever, but he’s generally...
The Giants, who have won 23 of the 74 games they’ve played since the last time they had a winning record, have now decided that the only way to get things going in the right direction again is to fire their offensive coordinator. It reminds you of the old days at Yankee Stadium when George Steinbrenner would fire a pitching coach. But this isn’t about Jason Garrett. From now until the end of the regular season, this is about the head coach, who loses his cover now. He is the one who owns everything that happens on offense for the Giants the rest of the way, good or bad. Judge needs to put some points on the board as much as Daniel Jones does. Maybe the Giants can put it on the Eagles Sunday, one of the teams ahead of them in the NFC East, the way the Bucs put it on the Giants Monday night, before Garrett officially went under the team bus the next day. Or, better yet: The Giants need to put it on the...
As head teacher of Britain’s most expensive day school, since 2017 Robin Appleby has enjoyed a pay packet to rival those of the turbo-charged bankers, sports stars and celebrities whose ultra-privileged children she educates. Last year, her basic salary for running the £32,650-a-year American School in London (ASL) was £337,000. She was also paid £25,000 in ‘other remuneration’, plus £34,000 in ‘pension contributions’. In other words, the 56-year-old former English teacher took home very nearly £400,000. That is more than ten times the pay of the average teacher in the UK, and nearly six times that of the average school head. Not bad for someone employed by a registered charity! Nothing lasts for ever, though. And last week Mrs Appleby’s lucrative reign at ASL — which has 1,350 students and alumni who include Kathleen Turner and Police drummer Stewart Copeland — came to a juddering halt. Parents of pupils at the school (who rub shoulders at its gates with the likes of Hollywood siren Salma Hayek and football coach Thierry Henry) were emailed with news of her sudden resignation. She...
Katherine Knight has gone down in the annals of Australian criminal history as the nation's worst female killer and the first and only woman to be locked up for life in prison. Her infamy comes from decapitating her partner after stabbing him to death and skinning his corpse, then cooking his head in a pot with vegetables.  Having hung her partner' skin on a meat hook, Knight served up parts of his body with baked potatoes and gravy on plates set at the dinner table for each of his three children. It has been speculated Knight, a onetime boner at a slaughterhouse, tried but failed to eat a cooked section of her boyfriend's left buttock that was later found on the back lawn. Katherine Knight murdered her partner John Price before cutting off his head and skinning his body. She then cooked his head in a pot and served up his body parts on plates set for his three children. Knight was the first Australian woman to be sentenced to life without parole  It was at this house at Aberdeen...
Before the start of the Thanksgiving showdown between the Bears and Lions, Chicago tried pulling a fast one with the refs but they fooled no one.  Just when you think the Chicago Bears fanbase can’t feel any more embarrassed, the team goes ahead and does this. On Thursday, Chicago is in the Motor City taking on the Lions for a Thanksgiving showdown. During the coin toss, Detroit won things and chose to defer. Then, in truly stunning fashion, Chicago’s Christian Jones then tried to defer things once again. Excuse me? Yup, he can’t do that and this incident is now taking Twitter by storm. Lions win the toss and defer. Bears then also try to defer and are told they cannot, so theyll take the ball. Good start. — Chris Burke (@ChrisBurkeNFL) November 25, 2021 The Bears not knowing how the coin toss works is truly disturbing Is this a new low for the Bears? Probably. To make matters worse for them, Detroit opened the scoring on a Jared Goff touchdown pass. All week, rumors have swirled that head...

A NEW optic illusion has gone viral on social media as people try to figure out if the circles are moving or staying in one place. The illusion works by constantly changing colors and the direction of the arrows to keep you wondering. 3This optic illusion has people wondering if the circles are movingCredit: Twitter 3The questions can make it hard to figure outCredit: Twitter When staring at the two circles, it seems like they are moving up and down, side to side, and even getting thinner and thicker. However, what could be confusing people on social media is the fact that the circles are changing colors constantly. This creates an illusion that they are moving on their own. But, they aren't. The constant video loop of the colors going around the circle could also be very deceiving. After the creator posted his work on social media, many commented with conflicting opinions. One person wrote: "I hid the arrows and the circles are still moving." Most read in LifestyleROYAL RAGER Prince Harry 'blew Charles out the water'...
While Bears fans are fed up with head coach Matt Nagy, the notion of pushing  Bears GM Ryan Pace out of Chicago seems much less likely.  Chicago Bears fans have been calling for the ousting of Matt Nagy since the 2021 season began, but the “Fire Nagy” chants began long before that. But a mailbag question posed to The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain calls attention to another potential culprit for the Bears’ bungling of the franchise: Bears GM Ryan Pace. “How can Bears management truly justify keeping Ryan Pace?” reader Annie P. posits. “Seven years, no playoff wins. He was ringmaster of the Nagy circus. Picked him to run the offense — last in the league.” Fishbain concedes that while Bears fans likely have a consensus that Pace should get packing, Bears ownership will likely ride out the Pace ship for a few more seasons. The crux of the issue, according to Fishbain, comes down to this: “does the ‘good’ (strong drafting in the middle to late rounds, a solid young core, the decision to take Fields, if he is the...
New York (CNN Business)Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, is set to testify in a Senate subcommittee hearing in early December about the platform's potentially harmful impact on younger users following months of scrutiny on the issue. The testimony will mark Mosseri's first appearance before Congress. It also makes him the most high-profile executive from Meta, the social media company formerly known as Facebook, to agree to testify since Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen leaked hundreds of internal company documents. Some of those documents showed that the company's own researchers have found Instagram can damage young users' mental health and body image, and can exacerbate dangerous behaviors such as eating disorders. "After bombshell reports about Instagram's toxic impacts, we want to hear straight from the company's leadership why it uses powerful algorithms that push poisonous content to children driving them down rabbit holes to dark places, and what it will do to make its platform safer," Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who chairs the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety and Data Security, said in a statement to CNN Business. Blumental previously called...
IF there’s one thing Faye Winter excels at, it’s not giving a hoot about what others think. So when the Love Island star recently had to have her beloved lip filler dissolved, and got a flood of comments saying she looked better au naturel, there was no chance of her listening and staying that way. 5Love Island star Faye Winter recently had her lip filler dissolvedCredit: Mark Hayman 5But the reality star, who excels at not giving a hoot about what others think, did not listen to the flood of comments saying she looked better withoutCredit: Mark Hayman She says: “They looked hideous without filler — so wrinkly, like a raisin. They would have rejuvenated in time, but there wasn’t one part of me that was going to allow them to stay like that. I prefer me with lip filler. “I got a lot of comments saying, ‘You look so much better without your lip filler’ or ‘You look so much younger’ — which to me are backhanded compliments.” But she adds: “I will never be influenced by anyone...
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Holiday travelers hit the ground running Wednesday morning, with many going to the Philadelphia International Airport and Amtrak stations to get on their way. The airport anticipates more than 848,000 people passing through the airport for Thanksgiving holiday travel. CBS3’s Jan Carabeo was at the airport early Wednesday morning as a steady stream of travelers went through the TSA checkpoints, although the line moved quickly. READ MORE: Philly Truce Calls For Thanksgiving Weekend Gun Violence Truce As City Approaches 500 HomicidesHowever, that can always change. The airport is suggesting you get here at least three hours before your boarding time. Many people will be traveling for the first time in nearly two years, and there are some changes at the airport, starting before you even step foot inside the terminal. Parking is extremely limited, with the economy lot is now permanently closed. The garages have 12,000 parking spots, but those go fast. Travelers are being strongly encouraged to use the airport’s nine off-site parking partners, with around 8,700 parking spots at additional lots. Public transportation or rideshares...
Prior to the newest finding of the medical examiner, Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt Hoffman said that it was likely Laundrie had committed suicide before the manhunt for him had begun. "That guy went out there and by all accounts probably committed suicide, and he was right out there where we thought he was," Hoffman said. "There was four feet of water out there at the time." Laundrie's family has said they will cremate his remains and not hold a funeral for him. The case received increased interest when an hourlong video of an interaction between Petito, Laundrie, and several law enforcement officers was released to the public. Petito admitted that she hit Laundrie, but she claimed that he had grabbed her throat, something he denied. Police decided to release them after the long interview and classified the incident as a "mental/emotional health break." Petito was killed several days later. According to popular lore, when the American humorist Mark Twain was asked about rumors that he was gravely ill, he replied, “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” The quote itself is somewhat exaggerated, but the gist remains the same. Matt Nagy didn’t go quite that far Tuesday afternoon, but he did use the word “inaccurate” to describe a report that the Chicago Bears have informed him they will fire him after Thursday’s game against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. The fact the Bears let the Patch.com report by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mark Konkol sit out in the open all morning meant no one felt compelled to rally to Nagy’s defense, whether the report is true or they don’t want to get into the business of commenting on every report that comes along. It was a weird day at Halas Hall, but that’s the way it goes sometimes when a team is mired in a five-game losing streak that includes blown leads in the final minute of the last two games.
