THOMAS TUCHEL has confirmed Marcos Alonso and Kai Havertz picked up injuries in Chelsea's 3-2 defeat to West Ham on Saturday. The Blues dropped from first to third in the Premier League table after the Hammers came from behind twice to win late on at the London Stadium. 2Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has provided injury updates on a number of his players following the defeat at West HamCredit: Richard Pelham / The Sun And in a further blow for Tuchel, he lost two more first-team players as Havertz was withdrawn at half-time following a challenge from ex-team-mate Kurt Zouma. Meanwhile Alonso was forced off in the 72nd minute after experiencing pain in his back. The Spanish left-back had been deputising in the absence of Ben Chilwell, who is out for at least six weeks with a knee injury. Chelsea were also without midfielders N'Golo Kante (knee) and Mateo Kovacic (hamstring) for the clash against the Hammers, along with centre-back Trevor Chalobah (hamstring). Tuchel then revealed in his post-match press conference that Italy star Jorginho has been battling with his own...
Getty Derek Carr with Greg Olson. Meet the new Las Vegas Raiders, same as the old Raiders. After starting the season 5-2, the team is now 6-6 with a 17-15 loss at home to the Washington Football Team. Though they can still make the playoffs, 2021 certainly feels like another year wasted for the silver and black. If things don’t change, the Raiders will miss the playoffs for the third straight year after starting off the season hot. Sunday’s loss lies solely with the offense as the defense put up a strong performance. The offensive gameplan from offensive coordinator Greg Olson was uninspiring and quarterback Derek Carr had a poor performance. He missed a number of throws that he normally makes, including an overthrow to an open Bryan Edwards on a two-point conversion that could’ve changed the outcome of the game. There’s plenty of blame to go around for the loss but the playcalling on offense has to be taken to task. Olson has put together some strong gameplans against the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos....
Getty Andy Dalton of the Chicago Bears threw four INTs Week 13 in the team's 33-22 loss to the Cardinals. Andy Dalton didn’t even try to sugar coat it. The veteran quarterback for the Chicago Bears threw four interceptions in the team’s Week 13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals while filling in for injured rookie Justin Fields. It was the fifth time in his career Dalton threw 4+ picks, and after the game, he gave a frank and self-critical assessment of his performance. When asked if his first interception, a high and wide ball over the middle intended for receiver Jakeem Grant was a good throw, Dalton did not mince words. “No. I left it a little high and a little behind him,” the Red Rifle admitted. “The thing that is unfortunate in this league is that tipped balls usually don’t find the ground. They usually find the other team’s hands. We saw that three times today.” ALL the latest Bears news straight to your inbox! Subscribe to the Heavy on Bears newsletter here! Join Heavy on...
ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons wanted to try to run the ball against the NFL’s top rushing defense. That part worked out. It just wasn’t enough against Tom Brady and Tampa Bay. Cordarrelle Patterson had 78 of Atlanta’s 121 yards rushing, but Brady passed for four touchdowns in the Buccaneers’ 30-17 win on Sunday. The Falcons dropped to 0-7 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium since Nov. 29, 2020. They have been outscored 140-66 in losing all five games in Atlanta this season. They fell to 0-10 all-time against Brady. Not exactly what first-year coach Arthur Smith was looking for. “We’ve got to be cleaner with the football, there’s no doubt about that,” Smith said. “Deflate is not a word we use. We’re going to keep fighting and swinging. Call it damaging, call it deflating, but we don’t use those words. We’ll continue to swing and fight and we’ll fight ’til the finish.” Matt Ryan was forced into passing situations as the Falcons tried to battle back from a second-half deficit. The Buccaneers finished with five sacks, including two apiece for...

AS the future King of England, we can’t imagine there are many things that actually embarrass Prince William. But his surprise performance of Livin on a Prayer with Taylor Swift and Bon Jovi back in November 2013? Well, that’s certainly one of them. AP:Associated Press 2 Prince William revealed he was in a ‘trance’ during the performance In his new Apple+ podcast Time to Walk, the Duke of Cambridge recalled how he is big fans of both the musicians and was “knocked off his feet” when he saw them at the Centrepoint fundraising event. Draymond Green wasn’t very good the first time the Warriors and the Suns played this week. So Friday night at Chase Center, he was the best player on the court for Golden State in one of the Dubs’ most impressive wins of this exceptionally impressive season. By now you should know that the box score cannot possibly encapsulate everything that Green does to affect winning on the basketball court, and Friday night’s 118-96 win was the perfect example — though the box score numbers looked pretty good. Green showed, once again, why the Warriors dominated the Western Conference for half a decade and why they could again be the favorites after a two-year playoff hiatus. Politicians performed as expected in Glasgow Re. “Experts wanted more from nations’ agreement,” Page A4, Nov. 15: There is no magic bullet that will cure global warming. The answer involves a basket of solutions I’m sure weren’t discussed sufficiently at the recent world meeting. The author was right of course, but these meetings are not about solutions. They are about talking about solutions. After all, these people are politicians. It’s naïve to think otherwise. Teofimo Lopez and Brandon Figueroa dropped close losses in their boxing bouts along with their titles, but they should hold their heads high in defeat.  Long before a single loss was toxic to a boxer’s career, it simply meant that the other guy had a better night during the no-decision era of boxing. Times have changed, and the public is much more critical of a fighter’s performance, but Teofimo Lopez and Brandon Figueroa have nothing to hang their heads about. Both Lopez and Figueroa lost their Saturday, Nov. 27 main events, undefeated records, and titles. That’s a lot of disappointment to take on in a moment after grueling contests. Neither fighter handled their disappointment particularly well, but you can’t blame them for being irritated amid frustration, exhaustion, and anger following a hard-fought performance. Lopez and Figueroa were shocked that they were judged as the losers in their respective matchups.  Each has a logical point to feel those emotions. One judge saw Stephen Fulton vs. Figueroa as an even fight. In Lopez’s case, one judge had him winning the battle 114-113....
NEW YORK (AP) — Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Elena Ferrante adaptation “The Lost Daughter” won four Gotham Awards including best feature film at the 31st Gotham Awards, the annual New York independent film celebration that serves as a boozy kickoff to Oscar season. Getty Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts. The Philadelphia Eagles were surging heading into MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Winners of three of their last four games, the Eagles offense was flying high. Led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia was averaging 34.5 points per game over the last month and looking to be nipping at the heels of the Dallas Cowboys for first place in the NFC East. However, things came quickly crashing down in Week 12. The New York Giants and their 27th-ranked defense halted Philadelphia’s offense in their tracks en route to a 13-7 upset victory over the Birds. Hurts committed three of the Eagles’ four turnovers on the afternoon, producing one of the more eye-sore quarterback performances of the season. Yet, while doubt in Philly begins to stockpile regarding Hurts’ legitimacy as a viable NFL signal-caller, Giants standout safety Xavier McKinney has a message for those questioning his former Alabama teammate. “Well, I mean he’s a great quarterback. Obviously, like you said, I played him many times before, at least practiced against him, so I was familiar...

Here’s what the Baltimore Sun sports staff had to say immediately after the Ravens’ 16-10 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday night at M&T Bank Stadium: Jonas Shaffer, reporter: As long as the Ravens (8-3) have a defense as good as Sunday’s iteration and a kicker as unassailable as Justin Tucker, they can hang with anybody. Lamar Jackson’s four interceptions can’t be glossed over, especially given the offense’s recent rough patch, but ultimately, the Ravens just keep doing enough. Division games are always knock-out, drag-’em-down affairs. The Ravens were just the tougher team Sunday. To hold off the Bengals (7-4) in the AFC North, they’ll need more of that. Childs Walker, reporter: The Ravens did not look like the best team in the AFC, even if that’s what their record says they are for the moment. They made everything look difficult on offense, and that started with a dreadful passing performance by their franchise player, Lamar Jackson. They have scored a combined 42 points over their last three games. Right now, they are neither a grind-it-out running...
The Panthers may have just lost their shot at the playoffs after losing to the Dolphins, and Cam Newton is the one to blame. The Miami Dolphins defense has given up the most yards of any NFL team this season. They have allowed the most passing yards, fifth-most passing touchdowns, and the 11th-highest yards per play this season. Opposing offenses score on 40.8 percent of their drives. So how did Cam Newton go 5-of-21 for only 97 yards with two interceptions? Newton put together a horrific quarterback rating of 5.8. The scale ranges from 1-100. Newton was benched in the fourth quarter, giving P.J. Walker the opportunity to finish the game. Walker, in nearly 33 percent of the snaps Newton got, completed as many passes on half as many attempts, grabbed just 10 fewer passing yards, and had a 40.4 QBR. All while eating three more sacks than Newton.Cam Newton should consider retirement after failing so dramaticallyNewton has struggled quite a bit the last few seasons, but the performance against the Dolphins was the culmination of those struggles. BOSTON (CBS) — Two weeks ago, a euphoric Cam Newton shouted to the world that he was back. On Sunday, Cam was benched. In his second start in his second stint with the Panthers, Newton struggled mightily against the Miami Dolphins. Newton completed just five of his 21 passes for 92 yards, with no passing touchdowns and two interceptions. He did run for a touchdown (with five rushing yards on three carries), but that wasn’t nearly enough for him to remain in the game in the fourth quarter.               moreby Dr. Rainer Zitelmann   One of the most frequently raised arguments against capitalism is that it is the primary driver of environmental pollution and climate change. But if we compare Yale University’s ranking of countries with the highest environmental performance with the Heritage Foundation’s Index of Economic Freedom, a very different correlation emerges. For more than 20 years, Yale University has been publishing the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) and ranking countries according to their environmental health and ecosystem vitality. The EPI uses 32 performance indicators across eleven issue categories: Air Quality Sanitation & Drinking Water Heavy Metals Waste Management Biodiversity & Habitat Ecosystem Services Fisheries Climate Change Pollution Emissions Water Resources Agriculture According to Yale University’s analyses, Denmark, Luxembourg, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and France are the highest ranked countries, followed by Austria, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Germany. The report states, “One of the consistent lessons of the EPI is that achieving sustainability requires sufficient economic prosperity to fund public health and environmental infrastructure.” The researchers find that there is a clear positive correlation between environmental performance and country wealth,...

(CNN)Barcelona limped to a goalless draw at home to Benfica in Xavi's first Champions League match as head coach, meaning the team now needs to win away at Bayern Munich to guarantee progress through to the knockout stages.Given the contrasting form of both sides -- Bayern has won all five its group stage games so far, including a 3-0 Camp Nou hammering of Barça -- that result seems unlikely, but it's not all doom and gloom for the Catalan club.Yusuf Demir's standout individual performance in the first half was one exceedingly bright spot on an otherwise frustrating evening, with the 18-year-old providing an exciting glimpse of what his future may hold.Demir, already a senior Austrian international, joined the Blaugrana on loan from Rapid Vienna in the summer with an option to make the move permanent for a reported €10 million ($11.25M).The forward has only sparingly been given playing time in recent weeks, clocking just 34 minutes of first team football since September prior to starting against Benfica.Read MoreREAD: Barcelona appoints club legend Xavi as new coachRemember the name. Tiffany wasn’t alone during a performance that ended on a sour note. On Sunday, the ‘80s pop star was in Melbourne, Florida for a show where she lost her cool. In a video obtained by TMZ on Monday, the 50-year-old was seen struggling as she attempted to belt out her hit single "I Think We’re Alone Now." Tiffany, whose real name is Tiffany Darwish, was heard singing hoarsely and even skipped some lyrics at some points. In response, a spokesperson for the singer told Fox News that "Tiffany lost her voice and was frustrated with her performance." While some fans in the video were seen supporting Tiffany by singing along, towards the end of the track, the singer may have witnessed someone from the crowd heckling, which prompted her to say "F—k you, guys." Blake Shelton thinks that one of his artists, in particular, has “completely changed” the competition. Week three of live shows featured songs chosen for each of the artists by their fans. The episode featured coaches Ariana Grande, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Blake Shelton mentoring their contestants through songs chosen by fans before featuring each of the performances. Labor 9 p.m. At the request of Australia’s leading trade union, it is considering changing its wage structure for seasonal agricultural workers. © Pixabay Seasonal agricultural workers in Australia are no longer paid by publication, but only by the hour. It is a practice that some describe as “significantly lower pay”, while others see it as a bulwark against manpower shortages. In his orchard, which is planted with fruit-bearing cherry trees, Australian archaeologist Michael Kuni praised the payment for the harvest. Seasonal workers. “It’s a system that makes sense. According to information revealed by Diaz, the band was on stage when shots rang out from an unknown location, grazing one of his bandmates in the head and striking a second in the shoulder. (CNN)Thought you had a good Sunday? Jonathan Taylor might have a claim for one of the best out there. The running back scored five touchdowns in the Indianapolis Colts' 41-15 dismantling of the previously high-flying Buffalo Bills on Sunday. In doing so, Taylor set a new franchise record, and thrust himself into the race for this season's NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP). "We gotta start talking about (Taylor) for MVP," Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. tweeted. However, after his amazing performance, in which he carried the ball 32 times for 185 yards and the five TDs, Taylor stressed the importance of the whole offense, not just him. Read More"The Colts' offensive identity is all of us all together," Taylor said. "Everything that you saw today was the culmination of the defense getting the ball back to us, creating turnovers, and then the offense being on one accord -- being able to communicate no matter what front, what pressure they bring, being able to execute."Taylor celebrates a touchdown with Jack Doyle during the third quarter against the Bills. In his performance,...

The Kansas City Chiefs moved to 7-4 with a 19-9 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, but the offense was still a long way from its best. There will surely be plenty of excitement around the Kansas City Chiefs after they stymied the Dallas Cowboys offense to move to 7-4, boosting hopes of them claiming the number one seed in the AFC despite a largely uneven season. While the defense deserves significant credit for holding Dak Prescott and Co. to just nine points, it is premature to start crowning the Chiefs as being back to their best following an offensive performance that was largely uninspiring. Kansas City scored points on each of its first three series and, after Clyde Edwards-Helaire put them 16-3 to the good, it would have been fair to expect another prolific showing akin to the Chiefs’ 41-point blitz of the Las Vegas Raiders last week. That did not materialize, with the Chiefs scoring points on just one further possession thereafter, Patrick Mahomes sacked three times and picked off for the 11th time this season as Kansas...
Getty Las Vegas Raiders QB Derek Carr. The Las Vegas Raiders are no longer in a slump. They are a bad team that is playing badly. It’s hard to imagine that this team once sat atop the AFC West with a 5-2 record. On Sunday, the team was dealt their second straight blowout at home in a 32-12 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. While the Bengals did score a lot of points, in the end, this loss is entirely on the offense. Cincinnati had the ball for 37 minutes while the Raiders only had it for 23. It was an uninspired and disastrous performance by a team that is in free fall. The AFC is still wide open for the taking but it looks like Las Vegas is already starting to set its sights on 2022. At the center of the Raiders’ struggles is quarterback Derek Carr. Through seven games, he looked like an MVP candidate and was playing as well as any quarterback in the NFL. Unfortunately, he’s crashed back to earth over the last three games...
