A serial criminal who sparked chaos at Atlanta's main airport after bringing a gun through security, then accidentally firing it when guards went to seize it has turned himself in to cops. Kenny Wells, 42, surrendered at the Clayton County Jail on Tuesday after his firearm went off at a security checkpoint at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on November 20. The gun had discharged during a TSA check after convicted felon Wells had lunged onto the bag containing the firearm which he then ran off with. His illegally-owned weapon was later found at a trash can at the airport, which is the United States' busiest by passenger numbers.  Wells faces charges of carrying a weapon or long gun at a commercial service airport, reckless conduct, discharging of firearms on property of another and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently being held without bond.   No life-threatening injuries were reported during the shooting and the incident remains under investigation.  Footage showed panicked travelers fleeing in the aftermath of the shots ringing out, with hundreds of flights delayed as...

Brian Kelly wants to bring Notre Dame coordinators Marcus Freeman and Tommy Rees with him to LSU. With Brian Kelly taking the LSU job, the former Notre Dame head coach reportedly wants to bring with his two top coordinators, Marcus Freeman and Tommy Rees with him to Baton Rouge. This was Freeman’s first year in South Bend, as he had been the defensive coordinator for Luke Fickell’s Cincinnati Bearcats the season prior. Interestingly enough, Freeman nearly replaced Bo Pelini as the LSU coordinator last offseason prior to joining up with Kelly in 2020. If Freeman goes to LSU, the expectation is he would be the highest-paid defensive coordinator in college football, according to The Athletic’s Pete Sampson. Freeman has been mentioned as a possible candidate to be the Notre Dame head coach, so leaving for the LSU job would indicate he isn’t a serious candidate to succeed Kelly there. As far as Rees is concerned, he played quarterback for Kelly at Notre Dame is an offensive coordinator on the rise. LSU is also making a hard run at Notre Dame OC Tommy...

DEAR MISS MANNERS: My daughter married into a very nice family. They are a fairly small group, as are we, so we have celebrated holidays together since our children married, usually alternating hosting. We did this on Thanksgiving and I hosted. I prepared the same meal I would’ve prepared regardless — and, yes, it represents a great deal of work, which I am happy to do. When they host, however, it’s a more modest repast, not because of finances, but simply because they don’t have much interest in cooking or baking. I was concerned, after one or two of these frozen-chicken-cutlet, can-of-mixed-vegetables events, that they would feel we were showing off; they have sometimes looked a bit astounded at our table. ROME — Pope Francis will once again shuttle migrants back to Italy after his upcoming visit to Cyprus, the Associated Press (AP) reported Thursday. Cyprus government spokesman Marios Pelekanos told AP that the pope intends to transfer an unspecified number of migrants from Cyprus to Italy after his three-day visit to the country in December. In early November, the Holy See Press Office announced that the pope would undertake a 5-day papal trip to Cyprus and Greece, spending December 2-4 in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, then visiting the Greek city of Athens and the island of Lesbos from December 4-6, after which he will return to Rome. The last time the pope visited Lesbos in 2016 he brought a dozen Syrian Muslims back to Italy with him on the papal plane. The Vatican describes the pope’s move as a “gesture of welcome” and enlisted the community of Sant’Egidio to provide the initial hospitality for the migrants. A D.C. Superior Court judge has again extended the period for bringing criminal cases to trial. Chief Judge Anita Josey-Herring first extended the time period on March 15, 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic. In D.C., defendants must normally be indicted within 90 days of the issuance of an order of detention, and their trials must begin within 100 days of that order. There’s an exception for charges of murder and assault with intent to kill while armed; those charges carry nine-month deadlines. Under the latest order, those limits are suspended until March 15 for indictments, April 15 for the nine-month cases, and April 26 for the 100-day limits for trials. Doug Buchanan, director of media and public relations for D.C. courts, said the pandemic has forced the courts to employ several precautionary measures to limit the exposure of COVID-19, which in turn limited the courts’ ability to handle trials. Buchanan said that, notwithstanding the extension of the judicial emergency, the courts returned to full operation in early September, with ongoing physical distancing requirements and space limitations that have restricted...

Amanda Knox has called on Rudy Guede to 'restore her wrongly damaged reputation' and take full responsibility for the murder of Meredith Kercher as he completed his sentence for the killing. Guede, 34, was formally released on Tuesday 14 years after the grisly murder and sexual assault of 21-year-old Kercher in Perugia, Italy, in November 2007.  He was convicted in 2008 for the murder that also saw Kercher's American flatmate Knox and her Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito jailed but then sensationally acquitted. Guede was found guilty after his DNA was discovered on Kercher's body despite his claims that he was in the bathroom listening to music when she was killed. In a thread posted on Twitter, Knox wrote on Tuesday that she wants Guede to help clear her name by admitting he acted alone in the murder. She wrote: 'Rudy Guede, the man who killed Meredith Kercher and falsely accused me, just had his sentence reduced yet again.
