I, like everyone else, have been horrified by the accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins by actor Alec Baldwin on the set of the movie 'Rust' ever since I heard the news in October. When I saw the trailer for Alec's first one-on-one interview with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, I had the same reaction that CNN journalist Andrew Kaczynski had. He tweeted 'I know it's TV, an industry in which I work, but I find something unseemly about this big promo/hoopla with graphics and dramatic sounds to talk about a woman's tragic death'. The dramatic trailer showcased itself more like a teaser for an upcoming fictional television show than of a famous actor's first sitdown amid a still-pending investigation into the tragic death of an innocent woman. It read tonally distasteful and a bit confusing. Last night, I sat down to watch the entire interview between George and Alec and not much of my opinion has changed. The dramatic trailer for Alec Baldwin's ABC News interview with George Stephanopoulos showcased itself more like a teaser for an upcoming fictional...

(CNN)When the Supreme Court hears a constitutional challenge on Wednesday to a Mississippi ban on abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, the justices will start with the two seminal decisions that secured the abortion right for women. The decisions, in 1973 and 1992, laid down constitutional markers while describing in powerful terms the difficult issues at hand. In Roe v. Wade, the justices acknowledged at the outset "the sensitive and emotional nature of the abortion controversy, of the vigorous opposing views, even among physicians, and of the deep and seemingly absolute convictions that the subject inspires." Nearly two decades later, in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the justices asserted: "Men and women of good conscience can disagree, and we suppose some always shall disagree, about the profound moral and spiritual implications of terminating a pregnancy, even in its earliest stage. Some of us as individuals find abortion offensive to our most basic principles of morality, but that cannot control our decision. Our obligation is to define the liberty of all, not to mandate our own moral code." Read more Roe...

When police told Joseph Wirija that his wife was struck by a car and killed the day after Thanksgiving by a motorist who had plowed through a stop sign in their quiet Pasadena neighborhood, the first thing he asked was whether she suffered. They assured him 33-year-old Yang Yang Liu’s death was instantaneous. The second question he asked was, “Where is the driver?” They declined to provide information, he said. “I should have asked a lot more questions at that point, but I just blanked out,” Wirija, 35, said Monday. Around 11 a.m., Liu set out for a jog on a route she had taken many times before. It usually took her about half an hour to complete it, so Wirija texted her when she didn’t return by noon. About two hours later, he tried calling. He called 20 to 30 times until a police officer picked up around 5 p.m. and said they’d deliver the news in person. Wirija broke out into a cold sweat and began shivering, already bracing himself for the worst....
An online forum for women created to tackle misogyny and offer dating advice has come under fire for echoing incel culture by scrutinising and ridiculing men.  Founded in the US in 2019 by a 'collective' of anonymous women 'from all walks of life' the blog Female Dating Strategy is a website and online community claiming to help women enter 'relationships that truly benefit them', that's since become a global phenomenon.  It was created in reaction to Red Pill or Incel communities - a collection of websites, blogs, and online forums which oppose feminism and promote masculinity and misogyny.  Core beliefs include that 'most men are not of value' to women, that a man's 'role is to be the pursuer', men must 'invest' in you before you allow them to have sex with you, and that it's not acceptable to date a 'financially-challenged man'.  FDS labels unsuitable men 'scrotes', claims males with personality disorders or small penises should be avoided, while women should never move in with a man before marriage or have sex on the first date. In recent years...
