ATLANTA (AP) — Miles Bridges scored 32 points and the Charlotte Hornets, without four players, leaned on their best 3-point shooting game of the season and beat the Atlanta Hawks 130-127 on Sunday night. Kelly Oubre Jr. made six 3s and scored 28 points for Charlotte. The Hornets made a season-high 17 3s. John Collins led Atlanta with a season-best 31 points and 12 rebounds. Bridges’ 3 with 4:26 remaining gave Charlotte a 115-113 lead that it didn’t relinquish. Oubre added another key 3 to push the lead to 122-116. Trae Young’s jumper with 22 seconds remaining cut Charlotte’s lead to three points. Young scored 25 points and had a season-high 15 assists. Among the four Charlotte players held out after being placed in the NBA’s health and safety protocols was leading scorer LaMelo Ball. Also, starting guard Terry Rozier, the third-leading scorer, and two more usual rotation players — center Mason Plumlee and forward Jalen McDaniels — were held out. They’ll be sidelined for at least 10 days. Oubre, Ish Smith and Nick Richards moved into the starting lineup....

That’s five straight wins. That’s a 6-7 record now. That’s the Miami Dolphins’ continued climb out of a 1-7 hole with a 20-9 win Sunday against the struggling New York Giants. Here are 10 thoughts on the game: 1. Stat of the game: Nine Giants points. Three field goals. It’s easy to see what’s fueled this run of wins. It wasn’t just Sunday’s game where the Dolphins defense held down a troubled Giants offense with back-up quarterback Mike Glennon. Look at what the Dolphins defense has given up during the five wins: nine points to Houston; 10 to Baltimore; 17 to the New York Jets; and 10 to Carolina. 2. Tua Tagovailoa is like a good point guard, making the smart pass to the open guy. He completed 30 of 41 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. He hit two big, third-down completions on a game-sealing drive in the final minutes, one to Devante Parker (see below) and the other a 17-yarder to Mike Gesicki. Mostly, he did what was asked by scoring enough but not making...
A house on Lake Tahoe’s north shore has sold for $47.5 million, putting it among the region’s priciest residential properties. The property, called Spirit of the Lake, is at 859 Lakeshore Blvd. in Nevada’s Incline Village. It went on the market in August 2020 with an asking price of $44 million, according to Realtor.com, and the sale closed on Nov. 10 of this year. According to Washoe County assessor data, the four-bedroom house was completed in 2006, several years after the 1.4-acre lakefront parcel was bought by an entity associated with Dean and Madylon Meiling. The couple own Chemeon, which makes specialty metal coatings, and are prominent philanthropists in the Tahoe community. The house has a home theater, exercise room, 1,200-bottle wine cellar, elevator and seven-car garage, the listing said. Included in the sale were a grand piano and a high-end Cobalt motorboat. The selling price puts it just below the Thunderbird Lodge (the Whittell Estate), which sold for $50 million in 1998 to developer Del Webb, and Tranquility, which sold in 2013 for $48 million. Both those properties, on...

FOXBORO (CBS) — It’s hard to draw up a better start than the one the Patriots got off to in Week 12 against the Tennessee Titans. The defense forced a three-and-out to start the game, and then Mac Jones led the offense down a short field into the end zone. After Matt Judon ended Tennessee’s first possession with a third-down sack on Ryan Tannehill, Jones and company thanked the defense for a short field. With the drive starting at the Tennessee 37, the Pats offense marched to the end zone on nine plays. The drive ended with Jones finding Kendrick Bourne in the back of the end zone on a third-and-goal pass to give New England an early 7-0 lead. It was a perfect back-shoulder throw by Jones, and a beautiful catch by Bourne to give the Patriots their early lead. Bourne hauled in Jones’ pass despite having Kevin Byard all over him in the end zone. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders got the third-down help they needed from Dallas cornerback Anthony Brown. Daniel Carlson kicked a 29-yard field goal in overtime after Brown’s fourth pass-interference penalty kept the drive alive, and the Raiders ended a three-game losing streak by beating the Cowboys 36-33 on Thursday. READ MORE: Motorcyclist Killed After Hitting Sign Along I-80 In Placer CountyCarlson’s career-best fifth field goal came after Brown was called for interference on Zay Jones on third-and-18. All four of Brown’s interference penalties came on third-down incompletions. “The penalties obviously helped,” said Carr, whose 373 yards passing included a 56-yard touchdown to DeSean Jackson for the first points. “If they weren’t holding, we probably would have hit those plays.” The Raiders had just two third-down conversions total the previous two games and were 3 of 13 in this one. But Brown topped that total all by himself. “Just one of them days,” Brown said. “I feel like I was in position for all of them, tried to turn my head. On some of them...
CHICAGO (CBS) — With rookie Justin Fields still nursing injured ribs, Andy Dalton will get the start at quarterback on Thursday when the Bears visit the Lions on Thanksgiving Day. Head coach Matt Nagy confirmed Tuesday Dalton will get the start on Thursday, while Fields most likel will be inactive. That would make Nick Foles the backup against the Lions. I think it’s day-by-day. He’s been doing pretty good, and we’ve just got to keep an eye on that,” Nagy said. Fields left Sunday’s game against the Ravens after injuring his ribs in the third quarter. The Bears (3-7) were hoping Fields would build on his best outing as a pro on Sunday against the Ravens. Instead, he struggled before heading to the locker room in the third quarter,...
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey Devils are going to use a third jersey for the first time in franchise history. The Devils announced Tuesday that a black sweater with the word ‘Jersey’ on the front will be used for the first time on Dec. 8 against Philadelphia. The franchise currently has home and away uniforms. The home sweaters are red and the ones on the road are white. The crest is an encircled NJ with devils’ horns on top of the J. The pants are black. When they first moved to New Jersey from Colorado in 1982, the Devils’ colors were red, green and white with the team wearing green pants until 1992. They changed to black pants that season and took the green out of the sweater and replaced it with black. The Devils have used the original jerseys on retro days, but the new black one will be the third jersey for at least the next three years. The Devils said the black-inspired, red-shadowed design weaves together Jersey pride, Devils history and the state’s professional hockey...

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Las Vegas Raiders have not put it together where it matters most since their bye week. The Raiders lost their third straight game, 32-13 to the Cincinnati Bengals, falling to 5-5 and further out of position in the AFC West behind the first-place Kansas City Chiefs. Part of the reason for the Raiders’ skid: their failures on third down and in the red zone. The Raiders rank 24th in the league in third-down conversion rate (42 of 118, 35.5%). They came into the game ranked 26th in red-zone success, scoring 18 TDs in 34 trips inside the 20-yard line, and were 1 for 3 against the Bengals. Dating to last Sunday night’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas had 14 straight unsuccessful third-down attempts. The first conversion against Cincinnati didn’t come until late in the fourth quarter when Derek Carr found Hunter Renfrow for 17 yards. Two plays later, Carr was strip-sacked by Trey Hendrickson. “We’re out of sync,” Carr said. “We’re not doing good enough on third down, we’re not doing good...

Just before the start of Wimbledon in late June, Roger Federer recalled a conversation about retirement that he had with Pete Sampras a decade ago. "He was wondering how much longer I had in the tank. This was when I was just hitting 30," Federer said. "He was thinking I was coming towards the end or something, just because it was, for him, normal that at 31, 33 — with the career that we’ve had, with all the sacrifice, in a way, you have to go through — it’s hard to keep on pushing for more years on tour." CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM Federer, who turned 40 in August, went on to explain that he never thought he’d still be going at this age, especially after a series of knee operations. New York (CNN Business)Rivian, a 12-year-old startup that's never sold a single vehicle, is now the third most valuable carmaker in the world. The electric vehicle maker has been public for all of one week, but its share price has more than doubled in that time, valuing Rivian at more than $140 billion — just ahead of Volkswagen ($139 billion), and in third place behind Toyota ($306 billion) and Tesla ($1 trillion). MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A woman is expected to live 81 years in this country. That means one third of her life time will be spent menopause. There’s still a lot of stigma when it come to women and aging, but a Minnesota woman is hoping to change that conversation and give women some helpful products to ease a tricky time in life. “Women enter menopause without knowing much about it,” Dr. Ekta Kapoor, assistant director at Mayo Clinic Center for Women’s Health, said. Menopause is Kapoor’s main line of research. She says more than three quarters of women will experience the most common symptoms of menopause, like hot flashes and night sweats. But there are others. “The things that they don’t correlate with menopause are the other very common symptoms. Anxiety, mood changes, which could be subtle,” Kapoor said. “The other big one is sleep … After a point it becomes a very complex web. A woman who is not sleeping well night after night is not going to have a great mood. If she ends up getting depressed, she’s...

RALEIGH, N.C. The Gamecocks scored the first six points and offered a composed response any time the Wolfpack tried to make a move. Cooke paced an offensive team effort that shot 49%, while preseason Associated Press All-American Aliyah Boston controlled the paint and helped shut down Elissa Cunane – N.C. SAN FRANCISCO — Behind Stephen Curry’s scoring explosion, the Warriors turned in their best offensive performance of the season Monday night against Atlanta. It’s no coincidence Golden State scored a season-high 127 points on a night when Curry dropped an NBA-best 50, too, but it was also the Warriors’ third straight game topping 120, and they haven’t finished game this season without filling three columns on the scoreboard. “Every possession it seemed like we got what we wanted,” said Curry, who also dished out 10 dimes to become the third player in franchise history with a 50-point/10-assist double-double. That’s how it’s been going for Golden State, even on nights with less-than-masterclass performances from Curry. The Warriors lead the NBA in scoring (115.2 ppg) and are fifth in offensive efficiency (111.9 points per 100 possessions). Combined with a league-leading defensive rating, Golden State looks to be back to its championship ways. Coach Steve Kerr and players have made many comparisons to the depth of the Warriors’ past “Strength in Numbers” squads, but the link to previous years became...

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Warren Buffett’s company reported a third-quarter profit that was roughly one-third the amount of last year’s because of much smaller paper gains on the value of its investments, but most of its businesses continue to recover from the effects of the pandemic. Berkshire Hathaway Inc. reported $10.3 billion net income, or $6,882 per Class A share, in the third quarter. A year ago, it reported $30.1 billion, or $18,994 per Class A share, when it recorded a $24.8 billion paper gain on its investments. This year, Berkshire recorded only a $3.8 billion paper gain on its investments. Buffett has long said Berkshire’s operating earnings offer a better view of quarterly performance because they exclude investments and derivatives, which can vary widely. By that measure, Berkshire’s operating earnings grew by 18% to $6.47 billion, or $4,330.60 per Class A share, up from $5.48 billion, or $3,452.45 per Class A share, last year. The four analysts surveyed by FactSet expected Berkshire to report operating earnings of $4,536.17 per Class A share. Most of Berkshire’s eclectic assortment of...
(CNN)Democrats are still trying to include protections for undocumented immigrants in the massive economic bill that would expand the nation's social safety net in a last-ditch effort, even if it's not exactly what they'd hoped it would be. But they still need to get buy-in from their colleagues.A looming concern within the Democratic caucus is casting a tough vote in the House only to see it stripped out by the Senate, where the parliamentarian still needs to review a proposal to include immigration provisions in the bill. That includes House Democrats in tough reelection races in red districts who have privately shared reservations over voting on the House version of the bill when immigration is likely to be stripped from the package and moderate Democratic senators, such as Sen. Joe Manchin, oppose the measures. It's especially created tension with members who have been publicly advocating for these measures. Three House Democrats -- Reps. Adriano Espaillat of New York, Chuy García of Illinois and Lou Correa of California -- have said they would not support the economic bill unless immigration is in...
SAN FRANCISCO — Something appeared awry with Jordan Poole’s eye when Steve Kerr called timeout 33 seconds into this one. That early stoppage, however, proved to be the spark plug for a 22-point performance from the hot-or-not third-year shooting guard, whose scorching hot hand Wednesday night led the Warriors to a 114-92 win over the Hornets. The Warriors connected on nearly 40% of their shots from deep, allowing Golden State to keep pace with Charlotte despite sloppy play and a quiet night from Stephen Curry. Poole 7 3-pointers were the most of his career, and his 22 first-half points trail only Curry for the most by a Warriors player in a half this season. Golden State took charge with a 21-6 run to close the third quarter, including a stretch of almost 8 minutes without allowing a Hornets field goal. The Warriors overcame 16 turnovers, including 10 in the first half. Playing fast and loose with the basketball continues to bite the Warriors, who say their goal is to keep it to a dozen or fewer giveaways...

Over one-third of voters view Tuesday’s elections in New Jersey and Virginia as a “referendum” on President Joe Biden, a Rasmussen Reports survey released on Election Day revealed. Rasmussen Reports asked voters how they generally view the New Jersey governor’s race, between incumbent Gov. Phil Murphy (D) and Republican Jack Ciattarelli, and the Virginia governor’s race, between former Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) and Republican challenger Glenn Youngkin. Do they believe the races are “more about local issues or more a referendum on President Biden?” U.S. President Joe Biden meets with a bipartisan group of city and state political leaders, including New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. (Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images). A plurality, 36 percent, said they view the races as a “referendum” on President Biden, while 35 percent said the races are “more about local issues.” Another 30 percent said they are not sure.  Republicans are more likely than Democrats and independents to view the races as a referendum on the president, as 40 percent expressed those sentiments. One-third of Democrats and 34 percent of independents agreed. However, 38 percent of Democrats believe...
Gabe Ginsberg | Moment | Getty Images Criminals are using the promise of a third stimulus check to steal money from unsuspecting victims, according to the Federal Trade Commission. The American Rescue Plan, which President Joe Biden signed in March, authorized a third round of pandemic-era payments, of up to $1,400 a person. The IRS is sending the payments to eligible households through the end of 2021. The IRS determines eligibility and check amount based on income and other factors. The agency issued most payments automatically, based on data from a recent tax return or an online tool for people who don't typically file a return. However, some eligible people still haven't received payments; others who got a first or second round may think they qualify but may not due to different criteria required to receive the third round. Carter, who is out with an ankle injury, must sit out at least three games. He’s eligible return Nov. 28 against Philadelphia. NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. (WCCO) — A family that moved back to Minnesota this summer has waited months for their household goods and personal belongings as everything they own is stuck 1,300 miles away. Terry Xiong and Aninta Vang’s new home in New Brighton is furnished with empty walls and bare rooms. The couple has five children who eat on the floor because there’s no place to sit. In the kitchen, no refrigerator is seen and air beds are set up in each room. It’s a lifestyle the couple was not prepared for. Quarterback Taylor Heinicke hit wide receiver DeAndre Carter for a 20-yard touchdown with 38 seconds to play in the third quarter. The touchdown capped an impressive 94-yard drive and tied the score at 10. Jaret Patterson ran for 24 yards on the drive and Heinicke hit Adam Humphries for 23 yards on a third down. The jurors in the Derek Chauvin trial denied they felt public pressure to convict the Minneapolis cop who knelt on George Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes, causing him to die. Five jurors and two alternates told CNN’s Don Lemon Tonight on Thursday that race was never mentioned during the jury deliberations and that initially a few of them wanted to acquit Chauvin of third-degree murder. They also described the traumatic experiences of having to watch the video of Floyd’s death repeatedly while trying to come to agreement on a verdict.  Some of the jurors said they were left so scarred emotionally that they needed therapy and were experiencing nightmares. Chauvin, who is white, was convicted of second-degree manslaughter as well as second- and third-degree murder in the death of Floyd, who was black. He is currently serving a 22-and-a-half year prison sentence in a Minnesota penitentiary. Chauvin plans to appeal the verdict. The May 25, 2020 incident in Minneapolis was filmed by a 17-year-old bystander and shared on social media, where it quickly went viral. The video clip ignited...
Mike McDaniel has moved on from the 49ers’ Week 7 loss to Indianapolis, but that doesn’t mean it still doesn’t sting. “When you make yourself vulnerable to not think about anything but victory and lose, it hurts,” the 49ers’ offensive coordinator said after practice. “It’s been hurting for about the last month.” Which, not coincidentally, is about the time the 49ers went into the tank when it comes to converting on third down. It’s an area McDaniel and coach Kyle Shanahan hope to have rectified Sunday when the 49ers (2-4) visit the Chicago Bears (3-4) at Soldier Field. As it stands, the 49ers are with the dregs of the NFL in that department, ranking 30th with a percentage of 31.4 percent (22-for-70), ahead of only Jacksonville and Chicago, which are both at 31.3. The last time the 49ers displayed any efficiency on third down was Sept. 26, when they were 7-of-11 in a 30-28 loss to Green Bay. In three games since, the 49ers are 6-for-36, or 16.7 percent. They bottomed out with a 1-for-11 performance...
