Kevin McCarthy said Sunday that his record-breaking eight-and-a-half hour speech on Thursday night was also supposed to be 45 minutes – but he extended it after Democrats tried to shut him down. 'When I went to the floor, I had no idea we would speak that long. It wasn't about breaking the record, it was about breaking down this bill,' McCarthy told Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo. He said the limit of a 20-minute debate and Democrat heckling inspired him to go for much longer than he originally intended. 'More than 2,000 pages and the Democrats were only allowing – once they put that manager's amendment in – 10 minutes on each side to debate,' the House minority leader continued. 'And the amount of heckling that they would try to do to stop me from being able to talk.' 'But what we really found,' McCarthy said, 'with one-party rule in one year – this big government socialism isn't working.' House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said he only planned to speak for about 45 minutes at most on...

Marvel Studios Taika Waititi said that Korg was only supposed to appear in one or two scenes in "Thor: Ragnarok." The director said Chris Hemsworth suggested that he include him in more scenes. Waititi said that "all of Korg's stuff was pretty much ad-libbed on the day." "Thor: Ragnarok" director Taika Waititi revealed that Chris Hemsworth came up with the idea to extend the fan-favorite character Korg's screen time in the 2017 Marvel movie. "I just started reading scenes with Chris to see how they played for him, and [Korg] was only in one or two scenes," Waititi said in a new behind-the-scenes book called "The Story of Marvel Studios: The Making of the Marvel Cinematic Universe" by Tara Bennett and Paul Terry. Korg, voiced by Waititi, was first introduced to the MCU when Thor encountered the Kronan...
The man charged with raping a woman while on a train in the Philadelphia area reportedly violated his student visa and had a previous criminal record, but he was not deported, Fox News reported Monday. Fiston Ngoy, who was arrested Oct. 13 for sexual assault on a SEPTA train, came to the United States in 2012 on a student visa, according to Fox News. Ngoy’s visa was terminated in 2015 after he “failed” to remain enrolled as a student in the country. Court records also showed that Ngoy also had “multiple arrests and two misdemeanor convictions, one for controlled substances and one for sexual abuse,” according to Fox News. Ngoy pled guilty to the sexual abuse misdemeanor in 2017 and was sentenced to 120 days in prison. Ngoy was supposed to be deported following his sexual abuse charges, but a judge for the Board of Immigration Appeals found that his misdemeanor sex offense was not a “serious crime,” Fox News reported. Instead, the judge placed him on a “withholding of removal” and mandated that Ngoy report to the Immigration and...

MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle slammed Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday for neglecting her duty as “border czar” during the ongoing crisis at the southern border. “How about the message from our vice president, where is she? She was supposed to be in charge of all of these migration issues, going to those Northern Triangle countries that’s obviously not Haiti, that was one of her first international trips with the message do not come here illegally,” Ruhle said on MSNBC. “People aren’t listening. What is she saying now?” she added. (RELATED: Thousands Of Migrants, Mostly From Haiti, Overwhelm Border Officials In Texas) WATCH: “How about the message from our Vice President? Where is she? MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle criticized Vice President Kamala Harris Monday for being missing in action during the ongoing crisis on the southern border. Startling images of thousands of migrants camped under the International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas over the weekend confirmed that the situation on the border remains chaotic. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has determined the situation to be so dire that he's asked President Joe Biden for a federal emergency declaration, saying that as of Saturday there were nearly 16,000 migrants in Del Rio. "Thousands of families are immobilized in 100-degree heat as their numbers continue to swell as they wait to be processed by the approximately 64 federal agents in the area," Abbott wrote in a letter to the president. "Individuals are camping in squalid conditions and bathing in muddy river water, causing great health concerns." Biden appointed Harris as his point person on the issue in March, and her critics are wondering what she is doing to stem the influx of migrants that has overwhelmed Customs and Border Patrol agents. MSNBC “Stephanie Ruhle Reports” host Stephanie Ruhle on Monday wondered where Vice President Kamala Harris has been regarding the ongoing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. Ruhle, who was reacting to the Biden administration stopping the group of 15,000 Haitian immigrants camping under a bridge at the border, noted that Harris was put in charge of the border. She said that “people aren’t listening” to her messaging to not come to the United States illegally and asked what she was doing now to solve the issue. “How about the message from our vice president? Where is she?” Ruhle asked. “She was supposed to be in charge of all of these migration issues, going to those Northern Triangle countries — that’s obviously not Haiti — that was one of her first international trips with the message ‘Do not come here illegally.’ People aren’t listening. What is she saying now?” NBC News correspondent Julia Ainsley replied, “Well, we haven’t heard a lot from the vice president. Of course, you point out she was focused on those Northern Triangle countries. A lot of her work...
A 26-year-old man under a deportation order was sentenced to just one year in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl in an elevator earlier this summer. The incident took place on July 16th and saw the man enter an elevator in a residential building in the commune of Elbeuf in the Normandy region and attack the 11-year-old young girl after she entered the elevator with him. According to the girl, who was visiting her family in the area at the time, the man asked to look at her phone and asked her what social media apps she used and told her she could join him in the home of the person who hosts him in France, news website Actu reports. In court, the young girl explained, “He then stroked my breasts and buttocks before taking out his genitals to make me touch it and lick my cheek,” and said the man pushed all of the elevator buttons but she was able to escape to her grandparents’ apartment on the 10th floor of the building. Afghan taekwondo athlete Zakia Khudadadi was supposed to be on her way to the Tokyo Paralympics and become her country's first ever female participant in the Games. Instead, as the Taliban have taken control of Afghanistan, the 23-year-old tells CBS News she and her family are living a "nightmare."  Khudadadi, who was born with a disability, overcame odds and broke conservative stereotypes as a female athlete in Afghanistan. She now feels four years of training will be for nothing, and is concerned for her safety.    "Despite being a disabled girl, I reached myself to Kabul with great difficulty to go to the competition. But now I do not even have safety of life, let alone participating in the competition," she told CBS News.  Afghan athlete, Zakia Khudadadi, asks to be allowed to participate in the Tokyo Paralympic Games.  Zakia Khudadadi Khudadadi is not with her family, who is based in her home city of Herat. In 2008, the Tennessee Titans selected East Carolina running back Chris Johnson in the first round of the NFL Draft (No. 24 overall). But Johnson recently said he believes the Pittsburgh Steelers would have selected him one pick earlier, if not for an issue that arose during his pre-draft visit to Pittsburgh. On the most recent edition of the All Things Covered podcast, co-host Bryant McFadden (a former Steelers cornerback), recalled how he and his defensive teammates heard that the organization had been extremely interested in drafting Johnson with the No. 23 overall pick.McFadden: ‘We Heard … That [the Steelers] Were Definitely High on You’“We knew we were going to take a running back—and we eventually heard, after the fact—that the Steelers were definitely strongly considering [you],” said McFadden. “We heard from the scouting department—from the powers-that-be—that they were definitely high on you, but it just didn’t work out.” “Yes,...
Former NFL running back Chris Johnson revealed the reason why the Pittsburgh Steelers opted against selecting him in the 2008 NFL Draft. Chris Johnson solidified himself as one of the best running backs in the past decade during his time with the Tennessee Titans. As it turns out, things may have happened differently in the 2008 NFL Draft that may have landed him in the AFC North instead. During an appearance on CBS Sports’ “All Things Covered” podcast alongside Bryant McFadden and Patrick Peterson, Johnson revealed that the Pittsburgh Steelers were interested in him, but he did not want to take an MRI during his visit with the team. The reason why Johnson did not want to undergo the MRI was because he was claustrophobic. You can listen to a snippet of the interview below, but you can catch Johnson’s full story about the Steelers in the YouTube link provided in McFadden’s tweet. "I was supposed to be a Steeler" Man, this story really confirmed that I should have been teammates w/ Chris Johnson in Pittsburgh. CJ was claustrophobic...
Jon Geiger’s criminal conviction in an excessive force case was supposed to prevent him from ever again working as a police officer in Colorado. When the former Georgetown officer pleaded guilty to misdemeanor harassment in 2018 — a conviction that triggers an automatic revocation of an officer’s state certification — then-Fifth Judicial District Attorney Bruce Brown lauded the move as weeding out “bad apples” in law enforcement and said blocking Geiger from working again as a Colorado police officer was a “fundamental goal of the prosecution.” But just two years after Geiger’s conviction, the state’s Peace Officer Standards and Training Board reinstated Geiger — exercising its power, in certain circumstances, to exempt officers convicted of crimes from being decertified. This spring, Geiger, 52, joined the town of Nunn’s police department, recently leading the small Weld County law enforcement agency as interim chief. “This is a man who should not be wearing a badge,” Brown said when he learned from The Denver Post that Geiger was back on the job. “And it discredits the integrity of the criminal justice system, as...
BRUNO FERNANDES was meant to be the man to inspire Portugal to a second straight European Championship victory. In a squad boasting the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Diogo Jota, Joao Felix, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Renato Sanches, the 2016 champions were rightly among the favourites for the crown. 4Bruno Fernandes was all-but anonymous for Portugal at Euro 2020 by his high standards 4Bruno Fernandes endured a woeful Euro 2020 as Portugal crashed out at the last-16 stageCredit: Rex While 36-year-old Ronaldo is still the main man for Portugal for now, Fernandes is the undoubted heir to the throne. After a spectacular year-and-a-half at Manchester United following his £50million move from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, it's easy to see why such big things were expected from the attacking midfielder this summer. Last season alone, Fernandes was involved in a staggering 46 goals - scoring 28 and adding a further 18 assists - in all competitions. But in four games at Euro 2020, the Old Trafford ace, 26, managed zero goals, zero assists and only played an average of 51.5...

"Windows 10 is the last version of Windows," he said. But last week, Microsoft announced an online event to reveal "the next generation of Windows." Six years after the remarks, the world's second most valuable public company has good reason to change direction. The father of Jan’s baby in “The Office” was originally supposed to be a famous athlete. Jan getting pregnant from a sperm donor was a major storyline in the hit NBC show, and fans never knew who the father was. (REVIEW: ‘Westworld’ Season 3 Ends With The Possible Deaths Of Multiple Characters) Well, according to Mashable, it was revealed on the “Office Ladies” podcast that Andy Roddick was originally supposed to be the father. “Jan says: ‘You have to pay top dollar, but it’s worth it. Now, here’s the best part. I got Andy Roddick’s sperm,'” Angela Kinsey revealed about what was originally in the script. You can listen to the whole podcast below. This is so far out of left field that I don’t even know what to think about it. Would it have been funny? Sure, but I also like the fact we never know the identity of the baby’s father. All we know is that it’s not Michael, and that causes the boss of Dunder Mifflin to go through many different emotional phases. Also,...

Think about a preseason checklist with the Yankees. Where were the concerns? Were there too many righty hitters? Was there enough starting pitching? How about overall athleticism? The outfield was not in the discussion. If anything, with the late signings of Brett Gardner and Jay Bruce and the lingering presence of Mike Tauchman, Miguel Andujar and maybe even Estevan Florial, the Yankees seemed covered behind the starting trio of Clint Frazier, Aaron Hicks and Aaron Judge. Remember, just a month ago, it took Luke Voit’s decision to have knee surgery late in spring training to even shoehorn Bruce on the roster. Yet in this first unsatisfactory month for the Yankees, the depth and the performance of the outfield have both waned. Bruce, feeling no longer qualified to succeed at a major league level, retired. On Tuesday, Tauchman was traded to the Giants, Judge was pulled late from a game against the Orioles (with manager Aaron Boone hiding behind vagaries about lower-body soreness), and Frazier and Hicks went hitless in eight combined at-bats. Frazier and Hicks have been two of the...

A top state physician was ordered to carry out several hours-long visits to Andrew Cuomo's brother Chris as part of the New York Governor's VIP Covid testing scheme, as new details emerged about his latest scandal. The embattled governor's relatives including his fashion designer brother-in-law Kenneth Cole and high-powered friends received preferential treatment for tests at the start of the pandemic when resources were thin. Medical staff have described how they had to interrupt important Covid tasks to carry out tests for the 'inner circle' of people connected to Cuomo. The samples were then rushed by state troopers to a laboratory and results were often returned within hours, while other New Yorkers had to wait for a week, according to The Washington Post.   Nurses said Cuomo's family were 'treated like royalty', adding: 'I didn't understand why they were able to jump the line.' People with firsthand knowledge of the priority scheme said figures with links to Cuomo could bypass the burdened testing process in New York from last March. Former President Donald Trump's legal team got him acquitted of the charges he faced in the Senate, but days after, one of them is providing insight into the team's dysfunction. David Schoen, one of Trump's lead attorneys for the case, criticized his former co-counselor in an interview with Jewish Insider published on Monday, arguing that former acting Pennsylvania Attorney General Bruce Castor assumed outsize influence even though he was supposed to play a supporting role. “[Trump’s team] asked me if I would work with [Castor], if I would take the lead and so on, but then, [Castor] would help me, and he has a firm that can help and all that,” he said. “I’m not sure that message was communicated to him clearly enough because he never seemed to quite understand that I was supposed to be the lead in the case.” Castor's blueprint called for Schoen to focus on the Senate's jurisdiction in the matter, which would leave him largely sidelined after the first day of the trial. Stepping into the lead role himself, Castor “jumped in” to...

Kasey Chambers In the final months of 2019 and the early months of 2020, I knew what song I wanted to be drunkenly singing along to in the waning moments of the Trump era (as I then could only hope). Then came March through December of 2020, and holy crap, did this song gain resonance. Australian country singer-songwriter Kasey Chambers has been one of my favorite musicians for closing in on 20 years, someone I’ve seen live more times and in more places than I can count. When my father died, her song "Go On Your Way" put words to my deepest prayer. But for the closing days of the Trump era, I was waiting to play the song “I’m Alive,” to get to the fiercely triumphant “I made it through the hardest fucking year.” In the middle of a workout, I would put on a burst of speed as that line approached, imagining the moment I’d be able to feel like it was really true that I had made it through. Well, 2020 showed me. Too many of us didn’t make it...
Getty Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen looks for an open teammate against the Denver Broncos. In the 2018 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos had an opportunity to draft Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen with the fifth overall pick but decided to go in a different direction. Allen had played his college ball at Wyoming, which was just two hours north of Mile High Stadium in Denver, and the Broncos were searching for a franchise quarterback after going through a quarterback carousel of Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler, and Paxton Lynch in 2017. Allen could’ve been their answer, but they drafted North Carolina defensive end Bradley Chubb, who’s turned into one of the top pass rushers in the NFL. Heading into their matchup on Saturday, there was a lot said about whether or not Allen had any extra motivation going into the game, seeing that the Broncos had passed on him. Johnson had seemingly unified a bitterly divided Conservative party -- whose days in government during Theresa May's premiership had appeared numbered just months before. The good will Johnson's lawmakers held for their leader was palpable.A scant 12 months later, much of that goodwill has vanished -- despite his party continuing to perform well in opinion polls compared to the opposition Labour Party.A no-deal Brexit will destroy 300,000 jobs and push up food pricesRead MoreThe Brexiteers who celebrated Johnson's victory now fear a sell-out at the last minute, as the deadline for a deal with the EU could come as soon as this Sunday. And while Johnson's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic has been heavily...
“It’s like we both are falling in love again/It’ll be just like starting over, starting over.” So go the lyrics to “(Just Like) Starting Over,” the last single John Lennon put out before he was shot and killed by Mark David Chapman outside of the Dakota, his Central Park West apartment building, on Dec. 8, 1980. The song — which, following its release on Oct. 24, 1980, would go No. 1 after Lennon’s death — was supposed to be exactly that: a fresh start for a 40-year-old family man who had already become the stuff of music legend. Taking a five-year hiatus after his 1975 covers album “Rock ’N’ Roll,” Lennon had basically retired from rock-star life — and this upbeat track, full of hope and promise, was a new beginning. “It’s important because it was the song that reintroduced us to him after six years since he had put out an album of original material [1974’s ‘Walls and Bridges’],” said Tim English, author of “John Lennon: 1980 Playlist,” who notes that the Beatle was creatively reinvigorated by a sailing...

They overlapped for nine seasons there, from 2009-10 through 2017-18, when their personal competition and enmity was regular and stretched the boundaries of possibility. They burnished their reputations as the best players of all time — a subject about which there can no longer be any reasonable or intellectually honest debate.  Between the time Ronaldo was with Manchester United, their Spanish years and international games between Messi’s Argentina and Portugal, they met 35 times. When “social democrat” Bill de Blasio was elected mayor in 2013, he was “anointed … as the standard-bearer for a new progressive movement,” the left-wing magazine The Nation recalled in 2016. New York under de Blasio was to provide a model for the rest of the nation about what “progressive” or “democratic socialist” governance could look like. And he certainly governed as New York’s “most progressive mayor in decades,” winning re-election in 2017 to a second term. Today, looking back on the de Blasio era, the lessons of “democratic socialism” in New York are clear. The city has lost thousands of residents due to the coronavirus pandemic — but it was in a downward spiral even before the outbreak. The mayor backed the Black Lives Matter movement, exacerbating a rift in relations with the New York Police Department (NYPD) that once enjoyed the backing of de Blasio’s predecessors, who brought the city’s notorious crime under control. De Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo supported a state law ending cash bail in New York. Faced with a crime wave, the mayor offered criminal defendants...

But nearly 13 million remain unemployed — about 7 million more workers than pre-pandemic levels. And there are worrying trends emerging among this group. Namely, a growing share of job loss is permanent (rather than temporary) and is longer-term in nature, stretching out beyond six months. These trends carry negative financial effects for the unemployed and their families, including lost income, reduced likelihood of finding a job and lower earnings when (and if) they get one, according to economists. Zoom In IconArrows pointing outwards The recession has hit lower-wage workers and minorities — who are less likely to be able to withstand these financial shocks — harder than other groups. "The impacts [this] will have on the community are tremendous," Behnaz Mansouri, a senior attorney with the Unemployment Law Project, said of the associated financial repercussions.Permanent layoffsThe mass unemployment that hit...
(CNN)When the world's youngest dictator addressed his 25 million or so people on May 7, 2016, he made a bold promise. In just five years, the livelihoods of all North Koreans would be markedly improved, said Kim Jong Un, then 32 years old. North Korea would become a "highly civilized socialist country" whose people would enjoy the "conditions and environment for leading a wealthy and a highly civilized life to their heart's content," Kim said. The goal was ambitious bordering on impossible. At the time, North Korea was one of the world's poorest countries, and an international pariah restrained by economic sanctions for its dogged pursuit of a nuclear weapons program. Kim appeared confident that, after purging dozens of officials who served under his father, a new cohort of leaders under his stewardship could turn things around. But the economic vision Kim laid out at that major conference in 2016 -- the first Workers' Party of Korea Congress since 1980 -- was not supported by any details other than a vague five-year plan, the economic agendas common among 20th century communist states. According to a new report, former Impact Wrestling veteran James Storm was supposed to join WWE earlier this year before these plans were derailed by the coronavirus pandemic, just as he claimed in an interview last week. However, it appears that he was going to be brought in as a jobber who would presumably lose most, if not all of his matches. Citing a “tenured” member of WWE’s creative team, Ringside News wrote that it is “100 percent true” that Storm was on his way to WWE prior to the pandemic and that his employer at the time, the National Wrestling Alliance, was willing to grant him an early release. Likewise, the publication noted that there were plans for him to make an immediate main roster debut on Monday Night Raw instead of going through NXT. The caveat, as explained, was that he would be used as a “qualified” enhancement talent, as the red brand’s then-executive director, Paul Heyman, was looking for such wrestlers. In addition, the publication noted that Storm was chosen for the role because of his reputation...
CLEVELAND – In his first public event since trading fire with President Trump at a very combustible presidential debate, Democratic nominee Joe Biden told the crowd the president “lies to you” and emphasized that his showdown with Trump “was supposed to be about you.” The comments from the former vice president, who for decades commuted daily on Amtrak from his home in Delaware to the nation’s capital, came as he kicked off a daylong tour through eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, two crucial battleground states that will likely help decide the winner of the presidential election. DEBATE PAYS INSTANT DIVIDENDS FOR BIDEN AS CAMPAIGN TOUTS FUNDRAISING RECORD “Last night’s debate in this election was supposed to be about you … all the people who make the difference,” Biden said Wednesday morning at a campaign event in Cleveland, minutes before launching his train trip. Tuesday night’s debate in Cleveland was considered the ugliest in modern history, with repeated interruptions and both candidates hurling charges and insults at each other. But while the president exclusively spoke directly to Biden or to the moderator...

Friday is a dark and depressing day because it was supposed to be the start of the football season for the Wisconsin Badgers. We were scheduled to play the Indiana Hoosiers today. It was supposed to be our first step forward in the journey towards a national title. I’ve had some dark days in my life. We all go through struggles. I’ve had girls call me ugly, I had college administrators who more or less told me I wasn’t going anywhere in life and I’ve had to fight through a lot of adversity. The Wisconsin football season getting canceled was worse than all of it. It’s among...
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had her hair styled in a salon without wearing a mask, according to the salon's owner. Security footage from eSalon in San Francisco appeared to show the California Democrat walking through the salon without a face mask while salons in the city are supposed to be closed because of the coronavirus. Erica Kious, the salon owner, told Fox News she was appalled to see Pelosi in the salon on Monday. Kious said that one of the stylists who rented a chair in the salon notified her that Pelosi had requested an appointment. Kious said she was shocked to see that Pelosi had made the request, given that local ordinance only allowed outdoor services as of Sept. 1. "I was like, are you kidding me right now? Do I let this happen? What do I do?" Kious said. Kious noted that she "can't control" what chair renters in her salon do, so the appointment went on as scheduled. Security footage shows employees donning masks while Pelosi walks through the room unmasked, though it...

President Donald Trump took Ivanka Trump with him on the campaign trail to North Carolina Monday to make up for the convention not being held in the state the whole week.   'I love North Carolina. And I promised my sister-in-law that I would say that with particular emphasis because Lara Trump has told me more about this amazing state than I think just about anywhere,' Ivanka Trump told a crowd at a food production plant in Mills River, outside of Asheville. 'I may know more about North Carolina than I do about New York and I've lived there most of my life.'  Both Ivanka and the president were making up for North Carolina getting to host only a partial Republican convention, which President Trump blamed squarely on the state's Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper - and not his decision to move the big stadium events to Jacksonville, Florida, a plan that had to be cancelled due to COVID-19.  First daughter and White House adviser Ivanka Trump accompanied her father on the campaign trail Monday, making stops in North Carolina, the...
